About this house rental
PLEASE READ PRIOR TO BOOKING: If you have more than 10 guests the cottage will need to be booked as Maui's rental permit law requires 2 guests per room. That being said, children under the age of 3 can stay with their parents in the same room and not count toward the occupancy rate. As the main house only has 5 rooms, it can only sleep 10 guests. To rent the cottage adds an extra $250 per night and has a $200 cleaning fee. If you do instant booking, the cottage will not be automatically booked, but it will be added through a payment request should your party be over 10 guests. Should your party include 10 guests + some children under the age of 3, it will be up to the owners discretion whether the cottage needs to be rented or not.
Also, please ask us about our payment options if you would like to pay over 2 or 3 installments.
1505 Halama Street also known as HOALOHA HALE (translated 'Friends House') is a legally permitted (STKM 2017/0005) home located across the street from the beach in beautiful Kihei Maui. This traditional Hawaiian home features a 5 bedrooms / 3 bath main house and a separate studio cottage with its own bathroom and kitchen (making for a 6 bed / 4 bath combination if desired). Both the home and cottage have large lanai areas for lounging, BBQing, and relaxing during the warm and tropical evenings. Enjoy the beautiful tropical climate outside, and still remain comfortable inside with air conditioning throughout the home and cottage.
This main house is perfect for families that want to have enough bedrooms and space to enjoy their time together. The upstairs portion of the main house has soaring ceilings and a loft game area for kids. The open floor plan on the second floor is perfect for relaxing together with family, cooking a nice meal, and enjoying indoor outdoor living. Move freely from the living room and kitchen area onto an expansive wrap around Lanai.
The first floor is also very nice, with two bedrooms its own living room area, and an outdoor rear patio. Both the upstairs living area and downstairs living areas are very comfortable and have large flat screen TVs.
The cottage is perfect for someone in the family that may need a little more privacy and space. The cottage also has soaring ceilings and is configured as a large open studio with a gourmet kitchen, TV, air conditioning, full bath, walk in closet, and separate lanai.
HOALOHA HALE is situated in a beautiful neighborhood with multi-million dollar homes. The street is safe, has hardly any traffic, and is right across the street from a beautiful beach. Two blocks to the west you'll enjoy a large park with tennis courts, baseball & soccer fields, outdoor roller rink, running tracks along the ocean, and more beautiful beaches. Downtown Kihei is also within walking distance. There you will enjoy shopping, dining, and all the local flare this beach town has to offer.
Here are just some of the attractions, restaurants, and everyday living features you will have access to when you stay at HOALOHA HALE.
GOLF
If you've come to maui to enjoy Golf, you've come to the right part of the island. Just a mile from the house is the Maui Nui Golf Club and less the 5 miles from the house are the Wailea Gold Course, Emerald Golf Course, and Wailea Blue Golf Course (each of which are fantastic and have amazing views of the ocean and surrounding countryside). I personally like golfing on the Kihei/Wailea side of the island, becuase the wind in far less severe than the Kaanapali/Kapalua side of the island.
RESTAURANTS
Less than a five minute walk from the house is Pizza Madness Maui, which offers a 4+ star pizza and sandwiches. Other food options that are less than a mile away are Coconut's Fish Cafe, Nalu's South Shore Grill, Fabiani's Bakery, Eskimo Candy, Outback Steak House, Ekolu Kitchen, Starbucks, Paia Fish Market S. Side, Kihei Cafe, South Maui Fish Co., Outrigger Pizza, Maui Brewing Company, etc., (AND THAT'S WITHIN THE FIRST MILE). Within a five-six mile radius you get into other amazing places, like the fabulous Restaurant at the Hotel Wailea (one of the best high-end restaurants on the island!!), Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman's, The Five Palms, Sorento's on the Beach, Ka Ana Kitchen, the list goes on and on. Bottom line, you will not go hungry staying at our house and there is a lot to choose from (both familiar and with local flare).
ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS
The house is near a ton of great tours and attractions. Some of the best snorkeling companies run right in Kihei, less than 5-10 minutes from the house. For bigger boating experiences (i.e. dinner/sunset cruises, fishing charters, Molokini Excursions, etc.) the Maalaea Harbor is only 8 miles from the house. Maui Dive shop is a five minute walk. Canoe, Kayak, surfboard rentals less than mile from the house. Kalama State park which has soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and running paths along the beach is only a few blocks from the house. Day trips to other parts of the island are also super easy and convenient as the house is only a few miles from the major thoroughfares that will take you to Hana, Paia, Makawao and other communities that are all unique and fun to visit.
SHOPPING
Check out all the great shops in the Kalama Village and Kihei Town center less than mile away. Also drive down to the great shops in downtown Wailea about 5 minutes away.
BEACHES
Some of the best beaches on the island, from Halama beach right across the street from the house, to all the Kamaole beaches that line S. Kihei Rd. Drive a short 5 miles toward Wailea and experience some of the great beaches that the large resorts have to offer (all are open to the public). Drive a little further (approximately 9 miles) and you'll reach Makena State Park with the beautiful Makena Beach, Makena Cove, and Little beach (clothing optional).
So much to enjoy, you'll never have a dull time visiting this magical place!!
Also, please ask us about our payment options if you would like to pay over 2 or 3 installments.

We had a great time! The home was beautiful, clean and close to the beach! The home owner was very responsive and even gave us suggestions on some good snorkeling spot. If we make it Maui again we will definitely consider staying at this home again.

The big house is really, really nice. It has 3 levels with stairs, a huge kitchen and dining area, and a great porch that wraps all the way around the middle level. The vegetation surrounding the home is wonderful, and it creates a little Hawaiian oasis, with plenty of parking room for multiple vehicles in the driveway. By the way, there’s a mango tree on the property! There was a small problem with the cottage (which we also rented in order to have enough room for our large group), which was immediately taken care of by the host. We really appreciated the service and willingness of the host to go the extra mile to help us when this minor problem arose. Overall, this was a perfect place for our large family group to sleep, sit on the porch, cook large meals in the kitchen, and use the grill on the deck. You will not be disappointed with this big house.

Beautiful house with a great layout for big groups. Beach is a 3 minute walk perfect for evening sunsets. We also loved staying in Kihei with close proximity to airport, destinations, and stores. If we ever make it back to Maui we will rent this house again. Thank you!!

The house was beautiful, a short walk to great beach usually having only neighborhood people on it. Chris was exceptional as a host, immediately responsive to questions. The house book answered most questions, after we discovered it lol. My family of 12 and a little one had an awesome time and created forever memories. Thank you Chris! PT June 2024

My fiancé (now wife!), family and friends stayed here for 6 nights for our wedding and a vacation in paradise. It was the perfect location! Short walk to the beach, short drive to many great shops and restaurants and really not a bad drive to anywhere else on the island. All of the bedrooms are spacious and allowed for everyone to have their privacy. We also added the cottage which added even more space. Great patio and kitchen that was good for the group to gather and relax. The host, Chris, was great about communicating and made everything super simple for us.
11/10, would recommend!!

This place had more than enough room for our group of ten and the walking location to the beach was awesome!

This home in Maui was so roomy and perfect for our large family! We loved how spacious the kitchen and adjoining living space was, as we gathered there often. The home is close to so many beautiful beaches as well as restaurants and grocery stores. We loved this location! Well stocked with everything you need for your stay. We also used the cottage and it was wonderful as well. The property is clean and well-maintained. Chris, the manager was super helpful and on top of any needs we had. Really the best trip we've ever had, and much of it because of this wonderful house!

Chris was very prompt in responding. The house definitely lends itself so very well for large groups.
All family and friends were very happy with the accommodations. Very, very pretty home and well appointed. The beach access was great. Just a short walk up the beach you are able to see sea turtles resting in the sun. We had relatives staying in the cottage on the property they seemed equally happy with the accommodations.
Would definitely inquire about Hoaloha Hale property again if we come back with a large group. Thank you Chris. You have a lovely property.
Best, Sallie

This property worked well for us and our 2 families with small children. As the grandparents, we stayed in the cottage while the other 4 adults and 4 grandchildren stayed in the main house. That separation worked very well for us. Both the house and cottage were well stocked for cooking, and there also was some equipment available for fun at the beach. The beach does have some coral, so water shoes are advisable. The Yale electronic locks made access easy for everyone. Restaurants and a grocery store are only about half a mile away. And we had very responsive communications with the owner.

So spacious, clean, and only two minutes away from the beach! 5 min from grocery, shops and restaurants! Rented the whole property, including the cottage for our wedding party of 11 adults and everyone felt fully accommodated. Plenty of beach gear and towels. Also very close to MisoPhat Sushi. Thanks Chris!

Fabulous house. We enjoyed our stay very much. Convenient location Everything you need for a perfect vacation.

First off, the property manager Chris was the best host I've had experience with. Very helpful, responsive and generous. The property itself was just as advertised and housed the 12 of us very comfortably. The two houses were clean and the kitchens were well organized. An easy stroll to the beach.

When you book and invest in a vacation home rental, there’s always some nervousness about whether the actual house matches up to the marketing photos. This house is the Mecca of Awesome.
Combined with the cottage, our family of 12 had more than enough room to cohabitate. We enjoyed our morning coffee and breakfast on the deck. Every evening, many of us sat out on the deck, while some watched TV or played video games.
Kihei has a lot of great restaurants and shopping. You can also rent surfboard and other water sports items and go surfing or boarding on the beach. The water was warm. I would definitely recommend some beach shoes to avoid rocky bottoms in the water. And let’s not forget the turtles on the beach across the street from the house. So amazing. As I said, the Mecca of awesome. I would definitely come back with the family.
The host was wonderful and easy to talk to. Very accommodating to our needs. Good people.
What else can I say? We don’t want to leave.
PS-don’t miss out on Shave ice from Ululani’s. It’s like an ice cream sundae and snow cone in one.

Hoaloha Hale was the perfect setting for our memorable family rendezvous the week of Thanksgiving 2023! Oh, and for celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. The home provided lovely, authentic Hawaiian accommodations in a quiet tropical setting. We thoroughly enjoyed all that the home had to offer. Our group of ten ranged in age from 6 to 72. In Kihei we were within easy distance of many amenities and adventures, including just steps away from a lovely beach and beautiful sunsets and walking distance to a great coffee truck each morning. Our only regret is that we could not stay longer at Hoaloha Hale and spend more time together as a family enjoying beautiful Maui. Mahalo!

We couldn't have asked for a better experience. The house itself is stunning and in such a great location. You're basically across the street from beach access, and on the other side of the house is a great view of the mountain (sunrise was amazing). The house was very clean, the beds were all SO comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we could have possibly needed or wanted. Chris was extremely helpful and was always available if we had questions, and made sure to check in before our trip to make sure we had everything we needed when we arrived. Seriously, if I ever make it back to Maui I will absolutely try to stay here again.

We loved the space the house had and how all the bedrooms had privacy. Kitchen was well stocked. Chris was a great host. Would recommend staying here.

I can't say enough good things about this home, location and host! We were thrilled to be in such a beautiful location on the island. We were close to several grocery stores, fabulous restaurants and beautiful beaches. The home was spacious and had everything we needed for a large group of all ages. Chris was an amazing host. He was always available to answer questions and gave us wonderful recommendations to make our vacation extra special. I highly recommend this rental and hope we can get back there soon ourselves!

We were there to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary as they renewed their vows, also two of our kids just graduated from high school. The location of the house was in a great neighborhood and close to many things, many within walking distance. The beach nearby was beautiful! The house was stocked with everything (and more) that we needed! It was a beautiful house and cottage and gave us more than enough room for our entire family of 12! Chris communicated everything that was necessary and even helped with figuring out things to do and restaurants nearby. He had great recommendations! I do not have any complaints at all, we enjoyed our stay thoroughly and would recommend this house to others. I would also love to go back and visit sometime! Thank you so much for a very relaxing and fun vacation house for us adults and our teenage children! Mahalo!

This place was great. There were really no issues whatsoever. All of the appliances were top-of-the-line. The beds were comfortable. The place was extremely clean. Chris, the host, was amazing at communicating with us. The only issue, is that the beach nearby? It’s not really very good for swimming. That’s really not Chris’s problem, but it should be noted.

The house was amazing. I grew up on maui and wanted to show my mainland friends the island for my birthday. The house + cottage was the perfect choice for us. The open floor plan was great for get togethers and awesome for games when it rained one day. Check in was super easy and clean was a breeze. You are across from the beach with great beach access and perfect sport for those group sunset photos. you are also a short walk away from some great food and drinks like Three’s, lava rock and Paia fish market. Id recommend this house to anyone and one of my friends is already looking to bring his family back.

We stayed for six nights at this home, and we were 8 family members. We liked the very large kitchen, several people could help out at the same time. The table was enough for even more than us 8. The three bathrooms were enough, even when we came back from watching the sunset, and we were salty and sandy! We saw turtles and humpback whales from the beach, and enjoyed bouncing in the waves. The outdoor shower had hot and cold taps and this was nice for rinsing off! We used all the outdoor beach gear, great stuff! The location was central to all of our activities. With three different lounging areas, plus the very generous deck, we had room for all the different things everyone wanted to do. We didn't run out of wifi. The a/c was very effective and we closed the window blinds during the day to avoid heat gain. Loved the BBQ outside! We asked for and got a late checkout on our last day, and we were allowed to store our suitcases till 6 pm, so we could venture around without fear of our things getting stolen from our rental cars. Lots of personal care and attention from Chris, even restaurant recommendations! Thanks so much for making this week one for our family to remember forever! Mahalo!

We traveled with a group of 6 adults and 4 children and everyone was very comfortable and happy with the accommodations. The beach across the street is beautiful and of course Maui provided whales and turtles making it even more enjoyable!
Thanks Chris for a wonderful vacation!

Just steps from ocean & sand, this roomy house in a quiet neighborhood was centrally located in Kihei. The large kitchen, dining area, & deck really worked for our multi-generational group of 10, and there was lots of kitchenware and supplies. Bedrooms were large enough and beds comfortable. Our group made use of beach gear like beach chairs & boogie boards. Our host checked in with us many times to be sure everything was going well and that we were comfortable. Fabulous house, we'd love to stay there again!

This was absolutely perfect for an extended family vacation! The home is well equipped with more than just necessities, plenty of kitchenware for a larger family, lots of elbow room to spread out, and a bonus games/office lot area complete with video game consuls for the kids to enjoy. The host was very responsive and caring. We highly recommend this to anyone needing larger space.

Our family, 7 adults and 2 children had a excellent stay.
Location: short walk to the beach, easy safe walk down Halama street to the park where the kids could play. Convenient drive to supermarkets.
The house was well stocked with dishes and cooking equipment including a rice cooker and a grill on the deck.
Another plus was a trove of beach chairs, boogie boards, cooler and sand toys at the house.
The house was very clean on our arrival. Two modern washer dryer units are available on the lower level of the main house.
Every bedroom has an individual A/C units and ceiling fan that made sleeping comfortable. (Hawaii humidity is high) although one of the A/C units for the main room was non functional awaiting parts.
Chris, the owner, was our contact person and was excellent! He responded quickly when we had questions and made efforts to make sure that our stay was comfortable.

This is a great property, just as advertised. Our extended family had a great 10 day vacation. The rooms, bathrooms, kitchen and amenities were all great, and the best of Maui is easily accessible from Kihei. Chris was a responsive, helpful and accommodating host. Would recommend without any hesitation.

The Halama House was perfect for our family gathering from Seattle, Tokyo, Boston and Temecula. The kids loved the loft and the adults had plenty of room for reminiscing and enjoying good food and drink. Our oldest son got married at Kukahiko Estate. Everything went beautifully and the house contributed much to the success of our trip.

Our stay at Chris' place was amazing. It had all of the amenities that we needed. My parents joined myself, my husband and our two little ones. The downstairs area afforded by parents a separate place to retreat for privacy and peace and quiet, while the rest of us were able to enjoy the upstairs living area and kitchen. We cooked some great meals in the well appointed kitchen. And there was a perfect spot for my husband to work away from the crew when he needed to. The beach, which is in walking distance, is absolutely magical. We found a spot were I felt comfortable allowing my little one to splash and my five year old snorkel where I didn't have to worry that they would be smashed by big waves. We snorkeled with the turtles there, saw amazing coral and fish and relaxed on a nearly empty beach. It was perfect. The only thing is that if you need to keep your kiddos off the stairs, you will need to rent baby gates - one for the stairs going down and one for the stairs going up, and possibly one for the very top because the one in the pictures is not there anymore (they may have replaced because one did exist at some point I think). We definetely recommend this home for a special vacation.

We booked this property, including the cottage, to accommodate friends and family for a small destination beach wedding. The house worked out a great (other than the ice maker on the fridge not working). While the cottage was lovely, it was so close to the road that road noise (and rooster noise) was an issue for the couple that stayed there. Also the air conditioning in the cottage was not stellar, and there were some issues with outlets not working. The location of the house was great - walking distance to bars and restaurants and a nice beach. Overall, our stay was wonderful, but some minor issues should be addressed. I would not hesitate to book the house again, but I am not sure that the couple who stayed in the cottage would want to stay there again until the air conditioning is working better.

This house is perfectly suited for a large family vacation. Plenty of bedrooms and places for kids to hang out inside or on big outside deck. House is in a great location, convenient to everything, on a quiet street, close to the beach, nice safe places to walk/run. Well appointed with all the tools you need to cook and enjoy meals inside. We had an issue with little bugs inside the house, but not biting bugs. Owner was VERY responsive with any issues we had at the house. Highly recommend this home for your next Maui vacation.
