This was a wonderful stay. Lia and George were great hosts and very helpful. The area was peaceful and a nice reprieve from the city. My favorite part was sitting on the deck and watching the sheep and geese. The deck sits right on top of the canal, it’s private, so the sounds of the water and the wild life made it that much more serene.
Using public transportation, it’s an easy ride to Amsterdam, the airport, and other parts of Holland. I visited Haarlem, The Hague, Delft, and Rotterdam in my time. I also went to the beach a couple times when the weather was nice.
Lia and George were wondering and welcoming. I arrived at a great time and got the chance to meet the baby sheep and watch the sheep getting sheered.
It was an incredible and unforgettable adventure.

We had an amazing time - the location is great for bike or bus trips to nearby towns, and the commute into Amsterdam is really easy. The family is wonderful and being on the canal was really nice and relaxing. Would highly recommend this stay!!

Lia and George's cottage is located directly on a canal, on a quiet street in a pretty village. It is conveniently located close to the bus line which will get you to Amsterdam's Noord Station within 10 minutes. Plus, it is an easy drive from here to Volendam, Edam, Zaanse Schans, Keukenhof and so much more.
Our stay was perfectly peaceful ... we loved being surrounded by nature, watching the ducks and swans swim by, and keeping an eye on the sheep and horses across the canal. We had everyhing we needed in the kitchen, the bed was very comfortable and the sitting area was cozy.
George and Lia are very friendly and super helpful! They explained the public transit system, gave wonderful advice on places to visit, eat or get groceries, and helped when our rental car needed service. They are the perfect hosts!
If you enjoy nature, country living, getting away from the hustle and bustle (but not being too far away from the action), we would highly recommended staying at Lia and George's cottage!

Friendly and helpful hosts. Clean and pleasant property with nice views from the deck. Unfortunately we had a lot of rain so didn’t really get to enjoy the deck. Has off road parking but parking area and outside would benefit from a tidy up. We had a few issues with the tv signal but hope George and Lia have sorted that by now.

well taken care of, the hosts are very kind and helpful. the place was exactly as described and the views were incredible. the town is very nice and not far from downtown by bus. easy to get to Centraal if you desire. it was nice to have the bikes to explore the surrounding area.

We had such a wonderful stay here! The house is beautiful and the village looks like an illustration for a book of fairy tales. Also super easy to get into Amsterdam- about a half hour on public transport. George and Lia went above and beyond as hosts. They were very friendly and helpful and even made the extremely kind offer to let us stay an extra night after transport difficulties meant that we arrived late. Would absolutely recommend this property to anyone considering!

Terrific. What a great experience. Only 10-15 minutes away by bus from the central station with everyone so helpful. Allowed us to enjoy the Amsterdam experience and yet get away to enjoy the countryside’s charms.
The lodgings were a self contained apartment separate from the main residence of our hosts. We had complete privacy but they were there to help in any way possible. We did not use the provided bicycles. The weather and winds prevented use of the canoe.
You need to get the pass for all the transport on both sides of the central station but well worth the extra access to all the areas outside Amsterdam. Not to be missed. Remember 2 UNESCO designated sites in the area.
Thank you Lia and George for making our stay so memorable.

This cottage is just as described…actually better. Great beds, peaceful, quaint location, very homey and near public transportation. Phenomenal communication with the hosts and they went above and beyond. This was part of a multi-country trip but we are hoping to return for an extended stay at the cottage. Highly recommend!

Lia and George were excellent hosts, right from our arrival. Even though we arrived early Lia did her utmost to prepare our accommodation. The Cottage is well equipped and clean. Right on the canal with farm animals, birds and ducks to watch. It truly is a relaxing location.
A restorative place after a chaotic visit to Amsterdam. Amsterdam itself offered plenty to do and was a short bus trip away. On leaving, we were offered a ride closer to our train and it felt as though we were leaving friends behind. I highly recommend this Cottage! We hope to return some day.

Beautiful one bedroom rental right on a canal, rural setting but close to the city, has everything you need with a beautiful view. Even has a king bed (very hard find in Europe) a plus. 10 minutes walk to bus stop, 15 minutes into Amsterdam or easily catch a bus to Edam, Markum, Hoorne and many more towns from the same bus stop. Restaurants and grocery store nearby. Lia , George and Sheena were wonderful hosts making sure we had everything we needed.

The appartement is perfect.
Bed comfortable.
The communication with the hosts was very easy. We appreciate that they live next door but we have all our privacy.
Our favorite is the location. Small quiet village 15 minutes from the city center. Very frequent buses to get there.
The appartement is on the edge of the canal. You can observe nature and the landscape changes every day.
Thanks Lia and George!

We had an absolutely wonderful stay in Amsterdam and in George's and Lia's lovely cottage. Thank you so much for everything! Amsterdam was charming, but even more we fell in love with the little village of Broek in Waterland, the neighboring villages and our cute cottage by the canal. We are already planning our next trip for autumn - and then we definitely want to have more time to ride a bike and sit on the terrace of the cottage for watching the activities of the animals. I hope to see you again soon, George & Lia! You are great hosts!

The cottage is lovely, with big windows opening to a canal and sheep-fields. Very comfortable lodging with all we needed for meals in. The cottage is set in a lovely village that is a short bus ride from the Central Station in Amsterdam. Check in went easily, with good communication prior to stay. George and Lia were available if needed but very respectful of our privacy. This is our second stay here and we would gladly rent again.

If you want to stay near Amsterdam, but want a quieter country experience, you can not do better than this place. Broek in Waterland is a quaint tiny village just minutes from the outskirts of the city. If you are teaching by car this allows you easy access to the highways that circle Amsterdam so you can go any direction. If visiting the city, the bus stop is near by and bus service is excellent. You do not want to take a car into the old part Amsterdam. There is a mini market nearby and if you have a car a modest shopping center is in Monnickendam just 10 minutes by car or you can his the big shopping center in North Amsterdam.
The apartment was exactly as indicated in the pictures and description. The hosts could not have been nicer. Checking and check out was easy. The place was clean. The view out the back is stunning. It is a quintessential Dutch polder landscape.
If traveling by car, a parking space is provided. You are just a short drive from Marken, Monnickendam, Volendam and Zaanse Schans. Nearby is also Haarlem (a city just a few year older than Amsterdam with beautiful historic city center. Also so good museums. Less hectic than Amsterdam. You can also get to the sea side and dune nature preserves with easy by car. You can also take the bus to Amsterdam and take the “Sand Sprinter” train to Zandvoort.
On my next opportunity to came back and visit u would not hesitate to pick this place again.

We stayed here on our honeymoon, and could not have asked for a better place. The location was so peaceful, we really enjoyed going around the village, and Amsterdam was only a couple bus stops away.
George and Lia were also amazing hosts, they even gave us a card and a box of chocolates! Next time we come to Amsterdam, we will absolutely be staying here again!

It was a delight dealing with George and Lia. We felt comfortable straight away and loved the accommodation. It is very rural but only fifteen minutes out of Amsterdam and the buses are regular and very easy.
I would highly recommend this property for people who want something a little different, a small rural village with charm. After a day in Amsterdam it was wonderful to return to peace and tranquility.

Absolutely breathtaking!
My husband and I had such an incredible stay here. The location is gorgeous and it's quite easy to get to neighboring villages and Amsterdam from there. Every day we took advantage of the available bikes to explore. It was such a nice way to see the area. The hosts were gracious and gave us a lovely tour of the property. We visited the sheep and horses. It was so cool to see the work they do to protect migratory birds that use their lands for important breeding and foraging. We came away with so many lovely memories of the sweeping landscape, lovely skyline, and a great respect for hosts George and Lia. They are wonderful people and the VRBO was the best rental we've ever experience.

Great place with wonderful hosts!
Imaging sitting on the back deck of this wonderful little cottage as boats go quietly by on a sunny afternoon. Across the water sheep graze and horses roam. Perfect you think and then you experience the hospitality for George and Lia and it gets even better, Highly recommended!!

A perfect getaway in striking distance to the central Amsterdam.
Hosts were very accommodating and friendly. The B and B had everything we needed and was nice and warm with heating and plenty of hot water. We loved sitting out on the deck with the camel below and view across the fields. Would definitely stay again. Thank you

Perfect getaway from hustle and bustle of Amsterdam
Lia could not have been more helpful, providing us with information on travel to the city, supermarkets and other useful tips. The property itself is on the canal and we spent each evening sitting on the deck watching the watercraft pass by. The apartment is well equipped for self catering and is spacious. Altogether a very pleasant stay with congenial hosts.

Simple, peaceful, relaxing!
Perfect stay just outside of Amsterdam. I could sit and stare out the windows all day. Not super fancy, but our needs were comfortably met. We enjoyed the heated floors, and the shower was so lovely. The towels were quiet rough, but nothing bad enough to take away from this magic of this place. We enjoyed taking the canoe out very much. Also, the bikes were fun to stroll around in and also convenient to get to the bus stop (10 minute walk, 2 minute ride). I would reccomend this location!

Great little house!
What a great town and so close to Amsterdam. The bus is very easy into the city, and then you’re back in a quiet space looking at the canal, ducks, and horses.
The cottage feels bigger than it looks in the photos because the bathroom is well separated from the rest of the house — and then you have more space outside on the deck.

Quaint village life, minutes from Amsterdam
We thoroughly enjoyed our eleven night stay at the property in Broek in Waterland, over the new year holiday. George and Lia responded quickly and with clear communication. They were a friendly and helpful host who wonderfully balanced being available and attentive to our needs with being respectful of our privacy and plans. The pictures don't do justice to the clean and comfortable cottage, set alongside a scenic canal. (We loved waking to the sounds of the geese and ducks and the cows across the canal.) The cottage provided all we needed. Broek in Waterland is a quaint village with fine restaurants and a couple places to pick up a few groceries. A short (less than ten minute) and delightful walk through the village brought us to the bus which, in less than 15 minutes further brought us to Amsterdam's Centraal Station. From there we could explore Amsterdam or travel to cities such as Haarlem and Utrecht. George and Lia also provided bikes, which were fun to ride to pick up supplies at the grocery stores in Monnickendam. We took the local bus to the nearby villages of Marken and Volendam for some marvelous sightseeing and souvenir shopping. All just a few minutes away! The cottage was clean and new and very comfortable - we especially enjoyed the heated floors in the bedroom and bathroom! I would gladly stay again!

Beautiful, peaceful, amazing!
My husband and I stayed in Lia and George's cottage for five nights last week. I can't say enough about what a lovely place it is. The cottage is new and very comfortable. It is in a pretty and historic village in the polder lands north of Amsterdam. There are horses in the pasture across a small canal from the cottage, ducks in the canal, and sheep in the distance. Lia and George are very friendly and hospitable. We highly recommend staying with them for a peaceful retreat from the bustle of Amsterdam.

Calm and Relaxing
Our 2 week stay was totally enjoyable. The "cottage" was comfortable, clean and well equipped. It was very relaxing sitting on the deck next to the canal watching the horses, sheep and ducks. Lia and George were very friendly and helpful which made our stay really special. Would highly recommend this accommodation.

Wonderful stay!
This a delightful cottage in a beautiful setting! George and Lia are fantastic hosts and their cottage has been remodeled with the best of updates. All the furnishings are very comfortable and their village is inviting particularly after a busy day in bustling Amsterdam for it offer screen relaxation. There is a nearby cafe, market and restaurant all within walking distance from the cottage or you can ride the bikes that George and Lia provide. They get our highest recommendation!

Perfect place to stay for a blend of city and countryside
Like others before us, we had a lovely time in George and Lia's cottage. It had everything we needed to make ourselves comfortable, including a very comfortable bed and the lovely deck in front of the canal complete with ducks and ducklings, horses, birds and general quiet. Once we had got the hang of the bikes without gears or brakes (the latter done by back pedalling) we enjoyed cycling to the bus stop - never waiting more than 5 mins for a bus to Amsterdam or Marken, as well as cycling ot Marken and around the pretty Broek in Waterland village - all so safe and easy and not a helmet in sight. There is so much to do that the week flew past. Zaans Schans (an easy trip by bus and return by tram from Amsterdam) and the Zuider Zee museum are well worth a visit for those wanting to experience something outside the city. We also went to the more unusual museums - 'Our Lord in the Attic' and the Dutch Resistance Museum both of which gave a sense of life in Amsterdam/ the Netherland past and more recent. Thanks for a great time.

Wonderful Cottage
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at George and Lia’s cottage. The cottage was well equipped and we loved the bucolic view of farm animals across the canal. Broek in Waterland is a charming village, rural in character yet very convenient to Amsterdam. We had a rental car and found this location perfect for exploring both north and south Holland. We give this cottage our highest recommendation.

A lovely week spent in George & Lia's cottage. We had everything we needed & the use of bicycles was an added bonus!Evenings were spent on the decking, overlooking the canal & a trip to Amsterdam on the local bus was straightforward using the Ov-Chipcards that George & Lia kindly allow their guests to use.
The cottage was spacious & well equipped & we especially liked the shower/wetroom.A truly relaxing stay & great base for touring Laag Holland. We look forward to returning in the future,

Peaceful rural retreat just a few miles from Amsterdam
We wanted to do some sightseeing in Amsterdam but didn't want to stay there. This place was perfect...field on one side of the street, a canal on the other with some curious sheep on the other side.
Bus service into Amsterdam is slick and easy. It was also very nice to be able to make some of our own meals.
Lia was sweet enough to do some laundry for us, which we very much appreciated.
