A little about the area
Villa Martini is situated in a tiny peaceful village with no facilities but there is a good selection of restaurants within a short car ride, and there are a couple within walking distance (1.5 - 2km).
For shopping, there is a minimarket which also doubles as a bar less than 2km away.
The closest train station is less than 2km away, aiding easy exploration of Lucca, the market town of Castelnuovo, Pisa and Florence (with a change at Lucca). It is also possible to take the train to the Cinque Terre which is a big bonus! The market town of Aulla is 20 mins by car and it is less than 1 hour by car to the seaside.
This villa gives a unique opportunity to explore the totally unspoilt area at the tip of Tuscany, (Lunignana) but since it is only 20 minutes from the motorway, then the usual sights are in fact easier to visit than from many properties further south.
Ideal also for cheaper flights from Genoa although the property is equidistant from Genoa and Pisa airports

Beautiful house. Everything you need is there. The place where you can eat outside is an ideal spot, it is always pleasant there even in very hot weather. We really recommended this house. Owners are very friendly. Only point to take into account is that you always have to drive a long way for groceries or excursions.

We loved this villa - it was very comfortable and well equipped and we loved the pool with its beautiful views. Fabio the owner was very friendly and made us very welcome.
The location is rather remote - there isn't really anything in Vigneta and you need to drive to the nearest shop and restaurant. However, we were very happy relaxing in the villa and round the pool so this didn't really impact on us.

una casa bella e perfetta!
I have stayed in many many places in Italy and this was one of my best experiences. The home is spacious, clean, has everything you need to make meals and relax. We toured the area everyday and came back to swim in the evening, and I made simple meals and served them at the outside table, just perfect. I also had to finish some research and write a paper while I was there and found it very comfortable to work in the evenings and wifi was excellent. The views are unbelievable. Fabio and his wife are available and very kind. The restaurant in Pieve San Lorenzo is very very good and close and inexpensive.

Ideal Family retreat
Everything was up to our expectations, plenty of space for all
the family. Pool a bonus and Fabio very helpful and generous.
For perfection we could have done with more cooking utensils,
oven dishes, new frying pan etc. Otherwise brilliant.

Rural Tuscany at its best
Our second trip to northern Tuscany and what a delight. The villa was immaculate and the pool and all facilities top class. Fresh bread and vegetables across the road each morning and butcher and supermarket within easy reach by car. Fabio was fantastic and really helpful.

Lovely house and pool in beautiful surroundings
This is a spacious and well equipped villa with a fine pool and fabulous views. There are three outdoor seating areas, one of which provides deep shade when wanted. The pool is in full sun, big enough and deep enough to swim in and beautifully lit at night. Fabio, the owner is charming, and greeted us with tomatoes, basil and his own olive oil which is better than anything you can buy. There is a friendly bar two minutes away which has lovely owners and provided my son with English football on request (so long as it didn't clash with the Juventus game). Casola, a short drive away (or three quarters of an hour by footpath) has a little supermarket that stocks everything you need. If you like walking the surroundings are beautiful and there is a network of well-marked footpaths. The local restaurants are remarkably good and inexpensive, notably, in my experience, Il Borghetto in San Lorenzo and Da Remo in Monzone. Having discovered that weekday lunches usually cost 10 Euros a head including wine (at the nearby Lo Spino Fiorito for instance) even my father wanted to go out. Not very many non-Italian tourists have found this gorgeous place which provides a taste of genuine Italy and to which I very much hope to return. Highly recommended.

Beautiful house in a quiet scenic setting. Real get away from it all. Finished to a high standard. The owner was very welcoming and on hand if anything was ever needed. Even provided vegetables and olive oil from his own garden. We had a fantastic time and would highly recommend it. Good facilities and lovely restaurant near by.

A real taste of Italy
This was our third time at Villa Martini, and hopefully won’t be our last. Beautiful house and garden..very clean and well maintained. Lots of lovely local restaurants in surrounding area, great food at very reasonable price.. grocery van with fresh products comes every other day and bread van on a daily basis.. very friendly bar/cafe 2 minutes away..Fabio as always is the perfect host, arriving with his homegrown tomatoes and grapes.. also his own produced olive oil.. very helpful and full of local knowledge.. if you want a taste of authentic Italy , this is the perfect place to stay..

A Warm but Lovely Holiday
We booked the Villa Martini based on its appearance and the previous write ups. It was in an area of Tuscany that we had never experienced before and so it was with some trepidation that we drove up the winding road towards Vigneta. But the astounding views of the Apuane Alps with its jagged peaks were a real surprise and over the next next two weeks we watched the changing light over Mt Pisanio as the clouds or the early morning mist changed its appearance. Villa Martini was a real delight. It is an old building with well proportioned rooms and restored to a high standard. All the rooms were adequately spacious and the abundance of showers and baths was a real blessing, given the heat wave we lived through. The kitchen was spacious and well equipped and the dining table easily accommodated the seven of us.
Outside, the pool had a fixed depth throughout but quite adequate for swimming if not for diving. Particularly pleasant were the views from the poolside patio, which was where we took our breakfast most mornings. To the side of the house, the landlord had thoughtfully designed a shady retreat where a long table and chairs were sheltered from the mid-day sun and where cooling breezes came in from the mountains beyond. A modern gas fired BBQ proved very useful.
Given that we holidayed in the 2018 heat wave with daily temperatures ranging from 38-40c, the presence of the shady side of the house was a godsend, so too were the thick walls of the house which helped to make the interior always cool. If there was one thing that the landlord could consider, that would be to construct a similar awning over the far side of the pool where the current table and umbrella do not cope with the mid-day sun.
The village of Vigneta was served with a daily service of fresh bread and twice a week an excellent greengrocer arrived, while down in the nearby village just minutes away a fish van came once a week and butcher also. But a bit further down the valley there was a small supermarket that stocked most things. However the highlight of Vigneta was the recently refurbished bar, whose opening we were invited to. A lovely couple run this oasis and are adept at making Spritzers - as well as expresso if desired.
Finally, the Landlord Fabio - a truly lovely man who often appeared with a bag of tomatoes, zuchinni, or onions from his own garden. And one memorable day he took us to visit the marble quarries.
Villa Martini is a holiday venue we thoroughly recommend

Fantastic villa in perfect surroundings
I stayed here for a week in June this year with 7 friends, and we had a fantastic time! The villa is everything we hoped for and more, it had everything we needed - the swimming pool is nicely located behind the villa so as to offer privacy, the views in the surrounding area are spectacular (the view from the balcony is especially lovely!), and inside the villa is kept to a very high standard as well.
Specifically for our group the villa offered excellent kitchen facilities, and a lovely outdoor eating space with traditional and gas BBQs to choose from. Although there is not much in the way of shops or cafes nearby, there is a bar in the village and a shop in Casola (a nearby village) which is easy to access. There is also a lovely river between Casola and Vigneta to which we walked and spent a day out - perfect for a refreshing dip and a bit of gorge walking.
The owner of the villa, Fabio, and his wife were both fantastically accommodating and made sure we had everything we needed. The countryside location of the villa offers the perfect place for relaxation, and opportunities to explore the around Tuscany also. We spent time in Pisa after staying in the villa as it was an easy train ride away, and it was great!
We loved staying in Villa Martini, we would recommend this to friends and family (we already have!) and will definitely return in the future.

Things you may know before to go there
It's noisy. The house is located on a corner of a very busy road where buses, trucks and cars are honking all day long to let everyone know that they are on their way.
It is very authentic, not really Tuscany as you may dream of. It is more Lombardy-like. A (mediavel?) village lost in the hills in the middle of knowhere. Not much to do there (the tennis is devastated, the walking paths idem), not touristic, no nice places to have fun at evening.
You can easily go there with ! people, there is enough rooms for all, but unfortunately there is no big space to gather the whole group in a one place inside the house. Dommage.
If it is cool to have one's private pool in Italy, this one is quite cold (around 22-24 C° - I prefer 26-28).
Mr Martiny is a very nice guy.
Conclusion : I think that the agency is overselling a little bit this villa. It would be better to offer a discounted price and recommand the place for those who are looking for an authentic stop in Apennian village.

Fantastic place and owner!
We loved every minute of the 2 weeks we spend in Fabio's lovely house. We walked every morning to Casola to have a cappucino and a croissant at the small bar on the small square. We spend a lot of time around the pool and barbecued during the evenings. Fabio came with fresh fruit and salad and one day he took some of us in his Toyota 4 wheel drive up in the marple mountains, fantastic trip. We can only recommend this lovely spot in Italy.

Super Martini
Villa Martini is a very interesting, warm and beautiful place to stay. The setting, amongst the vinyards, on the edge of the hamlet, and with a glorious view of the mountains, is one to treasure, and the villa itself brims with thought and feeling, so we all found a favourite feature - a picture, a hatstand, it is really very charming. Your host is very welcoming, kind and considerate, and his garden produce will enhance your pasta sauce. The property was very clean, and all fixtures and fittings were in good working order. I would definitely recommend this villa. Super!

Privacy!
Our family of six adults had a wonderful stay at Villa Martini. The privacy of the pool and the beautiful and quiet surroundings were the biggest plus. Sunbeds for everybody was an additional thumbs up!
The house was beautifully renovated in good materials and one could tell the owner had put his heart and soul into it. The bedrooms were spacious and beds very comfortable.
We spent our days by the pool and did not visit the tourist attractions but there are plenty nearby. Only went out to pick up pizzas at a local restaurant and shop for groceries.
We all would like to come back as this was one of the best holiday villas we have ever stayed in!

An authentic and peaceful paradise for 2 families
This house is a LOT nicer than the description and pictures on the internet. It's in a stunningly beautiful part of northern Italy, in a gorgeous and quiet rural landscape of ancient hilltop villages, small farms, lush forests and spectacular spiky mountains. The house is located in a tiny, authentic and rather ramshackle medieval village far from the tourist frenzy. But the main centres for this frenzy, like the Cinque Terre and Lucca - which admittedly are well worth a visit - are all easily accessible with a comfortable train from a nearby village. But the sense of relief when returning to this lovely house after being exhausted in these places is hard to describe. Retiring to the beautiful swimming pool with a glass of local wine and a plate full of the local culinary delights was a highlight of every day! The house is beautifully and tastefully appointed with everything you could ever wish for. It very comfortably accommodates two families (as we had), each with two children, and the expansive lawns and gardens (created by Fabio, the very friendly and helpful host and owner, who is a retired landscape architect) have enough room for even the most active children to have more fun than you can imagine (our collective four boys certainly did!). The views from the raised garden and pool, and the ambience of the house, are simply outstanding. There are lots of really interesting medieval villages to explore immediately in the vicinity, and none of them have been spoiled by tourism. They are pretty much as they have always been, which makes this area very special. So if your aim is to have a very relaxing holiday, with lots of cultural and culinary treats to discover and where the kids can have lots of room to run around (and a very big and beautiful swimming pool to cool off in), then this is the place for you. I really can't recommend this house - or Fabio - more warmly. Both are gems. We are definitely coming back!

Perfect Tuscan Retreat
Clean, spacious and very well maintained.
Fantastic views from the house and pool.
In the center of a very unspoiled area.
A train trip to Cinque Terre is worth the effort.

Perfect peace in the Tuscan hills
The villa is set in the most beautiful surroundings, truly away from it all. It was very spacious and clean with everything you need. Fabio visited with fresh vegetables and advice on the local area, he was very helpful even printed off the train timetable for us. The village is small and the locals are very friendly. We came across Bepe on one of our walks, he lives behind the vineyard and offered us wine to taste which was very kind. The local bar is well worth a visit or two, the barman gave us free pizza and snacks with out drinks. The bread lady calls daily, it took us a couple of days to work out that we had to put the bag and money (2€) on the gate. She spoke some English and left our order daily. The train in Aulla is about a 25min drive but just a few euros to go to some beautiful places, Riomaggiore and Lucca were our favourite. The best part of the holiday was laying by the pool and taking in the views all around, wonderful.

Beautiful and spacious villa!
This property was perfect for our extended family. It was well-appointed and spacious and was within driving distance of all the main sights, including the Cinque Terre, Lucca, Pisa and Florence. What I will miss is the delightful sound of the bees in the fragrant lavendar and honeysuckle by the pool. Fabio was a wonderful host, bring us fresh produce and his great smile. Wonderful memories!

Fantastic estate in Northern Tuscany
We would like to give this beautiful villa in the tuscan hills our warmest recommendations. The house was absolutely stunning and the surroundings breathtaking! The house was very clean and well maintained and so was the pool. Our kids really liked to pool! It is located in a very quiet village - away from almost everything, which was very nice and relaxing for us. Another benefit was the closeness to a train station, which made it very easy to travel by train to Lucca and Cinque Terre. The owner provided excellent service and brought us fruit and local wine! He was also very helpful when it came to recommending tourist attractions and, in addition, there were plenty of maps and broschures in the house. You really need a car if you want to stay in this villa as it is quite far away. We bought most of our food in Aulla. There are grocery stores closer than that but the supply is of course not as good. We went to the beach in Marinella di Carrara which was nice. We recommend that you take the mountain road to the beach at least once as it is a stunning ride.
Renting this villa was money well spent!
