About this house rental
A down to earth 4 bedroom, 2 bath home nestled in the woods that features 2 large gathering rooms (one is a theater room) and a huge covered front porch. There is a full kitchen and two separate eating areas. We also have an external gameroom/hangout in our big red barn called the Hideout Saloon.
The main part of the house was built by my grandad in 1946.
The trim around the doors and windows are all made from aged pine that he had saved in the 1950's.
We have central air and heat.
There is a 4 foot fire ring perfect for cooking, making s'mores, or just relaxing.
There is a washer and dryer for your use.
We have a charcoal grill for you to use...bring your own charcoal and starter fluid.
There is a tankless water heater so you can take back to back showers. Sorry no bathtubs.
Come relax and just chill. The sandy beach is only a mile away as is the rest of town or relax on our 42ft covered porch
Firewood is available to use if it is in the shed. If not, then Jack can deliver a full cord of oak if you desire for around $80. Please contact him directly prior to your stay and mention that you are staying at Hideout in the Woods. 989-370-0822. He is cash only and can dump the wood right by the firepit.
The Hideout Saloon is now open and equipped with a pool table, dart board, foosball, sound system, player piano, and custom made bar. This space can be heated by 2 propane heaters that we provide along with the tanks. You are responsible for the propane.
Make sure you checkout the pictures. Please note that the Hideout Saloon is available to you, but please do not review us on its cleanliness as it lives in the woods in an old pole barn.

Perfect house for a group of friends who went on a golf trip. The saloon is great. Beds are comfortable.

This place was great! So private and peaceful.

A sense of isolation yet close to amenities. Only a mile or so from town and close to a beach.

This house is the perfect up north get away in the woods. Plenty of room, close to town, so much to do and plenty of room to spread out. The theater surround sound and saloon was fun for the kids and adults. The kitchen has all you need. The front porch was a perfect morning spot for coffee and we even had deer walk through the front yard. Plenty of room to park the boat and the beds were also very comfortable. The communication with the host was top notch. You won't be sorry if you book here!

Lots of room for our 9 family members, our dog, and for local family to visit. It’s a clean and comfortable place with all the amenities you’d need. We enjoyed the fire pit, Saloon, and what a media room!! We were very close to stores, restaurants and such too. Thank you Steve!

My extended family and I were in the area for a wedding and needed a place that could house 6 adults and 7 kids ranging in age from 1-7. This was a great find and we loved utilizing the outdoor fire pit.

A wonderful property with space for the whole family and then some! We enjoyed the bonus of the saloon and spent a great time playing the games in there. Absolutely loved the privacy of being in the woods and the trails get not far from stores and the towns. Comfortble beds and plenty of places to sit and relax.

What a cozy, unique, & homey cabin in Northern Michigan. We spent this weekend with our niece's & nephews (12 of us) as a getaway Christmas Gift. This was our 1st time doing this & this will Not be the last time. This place was PERFECT for our weekend. Most all of us had never explored this part of Michigan and loved exploring. We saw scenic overviews & climbed dunes of the AuSable River, beach front of Lake Huron, and Huron-Manistee National Forests Lumberman's Monument, it was a Blast and the "Hideout in the woods" was in a ideal location for that! The cabin held us all Very comfortably, absolutely loved the dinner table that we ALL fit at. The theater room was a great place for games & entertainment. Scavenger hunt entertained & challenged the kids.
Amazing fire pit ring we spent LOTS of time around. I can Not say enough about how fantastic Steve(the owner) was at fast responses to all of my Q's, and I had a lot of them as this was my 1st vrbo rental ever.
My husband and the kids all raved about how comfortable the beds were & we all LOVED the hideout saloon. My only disappointment was how fast our time went. Everyone was already taking about "next year". Thank you, "Hideout in the woods" for being the place where we made unforgettable memories with our family, that are priceless!!

Brought in the New Year around the fire ring and enjoyed games in the saloon. Bathrooms/Shower was nice. The location of the cabin to town was very convenient.

We had a great time relaxing in the woods! It was winter so we didn’t spend a lot of time outside. We did however use the saloon and play pool and foosball and darts! Inside it’s a charming cabin with 4 bedrooms. Cute little twin beds are slid into the wall in upstairs bedrooms creating sleeping places for more people. Huge table in main part of house for meals and board games. It’s quiet, no one bothers you and yet there’s a store a mile away if you need something. Host was also very easy to contact and ask questions. Nice little cabin in the woods in rural northern Michigan.

First night there, my sister woke up and noticed her bed was filled with little red bed bugs. She has bites all over her. The host sent someone to spray. She saw a bedbug and said, "yes, that's a bed bug, we use this spray all the time, IT WORKS". She did not go through every room like she says. The host is trying to say it's fleas from my dog. My dog was never in that room prior. The host and cleaning attendant are very rude. I was hung up on. This is not a listing anyone should use. With such good reviews, we are very aur

My husband and I stayed at this place with our five kids, my parents, brother & sis in law. We really enjoyed our time inside & out! All of us enjoyed being outside in the woods as well as visiting local attractions on the nice days. We also had stuff to do inside when a couple of storms passed through. The hosts make such an effort to make you feel comfortable during your stay and have provided so many personal touches! We were sad to see our time there end. We had a great time!

Amazing!
We came on vacation with 3 families and had an amazing time! The area is amazing, the house made us think of the Burrow from Harry Potter! We loved the outdoor spaces and the kids loved playing in the saloon! We are already talking about coming back next summer!

Phenomenal stay
Fantastic place to stay, so much to do both at the rental and in the surrounding area. The property is big and has lots of room to hang out but also allow some separation for people to slow down while still allowing others to keep the energy up. Property was super clean and communication was fantastic.

Great for family!
Our kids and grandkids thoroughly enjoyed their time here! The house and property were a lot of fun to explore, lots of room for everyone (14 of us!), and sleeping arrangements were easy for girls, boys, and parents. Our daughters thought the mattresses in the main bedrooms were better than the hotels they stayed in on this trip. Very good communication from the owner to quickly answer all our questions. Will definitely stay here again if travels bring us back to Michigan’s Sunrise Side!

Western Murder Mystery fun!
What a perfect place to have a western murder mystery. The saloon in the barn was
perfect. Lots of room in the cabin for 8 adults. Loved all the family history and special decor by the owners. We didn’t use the fire pit due to rain, but it looked great. Can’t wait to return again.

Family birthday getaway
This suited our needs wonderfully. We had 12 family members and we were comfortable. Could be on other sides of the house and not know what others were doing. The weather was great and we spent much of our time outside playing games and hanging around the fire. We would definitely return!

Fun property!
We had a goos time here. The place was very cute and it had a old house feel(because it is). The layout was somewhat confusing but we liked that about the place! The barn was fun and so was the scavenger hunt they provided. Easy check in. The projector room was angood time too. Would recommend :)

Amazing
We absolutely loved our stay. It was clean and so much space for everyone. Although we didn't get a chance to hang out in the barn we did check it out. The porch may have been one of our favorite places huge and covered so you could enjoy the storms we had while there.

Great Place in the Woods
Great place for a family trip! Very accomodating to dogs and had pretty much everything you need! The saloon was very fun for the whole family. Water pressure was very good and the beds were comfy. Loved all the homemade touches around the cabin!

Great location
We enjoyed our stay at this property. The large porch and saloon were great options to be outdoors with all the rain we had throughout the weekend. Secluded but close to town, canoe rentals and a wonderful beach.

The best thing (besides the HUGE fire pit) about this property is that it feels hidden and remote, but is close to everything. The family who owns the property has put a lot of time and care in making this rental a destination. The beds were so comfy. The kitchen and bathrooms are well equipped. The thermostat worked and was easy to use. Everything was spelled out for us — literally— and we loved all the time put into making the house user friendly. We didn’t spend anytime in the pole barn, but had it been raining we would have been in there all night.Did I mention the HUGE fire pit? It’s truly impressive. Thanks for letting us stay!
