The property is enormous and gracious; the house is a perfect size for our needs and has a lot of charm. But it is the huge pool, the eating and sitting areas, and beauty of the rolling nature there that sets this property apart from others I have seen. What other houses might have in capaciousness, they lack in generous surroundings. Ingrid was superbly accommodating and an adept communicator. The week was a dream. A+

Incredibly beautiful space that has everything you need for a vacation getaway. Amazing backyard with a pool, plenty of seating to relax and recreation areas for play. Great sound system for groups.

Ingrid’s house is magical. We stayed here for 4 days and had everything we needed. The pool was glorious. Sitting by the pond with the bullfrogs and turtles while listening to the multitudes of bird sounds was serene. Our kids playing badminton and ping pong, taking a respite from their swimming was perfect. This house and its garden, with spectacular trees was magical in every way. We felt truly lucky to have found this oasis. And the short walk to the beach another wonderful bonus.
We had everything and thank Ingrid and Bobby for their hospitality. A definite must for us to revisit.

Ingrid and her place was just amazing!!! My family and I do a yearly vacation and this was our first time visiting Shelter Island. The property was three minutes from the south ferry, which was super convenient. The grounds were extremely spacious filled with wild life and nature!! The pool was just perfect!! The house was able to fit all 10 of us with myself and my husband staying in the very cute and private pool house which is separate from the main house. Highly recommend staying at this property! Looking forward to booking this place again in the future!!

Ingrid was very helpful and accommodating. The property is beautiful and the salt-water pool fantastic. Our 2-year-old grandson finally learned to enjoy going into the water after spending a few days playing in the pool. Our daughter, who produces films, was thrilled to learn that her favorite film producer, Sam Green, has spent a lot of time at the property, especially when he was younger.
One thing to be aware of is that the 2 upstairs bathrooms are reached via very steep stairs which some may find difficult to climb and descend. And, there is no bathroom upstairs.
Wades Beach is a relatively easy walk; however, we needed a car for most other outings. Since we had only 1 car, we occasionally tried to use uber or taxi service and found both to be unreliable. We were there just before the July 4th peak. Possibly better service is provided during the peak summer season.
The Welcome book/instructions could have been more complete; however, Ingrid’s helpfulness and availability compensated for that. The VRBO app and website was difficult and time consuming to use once we made the reservation; e.g., there were times when we could not see recent messages from Ingrid and it would do things like indicate that we had no messages even just after notifying us that there was a new message!

Clean, easy to get to, and a great place to stay. Property was gorgeous and plenty of wildlife to see in the yard. Pool is perfect for a nice swim and little to no bugs at night in the back

My friends and family had a wonderful time staying at Ingrid’s place. We lounged by the pool, tossed a football in the backyard, and roasted marshmallows in the fire at night. The house is welcoming and cozy, and just a short drive away from Shelter Island’s many shops, beaches, or the ferry. I couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Loved this home! Would definitely stay again. The house is adorable, clean and comfortable. The pool was incredible and the outdoor activities provided were endless! Visited for the weekend for a friends wedding and I was very happy with this lovely home!

My family very much enjoyed our stay at Cottage Green. The kitchen, pool and expansive property are highlights! The hosts were excellent - responsive, lovely in person and very accommodating.
The cottage has a well appointed kitchen, plenty of towels, washer dryer and room by room A/C. Wifi was consistent. It is a 12-15 min walk to Wades Beach (4 min drive) and a 2 min drive to South Ferry. The driveway holds plenty of cars but is completely blind (treacherous) trying to turn onto S Ferry Road.
The cottage is tiny with only one bathroom in the main house - but there is a second half bath in the pool house + an outdoor shower.
The two upstairs bedroom are suitable for children - as they are accessed by ladder - not stairs. The two main floor bedrooms are very tiny but adequate. Beds could use some upgrading.
Overall, excellent choice for a small family's vacation on lovely Shelter Island.

Perfect family getaway
Exceptionally clean, fully renovated and well-equipped quaint cottage was perfect for a short or extended stay. Although on the smaller side, the house had more than enough room for myself, my husband and three teens. We loved the expansive yard with badminton, fire pit and gorgeous gunite pool. I highly recommend this property!

Heavenly! A magical cottage!
We just had the loveliest stay at the Cottage Green. The house is very clean and well decorated, located a short walk from the beach and Vine Street Cafe. The pool is fabulous and the grounds are so beautiful! We can’t wait to return again!

A Must Rent
My family and I stayed for 4 days at this house and are still talking about it. The house itself was exceptionally clean, with an incredible updated Kitchen, a great screened in porch to sit in at night, and 4 comfortable bedrooms. But its the outside that is absolutely incredible - the Salt Water pool and outdoor patio and lounge chairs were where we hung out the majority of our days. We felt like we were living at a resort.
This was our first trip to Shelter Island and I can easily see us coming back and staying at this incredible house.

We loved our stay here. The yard and pool are beautiful and spacious and the house was clean, cozy and exactly as advertised. We spent most of our time on the screened in porch! The owners were so responsive and even dropped off something we needed mid-stay. We would love to go back one day.

We spent a perfect week in shelter island. The cottage is quiet, private, and well maintained.
The property is gorgeous and secluded - several wooded acres with no neighbors in sight. It’s a quick walk to the beach and to vine st for dinner.
The backyard is expansive, with a huge pool, badminton, ping pong, etc. there is even a small pond with a firepit.
The pool house makes for a great extra bedroom with its own bathroom. The rooms upstairs are better for kids or younger folks.
The kitchen is brand new, with everything you need to cook for a group.
It’s a great spot for 2-3 people to work remotely. The WiFi is blazing fast (can easily handle multiple video calls at once). There are three private tables to work inside - one desk in a bedroom, a table in the kitchen, and a table in the living room. If the weather is nice you can also work on the large table in the screened in porch or in the back.
The owners are responsive and friendly. We had an issue with the dishwasher and they sent out a plumber to replace it the next day. We would definitely like to come back.

Great stay
We had an amazing time in our week long local vacation. Ingrid was always available when we had questions. The pool was perfect and exactly what we needed. The heating feature was key as our trip took place late in the summer. We would definitely love to go back!

Cute house, lovely pool, but be aware of Lay-out
The hosts were great, the setting and pool were lovely, but the house and some amenities were not represented exactly right. There are 4 bedrooms, but 2 upstairs are for kids, given the ladder that has to be climbed to reach them. One of the downstairs bedrooms doesn’t have an air conditioner . There are no or very light window coverings in bedrooms, so light comes in early. We lost cable and internet due to the storm early in the stay and it never came back on, so I can’t comment on the TV or internet strength, but cell service is very weak where the house is.

The outdoors area is really special, with a beautiful new pool surrounded by old growth trees in a park like setting. The pool is new and has a solar cover, which kept it warm. We never had to turn on the pool heater, whereas in previous rentals we've always had to run the heater at least some of the time. The pool amenities were excellent, with lots of seating and umbrellas. There's also a nice little pool house with a kitchenette (including another fridge), bathroom, TV and fold-out couch. There's also a hammock, badminton, a ping pong table, and an outdoor fire pit, perfect for s'mores.
The house itself is quite small but very comfortable. The kitchen has a big new fridge and all the conveniences. The living room is large, with the biggest TV (also TVs in the bedrooms), and a lot of seating. The two bedrooms in the attic are not really appropriate for young children or an older person because access is more “ladder like” than stairs. The house is adjacent to the road but set well back, so the only traffic noise we noticed was for 10 minutes or so at the 5:30 “rush hour”!
Shelter Island itself is very quiet and lightly trafficked. To go to the beach we would usually take the back exit off the property and then bike (4 minutes) or drive (2 mins) to Wades Beach. We brought our own bikes but there were 5 bikes at the cottage which were great for guests. We biked all over - there's not many cars on the roads, and the drivers are very courteous about bicycles.
The owners could not have been nicer, super accommodating and instantly available if you need them, but casual enough that we felt like we were in our own home.
We’re already planning our return in 2021! Our happy place!

Cute house, great yard
We rented this adorable house in August 2019 with another family (4 adults, 4 kids) and very much enjoyed our time here. The pictures accurately depict the property. One thing to note, the two kids' bedrooms upstairs are accessed by a very steep staircase - more a ladder than a staircase - so these bedrooms would not be good for young children, someone afraid of heights, or someone with a physical limitation. That being said, the second floor has a tree-house vibe that our kids loved.
The house is recently renovated and the kitchen, in particular, is well done. All of the beds were comfortable. The outdoor space is fabulous. The pool is big and in great condition. The outdoor shower is spacious and the water heats quickly. There is plenty of comfortable outdoor furniture. The pool house has a bedroom (possibly nicer than the bedrooms in the house), a kitchenette and a half bath.
The house is on the south side of Shelter Island. Our kids rode their bikes to Wades Beach. Walking at a leisurely pace, it took 10-15 minutes to walk there.
The owners were very responsive and pleasant.
We would be happy to rent this house again.
