About this house rental
Byam house nestles in a beautiful hillside just above the white sands of Galleon Beach. There are four separate and very private bedrooms each with its own shower room. There are two double bedrooms featuring their own private balconies with stunning views across the bay towards the caribbean sea. All bedrooms have A/C, ceiling fans and mosquito nets over the beds. Tucked beneath the house there is a laundry room with a large capacity washing machine.
Whilst the house is comfortable and private it is not in the modern glass box idiom it is a traditional Caribbean house built to take advantage of the site. I tried to get every room facing the sea. . Near enough to hear the sea lapping on the beach but far enough away to be private . The kitchen opens onto the covered terrace where there is a large dining table and a sitting area .The kitchen also opens onto the garden at the rear so there is always a cool breeze blowing through the house. For those preferring to shelter from the sun indoors, there is a comfortable sitting room that has views over the bay.
The house has its own swimming pool surrounded by a large area of decking and sun beds. The two twin rooms have large french windows that open on to the decking beside the pool. The garden at the front of the house leads down to the unspoilt sand of Galleon beach-and the warm Caribbean Sea .We have a private sun shade rondavel on the beach There are beach chairs and there is a kayak which is kept at the house..
Just across the crystal clear blue waters of English harbour sits the historic Nelson's Dockyard which is as rich in naval history as it is in local culture, food and hospitality. You can discover the forts and cannons that once protected the harbour, and you can't fail to spot the odd anchor still resting in the very spot where it was once laid down by Nelson's fleet. The dockyard itself is a triumph of restoration, incorporating local shops, bars and restaurants, which blend beautifully into the Georgian elegance and grandeur of one of the most historically important and prestigious dockyards in the world.
The unbeatable location and surroundings of English Harbour mean that the elegance of Byam house, with it's stunning verandah, pool and balconies, is only the beginning....

Guests loved the traditional Caribbean style house with a super pool, comfy beds, and great beach access. The housekeeper was friendly and helpful. Excellent location for enjoying the beach, dockyard, and local attractions.

I'd wondered about this house for years then saw it on VRBO. It's a cracking traditional Caribbean style house just steps from the beach with it's own Tiki umbrella & a super pool. Location is fabulous for Galleon Bay with it's great beach bar and resident turtles in the water. The ferry-taxi goes to Nelson's Dockyard several times an hour from the pontoon outside where you can walk to everything you need. We were a group of adults who came to enjoy the house, beach, dockyard, harbour and daily hikes up to Shirley Heights. Roma the lovely housekeeper always looked after us with a big smile every day, doing the chores that we don't want to do on holiday. Beds are super comfy and you can never tire of the view from the veranda. Very special place and would definitely love to come back.

The house was perfect for the 3 small families that occupied it for the week. There is plenty of room for everyone to either gather together or have their own private space. The pool overlooking the bay is beautiful. Highly recommended for a gathering of family or friends.

Our second time to Antigua and wanted to stay near English Harbour. Location was great. Property was clean and owner/housekeeper Roma were both very helpful. Felt, however, that the description of property needs updating... the 4 bedrooms at villa are all separate (ie outside) to the small lounge/kitchen so while property would be great for 4 separate couples it may not suit a family with children. Another example is that the beach-hut shown isnt for the villa (in fact its the security hut for nearby Galleon Beach club resort). Had some trouble finding villa from description of location too. Owner was however really responsive for every question and we had lovely time in Antigua.

The house was laid out well for our two family vacation with teens. Wonderful location! Property manager is incredibly responsive and the housekeeper is wonderful. We loved staying at the Byam house.

Lovely villa, right next to the beach. Such a warm welcome from Miriam the housekeeper who we all took to our hearts. The rooms were great and the air conditioning very welcome - would recommend taking mosquito repellent as they were in numbers whilst
we were there in August. Loved Trappas and Sweet T’s and Covent Garden supermarket was a short drive away with everything we needed. Snorkelling is good from the beach and all the locals were very friendly.

We couldn't be more pleased with our stay at bayam house. Communication was superb, the house was well designed giving all couples their own space with a nice shared space. Kitchen is well stocked and BBQ worked perfectly. Beach is a few steps away and is lovely. Turtles, barracuda, and other fish spotted. Water taxi comes on the hour. Antiguans are so friendly and helpful. A great week spent there. And Miriam the house keeper is a delight.

This house is a 1 minute stroll downhill to Galleon Beach. My family and I snorkeled, swam, and kayaked here. Everyday we saw sting Ray's, sea turtles, and various other colorful fish. There is also a private beach hut with chairs and a palapa for guests of Byam house which was a plus. At night the beach was perfect to walk down and star gaze. It's also a close 8 10 minute drive into Nelson's dockyard. The overall layout of the house was amazing with great views of english harbour and perfectly private, clean, and spacious rooms. The house keeper Miriam absolutely made our stay so much more enjoyable. She recommended things to do and any other island info we needed. Our family of 7 really enjoyed our conversations with her daily. pigeon beach is an amazing 10 minute drive away with really calm waters perfect for floating, families, and picnics with palapas. Also Jim was quickly responsive to any questions I had and I had alot. Our wifi went out twice and it was fixed within the hour. When your here you want wont wifi very much anyways. The views at anytime time of day will make you feel completely removed from your life back at home. This was a delightful vacation and we could not have asked for a better location.

Our stay at Byam House has been everything we wanted from a Caribbean get away. The layout of the house is great for people holidaying as a group. Everything you need is here and Miriam is an absolute treasure providing advice on everything local. The English Harbour area is great and we particularly liked Nelson's Dockyard.

We recently returned from our stay at Byam House. There were 8 of us & we had a wonderful time! We loved the location, only a 2 minute walk to the beach. The view from the pool & upper deck was breathtaking! We loved watching the sailboats, catamarans & yachts anchored at Galleon Beach or coming & going from Nelson Dockyard. All the bedrooms had a beautiful view of the beach. The kitchen was well equipped. The housekeeper, Miriam was a real gem. Just a lovely lady. She offered advice when asked about restaurants, where to get groceries & general knowledge about the island. We used the free water taxi frequently to go to Nelson Dockyard. What a great service! Be sure to visit Shirley Heights. We hiked up there in the day time to check out the view. Don't forget your camera. The view from up there is amazing! Also the barbeque & entertainment on Sunday nights there is a lot of fun. The sunset should not be missed. Our favourite beach bar, The Cheeky Marlin has great strawberry daiquiris.
Jim Prentice was wonderful to deal with. He promptly answered all of my questions.
I would highly recommend this house.

This was, by far, the best tropical vacation getaway. The Byam House is absolutely gorgeous, with just the right amount of elegance and still maintaining a lot of charm and Caribbean feel. Now that we are back home, I can't get that incredible place with it's perfect location out of my head. We felt very at home and enjoyed the presence of Miriam, the housekeeper, who felt like family. The island itself has endless exploring opportunities and the islanders are warm and friendly, unlike some other islands. I wish I had part ownership of the home, I want to keep returning to it.

Have just returned from a wonderful weeks family holiday to Antigua. 6 of us stayed in Byam house and we never felt on top of one another. The house is something I couldn't even dream up from my desk back in the UK, fully equipped and super clean (I would know I've work in 7 star service). The property immediately felt like home and with in hours the stress I carried from the UK seeped away as I swam in the warm water from the beach at the bottom of the driveway.
Loved the island of Antigua and the tourist guides left around the house helped us plan which beach to drink our rum on the next day :)
Can not wait to go back to the island and there will be only one place I will stay!

I visited Byam House During Antigua Sailing week and was so impressed I vowed to take my family there in the UK winter. We were not disappointed. we had a wonderful time. The House was well furnished and equipped -very comfortable-in very good condition. and we were looked after so well by Miriam the house keeper.
The 4 Bedrooms were air conditioned-had mossy nets all round the beds- and ceiling fans . The veranda with its views was the center of activity.
Getting about was easy by water taxi in daylight and road taxi by night, easily arranged by the reception at the Beach Club Resort.
We walked the Shirley hts Trails, visited Jolly Hbr- Pigeon Beach- Willoughby bay
and dinned in several good local restaurants.
Thanks very much- A great Success
Byam house is in the best Spot on the Island. Our intention is to return

The idyllic location brought us back to Byam House for the 3rd time in February. We were delighted to find so many improvements to the house. The new nets over the beds are not only practical but make the newly refurbished bedrooms look stunning. It is just a 30 metre stagger to the beach where swimming and turtle spotting provided our entertainment.

Arrived hot and tired from the airport but spirits soared on seeing the pool and all the rooms opening up to breezy sea views.
Air conditioning units worked well and surprisingly quietly but the french windows gave plenty of natural air to the bedrooms. Mozzi nets around the beds meant that doors could be left open at night. We found no mozzies (couldnt understand where they'd gone), just a bit of ankle attack in the evenings from noseeums.
Highlight of the house for us was the veranda with it's big dining table and separate comfortable seating area - perfect for long evenings of carousing, and the views - this really is the best location in paradise.
We walked early mornings around the clifftops and up to Shirley Heights and found some stunning trails, cooling off swimming from the private beach.
Loads of restaurants available nearby ranging from economy to grand either a short taxi ride or take the water taxi across to English Harbour.
We'll be going back as soon as we can.
