We really enjoyed our almost-week at this home! It’s a well appointed rental, walking distance to Eastsound with many features to love - it’s right on the water, with its own private beach, fire pit, and outdoor grilling area. A huge lawn for playing games with family. The house has a lovely wrap around porch we hung out on a lot. Our host was gracious with many great recommendations for our stay.
The only thing I didn’t realize from the listing is the bedroom config upstairs. 3 bedrooms and a bathroom, but only two doors off hallway to access 4 rooms. The two bedrooms share a bathroom Jack and Jill style and the bunk bed room has to go downstairs for the bathroom in the middle of the night - or walk through the other bedroom to get to the bathroom. Not a big deal, and I probably just missed it in the listing.
Overall a great stay, and we would definitely visit again! So peaceful!

Our trip to Orcas Island centered on our island- resident granddaughter’s wedding, five of us convening from New York and Portland to attend. This house is exquisitely situated a few minute’s walk to town, with water view and private beach. The most thoroughly well-equipped rental house we’ve ever experienced, which made cooking and just generally being there very easy. The layout was perfect for our two resident groupings—my husband & I and our daughter, her partner & his 8 yr old—with many comfy areas in which to gather. As we boarded the ferry 8-year-old Atticus said “I’m gonna miss that house.” We’ll be back again next year.

We loved our stay. The house is so charming, and very well stocked and well kept. Lots of toys and games for the kids, and tons of pots/pans/utensils in the kitchen.
The setting couldn’t be beat. It’s quiet and right on the beach. But you can also walk right into town.
One note is that the house (as described) is older and comes with all the quirks of an older home. But windows (screened), hot tub, washer/dryer are all up to date.
We would absolutely book again!

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our week in Eastsound with our two young children (6 and 4). The views from the front porch were unbeatable and the location was incredible. Thank you Terry for sharing your home with our family and we hope to return again in the future.

Wonderful Orcas
We had a terrific stay here…house was comfortable, hog tub was fun, but the setting and the beach were the highlight? All ages loved it, playing cards on the deck, gathering treasures in the water and walking easily into town.

Great place to stay with easy access to Orcas Island activities
Perfect for stand up paddle-boarder. Perfect for family who likes to cook and dine in, as you can walk to grocery store, and even to all restaurants if you like. Great beach and sound view. House quiet and well stocked for cooks. Loved sitting on porch watching birds, tides, and hummingbirds. Great location to visit all harbors and hike in moran state park. We loved staying in this perfect spot next to Cresent Beach.

Best rental we’ve ever had!
I don’t really have words. You pull into the driveway and look down at the gorgeous grounds and water and you’re mesmerized. Don’t overplan if you are staying here because you won’t want to leave. Ever. Communication with the owner is phenomenal and the home is incredibly well stocked with anything you’d need and oh so comfortable. It’s just idyllic. We rent a lot of VRBOs all over and this one takes the cake. Just exceptional.

Amazing Farmhouse Vacation
We stayed for 3 weeks in this beautifully maintained property and it was magical. Very clean and well appointed. Big house, big lawn, perfect beach, the hot tub, minutes walk to Eastsound. Trees, birds, deer, seals, kayaking, whale tours, the works! The hosts (Darcy & Terry) went 1000% above and beyond to make us comfortable, networked and content. We hope to come back every year. My son had that magical outdoor summer vacation you dream of. Couldn’t find that anywhere else. As a frequent VRBO renter, easily a top 2 of all we have ever stayed in. So grateful for the experience.

A great find
This is a beautiful property in the perfect location on Orcas. The owners were friendly and communicative. We had a great time as a family exploring the private beaches and relaxing on the ample grounds. We had a bit of a glitch upon arrival with some dead flies that the cleaners didn’t see, but the owners quickly took care of it and there were no other issues. That was a minor issue at the end of the day. If you’re considering booking here, you won’t regret it!

Unbeatable location
We spent two weeks at this property and grew to appreciate it more with each day. The combination of waterfront, with amazing tidelands to explore, and the proximity to Eastsound made it perfect for our little family getaway. Kids felt comfortable walking or riding their bikes to town, as well as just exploring the beach and tidelands. It felt very easy to settle in relax. The owner (Terry) is delightful and we enjoyed hearing about the property and island history from her.
One important note in our current work from home environment is that the speed and reliability of the internet is not guaranteed. I found it to be a great excuse to take a break from Zoom.

Probably one of the top 3 short terms rentals I have ever stayed at
Everything about this place is fantastic. It's close to East Sound town center, on the water, not too far from the ferrys--just fantastic. Had the opportunity to meet the owner and she is awesome as well!

We enjoyed our stay - we had a couple snags (the hot tub was out of commission) but over all a great stay!

Amazing location on orcas
Stayed at the rustic home with my kids and friends. Was a great spot for us. The layout of the house is a little funky for non family members but we made it work. Cannot beat the location to Eastsound. Darcy is very sweet and helpful. Thanks again!

Enchanting Private Beach for making memories Near Everything
Our Adult family Vacationed here- so many happy and restful hours.
The acreage is encircled by ancient madrone and fir...the private beach is a great place to play, hang out, kayak and Swim- East Sound, and Moran State Park were great for us shopping and hiking. Yes, even during COVID.. We enjoyed having 3 different choices of where to dine on the property- We dropped carb pots and maxed out on crab, which is such a treat for us city folk. It’s hard to leave, but we’re taking so many happy and enriching memories of our time here.
The pictures are accurate- Terry is friendly and easy to communicate with.

Phenomenal location and property
We are a family of 5 with school aged kids and we had a fabulous time -- quintessential PNW summer vacation. Quaint older home (slightly quirky and funky layout) but that has everything you need -- even though it's only 1.5 baths the shower has plenty of hot water and good water pressure which is all you really need after spending all day outside either on their gorgeous, private (rocky) beach adjacent to Cresent Beach (where you can rent kayaks) or hiking local mountains (all within a 15 minutes drive and some of the best views, you can find a trail of any length or difficulty), or exploring Eastsound which is literally less than a 5 minute walk! Great place to unwind at end of the day with hot tub, fantastic outdoor spaces with BBQ grill, s'mores on the fire at waterside outdoor fire pit. Extra large capacity powerhouse washer and dryer, also critical for any family vacation. Owner lives on the property in a smaller guest house and very helpful.

This house is in a great location on Orcas -- walking distance to East Sound and accessible to all parts of the Island. Darcy was very nice and communicative. She made sure we knew all the great spots to go to on the Island. We had a great time!

Perfectly rustic
We had 3 generations staying together in this home for a week. We had plenty of space to enjoy each other and for relaxing. I loved the "beach" for early morning meditations and reading and again in the evenings for family time and bonfires and grilling dinner. I also.loved the daybed on the deck. We had daily visits from deer in the yard. A perfectly rustic and charming place for a very memorable family vacation.

Exactly where you want to be on Orcas Island
This property is lovely with a fantastic location that provides a waterfront experience that is also an easy walk to wonderful Eastsound. Really a perfect spot. The farmhouse is warm, inviting and well equipped. As cooks we appreciated finding everything we needed in the kitchen -- as well as more than ample towels and other supplies. Rooms are nicely furnishes and spacious; the inviting pictures are accurate! The host is practically onsite (a separate house on the property), and she was very generous with great suggestions on how to enjoy the amazing area. We would love to return and have more time -- to further explore Orcas, the other San Juan Islands and take advantage of the fire pit by the water!

Family Time
Just what our family needed - time to slow down and reconnect with each other. Caught fish during the day threw it in the outdoor Firepit with corn and potatoes - very nice and relaxing. House was perfect, nice kitchen stocked with the basics.

Secret Hideaway!
What an awesome property! Pictures don't do it justice. It is very secluded yet very close to town. The private beach, fire pit and hot tub were awesome. Couldn't find anything else like it! Can't wait to come back. Highly recommend.

Lovely family vacation
We enjoyed a beautiful 5 night stay at this lovely property. Our only complaint is that we didn't book it for longer! We had 6 in our party - 3 children (ages 7-12) and 3 adults. The house is a well-kept old farmhouse with so much charm and ample room for us all. The location is amazing. Seriously, less than a 5 minute walk into town (Brown Bear Baking pastries and lattes for breakfast!) but back at the house, we felt completely secluded. (Faint traffic noise from nearby road but the trees and natural shape of the bay keep it minimal.) Even more amazing is the big lawn and beach front. The kids spent hours roaming the shores for shells. We dug up clams at low tide and made clam chowder. (You can walk all the way around the bay then!) Even if you hardly pull any clams out of the sand, just looking for the holes and "spirts" is an adventure in itself. This is a perfect property for kids of all ages - even toddlers. Loads of space to wander around safely while adults can sit and keep watch. Every evening we had a special guest for our dinner out on the porch: a bald eagle (who we named "Sam") sat high in a nearby tree. Easy drive (20min?) to Moran State Park with hiking and swimming in the lakes. We had sunny, warm weather while we were there, but even if it had been cloudy and colder, the house and location are perfect for sitting and reading (partially covered porch,) playing games, walking on the beach etc. ( Oh! And the hot tub! - cannot forget the hot tub.)
The one thing to know in advance is that since this is a turn of the century farmhouse, the bedrooms (all upstairs) do not open up into a central hallway. This is a classic design for its time and I'm glad the owners didn't remodel it but it is quite different from modern home design. This means that the bedrooms open up into each other in a circle. So the bunk bed room opens onto the hallway and into the queen bedroom. Then the queen bed room opens up into the upstairs 1/2 bath which then opens up into the king bedroom which opens up again into the hallway. If you are turned around by that description, it just means that to get to the queen bed room or bathroom you have to go through another bedroom (king or bunk bed.) Not a problem for us at all as we just shuffled around who slept where for the best privacy.
My husband is from the Seattle area and spent his summers on Orcas growing up. He loved it and we will definitely return next summer for a full week!

Wonderful place
My wife, daughter and I spent a few nights during spring break here. It's an amazing spot - your own private beach, essentially, and a wonderful yard to play in. Walking the beach every day was just perfect. The house is welcoming and well stocked - the towels are plentiful and fluffy! It was so nice to be able to just walk to Eastsound, too. Darcy was super helpful and informative in the reservations process and leading up to check in. Overall great!

Beautiful Ole'Timey Farm House on the Beach.
We were looking for a comfortable, relaxing, waterfront spot for a mini family vacation (Myself, Wife & 2yr old daughter) and the Madrona House was perfect! This home reminds me of spending Summers of my youth at my Grandparents waterfront home. Only a 5 min walk to the heart of town!! I wish I could've spent more time in the hammock or strolling the beach, but the hottub kept calling me! The views, smell of salt air, wildlife (heron, bald eagles- 5 of them "fishing") and the coziness of this home, was exactly what we needed. Our daughter loved playing on the covered deck and running up and down the very large lawn. We loved it here and intend on returning to Madrona House for future visits to the Island.

Fall getaway
We flew in for the weekend, we were 2 couples, tons of good food, wine and greenery. Beautiful and relaxing place. We bought AMAZING oysters from the gas station minutes away, which also happen to be raised on the beach infront of this house. We ate them for almost every meal and had cozy evenings by the fire. Town was quiet (tourist season had ended), the island was lush and green and completely beautiful.
