Spent an amazing week in San Juan and loved this location. Kitchen had everything! kids loved spending the afternoon sunning on the dock with seals swimming by. we walked to Roche Harbor for lunch and loved watching the sunset from the nearby neighborhood beach.
More great restaurants 15 min from the house and a fun town to shop in. We did the whale watching cruise and saw a family of orcas.
The beds were comfy. The house was clean and had everything we needed. small, simple and perfect. would love to go back!

We had a lovely time on San Juan Island. Saw deer, birds, and seals from the deck of this house and Ircas off cattle point and Reuben Tarte Park. The house had everything we needed to cook at home: we made clam chowder, lunch picnics for our outings and even shucked oysters. At the end of the long day if hiking and following orca sightings around the island we would play card games in front of the fire place in the house. No screens was absolutely a delight with this house- my 10 year old never noticed the absence of a tv. We'd for sure come again and stay in this lovely retreat. The house had plenty of spices( salt pepper, etc. Plenty of cookware, 2 different coffee makers- and coffee, plenty of bird books, binoculars, blankets, soap, etc. The hosts really did think of EVERYTHING!

Easy access, clean, great property with great views. Only issue was sporadic wifi connection.

A lovely property in a serene setting. Clean, organized, and welcoming. My two teen boys slept in the loft (one on the bed, one on an air mattress), my daughter in the bed, and my husband and I had the mini-me cabin to ourselves. Kitchen is well appointed and everything has its place. Saw seals and lots of birds (and a couple BIG raccoons), and enjoyed watching the changing landscape as the tide went out and came in. A real gem!

We loved the setting of this property amongst the tall evergreen trees and the proximity to the charming and historical Roche Harbor. The two cabins were well appointed, clean and the perfect size for all of us to enjoy each other and also have our privacy when desired. There were three deer that greeted us on the property which seemed like a nice omen. Our only regret was that we weren't able to stay longer. We would love to return someday for a longer stay.

Very tidy, easy check-in, gorgeous deck and location on Neil Bay, nice walk into Roche. This place is small! But charming and well-equipped! Even with the mini-me, it was still cozy quarters for our family of two adults and two teenagers.

This was a beautiful location. We were surprised at the outdated cabin. As we read through the property family history it was obvious that this property was well loved. However, under new ownership maybe it can be updated to reflect the price. We did not have use of the Mini Me cabin but it seemed like a cute place for a larger family.
4.5
We enjoyed our stay. The living spaces are small but organized well and functional. Note that the the loft mattress is thin and the Mini-Me shower pan needs to be replaced or repaired. The dock is pretty but I’m not confident you can swim in the water. We would book this rental again.
4.5
The house and mini-me cabin were perfect for our stay. The kitchen had everything needed and the units were clean and well stocked. The access to the water was wonderful for our many kayaking and paddling adventures. Thoroughly enjoyed the property.

Another wonderful stay at Ragnar’s cabins. Hopefully, the new owners will not tear them down and build another Amazonian monstrosity. A humble cabin in the woods by the water should be enough for anyone, it’s a special place.

Reviewer Comments:
We were expecting a really incredible place as this place cost us over $1,000 per night (including taxes and fees). We have stayed on San Juan Island at different places for about 30 years, usually renting from San Juan Property Management. We could not get our usual place this year so we elected to go with Neil Bay Waterfront Retreat. The photos on the website make the place look much bigger but in reality, the main cabin is really small, more like a studio. There were basically no sitting area. The upstairs loft had a bed with a thin mattress on a wooden slate, super uncomfortable. The view was of a water inlet when the tide was not low; with low tide, it was a view of mud and water. The mini-cabin was nice. The main cabin was actually comfortable if you did not use the loft. However, it definitely is not worth $1,000 per night. Our main complaint was the cost. Incredible that they are charging over $1,000 for this place; the actual value should be $500 or less. With a $1,000 cost, we were expecting a way better place and basically, we thought that the price was extraodinary high. We have never paid this much for a rental and our expectations were far greater with this price. I do not want to be too harsh but given the price, it was a rip-off.As mentioned above, we have been going to San Juan Island for over 30 years. This year, in addition to San Juan Island, we are also going to Lopez and Orcas Islands, as we usually do. We have rented places in the $350 range that are far superior to this place, on the beach, with incredible views and charming accomodations. We had done the same in the past on San Juan Island. Again, for $1,000 per night, I would avoid this place. It is horrible value for what they are charging.

A wonderful location tucked away on a remote part of San Juan Island. It was so fun having our own little retreat with multiple cabins. The only drawback was the management company. Constant threatening reminders that we will pay for late check out or early check in, an exorbitant cleaning fee with and a cleaning list to complete during check out were not very friendly or accommodating for such an expensive stay.

It is a great location but the cabin is tiny. The pictures make it look much bigger. If the weather is nice you are fine but if not this place is too small for more than 2 people to comfortably spend a weekend. It is very well equipped.

Our family of 5 enjoyed our stay very much. Lots of exploring, plenty of wildlife and a comfortable and well equipped cabin. You can’t beat the location and views. Many memories were made. Thank you for sharing your place with us! Tak!
4.5
Wonderful spot for relaxation and kayaking. The layout of the property is nice. The two cabins had everything we needed and we plan on returning. The inlet has clear/calm water and during our stay curious seals would swim with us while kayaking. Great place to learn or get comfortable. The only thing I would change would be the fireplace reliability but this didnt make or break our stay as the cabins stay at a very comfortable temp. It would have been nice for the ambiance however we were lucky with nice weather so we were able to enjoy the outdoor fire. We had a very nice vacation and made some great memories, thank you for sharing your piece of paradise!
4.5
I would give this Stay a full 6 stars if I could. The cabin and little additional suite were absolutely beautiful, well stocked, and exceptionally appointed with everything you could ever want for a nice little romantic getaway, or family trip, or whatever. Very nice.
4.5
House(s) were super adorable. The additional mini me cabin was perfect for our teenage son. Nice fire pit area and well stocked kitchen.
Had an issue with the pilot light on the fireplace (totally my fault) and someone came to fix it the next morning. Very responsive.
Only thing to note, for checkout it says load dishwasher, but there is no dishwasher. Not a big deal at all, just be aware.
Excellent stay, great location, would love to come back! Thanks

We enjoyed our stay at Neil Bay Waterfront. We had it rented for 8 nights but only stayed 7 due to our travel times and the ferry times. When we arrived the inside was fairly clean but we did spend some time sweeping up and cleaning the patios a bit so they were enjoyable for our stay. One of the disappoints was due to the outdoor fire pit. We were there after October 4th and the San Juan county website the full fire ban was no longer in effect but there was a sign saying no fires allowed in the pit. I even called and they confirmed that no fires were allowed due to the weather. Other properties on the street had outdoor fires as well and that wa some of the considerations that made us choose this property for the price. We did have to work remotely and the internet in the mini cabin was fantastic! The main cabin not so great but after some adjustments on the locations of their Wi-Fi extenders we got 80mbps download which was w ouch to run video and calls remotely. The dock also had a boat pad locked too it so it made it not as usable as it should have been. I am sure I could have called the company and had it removed but for the price and the dock listed in the description it should automatically be removed when they rent it out. Other than those items this was a great cabin. Felt secure and safe. Small run ins with fox and raccoons that someone else must have fed so just be aware if you have small dog and I would suggest leaving the patio door open as the fox would have came right in. The location was great. Nothing on the island is far but this was super close to Roche Harbor which was great. The property company was very nice the few times I talked to them and they even texted us a half hour early when the property was ready. There was everything you needed on the kitchen and the laundry worked great.
4.5
Lovely property. The two cabin set up was perfect for two groups to have their own space and the deck provided a great area for coming together. If we were traveling with another couple or family member we would for sure return. Kitchen well stocked, beds were on the hard side but that’s some peoples preference (my dad found it comfortable). Beautiful view and overall very comfortable rooms.
My only complaint is that it’s a pretty early check-out (10am) for check-in being so late (4) and they weren’t messing around about being out on time. The cleaning crew was waiting outside the driveway for us to leave. It’s a minimum extra charge two Benjamin’s if you’re late (vrbo doesn’t allow adding rates to reviews). We got a notice that check in was available early but with having to take a ferry to the island it’s not something that can easily be taken advantage of, would have preferred an option to check out later. We also found a couple dirty coffee cups in the mix in the mini-me cabin, looked like maybe they made it back into the shuffle and cleaning didn’t notice.

Our family had an incredible stay at the Neil Bay Waterfront Retreat. The cabin was in a great location on the north part of the island, right on the water. At lowtide in the morning, we would stroll the waterfront with our kids, finding crabs, shells, and even a starfish. There was also a seal across the water on one of our vacation days. We really liked the location, in a quiet forested area, but only a short drive (~25 min) to downtown Friday Harbor. The main cabin was great - rustic, but containing pretty much everything we needed for.our 3-night stay, including a washer/dryer. The mini-me cabin was also fantastic and a great place for my aunt and uncle who stayed with us. Would highly recommend this Airbnb!!

There was no room at the inn at Roche Harbor for the wedding we were attending and am I GLAD because I discovered this charming cabin. My only regret is that I didn't originally reserve it for more than two nights. Very well maintained, clean, kitchen has everything you need, beautiful setting and location. You always worry that the reality won't match the pictures when you rent a house. In this case, the pictures are exactly what it's like!

Super cozy cabin! Everything was clean when we arrived, the bed's were comfy, plenty of cooking supplies, and our 8yr old daughter really enjoyed the upper loft!
The property is southern facing, but there are lots of trees which block most of the sun. This was fine for our stay, since it was hot, but I could see it being an issue for others. Not being able to use the fire pit was a bummer, but we brought our own propane fire pit, which sufficed.
Access to the beach was super nice to have, which is fun to explore at low tide. On the dock, the owners had a row boat placed upside down tied up with many ropes, which kind of limited our use of advertised dock. Wish they would've hauled it up on the shore for our stay.
Overall, a fun spot though, and we'd probably return to stay again.

We had a lovely stay. Having the Mini Mi cabin was perfect for our party - just a little extra separate space. The main cabin is cozy, so not much privacy there. The kitchen had a great assortment of cooking spices/oils & vinegar. We loved being on the water and seeing the change in the tides. We also did both the whale watching and kayaking which were also fantastic.

The Dahl home was charming. The photos we were sent before arriving were a bit deceiving in that the cabin with the kitchen is smaller than photographed with the wide angle lense. We made it work though. The kitchen was terrifically outfitted with kitchenware except there were no sponges or brushes to clean the dishes and there was no dishwasher. We loved sitting on the deck watching herons land in the trees. We were surprised that SJ Prop Management called to let us know that we forgot a pair of shoes after checkout. They were willing to send the shoes to us which was very nice. We enjoyed the family scrapbooks. The sunsets out at Afterglow beach were magical. We were sad to leave the cabins at the end of our vacation.

This stay was fascinating and meaningful beyond our expectations. The cabins (didn't realize there were two!) were cozy and neat, full of sunlight in the afternoons. The bay in front of the cabin offered constantly changing scenery as the tide went in and out. One morning, we spotted 6 harbor seals splashing in the bay. We were amazed at how well equipped and organized the kitchen was. Everything was thoughtfully labeled. The "Mini Me" cabin was perfect for my wife and I to have our own time and I would love to use it as a writer's retreat one day. The bookshelves held albums that told the history of the cabin and the owners. It made us really feel at home to know something about the place and how much it means to those to which it belongs. Definitely inspired thoughts of following suit building our own cabin in these beautiful islands.
