This unique home offers gated privacy yet has a one mile level walking circuit on paved roads where you may sip your morning coffee and watch iguana's cross your path. The villa is continually cooled by a slight gentle breeze which generally assures no biting insects.
Less than five minutes to town of Cruz Bay which offers excellent jazz at several locations on Saturday and Sunday including the famous Beach Bar - partial setting for my first book about St. John 'Keep Left.' Shopping and night life abound in Cruz Bay.

We had a wonderful 9 day stay at Sopra Mare. Mike, the owner was always there to answer any questions we had prior to our arrival. David, the villa manager, met as at the car rental. We followed David to the villa where he showed us how and where everything was. We have visited St. John many times, but always stayed on St Thomas. Dinner, salad and wine was provided for us on the first day of our arrival on St Thomas. The villa has everything you need to enjoy your stay in paradise. We didn’t do anything but hit a different beach every day. Grocery stores are close by. Be prepared for sticker shock!! Hopeful we will be able to return in the future. Thanks Mike for sharing your piece of paradise

The neighborhood is one of the more established and well kept neighborhoods. Minutes from the car ferry and Cruz Bay makes this property the ideal for all access to grocery stores, gym, beaches and night life on the town. This was definitely a beautiful well kept place with friendly people.

We enjoyed a week of decompression at Sopra Mare enjoying the views from the deck and the sand of the nearby beaches. The Sopra Mare had everything we needed to enjoy evenings at “home.” We’re just not into the eat-out scene. The Sopra Mare delivered.

The owner (Michael) and staff (Keri, Jared, Kevin) were outstanding in communication which made for a great experience. We understand why it's rented so often with the view and private pool. Short drive to town and groceries. We rented a car from Mr Pipers and they allowed to park there while we were in town. Otherwise, very expensive.
We had a couple of maintenance problems that were quickly handled. Otherwise, a 5 star stay.

Lovely Villa
Great property. We loved being able to open the doors and windows and let the warm breezes blow through. The kitchen was well provisioned and easy to work in. The villa is well laid out with multiple seating options depending on whether you want sun or shade. There were expansive ocean views and beautiful sunsets most nights. We'll be happy to stay there again.

Views from all patios were amazing. Enjoyed cocktails and coffee on all patios and lounging by the pool after the amazing beaches! Pool views were spectacular!

Everything was perfect, dinner in the fridge was a really nice touch, and allows you to get groceries the next day. Austin helping with luggage and getting to car rental was great. The View was amazing, from the boats going by to the birds flying below you, we could have stayed on the deck the entire time. By far the most convenient place we have stayed. Thanks for the extra effort. I highly reccomend this place.

Everything was perfect, dinner in the fridge was a really nice touch, and allows you to get groceries the next day. Austin helping with luggage and getting to car rental was great. This was my sixth rental on St Johns and by far the most luxurious property with a great location. The view was incredible and the ocean breeze was delightful. The property is well furnished to make your stay very comfortable to include upscale kitchen, pool, and plenty of beach chairs along with coolers. No question a return trip and another stay at Sopra Mare is on our list. Cant wait!

Great location well maintained with plenty of amenities
This was my sixth rental on St Johns and by far the most luxurious property with a great location. The view was incredible and the ocean breeze was delightful. The property is well furnished to make your stay very comfortable to include upscale kitchen, pool, and plenty of beach chairs along with coolers. No question a return trip and another stay at Sopra Mare is on our list. Cant wait!

Perfect house!
Sopra Mare was the perfect house to spend a week at. The house is beautiful and decorated perfectly. You will be stunned by the views, especially at sunset. We used the beach chairs and coolers everyday and returned from the beach to an inviting pool. The only thing I wish was different was if the doors had screens. It’s hard not to open them all to enjoy the ocean breeze but then pay for it at night when the bugs attack you.

The house was clean and well maintained. The friendly property manager met us at Cruz Bay and lead us to the property. The view is spectacular from the pool and the house. We enjoyed opening the sliding, accordion doors each morning to let the cool breeze flow through the house. The location is ideal, a 7 minute drive to Cruz Bay. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with throughout the process. We were very pleased with the whole experience and will definitely come back.

I can’t say enough about the owner of the property , He is accommodating and truly wants you to enjoy your stay.The house is perfect for four people. It is clean and the beds are comfortable. The pool is just the right size for enjoying when you’re not at the beach. The balconies off the front of the house Allow you to enjoy the beautiful view . I think my favorite part of the house are the front doors off of the living room and off of the master bedroom. They open up to give you a full open view of the ocean. My stay on St. John was relaxing and refreshing. The owner made it stress-free from start to finish. This 2019 trip is my sixth time visiting St. John. The island is up and running and beautiful. I’m ready to go back again and I just got home. Truly one of my favorite places to vacation. Also I don’t want to forget .... you arrive to dinner provided for you. We had garlic bread , salads and lasagnas and yes it was yummy! That is extremely helpful after a long day of traveling. I will be back 😉

Fantastic Villa in a great location!
Can't say enough about how great this Villa was. We were contacted in advance to let us know that someone would meet us and get us situated into the Villa. Mike the owner was excellent by communicating and coordinating all the details. The Villas was everything and more than we ever expected. You will not find a better view anywhere. We were also impressed in how well the island has recovered from Irma. We will be back. Can't get enough of that beautiful island and beaches...

Great location,
Convenient location,close to town. On Maria's bluff which is nice, with great view overlooking the ocean. Owner easy to work with. Owner known around town and well liked. Place in good shape even after Maria. Great north beaches are 15-20 min drive. Restaurants closer. Would stay again at either of owners two properties which are adjacent. Both with great ocean views. Hope to return soon!🙂

We Can't Wait to Go Back!
We love Sopra Mare! We stayed 7 nights in May 2018 and are already planning to return next year. Sopra Mare had us from the view from the pool. 180 degrees of sheer beauty. The Villa is private, easy to get to and convenient to all you might want to do on St. John. Meticulously cleaned and ready for your visit. The only sounds we heard were the waves crashing on the cliff below.
The property owner, Mulley, welcomed us on our arrival with a bottle of wine and food in the fridge. If you get the chance to engage Mulley in conversation, do it. He is a master storyteller!
If you book Sopra Mare, you will not be disappointed.

Wonderful vacation experience
We loved staying at Sopra Mare. Now, St.John USVI, is remote and isn't like staying at the Ritz. It is an active vacation destination. Don't go expecting your beach chair and umbrella set out every day. Go there to hike,Scuba, snorkel and get hot, sweaty and refreshed in the Caribbean Sea. We will would return to Sopra Mare, as it fit our family of 4 just fine. The Owner"Mulley" was very helpful and made sure we went with the best folks for island services. His home pool was awesome the one afternoon we stayed home.

May 2017 - A Room With a View & then some...
There's a lot to be said for an ocean front villa up high on a cliff! In short, it's worth it. You can enjoy the ocean, outdoors and pool by just taking a step out of your door. If you've only stayed in hotels, you really need to try the villa experience in St. John as you won't be disappointed. The privacy of your own pool is simply fantastic. One Huge feature about this villa which has not been emphasized in the other reviews is the patio cover which provides complete shade for a large portion of the patio. I already have one scar from a skin cancer spot so I've learned the hard way to really value the shade. At Sopra Mare, you can enjoy the outdoors & protect your skin. While on the patio, turn on the ceiling fan and take the standing fan from the living room out on the patio then turn it on high aimed right at you and ahhhh, nice & cool & mosquitoes are blown away (if not, bug spray works amazingly well). Be sure to put the fan back in the house due to rain showers. WiFi works very well, and the villa is well stocked & decorated as the other reviews state. If asked what makes Sopra Mare different? I'd say that Sopra Mare is loved. This place is deeply loved by its owner, & he loves the whole island as well. It's not just a room or place to crash at night, instead it's something quite special. Away from the villa, we enjoyed a nice dinner at Morgan's Mango and delicious burgers at Dog House Pub. Sailing is awesome here so go out on a boat. If you can sail yourself, rent a sailboat at Cinnamon Bay. My last tip, I love to read, but do not read a book here as it is way too pretty to have your eyes stuck to a white page. Instead, download an audiobook & listen to the story while your eyes take in the beauty all around you. It's so beautiful that it simply doesn't look real.

Great Place To Stay
We have been coming to St. John at least once a year for the past twenty years and have stayed at many different villas. I can say, without a doubt, that Sopra Mare is the best one we've stayed at. It is situated on a cliff looking out over the Caribbean Sea. Upon walking in the villa the view is so spectacular it looks like the view from a cruise ship! We found the villa very well appointed as it is decorated thoughtfully and creatively. The artwork on the walls is very pleasant and the furniture is comfortable. I am a cook, (unfortunately for St. John this means we don't spend a lot of money at the local restaurants), so I was delighted to find sharp knives, good pots and pans and the utensils I need to create any meal! The beds are clean and comfortable as are bathrooms. All of these qualities are unique to Sopra Mare.....the other villas we have stayed at seem to provide minimal inexpensive amenities for lounging and cooking. It was a pleasure to leave the beautiful St. John beaches to go home to the beautiful Sopra Mare. Mulley is a pleasure to work with and his staff all very professional and efficient! I would recommend this villa to anyone and everyone!

Fantastic Spot
My family (two adults and two teenage girls) really enjoyed out time at Sopra Mare. The view is spectacular, the location is ideal (close enough to town to be convenient but distant enough to be well out of the bustle) and the home is very well appointed with everything you could need. Finally Mike (and his team) were fantastic to deal with - very proactive, clear, helpful and responsive around all communications. We would happily stay here again next time we're back on St John!

Paradise
Sopra Mare is one of the best Villa's we have rented in St. John. The location in Chocolate Hole makes it very convenient to head to town for dinner and gather all the groceries you need for your stay. The villa itself is beautiful with gorgeous water views and very quiet!! We enjoyed the pool every day after our beach adventures and relaxed with a drink at night. All the amenities we needed for a spectacular vacation were already there for us. We will definitely come back to this gem.

Beautiful panoramic views, close in location, all you need for a beautiful vacation. Mike is a pleasure to deal with and his property manager, Jared, I'd right there if you need him. If you don't rent a car, it's easy to get taxis to take you around, especially at night after partying in Cruz Bay. It's a little piece of heaven perched on that hillside. We especially enjoyed the pool after a day of "beaching". Nice and relaxing...that's what we want!

A Little Piece of Heaven!!
Sopra Mare is a beautiful waterfront villa, perched on a cliff overlooking the sea. The views from living room, bedroom, decks and patio are magnificent. On a clear day you can see St. Croix. The house was very comfortable and included every amenity we needed - beach chairs, rafts, snorkeling equipment, etc. We spent most days on the fabulous beaches at Maho or Francis, lunch at Skinny Legs and then chilling out by the pool with a Virgin Island IPA in the afternoon. Then dinners at one of the many great restaurants in Cruz Bay, a 5 minute ride away (Extra Virgin Bistro and LaTapa are our favorites, along with ZoZos out at Caneel Bay). We've been coming to St. John for over 20 years (obviously we love it) but this was our first time renting a house. Mulley made it very easy. He was great to deal with, and even had a chicken dinner and bottle of wine in the frig for our first night after the long trip down. A great place to chill out and relax with a good book. We would definitely go back.

Fabulous!
The pictures do not do this place justice.............you just have to see it for yourself! Totally laid back and relaxing.............quiet are but close to town. No traffic........great for morning walks followed by a dip in the pool! St John is fantastic! If you're not lying on a beach then your either driving through the jungle (VERY FUN) or at a bar. Definitely coming back here. Check out Bordo Mare....its even better!

This is a fabulous house with breathtaking views and complete with every amenity you would ever wish for. Hard to believe but the pictures do not do it justice. The house is furnished so comfortably and so well appointed that you feel like you are visiting a home, not a rental space. The gourmet kitchen and stunning sunsets compelled us to cook at home many nights and enjoy the peace and beauty serenaded by the tree frog community. We loved the fold away doors in the living and master that allow you to be right on the ocean! What a great feature!! We enjoyed the pool and spacious decks so much that we had to force ourselves to go to a beach or two. (lovely by the way). This is a beautiful, tranquil relaxing space and easy to see why guests are sad to leave and eager to return. In addition, the management company was very helpful with all the information we needed prior to arrival and during our stay. Staying here was truly the best experience!

The amazing ocean front doors in the bedroom had to remain closed at the suggestion of the villa company due to bugs because there were no screens. This was also the case for the downstairs doors which meant no through draft to cool the ground floor.The pool was not at all private,the brick wall to the side of the pool was not high enough and passing vehicles could look right down into the pool and also the dining area. On 2 occasion whilst relaxing on a float motorists spoke to me as the vehicle window was just above the wall and the slope of the road and vehicle speed allowed direct vision. The master bedroom A/C was a nightmare and would only work if a body remained in the room. Overall very hot downstairs and lacking in privacy. I would not recommend this villa to a friend or family member.

Our entire family enjoyed our trip to St. John and stay at Sopra Mare.The views were absolutely beautiful and the location was perfect.We loved our morning coffee time on the deck overlooking the
Caribbean ocean! The villa was tucked away in privacy but we also appreciated how close it was to the downtown area. We also enjoyed our morning runs on the quiet road the Villa was on, it was a great workout to the Westin and back. Beautiful home and awesome family trip. We will be back someday!!

The pictures did not do Sopra Mare justice. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of Sopra Mare, including the very helpful Viva Villa agent. From our email exchanges over the year (with owner and rental agency), we always felt very confident that we were making the right choice. Then when we saw the villa, we knew all of our research had paid off. The kitchen looks so much better in person and the views are breathtaking. The interior design of the house is exquisite, down to every detail (we all loved the boat chandelier at night--such a nice touch). The kids loved the pool, including the light show at night. The house was fully equipped for all your needs (beach stuff, cooler, bags, towels, toys) so be sure to pack light. The Kenny Chesney CDs (not yours to keep) were a bonus to make us all feel the full STJ experience! We absolutely will be back--not soon enough!

We have been to St John five times and stayed at Sopra Mare the last two years. We are planning to stay at Sopra Mare for a third time next year....Need I say more? The villa is private, beautiful and ultra-clean. Once, you see the amazing 180 degree view from the two decks, you will know that you will never stay in another location. The owner is a joy to work with and the housekeeper and property manager are great. I have no complaints except that I wish that I could stay longer! Thanks for everything.

We stayed at Sopra Mare for 7 days in Janaury 2011. The home is beautiful. We enjoy everything about the house. I would return next week for I could. I think it is a great place for couples. The island is beautiful. Try to explore the whole island and beaches. The most beautiful beaches we have ever seen. There is so much to do that 7 days was not enough, so we are planning a return trip. If you want a great location, great views and great house rent Sopra Mare. First class all the way.

We returned to St John for a 7 day stay and were thoroughly pleased with our Villa, Sopra Mare. While not far from town, it’s perched atop a quiet hillside that offered private balcony, patio, pool and master suite views of each island sunrise and sunset. Whether watching the passing power / sail boats or star gazing, the view was spectacular. While some promotional listings exaggerate the accommodations; this one accurately reflected the expansive overlook views and the well-designed layout of the villa. One of the outstanding features was the fold-away floor to ceiling glass doors in the master suite and living room which offered a true open-air experience taking advantage of the villa’s vantage point. Sopra Mare came fully equipped with all kitchen amenities, propane outdoor grill, beach chairs, coolers and beach towels. The villa owner and management company were easy to work with and very accommodating. The “briefing materials” left with us by the management staff were thorough and complete in describing the amenities of the property as well as having current restaurant menus and convenient entertainment opportunities. We’d highly recommend staying at Sopra Mare.
