This historical Sullivan's beach house is simply WONDERFUL! We had a family reunion with young and old and the house was PERFECT! It is right across from the beach path, bike ride to the town and filled with amenities like washer/dryer, complete kitchen, beach chairs and it is absolutely adorable to boot! Our kids loved putting their kids to bed and then enjoying the rooftop deck!! The host is also fabulous! She is quick to respond, answers all your questions and accommodates specific requests when possible. We had friends visit and they can't wait to use this very special home as well! We couldn't have asked for more!!!! (I would also add that it would be charming for a romantic get-away for a couple too!! :))

As always a great trip and great place

Cannot say enough good things about this place.

From the moment we pulled in our stay was magical-like a jasmine scented dream that you don’t want to wake up from-the screened in porch was a spacious and cool gathering place, but the rooftop deck with its quirky staircase took it all to another dimension ~this felt like an old family home, rich with personality and history rather than a sterile rental. The boardwalk to the beach was accessible and delightful. Maggie was a pleasure to communicate with . We four old friends give the whole experience it five stars and eight thumbs up!
1.0
Great beach access and local exploration. The property itself is dreadful!
The rental is accessible by two long, steep stairs on either side of the house and a narrow, winding stair from second floor to rooftop. The railing for the main stairs is partly overgrown with vines, making it unusable for safety.
Inside, dust abounded, floors dirty, table tops (glass and wood) dirty. Debris and miscellany found under furniture. A bedroom drawer contained a half-eaten food item covered with flies. The worn cushions and upholstery in the living room and patio provide no comfort.
No laundry room was ever found.
The master bath has been updated; the guest bath is deplorable. The sink is mounted in what may be original carpentry of this building. The shelves are rudimentary. Doors are secured by hooks and eyes. Woodwork heavily repainted and needs cleaning. Wallpaper patched with painters’ tape and packing tape. The “shower” here is disgraceful. The “plumbing” is mounted on the walls. If there is hot water, it was not discovered. The corners of the shower were heavy in mildew/mold.
Many internal doors do not close properly and/or cannot be secured.
The dishwasher has to be moved and hooked up to the sink faucet with each use. Peeling paint layers are visible throughout. Of the 3 or 4 clocks in the unit, none worked.
WE REQUEST A REFUND OF THE $232 "SERVICE FEE". Why does VRBO handle this property?

This continues to be a very special place, which I think really exemplifies the peaceful charm and historical nature of Sullivans Island. My second time staying! Excellent location and excellent communication with the property manager.

Short walk to the beach where there is a gully ideal for children’s swimming.

Great location and the property is exactly as described. How to be back again next year.

This home is older with its age showing in a number of places. But it is also maintained with some significant upgrades. The front porch was wonderful with well protected rails/screens that allowed our 4 year old grandniece to play safely. Above the porch was a wonderful roof top room reached with very narrow winding stairs - more narrow than in the write up. But we all made it - some easier than others. The view of the ocean from the top was hidden by trees but was a nice effect, as one a sense of being at the top of the forest.
The master bedroom included an updated bath and shower. The other 3 bedrooms were, shall we say, historic. The shared bathroom had three doors which had to be secured using hooks and eyelets when using. That system could use a little updating in that the doors didn't fit tight or were hard to secure. Not a big problem, but frustrating for some guests.
The kitchen had been updated as well. Everything we needed was there and handy. To use the dish washer, one had to secure it to the sink faucet so we just washed everything by hand.
The main living space was older but a comfortable place for evening story-telling. An large historic buffet near the family table did make moving 8 people around a bit of a challenge. Good Wifi.
All the entrance steps (front and back) were solid and safe.
The beach was nearby and an excellent beach it is. Even during Memorial Day Weekend, it was busy but not crowded.
Overall, a good value for us! 5 stars!

Classic historic island house (upper part of a duplex) - weathered and charactered on the outside, warm and inviting inside. Well stocked with everything we needed. There were some minor repairs needed but nothing that impacted our enjoyment of the house. We loved the screen porch. Easy access to one of the best dog walking beaches anywhere. Interesting walkable neighborhood. We very much enjoyed our stay.

The place looks great in the photos, but the historical detail and charm are even better in person. Super comfortable, tons of attention to detail. A loved house with a lot of character, if you go for bland and sterile, look on, this place would be wasted on you, I will definitely be back ❤️

A wonderful stay. 1 1/2 blocks from the beach. This is the spot to kiteboard in the region. friendly and responsive

The property is over 100 years old. We knew that. What we were shocked with was the condition of the place. It is desperately in need of repair.
The location is wonderful. We had lots of fun with family but the house was dreadful. Rusted pipes; much needed paint; holes in screens that allowed squirrels to get in.
Beds were comfortable and the screened in porch the saving grace of the place. Furniture is very old and desperately in need of re-stuffing. Uncomfortable and very difficult to get in and out of especially for the elderly. The TV did not work but was replaced with a new one. Much appreciated.

Great location. Clean, interesting home. When we first arrived we were unsure we’d made a good choice. However, we had a wonderful time and will likely return.

Great location, love the view from the top porch, love the big screened in porch, AC excellent in hot & humid weather. Excellent communication with property owners.
One recommendation - each shower needs a grab bar plus a hand held sprayer added to the shower heads. It was not easy to bath a 3 YO with the existing high placed shower heads.

Wonderful House on Sullivan's Island!
The property is perfectly located near the beach and only a few blocks from the restaurants and shops on the island. Perfect 4BR 2 bath house with a very warm and cozy feel. The owner is a delight to communicate with and the overall experience was wonderful and enjoyable.

Wonderful little place right off the beach
It's a lovely little home with four beds, two baths (the listing is showing 4/4 in some places). It's a single floor location accessible by stairs on the side of the building. There's a tight circular staircase that leads to a little hang out area on the roof, which is pretty nice. These stairs are on the spacious porch, which we spent most of our time on, enjoying the cool breezes. It was slightly rainy our trip, but spending the rain delays on the porch was an absolute delight.
Master bath is great, the 2nd bath is a little small, but servicable. Kitchen was small but has everything we needed.
Hosts are very nice and quick to answer inquiries. We wanted to rent a golf cart for the week and had questions about recharging. Got an answer almost immediately through the vrbo messaging system.
Really happy with the overall experience. Already thinking about plans for next year, if they will have us back :)

Perfect place for our family celebration!
My husband and I,our three grown boys and mother in law gathered for a week for sons college graduation. The proximity to beach (and Charleston) was wonderful so we didn’t have to drive and could go back and forth for munchies - the comfy and eclectic setting made us feel right at home. The roof deck was great for yoga and happy hour(but wear shoes!). We had a wonderful stay!

A relaxing getaway
We had a wonderful stay at Rachel's family home. You don't find many homes on Sullivan's these days that bring back such wonderful memories of growing up at the beach - cypress walls, big screened porch, rooftop deck, fragrant blooming jasmine, etc. The location was so convenient to the beach access across the street and there was plenty of parking, including for our boat trailer. Rachel was a wonderful hostess and we enjoyed speaking with her about our stay and her home. There was lots of cookware for meals we enjoyed with our C of C son and friends who often joined us for a home cooked meal. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed open windows with great breezes the entire time we were there.

Lovely and unique home away from the crowds
The charm of this place is its authenticity. It is real and lived-in, unlike so many made-to-order short term rentals that feel more like an IKEA showroom than a home. Rachel is lovely and a joy to communicate with. My family and I will remember this stay fondly, and if we’re ever back in Charleston, we won’t be looking anywhere else to stay.

Old fashioned beach vacation
We had a lovely time on our trip. The beach was a short walk across the street, the neighborhood was peaceful and the house was comfortable, clean and full of old fashioned charm. The home is older and lived in, but good for a family beach vacation with a dog. Our hostess was very available and helpful throughout the process and everything we needed was provided for in the house.

Sullivans Island Beach House
Delightful landlady. Great location and proximity to the beach. This is an old house and a bit quirky but we liked it. The master bedroom and bathroom are updated and nice. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there. The pictures are accurate on the VRBO site.

Rachel is charming and a fabulous host! The location is amazing and the house is a treat from a bygone era! We enjoyed it immensely.

Peaceful.
The location of this property was perfect for our stay. We enjoyed walks on the beach twice a day. The owner was very intensive and sweet to chat with.

Fabulous!
This home is Old Sullivan Island at its very best! Top deck is wonderful, cool breeze, cozy chairs and even a small ocean view over the surrounding gorgeous live oaks. Walk to beach is short & is a very nice beach. Much quieter neighborhood than those on the more southern end of the island. Quick access to Charleston, Mt. Pleasant and IOP. We look forward to our next stay!!!

Comfortable and great character
Great location with such a quick walk to the beautiful beach. Home is full of character, and old, and charming, as described. The master bed and bath are newish but the rest of the home has had some years. My imagination wonders what stories the walls hold. Not fancy, and quite comfortable. Would definitely return.

Sullivans island
The owner was very approachable and helpful when we asked questions. The home is very close to 2 beach accesses which both were a very easy walk. The home was very dog friendly and so was the island and the beaches. Due to the overgrowth of the trees could not see the beach from the upper balcony, but the home was very comfortable. the master bath and bedroom have recently been remodeled and since if was just the two of us that is where we stayed.

Enjoyed our visit
The location is excellent & a short walk to the beach as advertised. We loved our conversations with Mrs. Rachel who called several times to check on our stay. She graciously offered an extra night because we had a couple of rainy days, which was amazing. We really enjoyed our visit to this old historic house. The outside needs some landscaping maintenance to clear away overgrown vegetation. The inside of the house is in need of deep cleaning.

Very nice spot and the owner is a gem.
Very nice time. Lots of construction on the house while we were there that detracted from the experience, but we're glad to have found the property and Rachel. Not many places on Sullivan's Island for dogs and we're very grateful!

Great stay
We had a great stay at Rachel's house. The location is fabulous, just a short walk to the beach. The house, furnishings etc. are older, but everything was clean and in working order. It has sort of a vintage feel, which was fine with us. Rachel is great about communicating and everything went well (except for a couple days of rain, that is!).

Homey, with a perfect location
Full of family pictures - not at all like stying in a sterile hotel environment. This was a comfortable, well-worn family home. The house was perfect for a family of five, plus our dog. Easy to settle into, everything we needed. It was ideally situated, just a few steps from the beach, and a short walk from "downtown" Sullivan's Island. We had a wonderful time. As an added bonus, Rachel, the property owner, is just a lovely woman. I enjoyed our every correspondence. She was incredibly helpful, too, and answered all of my questions promptly and completely. Would definitely stay again.

As close to the beach as you can get without being on the beach
Previous reviews are very accurate. Hostess was a delight to work with. This house is as close to the beach as you can get without actually being beach front property.

Great beach house
Five adult cousins gathered to meet a new one year old family member who lives in Mount Pleasant. The house was convenient for visiting - AND for walks on the beach.
The house offered a comfy cozy place to relax. The front screened porch was wonderful. We began and ended each day there.
I was able to bring my dog along on the trip - for his first ocean experience. He is a nervous little dog, but really seemed to relax in the house - as we all did.
If you book this house, and Rachel tells you that you don’t need to bring anything - believe her! There were kitchen basics - spices, coffee filters, foil, dishwashing detergent...as well as every kind of kitchen gadget you can imagine.
Rachel was a fabulous host. It felt as if she was a long lost friend right from the very beginning.
We enjoyed our stay so much - we can’t wait to go back! I find myself missing the smell of jasmine - from the bushes surrounding the property.
Hopefully we can return before too long.

Ideal location
Quiet and incredibly close to the beach, this home on Sullivan’s island was the perfect spring escape for our family of 5 (and dog). We will be delighted to return, if Ms. Rachel will have us!
