About this house rental
Enjoy all seasons in this lovely and oh-so-comfy home in rural Litchfield County. The Barn on Looking Glass Hill has a swimming pool, light and airy master suite, fireplace and space on six acres. The property is a restored barn and milking parlor. The original restoration was done in 1980. It underwent a most thoughtful style overhaul in 2016, with the addition of wide plank floors throughout, bead-boarding, board and batten, and lighting throughout from Remains Lighting. This attention to detail is evident in the landscaping. Native plantings and a updated pool area make this home special.
The property is near the crest of a hill, facing south with sun all day long. Looking Glass Hill is a less-travelled road, close to 202 and 5 minutes from the center of Bantam (with Arethusa, Bantam Market, antiques, a farmer's market, Bantam Lake). Cars rarely drive by and the back of the property is very private.
The house is fully insulated for year-round use and has baseboard heating throughout. Supplemental heat can provided by the living room fireplace.
The property is available year-round. We generally close the pool at the end of September. Please enquire if you have any questions regarding pool use around May or October (depending on the weather it may be possible to use. please note that HEATING COSTS FOR THE POOL ARE EXTRA).
GUESTS STAYING LONGER THAN SIX NIGHTS PAY FOR UTILITIES (HEATING PROPANE, ELECTRIC, CABLE and SNOW REMOVAL)

We had 10 wonderful days in Litchfield county. Scenic property and rural area. The house is a converted barn. No central air conditioning, but the bedrooms and living spaces have portable air conditioners. The house is spacious and comfortable. The pool was a great asset due to the extreme heat during our stay There were many hiking trails to explore with our dog, and lots of restaurants to choose from for our meals.
The owner was very pleasant and the property manager responded quickly when we contacted him.

From the moment we stepped in, absolutely fell in love with the house. The beautiful furnishings and coziness of the home are unmatched. We absolutely loved the quiet of the neighborhood as well. Surrounding area is delightful! We got ice cream at the cutest place in town (strawberry was amazing) and went on a wonderful hike near the pond. Overall, an absolutely wonderful last minute trip and Michael was amazing with communication and instructions! We will definitely be back!

The pool is the highlight - beautiful and serene. I can definitely recommend this home as a solid place for a low-key family vacation!

There is nothing negative I can say about this property. We spend a weekend in mid January. It was the coldest weekend we had this winter. The house was so costly with the open fire place. It was so beautiful and the home is decorated with such taste & elegance. Thank you Michael I do plan to return in the summer

Relaxing winter getaway
Our family spent two nights enjoying this house. It was charming and warm and we enjoyed the calm environment and proximity to skiing and delicious ice cream at arethusa dairy! Communication was great and we would likely return.

Cosy Home
We really enjoyed staying at Michael's. It has such interesting details in its appointments: paintings and prints on the walls and the decoration in general. There are also great views out the windows. Michael responded very quickly to any questions and was a great host. The place was perfect for us as we visited family in Washington for Christmas.

Wonderful week stay
We had a family trip to Litchfield County and Micahel's propertu was wonderful. The grounds were gorgeous: the pool area is beautiful; the shaded patio area was great for outdoor dining, even a fire pit for making s'mores! The house itself was spacious, comfortable and very well appointed. The kitchen had everything we needed, bedroom very comfortable, and plenty of living spaces to spread out. Michael, the owner, was readily available and made everything easy. We had a flawless stay.

Charming Converted Barn
Super cozy barn, beautifully converted tastefully decorated. Owner was extremely helpful and responsive and provides a fantastic guide to the area. The house is well equipped — kitchen, games, tech. Great for a family — all 3 bedrooms have their own bath. Would love to return in the summer when we could enjoy the beautiful setting and pool.

Chic Country Home
From the moment you arrive at this property, you will know this home is loved. Enormous hydrangeas billow over boxwoods that greet you as you approach the dairy barn turned country house; transformed from its origins whilst retaining its charms. All rooms have been decorated in upscale yet comfortable finishes and furnishings. Cozy blankets and pillows abound in both common areas. The eclectic art collection truly raises the bar. The bedrooms and baths are well stocked with beautiful linens and toiletries. The grounds have lovely plantings and the pool area is so relaxing. and the perfect spot to swim or enjoy drinks at the end of the day. Michael was a pleasure, making sure our every need and whim was anticipated. His recommendations for exploring the area were perfect. I concur with other reviewers the beauty of this home is even greater than photos can convey.

What a wonderful getaway. In the middle of no where but close to everything. Ditto on previous reviews giving the host 5 stars.

A warm and cozy "home" away from home
To say that our stay was wonderful is actually an understatement! This home is so warm and cozy with just the right amount of elegance. We spent a very happy and long Thanksgiving weekend in November - our family (children and sweet fuzzy dog included) felt right at home in the lovely home, with comfortable bedrooms meant to be lazy in, and Fall-spectacular surroundings. In addition, Michael and Stacey were very accommodating, always available to answer questions, and attentive to details. I would highly recommend this beautiful home for your next foray away from home in Litchfield County.

Stacey and Michael's house is truly wonderful.
Our stay was lovely as Stacey and Michael's house as it is like a warm embrace.
Since it is their "home" it is thoughtfully decorated and comfortable. We had the fireplace going every night, as we had a fall chill in the air, and Michael had it set and ready for us to use with plenty of fire wood on hand.
We definitely will be back because the house sits on a great piece of land with the forest behind and the neighborhood is really quiet.
Pack your bags and book this property because it will not disappoint!

polished New Yorkers create a perfect country retreat.
At the risk of creating competition for scheduling my future visits to this lovely property, I must say that the property is stunning, the decor is super comfy, eclectic, and chic. All the views are beautiful, especially looking at the changing times of day from the master bedroom. The view of the pool is also gorgeous, but it was too chilly for us to use. I sadly only stayed for two nights, and hated to leave. The owner was totally accommodating, helpful, and eager to make the stay as easy and comfortable as possible, even recommending nearby restaurants. We loved it, and will certainly go back.
