About this apartment rental
LaLa was my mother. With love and devotion, I have furnished these triplex apartments with her things or items she gave me. There are a few of my father’s aviation things as well. He was a pilot for Braniff Int’l, Repubic Airways, Kitty Hawk & retired as a Cpt from Southwest. This apartment & triplex hold a lot of memories.
We welcome all. Our goal is to create a space that makes you feel comfortable and is a home away from home. 1000 sqft apartment with traditional and Christian theme decor with just a bit of Asian influence. Feels cozy and warm. Perfect as a corporate, short term rental or for visitors touring and needing a base in the Independence/Kansas City area. Arrowhead and Kaufman are nearby. Downtown and KCI are an easy commute.
Keyless entry. You will receive your code after your booking is confirmed.
Keurig provided along with K-Cup coffee and tea to get you started. If you prefer several cups of coffee each morning, there is also a Cuisinart Grinder/Brew Coffee Maker with thermal carafe in pantry. Disposable to-go cups are provided for that last morning so you can have your coffee to go and not have to take/liberate a ceramic cup.
Kitchen will exceed most expectations. Appliances are all new Whirlpool Stainless Steel. Dishwasher has stainless interior with noise level under 50db. Freezer/refrigerator is counter depth with automatic ice maker and exterior door service center, providing filtered water/ice. Additionally, Brita Stream water pitcher provided in the fridge. Please do not reset the Brita electronic filter counter; just use and refill from tap. Microwave and range oven have convection capabilities and more features than can be listed. Easy clean glass cooktop. Electric controls can be programmed for Spanish/French in addition to default English. Do not use self-clean oven feature. Manufacturer recommends using that feature sparingly. Counter tops are granite, travertine backsplash, composite granite sink with stainless Moen touchless faucet. Counter top Cuisinart Toaster Oven. Rice Cooker/Turbo Pressure Cooker along with additional kitchen appliances. Eat in kitchen in addition to formal dining area. Dining area with china cabinet, table cloth or place mats, cloth napkins for special eat in meals.

Bedrooms are furnished traditionally with Ralph Lauren bedding. Master bedroom has designer Bob Timberlake queen bed and night tables that belonged to my mother. Master bedroom also has ceiling fan. Each room has it’s own coordinating towels. Hampers are in each closet. Next to each bed is a power strip/surge protector with USB for additional outlets and charging. Shared washer/dryer located one flight of steps to ground level of building.
One and a half bath consisting of one tub/shower, two toilets, two separate vanities. One blow dryer provided along with Neutrogena Body Wash and L’Oreal Sulfate Free Shampoo/Conditioner for your use while you are our guest, please do not pack out. For monthly guests the toiletries/paper goods/consumables are only provided initially.
Shaded gazebo and bistro table along with Char-Broil 2 burner propane BBQ grill in back yard. After using grill please ensure propane is off, use wire brush to clean grill and once cooled replace cover. In season there are lots of flowers along with strawberries, peaches and mint for you pick and use. Garden has 8ft retaining wall with no guard rail. The garden is not a play area and children must be supervised at all times. Fortunately, McCoy park is just down the street. No cigarette smoking on property, I do not wish to pick up any butts. Even though it is not legal in our state, we are 420 friendly, just not inside.
One designated covered parking spot under carport on South (left side). Carport is accessed via alley off Farmer St. Space is limited so trucks, large SUVs and other large vehicles will have to park on street. Tennis court, just walk North on sidewalk and past 3 homes. Beyond that there is McCoy Park with a fun summer water feature for the young at heart and horse shoe pits. Independence Square is walking distance, but more than likely you will drive and there is free and abundant close in parking for the many restaurants, shops and movie theatre. Look up ‘Truman Heritage District’ for all the things to do in our neighborhood.
The McClains are a local family that have invested over $25 million in Independence and on the Square. They have made our little corner of the world a delightful place to have for shopping and a treat at Yogurtini or Clinton’s Soda Fountain, coffee at Mainstreet Coffee House, along with pizza from Square Pizza, fine Italian at Cafe Verona, Continental at Ophelia’s, Mexican at El Pico, traditional American at Courthouse Exchange and simply great gourmet dogs at UpDog. One of the largest undertakings of the McClains was to bring back Polly’s Pop, a favorite locally made vintage soda with real cane sugar. There are 9 flavors made and bottled right here on the Independence Square. My father, the Captain, would’ve been in his eighties, was born and raised in Independence. He has delicious memories of swigging a Polly’s Pop. The McClains also brought back the bowling alley, Diamond Bowl, it is a bright place where you may have a beer and enjoy more than just bowling. Movies on the big screen at the Phoenix Theatre. In the summer, there is a beer garden at Courthouse Exchange with live music on the weekends. Google to find a schedule for square events, to include music, art, dog days, festivals, farmer’s market, etc.
In Independence history abounds everywhere and especially here at the center of Independence. Jackson County Jail and Marshal’s House (1859); Harry and Bess Truman’s home; Truman Presidential Library; National Frontier Trails Museum devoted to the 3 great western routes: the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails. Independence was the “jumping off” point for all 3 trails. There is so much more for anyone interested in the Mormon and Latter Day Saints history. My family has roots as local Latter Day Saints, we’re a part of one of the groups that never went to Salt Lake.
Outside photos are from Spring/Summer. Winter here can be a little grey. If you book before the spring, things here are just not near as bright.

St. Lala's is a garden paradise right in the heart of Independence and the Truman Historic District. I was treated to delicious muffins upon arrival here and welcomed to a cute and beautifully furnished two-bedroom apartment with all the charm one could hope for on a visit or, in my case, an extended stay in Independence. The fridge even came with samplings of a local brewery, a bottle of a creamy milk from a local dairy, and flavors of Polly's Pop, a local soda favorite. On the property you are surrounded by a beautiful garden of herbs and plants that you can relax in with a book and/or a beer. Whether you want to walk to the square to shop and dine, stroll around the neighborhood of historic houses like President Truman, or drive anywhere in Independence and Kansas City, this place is at the heart of it all and is a homely place to come back to at the end of a fun-filled day. What a blessing it was to find this lovely place to stay. I would highly recommend St. Lala's to family and friends looking for the best place to stay in Independence.

Wonderful Stay at Saint LaLa
I had a reservation issue with a local hotel, and Saint LaLa was able to accommodate us on short notice. The unit was clean and spacious, and communication with Jacquie was great! The check in process was a breeze - the unit uses keyless entry and the code was sent to us ahead of our stay. We didn't spend a lot of time in the unit, but we were able to relax when we were there. PS: The homemade brownies were delicious (although I only had time to eat one of them), it was a nice added touch! We would stay here again!

Jacquie was a great host and went above and beyond to make sure that we knew we could get our college team football game on TV on Sat so we could watch it. Her property was perfectly located for our weekend away and a nice retreat for the 2 couples. Was exactly as described. Will definitely try to stay here again next year when we come down for a Chiefs game.

Our property contact, Jacquie, was absolutely wonderful. She was very thoughtful in giving us everything we needed to know about the location, parking, even calling to let us know of a storm that was moving in. She even printed menus of nearby restaurants.
The place was extremely clean and stocked with all the essentials, it was like being at a hotel but with better products! She even baked us brownies for our arrival! Not only did she meet our expectations but exceeded them.
Next time I am in Kansas City, I will be booking at Saint LaLa.

We spend three nights at Saint LaLa, and it was perfect for us. The house looks exactly like the pictures and the neighborhood is lovely. We enjoyed using the grill and gazebo in the backyard. The kitchen is beautiful and includes plenty of cooking essentials (plates, pots and pans, seasonings, etc.), so we were able to cook for ourselves during our stay. I loved this house and hope to stay there again soon!

Perfect for our needs
My husband and our two sons stayed here recently while we were there to watch a Royals’s game. The location was perfect! Jacquie has truly thought of everything. The apartment was very clean and very thoughtfully furnished. We were greeted with fresh baked brownies! The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals for the weekend. It appears everything has recently been updated and is very nice. Thank you for a great stay.

Wonderful House
Our stay was great. Jacquie truly had everything you could need in the house and ready for you. It truly had the comforts of home far more than any other property we have stayed at before. There is also a huge park just a few blocks away with a splash pad and three play grounds. Great for our son. Will certainly recommend for anyone needing to stay in the Independence area. Thank you!

Flawless!
We had an exceedingly comfortable stay at St LaLa. Clean and functional, with lots of extra towels and thoughtful amenities including reserved covered parking, Mrs Meyers handsoap, 2 hairdryers, body lotion, charging strips etc. just like at home! Kitchen was fully outfitted and stocked for preparing any manner of meals. Jacquie also provided 3 kinds of coffee, soda pop, lots of teas, hot cocoa and brownies. She was also available to provide prompt replies and assistance as needed. A real gem of a place that’s run by a conscientious thoughtful person. We are already planning a return trip in 2020 and would not stay anywhere else!

A wonderful surprise
I booked this condo strictly due to it’s location close to the conference I was attending. But was so surprised to find that the condo was a great fit for me. My friend and I were greeted with fresh made brownies! Jacquie also left an abundance of information on local restaurants. We enjoyed the newly planted flowers in the window boxes. Best of all was the new shower and the super comfortable beds. Jacquie was a very responsive host and we hope to stay here in the future!

Saint LaLa a very comfortable vacation rental
The furnishings in this unit were excellent, and it was generously provisioned with all the necessities to get settled in and make the stay enjoyable. Jacquie went out of her way to provide a lot of "extras" that showed a great deal of thoughtfulness for her guests and was always just a phone call (or text message) away in case of problems. We heartily recommend Saint LaLa. It is an excellent place to stay while visiting the Kansas City area.

Perfectly situated, ultra clean and expertly appointed with all the little things one needs
If we ever pass through Independence again we will DEFINITELY stay at Saint LaLa!
We can start with the cleanliness of the two-bedroom apartment, we could continue by mentioning the all of the different coffees and treats that the owner had out for us...fresh brownies, locally brewed soda pops, she even had two USB charger cables plugged into the bedroom's power strip ready for our use.
The owner was in perfect contact with us, before our stay as well as during our stay (because I was too blind to see the WiFi password).
You can walk to the Truman museum (and stop off at a little gazebo half-way to see/read six historical plaques about Independence since the gazebo overlooks the old trading square area. You can also walk to Harry & Bess Truman's home. You can also walk into town for dinner...its all that close.
For breakfast, we recommend the Englewood Cafe, a little dinner with a history.
For dinner, we would highly recommend Cafe Verona (in the outside patio) as well as Ophelias. The Frontier Trails museum (and the accompanying Train Depot) are very informational ways to spend a couple of hours. Didn't have the time to visit the Mormon temple.
My wife and I can absolutely recommend staying at Saint LaLa's.
