Book your fall or winter stay today, or plan for the Spring and Summer now!
Fall Activities:
We recommend driving around Old Mission Peninsula, Interlochen area, Benzie County, The Leelanau Peninsula, and Elk Lake/Torch Lake areas. Typically, peak color season in these areas is typically mid-October, but seasonal temperatures may impact the exact timing (above average temps will delay peak color; and below average temps will cause colors to peak earlier). Additionally, areas near the lakeshore are typically cooler, therefore colors tend to peak first/earlier in these areas compared to the locations further from the coast. Also, there are many local farms with pumpkin patches, cideries, and plenty of family fun activities. Also, Traverse City is known as wine country! Fall wine tours are very beautiful in Traverse City.
Winter Activities:
Our Lakehouse is in a centralized location to many ski/snowboard resorts: Hickory hills (13.8 miles), Mt Holiday (6.7 miles), Crystal Mountain (34.4 miles), Caberfae (46 miles), Boyne Mountain (59.6 miles).
For snow tubing, Mt. Holiday (6.7miles), Timberlee Hills (19.5 miles)
Also, close to many locations for cross country skiing, fat tire biking, and snow shoeing.
1. Pets are welcome. We normally do not accept cats due to urination issues on carpet. Let me know beforehand if you are considering bringing a cat. We can discuss however, and a deposit will be required. We do ask that your crate your dog's when you leave the house. We have had issues in the past with pets damaging furniture and relieving themselves on the carpet.
2. The rental includes the pontoon boat at no extra cost in June, July, August, and September. The rates you see, DO include the pontoon boat at no extra cost.
3. If weather permits, May and October, there will be options to rent the pontoon, but it would be an additional charge, so the booking rate does NOT include the boat rental.
4. Minimum age for renting is 25 years of age.
Immerse yourself in the beauty of lakeside nature among the loons, swans, ducks, cranes, and deer. Fish off the dock, or kayak and pontoon on the lake without having to transport equipment anywhere for launch. Bask in the summer sun on the lake, enjoy the golden Michigan woods in the glow of autumn, or come back to your cozy indoor fireplace for hot cocoa after a day on the ski slopes or snowmobile trails. Plus, just a few meters off your beach is a nice sized island easily accessible by kayak or paddle-boat. Bring supplies to spend the day swimming, have a campfire under the stars, take the kayaks out, hang a hammock for a nap, or play volleyball out on the sandbar.
Nearby Traverse City includes extravagant wineries, breathtaking sights, incredible restaurants, and endless outdoor attractions including Turtle Creek Casino in range of a short Uber or Lyft drive. This home is situated 11.5 miles from downtown Traverse City. Your group can split a $15-$30 Uber or Lyft and be downtown in minutes.
The house has multiple decks and patios to enjoy, one with a large outdoor grill, a beautiful courtyard, and a fire pit. There's another beach-side fire pit near the dock for a cozy night of stargazing beside the lake. The interior is fully furnished with a washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge, and oven. There's also central air for those hot summer nights, and a powerful furnace for winter.
The coffee maker is a Keurig that has a single cup option and a full pot option. We stock ground coffee for our guests but feel free to bring your own and you will need to bring your own K-cups.
Sleep comfortably in one of four queen bedrooms, including a luxurious master bedroom and a fun room with bunk beds -- complete with two and a half bathrooms, and plenty of closet and drawer space. There are also two pull out couches with a queen mattress in the living room.
We have lots of board games for all ages to enjoy. Also we have city maps of Traverse City and menus from local restaurants so you can make dinner plans from the lake-house.
Check in with us to ask about our boat rental as well, we have competitive rates for our pontoon boat which is docked right on the property. As mentioned above May-Sept, boat is included but we do rent in April and October if warm enough.
Pets are allowed but you have to crate your dog if you leave the house without it.
*Other things to note*
- We have a max of 12 occupants, including adults and children. We have a max of 5 cars that are allowed, 2 must be in the garage, the other 3 can park in the driveway. We cannot have anyone park on the road or the neighbors yard. This is family setting lake cottage so we don't allow parties and have a quiet time after 10pm to meet township and short-term rental guidelines.
- The 4th bedroom is in the garage level accessible through the garage and outside. The master bedroom is on the main floor, and the other 2 bedrooms are on the 2nd floor of the home. It requires stairs to get up to the main floor of the house.
- We have 2 comfortable pull-out couches in the living room that can sleep 2 people each. With all the bed rooms and these, and adhering to the STR rules in the municipality, we can have a max occupancy of 10 people.
Note, we can only have 5 cars max, with 2 being parked in the garage.
- The boat is a pontoon boat, not a speed boat, it is meant for cruising, fishing out of, and relaxing in it. We do not allow tubing behind the boat either.
- The lake is a typical Michigan lake, the shore is not sandy but has vegetation, it's beautiful, but we don't recommend swimming at the shore, but rather at the island which is a very short boat ride, kayak, or paddle boat ride away. The island has plenty of space and a huge sandbar, typically with one or two volleyball nets set up. You can see the island right out the back window of the house, see pictures for examples.
- If you book 3 or 4 days during the week (not weekend), you get an extra day/night FREE, depending on availability to be applied within the Jan 1 to end of April timeframe,
- If you book 3 days, Thursday through Sunday, you get an extra day/night (Wednesday or Sunday) FREE, depending on availability.

My husband and I and our adult children had a lovely week at Brenden’s beautiful lakefront property. We tooled around the lake in the pontoon boat and enjoyed the sandbars by the island, lounging on floats and playing frisbee and ball with our dogs. Brenden was the perfect host and could not have been more responsive to our needs. We would be happy to rent fr

This house it the best. Had everything you could want right at your fingertips. Boat was the bomb. Family had a wonderful time. Brendan is easy to get a hold of and responds fast. This is our 4 year at this home and will come back.

My family and I had a great time during our 4 night stay. We fished, hung out, took the boat out a couple of times and enjoyed the nearby towns. We never had to contact Brenden once during our trip, everything was great.

We can’t say enough about how amazing this location is for a Mother’s Day celebration with friends and family. This property is well cared for and they have invested in so many things to make the stay perfect.
We had some very specific requirements when selecting a place to stay. One of the guests has a service dog. The fenced in back yard was perfect. We all sat around the fire and ate at the table outside without worrying about the dog running away.
We also needed a first floor bedroom for my mother who has PD and can no longer navigate stairs easily. That bedroom was perfect, and the connected bathroom and shower was beyond expectations. The toilet seat is HEATED!
The kitchen and outside grill made cooking for everyone easy and fun. The eating area was perfect. There’s an island with a few chairs and a large dining room table. The view of the lake, stories, jokes, and laughter are memories we will all take with us and cherish.
There are kayaks, a paddle boat, and a pontoon boat. They were used every day to adventure over to the island. While my mom could not navigate the stairs to the beach, she was able to enjoy watching them from inside. The view is amazing.
The sunrises were perfect over the lake. We captured many pictures while we were there, including some of the northern lights!
Brenden was an amazing host, the best we’ve had so far. Responsive, helpful, and very kind. He made sure we had everything we needed.
We are already planning our next trip here.

Beautiful lake home, w/good views. Quiet, peaceful. Shopping and restaurants only a short drive away. Many connivence stores w/in a 15 min drive. Home was well maintained & host made sure everything was thought of. Even laundry detergent (we brought our own), coffee, dishes, silver was available. We will be booking again for a future date.

My wife and I stayed here for Thanksgiving just to get away and we had a great trip. We brought the ingredients for dinner and made everything at the house, and we had everything we needed in the kitchen to make a great dinner. Everything was organized and labeled so we could find what we needed. My wife wrote the following so I will type it exactly as she wrote it..."When we got there it was already dark. I opened the door from the kitchen to the deck and I saw an owl sitting on the top of the rail of the deck and I was so excited but it turned out to be a figurine!!! I still loved the owl. The house was so clean and beautiful! The lake view from the house was absolutely beautiful and I went out to the deck in the early morning and the lake was so calm and peaceful and the fresh air...it's just enchanting! We had a marvelous time there!!!" Back to me speaking...the host was responsive and obviously puts a lot of effort into making sure your stay is as good as it can be. We appreciate it and recommend this house and host.

We had a wonderful stay at Brendan's large lake cottage and it made a perfect base for our early November Iceman weekend. The house is a little quirky in its layout with no real front door, but there is easy access through the garage (just be aware you have to bring your gear in up a somewhat narrow flight of stairs to the main floor). There's lots of space to spread out and our two kids enjoyed have their own bedrooms and bathroom upstairs from the main level. The lake views are gorgeous are there are multiple outside areas to enjoy including a fenced in patio area that would be great for small children and pets. This place must be super fun in the summer!

We love the Traverse City area and a water view is a must. This house was centrally located just south of TC with easy access in either direction up towards Suttons Bay or east to Elk Rapids. House has plenty of space, great features and we especially loved the fact that the many switches were labeled! And Brendan was great to work with. We plan to return.

Five older women stayed here for a little getaway. The house was clean and welcoming. It had everything we needed. We took a delightful ride on the pontoon on lovely Spider Lake. We saw loons!

It was a wonderful stress free week. Everything was better than in description. Ease of dealing with owner was wonderful. This was our third year staying and will be back. It was clean, relaxing and wonderful family vacation.

The house was great and met our needs. Outdoor enclosed space worked well for our dogs and our corn hole tournament. The pontoon boat allowed for enjoyable crusades around the lake and fishing. House and kitchen supplies were as advertised. We had a water leak issue and owner was quick to respond and took care of it.

I booked this house for a family reunion. I can’t say enough about the availability of activities and entertainment on the lake. The kids were on the water from the crack of dawn until dusk. We all had a fabulous time using the boats, fishing, and relaxing. Close to Traverse City for dining and shopping. Brenden was a gracious host, very responsive and did all he could to ensure we had a good stay. We hope to be back next summer!

Brandon was a great host! If you need a question answered he is quick to reply. He answers almost every question you may have before you ever get there. Very informative! The house and property were immaculately cared for. Kitchen was supplied nicely! I liked the extra fridge/freezer in the garage as we shopped just once for the whole week and needed the extra space. No complaints at all! We had a great time enjoying the lake swimming and fishing on the supplied pontoon boat. Smores by the campfire with the free supplied wood every night! Would highly recommend this rental to anyone! We would come back again if it weren't for our desire to try new places every year and see new things!

We had four couples staying at the house, turned out to be perfect for us. We were close enough to run to Traverse City, sample all the wineries, golf and hike. Having the use of the Pontoon Boat, Kayaks and Peddle Boat made this trip exceptional, we utilized these every day. Brenden was great to work with and made sure we enjoyed our time. I would definitely stay here again and recommend this place!!

We rent several times a year at various properties. In recent years you can start to feel the "blah" of corporate or large rental groups that is reflected in their properties. It was nice to stay at a home not just a house this time, it had thought-out amenities that make a home, it had things you didn't know you needed, until you needed them. It is risky, costly and I imagine a pain to maintain these offerings, we should all be thankful and respectful because these properties and hospitality are becoming rare. I was surprised and a little confused when the actual home owner reached out to me, an actual person, not a generated text or rental service employee. He spoke like we were old friends, which was the confusing part at first but once that was sorted out we had a great introductory conversation. Fire wood, toys, games and knives that actually cut, snow was scarce and ice was unsafe but all the extras were enough to accommodate and entertain all age groups. Thank you again -RJS

We wanted a secluded spot on the water that was big enough for 8 people. This was exactly what we were looking for and we all had a great time. Brenden was very responsive, and very easy to communicate with. My family will be staying here for many years to come.

We were looking for a weekend to just relax and get some peace and this property provided exactly that. Super pretty with a great location right next to the lake. The host was also extremely helpful and provided a ton of great recommendations. Highly recommend staying here!

This truly is a beautiful lake house! We make a trip to Traverse City every fall, and lucked out with this find...and some unseasonably warm weather. We spent our mornings on the patio taking in the peaceful lake views and spent the evenings at a lakeside bonfire. What could be better?! Spider Lake is a perfect spot - close enough to wineries, golf, and shopping , but tucked far enough away to relax and enjoy Northern Michigan fall afternoons. Brendan was a fantastic host, and beyond helpful. His place is added to our list of favorites!

We loved it, such a beautiful place and sights , riding into Traverse and shopping and dinner was wonderful , looking forward to returning

Very nice Lakehouse on Spider Lake and close to Traverse City and the wineries in the area. Brenden was super responsive, had great recommendations for things to do nearby. The house has plenty of space for multiple couples and lots of different outdoor areas to hang out in. Will definitely book again if we are in the area.

This property worked great for our family of 7 adults. Property represented well on the website. The use of the pontoon boat was a plus. Good location for relaxing, enjoying the lake and as a base for exploring northwestern Michigan. The bedroom connected to the garage is a bit different but proved to be a quiet respite from the rest of the house. All of our party enjoyed our 4 day stay.

This place was just what we were looking for. Wish we could’ve stayed longer. Brenden was a very gracious host and provided everything you could need including the pontoon boat and kayaks. My kids loved swimming at the island and taking boat rides. We had a great time! Thank you!

The house was perfect for our party of six, with room to spare. It is a two-minute (if that)pontoon ride from the best swimming on the lake, which we took advantage of all week. Easy drive to groceries/shopping and to Traverse City. We had some questions on the first day and Brenden was quick to respond and super helpful. His website was very easy to use and had a ton of useful information and recommendations. He went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience, and we will definitely stay at Brenden’s properties again!

Fabulous home on the Lake
Such a wonderful week on Spider Lake. Great house for family and friends. Pontoon was the cherry on top. Close to Traverse City and so much to do. Can’t wait to come back.

Wonderful get away!
The drive in was so pretty and the lake was quiet and beautiful. A bit too cold to use the included boat but such a nice amenity. We did cook several meals and the kitchen was small but well appointed. Had everything we needed. Used the grill one night and it was nice and big, right off the kitchen. Brenden was in touch often during the stay and addressed any concerns we had. (quite minimal!). Just note that one bedroom is off the garage (as noted in the listing) but I guess I didn't realize it was that removed from the main area of the house. Not really a problem but a bit away from a bathroom if you need one in the night. Stayed nice and cool and quiet though. Maybe an escape room if you need some quiet time? :)
Thanks for a great old friends get away vacation!

Friend Getaway
Would highly recommend this property. It was a group of 6 of us in our 40's and we went to Leelenau Peninsula by day and hung out at the house by night. Owner extremely communicative and helpful. VERY CLEAN!

Beautiful winter getaway with a lovely lake view!
Nicely equipped kitchen, comfortable beds, and plenty of room to gather as a family made for a great time! Close enough to TC to enjoy snow boarding and tubing but coming “home” to a cozy fire made it even more special. Host Brenden was a pleasure to book through and we’d definitely come back again to enjoy a different Michigan season!

Ice fishing weekend
This is a perfect location if you want to try to ice fish several different lakes within a 10 minute drive. Additionally, if the weather is bad Peegeo’s pizza and restaurant it’s a mile and a half up the road. Great location to watch sports & drink beer!

Great place to stay near Traverse City
We were so excited to stay in this VRBO because it was near our old cottage. This place exceeded our expectations. There was room for the eight of us (a girls weekend). It had a full kitchen with everything you could need. 2 1/2 BR., a multi layered deck that overlooked the lake. We took advantage of it being a mild November and were able to be out on the deck. Brenden texted us thru out the weekend to check on how we were doing. Highly recommend this place.

Great host and location!
Our family took my mom here for a little getaway to celebrate her birthday. Brenden was an excellent host from the start of booking until we checked out. He provided tons of info on things to do and places to see. He even checked in periodically just to make sure we were enjoying our stay and to see if there was anything we needed.
The property is in a great location that overlooks the lake. It was very clean, organized, and everything we needed was on site. Everything about this rental was streamlined in a way that made it easy just to arrive and enjoy our trip. Would definitely recommend this location for your next visit to Traverse City!

Peaceful picturesque view
We had a lovely weekend renting this property for a grad school reunion. It was equipped with everything we needed for 6 adults. We found the room off the garage to be a little strange and did not use it! The views of the lake were gorgeous and the setting was very relaxing and just as pictured. We unfortunately did not get to use the pontoon boat due to inability to coordinate a time to meet with the owner for a orientation/to sign waivers (just something to keep in mind that you will have to do with your whole party if you want to use the boat). Overall, we had a wonderful stay. The owner is very responsive and helpful, and I have always had a good experience renting his properties. I would not hesitate to rent from Brenden Stark again!

All About Mom
Our visit was a birthday treat for Mom. She enjoyed cruising the lake on the pontoon boat, sitting by the upper fire pit and the fireplace.
It’s a good place to visit and catch up with family.
