Everything here was perfect - we had no complaints. We had two questions come up during our weeklong stay and the property manager responded each time in less than an hour. The view of the lake from the whole backside of the house was amazing! The slide on the dock was much enjoyed by a seven-year-old in our group. We have been coming to Smith Mountain Lake most summers for close to 20 years and this has definitely been our favorite property. We will return!

Nice lake house with dock. Rented pontoon boat, cruised and fished. Close to grocery store and restaurants and the Homestead Creamery for the best ice cream ever. Stay was just too short.

We thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay. The location was great, convenient to grocery and restaurants. The lake was super relaxing and so fun to be in a cove looking out to the bigger lake and boats going by. A very quick response from Scott when needed.

Property was spacious and views were beautiful! Plenty of space for my family. The house could use some upgrades, but as Scott has mentioned, the price then goes up as well. And you are in a beautiful location, and did I mention the views?! While it is a steep climb down and back up to the water, you're right on the water. There is a canoe and paddle boat, which we used on our stay without a problem. We did buy our own life jackets at a Walmart. The Foosball table was a hit for our family. Sitting out on the deck drinking coffee, and just looking out over the water was spectacular. We went in April, and while the weather was not cold, it was super warm either. During the summer months, this is an ideal spot. If it was warmer, we certainly would have rented a boat for a day or the full week as part of our vacation. There are multie marinas close by. My daughter and I went horse back riding nearby and there are many places to hike and enjoy the beautiful views. The hot tub was nice in the evening. Scott was extremely quick to answer a few questions when we arrived, and we enjoyed our time at Walls of Glass!

House was very nice, a bit dated. Cleaning could have been better. Took the blanket off the king bed and there was dirt and food crumbles and hair on the mattress. Also less than half a roll of toilet paper in each bathroom with no spares. Loved the area and other than above issues, our stay was great!

It felt like home from the minute we walked in the door. The pictures don't do it justice.

A comfy home and very good location on lake

The family had a great time with days spent on the dock and in the water. The only downfall to the house are the water amenities. The paddle boat and canoe are pretty much not usable. The paddle boat is extremely hard to pedal and I noticed it takes on water with every turn of the pedals. The canoe cross sup[ports are rotted which kept us out of that other than the first time we tried it.

Owner was very responsive when we needed help. However, beds were uncomfortable (very firm) If you are bringing a boat, do your homework in advance. Many of the nearby marinas do not allow public use. The state park is your best bet. The dock and tie up area provide plenty of room and is safe for children and bathers. Regarding the house, it is old (including appliances) but very well stocked and the knives were excellent. The driveway is narrow and is suitable for only the best trailer driver. Overall a good experience for us and Scott is very helpful.

We had a wonderful stay. The neighborhood was nice and quiet and we loved sitting out on the dock reading or in the living room with the beautiful large windows. Lounging in the hot tub was the perfect way to end the day. Everything was very accurate to the pictures and perfect for our vacation. Would definitely stay again.

My wife and I adored our stay at Smith Mountain lake! This cabin has plenty of fireplaces, lots of room to sleep, a hot tub, and super easy access to the water. The pictures don’t do the windows justice. We plan on returning!

It was nice I would come back, but I probably would also try something new. The trip was a little distracted because my son had pancreatitis and spent a day in the hospital.

We loved this quiet tucked away home away from home. The wall of windows provided a great view of the lake and morning sunrise. We were able to recharge our batteries before returning to our busy lifestyles.

Location of property is perfect and situated in a nice quiet cove with deep water at the dock. Had a tree branch come loose over the driveway and owner had someone there the same day to have it safely cut down. House is nice sized, clean, exactly as advertised. Great for dogs too.

Excellent location - perfect for swimming, boating of all kinds, lazy afternoons reading on the dock, and early mornings with coffee on the deck. Morning walks with the deer. The teens enjoyed daily hot tubs. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking and baking. The owner was super responsive and helpful, including with linen and boat rental leads.

The house is exactly as described in the listing. It has a charming “cabin-y” feel. It is convenient to shopping and entertainment. The trash disposal facility is only a few minutes down the road. Scott was very quick to respond to any questions we had. We arrived to a clean house, stocked with movies and games to keep everyone occupied on a rainy day. The deep water cove made it easy to dock our boat for the week. We brought our own inflatable water slide, which was able to stay in the water in the protected cove all week. Swimming was fun and safe for all our children (ages 7-13). I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

The house is very comfortable and well equipped, we really appreciated that the grill had a filled propane tank.
The property is very wooded so it was so nice to have the screen porch to relax without getting bit by mosquitoes.
As with most of the lake properties there is a steep path to the dock and if it just rained it can be a bit tricky. We found having outdoor shoes and indoor shoes was the best solution.
We would definitely come back.

Family Vacay
Overall we were all really happy with this place! It was clean, and the windows made a gorgeous view. The mattresses were very worn out though and hard to sleep on.

Nice getaway with teens
Very nice trip and place. Very clean, great layout when traveling with teens, they had ground level to themselves. Cove was nice and quiet, great overall location. We got used to the walk. Only negative is beds, furnishings are a bit dated. Would stay again!

Good and Bad
To Good Stuff;
The owner was very quick to respond to a voice mail message left when I could not find a switch to a fan.
The location was excellent. Close to grocery store and eating places. Location on the lake is fantastic with easy access to any part of the lake.
The bad items;
1. I do not get why renters have to take their trash out when we pay an extremely high surcharge for a cleaning service?
2. If you have a cleaning service and a washer and dryer in the house then bathroom towels should be provided. This is the first rental of a VRBO where I had to bring my own.
3. No hand soap or shampoo in the bathrooms. Again, this is another first for a VRBO rental.
4. This driveway is in terrible condition. The entire thing is loose gravel and cars slid at slow speed while riding brakes. Trees grow too close and low branches will hit the vehicles using the driveway. We had 2 vehicles with boat trailers and we are all very experienced with backing trailers. DO NOT RENT THIS PLACE IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON BRINGING A BOAT TRAILER!! GETTING UP AND DOWN THIS DRIVEWAY IS DANGEROUS.
Note to the owner - the simplest thing to do to improve the driveway for all would be to remove the island where the two forks of the driveway come together.
Boat dock - beautifully shaded but only enough room for 1 boat to tie up. The lift will only work for jet skis. Note to owner - since there are 2 drive up jet ski pads the boat lift bunks should be reconfigured for renters to be able to put their own boat on it overnight. The wood on the dock is aged so make sure you wear shoes. The walk to the dock from the dock can be tricky. There are steps but over time the ground has become unlevel and the loose gravel adds to safety issues.

Our stay at Walls of Glass was just perfect! The dock and slide were so fun for all ages, and the hot tub was great on a drizzly day. The house is clean and comfortable, though I was happy we brought our own comforters in addition to linens. Nothing again the property, but it was nice to have our own covers. The foosball table is a perfect lake activity, and there were plenty of board games, too. But do BYO life jackets if you want to take the canoe or paddleboat out. We paddled around close to the dock, but would have wanted life jackets to go out further. All in all, it was so comfortable and happy, close to shops and activities, and we'd definitely rent there again! Scott was so helpful and communicative. Highly recommend.

Lake house was clean and ready-to-go, especially the hot tub. Kitchen well-stocked with utensils, pot/pans, etc. Grill in good working order. Home is spacious with plenty of seating. Large screen tvs with multiple channels and wi-fi. Easy walk to dock.

Wonderful location, but needs updating
Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this home. We are frequent visitors to SML, so we've rented quite a few homes at the lake for comparison over the years. We would rate this property as okay overall, but making some updates would make it much more comfortable.
Pros -- location is awesome, it's convenient to Moneta and Food Lion, the home was clean, has great sunrise views, our kids loved the games provided, the home had plenty of space for our family of 6 and it's located in quiet cove. The kids loved the canoe and paddle boat. The owner was also very attentive and helpful when we had issues with stove, which was appreciated.
Cons -- The house feels very worn out overall from what we imagine is years of vacation rentals. Updating the pillows, bedding, furniture and appliances would make for a much more comfortable stay for guests. Also, there are no blinds in the main living room or on the windows in the lower bedrooms, which proved to be challenging. We also didn't see any life vests, which would be helpful for use of the water toys.
We enjoy the charm of an older lake home, but a few updates would be much appreciated for overall guest comfort. Thank you for allowing us to use your home for the weekend!
