We have been staying at this property every year and obviously we love it! The owner is great and quick to respond. He is constantly working to make upgrades to the property. The view is fantastic and we enjoy fishing and kayaking. It’s our family’s favorite vacation!

Trash cans outside were full upon our arrival and disgusting. Dock was a mess and the lounge chairs covered in bird poop

We had a great stay during Memorial Day weekend! Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate. We will visit again!

Absolutely fabulous location! So much wildlife! We actually saw a deer get chased by a dog and swim across the lake to safety! A highlight of the trip :). The house is older and a bit musty, but just beautiful and plenty of space for everyone. Coffee on the deck in the morning and the hot tub at night were so wonderful. Owners are great and quick to respond. We would definitely stay again.

Place was great! The walk to and from the dock can be challenging if you have any issues. But then again it’s lake living!! Thanks!!

Had I not made reservations for a boat rental later in the week, I would have returned my bags to my car and headed home immediately after the first hour in the property. I have no ill will for an owner trying to earn income on a vacation home, but this property is in dire need of a good scrubbing and adjusted prices if repairs are not addressed. I submit this review understanding that my rating may take a ding, but in the spirit of VRBO, I feel the owner should address these issues before renting again or renters should be fully informed about what they should expect. Here are my observations:
Pro: Pet friendly, spacious, very nice lake view, the grill was clean and operational, hot water plentiful, king bed downstairs comfortable, lots of DVDs, good washer and dryer, the owner communicated well and allowed us a Sat. to Sat. rental instead of their customary Sunday to Sunday.
Con: Active mice infestation in the kitchen (found droppings in the cutlery drawers and pantry) and evidence they have been in the downstairs closets. The house is VERY worn and the filthiest VRBO rental I have ever seen.
Examples: Upon arrival, we found a huge clot of hair in the downstairs shower drain and remaining debris from prior renters’ showers, toothpaste on the downstairs half bath counter, disgusting moldy woodwork at the base of the downstairs shower, insect and mice droppings on downstairs closet floors, dirty windows that impact the nice view, dirty sliding door tracks (not a big deal unless you have to dig your finger in them to place locking poles), dirty smudges near almost every light switch and on walls, stained and dirty stair rug pads, downstairs TV is literally held together with duct tape with no directions on how to operate, glasses were placed in the kitchen cabinets with heavy grease marks, dirty oven that looks like it has not been cleaned after a year or two of use, household surfaces (furniture, fireplaces, shelves, etc.) had not been dusted in a long while, all of the oven mitts had food stains and bits adhered to them. We found greasy red food crumbs on the upstairs fan/light remote, broken and missing towel bars, and a stained bed cover in the upstairs bedroom.

This is a natural wooded lot on SML, there are trees, leaves and steps between the house and the water. We saw many birds and butterflies. The house had everything we needed and was a great comfort to return to after a day on the lake swimming, boating, fishing and tubing. The covered dock provided sun or shade and easy access to swim, float, fish and kayak. The location is very convenient to many things by both car and boat. The owner was very responsive to our requests during our stay. This was our first time at SML and everyone we met was very nice. We look forward to coming back.

Great Location
We had a great time. The owners were quick responding to questions. The property had everything we needed. The cleaning service wasn't great tho because the house had a odor of musty pet smells covered up with chemicals. There was a lot of dust and dog hair on the basement furniture. Definitely in need of a new grill as well. The the AC thermostat & temp did not regulate so we had to shut it completely off for several hours a day. But again, the place, location and owners were great.

Friends’ Fall Retreat
This time of the year the trees are absolutely beautiful!! The dock is a downhill walk to the water so if you have any issues with walking be careful! We loved fishing off the docks and taking sunset kayak tours of the lake. We visited peaks of otter and other hiking trails in smith mountain lake as well. We visited Ramulose ridge vineyards which is a mile away! Make sure yon get a wine flight. The hot tub was a perfect touch and we enjoyed ourselves to the max! We feel refreshed and can’t wait to see smith mountain lake again. The house is plenty spacious, clean, and easy to access. Highly recommend if you’re looking to book!

Great location on lake cove w/friendly neighbors
Loved the location on the lake and talking to the other neighbors. Rented a pontoon boat for first 4 days, and the dock was super accessible. For the last two days, we enjoyed taking the two kayaks to explore the cove in the immediate vicinity and met many of the neighbors.

Great house on the lake
This home was perfect for our family vacation. The location on the lake was ideal. Home had everything we needed, big open kitchen and cozy bedrooms and of course a wonderful dock to hang out by the lake.

Great House
Easy experience renting. Great house - well stocked. Loved the boat dock. Deep water. Close to wineries. Only negative ….. Steep walk to the boat dock so elderly mother could not make it down to the dock.

Our vacation week
We enjoyed our stay. Property is very nice inside. However, the deck, stairs, path to the dock, and "lawn" need attention//maintenance.

Secluded Spot
Excellent location to get away to before Summer on Smith Mountain Lake get rolling. Get lots of exercise walking to and from the dock but the house is designed for entertaining and the deck and patio provide beautiful views of SML. Two wineries and the SML state park are close by.
Suggestion to visitors: first thing to do is label the light switches and figure out which turns on what.

Lake Trip
We enjoyed the property and being close enough to Bridgewater and all the shops. We loved that the house was far enough in the cove so we didn’t have the traffic of the main channel. We will definitely be back to visit again soon.
Thank you

Lovely lake hideout
Lovely property. Perfect for our two families and our dog. Quiet, and much nicer than described!! The hot tub was perfect after a cold dip in the lake. Hope there are more openings for the summer, so we can stay again.

lakeside respite
We enjoyed our three day stay at High Point. The location is good. It's a quiet neighborhood on the lake , but an easy commute to shops for necessities and to points of interest. The house is well equipped and acceptably clean. The kitchen is great. It even features a wine cooler. We made use of the hot tub and the wood stove to keep the chill off. There are clear instruction for both of those amenities. We could not find any directions for the entertainment system, so we weren't able to fully enjoy that - just a minor problem. We certainly would go back to High Point and we'll look for the chance to visit Smith Mountain "in season".

Relaxing lakefront vacation
We had a very enjoyable stay at this house, which has nice views of the lake from most rooms and from the partially covered deck. The lake is down a hill on a path with gravel and steps. The partially covered dock was comfortable in both sun and shade. We enjoyed the hot tub. The kitchen is fairly well stocked. No problems with TV or Internet. Randee and Jonathan responded promptly to our questions.

My family and I utilized this property for a family reunion- it was a great meet up spot for us! We were able to cook some great meals and have some good time to visit. The house was easily accessible for my older parents. The lake view was beautiful.

Relaxing Getaway
We stayed at this property along with two other couples and had a blast. Waking up and walking down to the dock to jump in the lake was amazing, and the house had everything we needed. The wineries nearby also offered a nice outing.

Perfect Getaway!
Our family absolutely loved our stay at Stella's Hideaway. The house was exceptionally clean, the kitchen was well stocked and there were many games and movies available to enjoy. We enjoyed time fishing from the dock, kayaking and swimming in the beautiful (and warm!) lake. Jonathan was very attentive and helpful. We are already planning our return visit, our dog Tucker insists! Thank you for the most relaxing vacation.

Nice Lakefront Property in Secluded Cove!
This was our second time staying at this property and we were not disappointed. We enjoyed the nice dock area and convenience of the kayaks. The deck off the home also has a covered portion which allows you to continue outdoor activities even if it starts to rain.
We had one question for the owners during our stay, and they were quick to respond and assist in resolving our question. We would recommend this property and look forward to staying again in the future.

Great Dock on a Quiet Cove
We enjoyed our stay! The home is on a natural lot, in a quite cove, with a very large dock area for relaxing, swimming, kayaking, and paddleboarding. The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need to cook. The home is remodeled in some areas and some not but is well maintained. We had a maintenance issue with a shower and the owner was very easy to contact and it was fixed in less than 24 hours. Our only issue was parking the boat trailer in the woods area because we pull our boat with an F250 long bed and the narrow road and sharp turn made it extremely difficult. The property is very wooded and path to the lake is small gravel; wear/bring appropriate shoes for walking up and down. We called it Icecream Hill because after walking up and down we earned Icecream at night.

210 Lakewood Dr
Our stay was extremely relaxing. Owners responded to questions quickly. I would definitely stay there again. It may have been in the description and I overlooked it however be prepared to bring your own linens, towels and paper goods as well as cleaning supplies. Also the air was set to 77 degrees for the summer and it was difficult to change.

Peace and Quiet
The house was perfect for a week of rest and relaxation. We spent countless hours reading on the dock, swimming/kayaking/floating on the lake, and enjoying just how quiet everything was. The hot tub was an excellent way to spend some time later each day. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed most of our meals on the deck. We rented jet skis one day, which was literally a nice change of pace! :)
Overall, this place was great and I'm so glad our little family made some good memories there!

Great family vacation with pups!
We had a relaxing and fun week at SML. This property has a great location to the lake and is situated on a quiet cove. Our family enjoyed using the kayaks and having our dogs with us for their first vacation. Thank you for sharing your lovely home with us.

Enjoyed our time there!
Great facility...loved the view of the lake from every room, modernization of lower level rooms, hot tub, kayaks, and relaxing atmosphere. Appreciate the gas grill, which started right up.
Steps made it difficult to get to the dock and back . We noted the following that need attention: Loose handrails on inside stairs, loose toilet seats, loose cabinet door hinges, many squeaky doors, sliding door from kitchen onto deck VERY hard to open/close. A good handyman could fix these in a day and make a big improvement. Also faster internet would help make communication better.
Other than these minor items it was a wonderful place and we enjoyed our time there. Thank you!
