Luxurious house, situated two hours from Kerry, one hour from Galway, 40 mins from The Burren, 45 minutes from Shannon Airport and 500m from the beautiful, award winning village of Mountshannon, this property is truly a special find - ideal for touring the southwest of Ireland as well as being just 2.5 hours from Dublin.
The local area is well known for golfing, fishing, hiking and water-sports, and hosts one of the most successful Arts festivals in Ireland. Music is available in local pubs in season, and there are several good restaurants nearby.
The house is an architect designed high quality detached home - set on 1.5 acres , with views over Lough Derg and the Tipperary Hills. It is a warm home - timber-framed with zoned central heating and wood-burning stoves. The ceilings are higher than standard, giving a bright airy feel to the home. A large kitchen/living-room/dining-room is at the centre of this home, with a southerly aspect, and magnificent views of the lake. This space has a sound system with built-in speakers . A three-metre square roof window makes this a particularly bright space. The room is adjoined by a living-room with TV - which also has a wood-burning stove.
Bedrooms 1 and 2 are at the west of the property, and enjoy en-suite facilities and patios.
A family suite ( sleeps 4 ) is located within the Diner area of the house, loved by families with younger guests. This area has a Diner style living area with a bar.
Outside, there are extensive patio and decked areas - ideal for lounging or dining al fresco. Children love to play in the huge garden, which also has a greenhouse with herbs that guests are welcome to use.
The East Clare way walking route ( easy to moderate) passes by, and the area is a particularly restful place, with forests, bog-land walks and beautiful unspoiled views over the mountains and lake. Attractions include Holy Island - accessible by a short boat trip available from the harbour - it is one of the earliest Monastic settlements in Ireland (500AD). There is a great park with children's playground and adult gym equipment, a maze, and at the harbour there is an Eagle viewing station.
There are restaurants and local pubs full of atmosphere and charm.
Keywords: Large luxurious residence, sleeps up to 8, ideally located for touring West and Southwest. Less than one hour day -trip to southwest destinations, like Galway, The Burren, The Cliffs of Moher.

This home is a wonderful base to explore Lough Derg and even the Cliffs of Mohr. It is spacious, light, has a great connection to the outdoors, is well maintained and very clean. The hosts, Jim and Annie couldn’t be more gracious with a nice welcome , thoughtful local snacks and coffee/tea and great recommendations for exploring the area if you’d like them. Wonderful stay!

This is probably the best place to stay in Ireland...the area is just gorgeous with great hikes and a beautiful lake, the local pub is an easy walk and really nice, plus there are several other nearby options, it's really not that far for day trips to the cliffs of Moher, Galway, Adare, Limerick, though you probably need a car and someone who is used to driving on the left side on small roads. The place itself is actually nicer than the pictures, beautiful open spaces, comfortable, great view of the lake and mountains from the yard. Jim the host works hard to make sure you have everything you need. I don't have any downsides to mention, all around really a special trip.

We selected this lovely house in Mountshannon as it is all on the one level and indicated that it was wheelchair accessible. Our son uses a power wheelchair and it isn’t easy to find a suitable holiday home in Ireland. While this house isn’t fully adapted it worked very well for our son. Our host, Jim, was extremely accommodating and ensured there was a shower chair available and one of the showers worked fine for our son. One of the double bedrooms and adjacent bathroom was also very suitable for his powerchair. There are some steps between decking levels outside but there are lots of options for accessing them from inside the house as there are plenty of doors.
The overall house is beautiful, very clean and well cared for with some lovely personal touches such as Jim’s own photos of the local countryside very nicely framed on the walls. There is an excellent laundry/utility room, a well stocked library with lots of guide books, local restaurant information etc. Mountshannon is a lovely quiet village with at least two great places for good food “The Snug” (lovely tapas, pizzas and wines served by very friendly staff), “Cois na hAbhna” (substantial and very tasty pub food, great mash and veg and also very nice staff). Also a good selection of eating options further afield in Whitegate, Scarriff and Killaloe. The small beach at Mountshannon harbour is a great place to take a swim in the lake. This is a really lovely location from which to tour around East Clare.

House and location are even better than advertised. A completely modern home that is spotless. We had a couple minor issues and our host was incredibly responsive, which is all you can ask for. Great house, great host and a 2-minute drive down to lovely Mountshannon.

From the beginning to the end our stay at Jim and Annies house, everything was just perfect!! We loved coming back after a long day of a sightseeing and unwinding there. We have traveled often and stayed at many AirB&Bs, but this is by far one of our favorites! They even stocked the fridge with staples and snacks and delicious bottles of wine!! Also Jim drove us to town for supplies the very first day as we didn’t have our car yet! Can’t wait to go back and visit them again someday!

I cannot say enough about the location, cleanliness and quality of this home! Close to Lough Derg and tolerable drive to cliffs of Moher, the burren and many other sites. Jim is an amazing host an made sure the home was well stocked for our arrival!
I highly recommend this home!

The host was so accommodating. Our flight was actually canceled and he offered to pick up our friends that day and made them feel so welcome. The property is BETER than the pictures. You are in the center to all of Ireland. Beautiful views … we had sheep out side our door. The house was spotless and had everything you needed and then some. The grounds were also outstanding. Looking forward to next year. Thank you Jim, Annie and Flurry ….

The house was well appointed, very clean and located on beautiful grounds with a garden and plenty of outside space to enjoy the view of Lough Derg. Our hosts,Jim and Annie, could not have been more helpful, kind and gracious. They anticipated and provided for every need. We stayed for a month and wouldn't change a thing about our stay.

What a wonderful place to stay. The moment we arrived, James was so welcoming and really helped familiarise us with the property and area. James’ tips for seeing the coastline were second to none and the tip to eat at Linnane’s in New Quay as we reached the end of our coastal tour was perfection. The house is beautifully appointed and so well equipped. The setting is perfect, peaceful and has great views. We had a great BBQ one evening and didn’t want to leave. Thank you James for your amazing tips, we really enjoyed our trip.

We had a truly wonderful stay at Mountshannon. The host, Jim, met us at check in and also provided really helpful advice and tips for day trips and places to eat. The house is beautiful, spacious, bright and very well designed. We took one day just to stay in the local area and enjoy the house. The location is right next to Lough Derg and there are lots of interesting places to visit nearby and also it is within driving distance of the Cliffs of Moher.
We spent over two weeks in Ireland and Jim’s house in Mountshannon was our last stop and definitely the highlight.

WOW!!! Jim was a fantastic host!! The home exceeded our expectations! So beautiful and had everything we needed and more! Jim went above and beyond with all the goodies he left upon our arrival and had great suggestions about what to see and do in the surrounding areas! Overall FANTASTIC!

From the moment we arrived everything was perfect. Jim met us and gave a tour of his beautiful and well-stocked house. Our daughter became engaged there in front of the picturesque lake on the property. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Thanks Jim for sharing your wonderful home.

The home is perfect for 2 to 8 people. The layout provides ample spaces for people to relax, eat and enjoy the tranquility. The property provides all amenities that you could need. Jim and his wife made us feel welcome with fresh flowers, easter snacks and decorations along with stocking some items in the kitchen. Jim was great in helping us plan and responded quickly and thoughtfully to our inquiries. It is about a 15 minute walk to the town of Mountshannon which has a coffee shop and 2 pubs. The Lough Derg area is beautiful and offers many scenic areas and great small towns to visit. The property is am easy drive to/from Shannon airport. We would definitely stay again if in the area.

The Mountshannon property was absolutely perfect for our family to enjoy as much of Ireland as was possible in a week. There was plenty of room, the beds were comfy and the whole house was spotless. The kitchen was well equipped where we cooked great meals and ate outside on the lovely patio. The central and quiet rural location allowed us to range coast to coast to see the sights and do a bit of genealogy too. Our hosts gave us welcome suggestions of where to shop and helped in may ways to make our stay more enjoyable. They even had the kitchen stocked with food, which was so thoughtful as we arrived in the evening.

We had a wonderful stay (much too short due to other obligations elsewhere in the country). The house was just as lovely as the photos and a very peaceful getaway. We cooked dinner in so can’t comment about nightlife in the area, but after touring around during the day it was a great place to return to relax and unwind. From the games available for kids to welcome items like milk, bread, cookies and wine, Jim and Annie thought of so many touches to make guests feel welcome. We wish we could have stayed longer!

Well set up large house, with full kitchen, two big fridges. Everthing you need. A very large and beautiful, garden, with a large deck, plus outdoor tables and chairs.
Tucked away in a quiet location, but within easy reach of Lough Derg activities (a car is pretty much required. unless you're going to stay glued to Mountshannon.)
Jim and Annie are delightful hosts, very helpful and friendly, but also very careful about respecting guests privacy. A wonderful place to stay.

Beautiful house in a great location
We loved our stay in Jims & Annies beautiful house - it is bright and spacious, very well kept, was spotlessly clean and equipped with plenty of towels, kids games, music, books, as well as food in the fridge and a welcome bottle of wine...
We stayed for 4 weeks and enjoyed every day of it, whether inside or outside, with a beautiful terrace and gardens with views of Lough Derg. Jim & Annie were the most friendly and helpful hosts, always there to help if needed or provide tips for trips and restaurants, spoiling us with self-grown salad and vegetables... Thank you again!!

Our group of 8 friends have just spent a wonderful weekend in this amazing well equipped home. The outdoor space with lots of seating and a barbecue lends itself to sitting outside late chatting ,drinking wine and star gazing at very clear skies. The 300 cd music system came into its own for dancing and music lovers.Jim and Annie were very friendly hosts .Highly recommended.

Super house for a family break, lovely space to be together and also have quite time for all. We are still enjoying the delicious vegetables Jim gave us from his garden

This was a beautiful property. It had everything my family of 7 could ask for. Plenty of room. There was even a guesthouse available if we needed it. It was homey and decorated beautifully. The scenery was exceptional. It was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed the deck and using the BBQ. The little pub in town was awesome and the people were so friendly. Our favorite day was driving around the lake and seeing the countryside. It was very easy to have communication with our host Mary. We experienced plane trouble on our outbound flight from Chicago and therefore arrived much later than expected. Mary was very accommodating and kept in contact with us. We had a huge apple pie and ice cream for everyone upon our arrival. I can't wait to come back and visit Ireland again and stay in this fabulous home. Thanks Mary for the trip of a lifetime!!

Perfect vacation home for our family of 12 adult children and spouses with our 91 yr old mother to enjoy and experience her country of origin. A wonderful lifetime wish fulfilled for her. The owners were fantastic... welcomed us with fresh baked pies and always there for anything we needed.
This home had everything we needed to enjoy being together with mom and watching her take in the beauty of her ancestral homeland. We easily made day trips to cliffs of Moher and Galway. Would definitely recommend this home for a large or multifamily stay.

Awesome home away from home!
Our family of 10 loved this home. We all felt at home here. Our 3 grandchildren had plenty of outdoor space for playing while the adults enjoyed the view of the lake and harbor in the distance. The neigboring horses,, donkeys and sheep became new playmates for the kiddos! The kitchen was well equipped for enjoying family dinners accented by herbs growing on the property. It's a great location for day trips to Galway, The Burrens, The Cliffs of Moher and more. We loved this home and highly recommend a visit. The photos are beautiful but still cannot capture the charm of the amazing property. Mary and her team were wonderful - always available to communicate and assist. The "goodies" and note from the owners was a nice welcome after our day's travels. We stayed in 3 different houses on our journey around Ireland and this was by far our favorite!

Beautiful property and home with stunning views!
We had 12 adults and 1 baby on this trip and were very comfortable in this home. it was well stocked with plenty of china, flatware and glasses which many times is an issue when traveling with a large group. The common areas have a very nice flow with the kitchen, dining tables, love seat and club chairs all in one large room that also opens right into the next space with an L shape couch and TV. We were all able to enjoy these spaces together without it being tight at all. Right behind the dining tables there are doors that open onto a large deck and seating area below. The property is gorgeous, views were amazing and just a wonderful trip ! Thank you!

Spectacular country property with stunning views of the lake and hills
Our family of six, ages 22-65, spent 4 fabulous nights in this beautiful home which served as home base for day trips to the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, and the Dingle Peninsula. This house is amazing! The interior has a very spacious open floor plan with ceiling to floor windows which conveys the feeling that the views are part of the house itself. The bedrooms are privately situated in the four corners of the house and all, but one, have an adjacent bathroom. The kitchen was very large and well-equipped - literally everything we needed, except for our food/wine, was here. Lots of glassware, French-press coffee pots, outdoor grilling utensils, etc. There are 2 wood burning firestoves complete with starters and kindling. The house has an excellent sound system with several hundred CDs loaded in containing all variety of music. We all fell in love with the gorgeous setting which is in several acres of grassy meadow with views of Mountshannon harbor and Lough Derg. The outside deck is a wonderfully peaceful place to have morning coffee and watch the butterflies and the sheep in the meadow. Our adult children's only disappointment was that we did not "take a day off" from sightseeing to simply hang around and enjoy the property. In the evenings, we witnessed beautiful sunsets as well as a rainbow or two. The town of Mountshannon is very small, but it does have a couple of pubs and a gem of an upscale pizza restaurant called Snug (reservations needed). Unfortunately, we did not have our own car for transportation in the evenings to nearby larger towns but we did walk down (and later up) the long hill to the property and into town a couple of times. Our hosts and property manager Mary could not have been more helpful during the planning stages of our trip. She very quickly responded to each of my questions about grocery stores, restaurants, bike rentals and kitchen items. She left us a little lagniappe (yep, I'm from New Orleans!) in the form of a large homemade apple pie and creme fraiche for dessert upon arrival our first night. We did not experience any issues whatsoever during our stay. I would very highly recommend this fabulous property to a large family looking to have all the warm comforts of home in an Irish country setting.

As a party of 15 from Scotland, Canada and the USA we had a superb time in this spacious property. The kitchen was excellently equipped and we were short of nothing. We had a great holiday visiting all the usual attractions including a half's day cycling in the Burren. We had 3 superb days of weather and would have liked more sunshine in the 2nd half of our week - but I guess without the rain it would not be Ireland! Thank you for providing such a comfortable base for a most enjoyable family holiday.

Spacious, well equipped, beautiful atmosphere
The property was private and peaceful with a gorgeous view. It accommodated our 7 kids and 7 adults well. Nice yard with deck and animals. The house had everything we wanted and needed including brochures, movies, washer/dryer, shampoo, and lots of towels. :-) The welcome pies were a treat and the kitchen was well equipped to handle 14 people. Thank you so much! Having such a comfortable and beautiful home base made all the difference for our Ireland adventures.

A perfect home base for exploring Clare
We rented this house for eight nights in early June, and were thrilled with every aspect of the house. We were nine family members from California, from 14 to 76 in age, coming together for a visit to the family farmstead in nearby Mountshannon. We were looking for something that would provide nice spaces to be together as well as good private spaces to escape to, necessary to a pleasant trip together. This house has it all: The setting is spectacular, in a grassy meadow with stunning views over the islands of Lough Derg to distant hills. The layout of the house is very well considered and takes best advantage of the site. Several rooms open directly outside, and there are several large patios, perfect for lounging, reading or enjoying a glass of wine and the view. The large main space is great for cooking and eating and gathering, with comfy informal seating centered around a wood stove. There is a second, comfortable living room with a fireplace, for gathering or quiet escape. The third living space, with the bar and black and white tile floor, worked exceptionally well for the parents and teen as it is part of a separate suite. The master bedroom and bath worked well for the older folks, including a more easily accessible shower. A separate cottage is available, which we made good use of for a visiting aunt and uncle. One of the best things about renting a house like this is to be able to cook meals together, and a decent kitchen is important. The kitchen here is very well equipped. Beyond the property, the local roads are nice for walking. Nearby Mountshannon, has a wonderful park with gardens and a maze, or you can sit by the lake at the marina. In the same park, there is a tiny Saturday market (with good vegetables and baked goods), and across the road (N352), a very nice place for pizza. Nearby Scariff has green grocers and meat markets, and has the Grainy, for good organic ingredients, spices, local cheeses, breads and other goodies. Overall, the place was very well equipped and beautifully kept, and the management of the house went out of their way to answer all manner of questions I had. They were very quick to respond with one very minor issue, a burned out lightbulb (which was actually just a switch we couldn’t find). We would return tomorrow, and would not hesitate to recommend this house for a wonderful vacation experience in Clare.

Fantastic
We absolutely loved our stay. The home was roomy with an open kitchen which we used every day. Very clean, which is extremely important to us and the beds we're comfortable. The hosts where extremely helpful. The lake was a short drive or long walk away and provided some incredible sunsets and fantastic pictures we will treasure forever. It is a fantastic vacation home. We will be back.

Spacious home and beautiful views!
The house is spacious and well-equipped and the views are beautiful! There is plenty of room outside for children to run around and several decks/patios. Mary is wonderful to work with - she gives you your privacy, but is readily available for any questions. She did a wonderful job in providing directions to the house, nearby restaurants, stores, and places to visit - and even baked us a gorgeous and delicious apple pie! We enjoyed our time in Mountshannon. The only possible negative about the house is the bathroom set-up. There is only one true en-suite, a second en-suit opens to the entryway of the house, and then there is a third bathroom. It wasn't a deal-breaker for us, (one family of eight) but is definitely something to consider if sharing with others. The pictures do accurately represent the house.

The property was beautiful and way beyond expectations.
The pictures don't do the home and views justice. We arrived to find a freshly baked apple pie in the refrigerator, I love apple pie! The home was clean and well taken care of. The views were beautiful and the neighbors were very friendly (sheep and donkeys). When we had a problem with the water pressure, it was taken care of immediately. Overall we were very happy with the property and would stay there again.

House from the movies!
Our extended family of 14 adults and two babies stayed in this wonderful place. The views are fabulous, the area is very scenic and day trips to The Cliffs of Moher and Galway were wonderful. Some of our party played golf at the local East Clare Golf Club and Portumna. The house itself is amazing, the living areas and some of the bedrooms had spectacular views. It had wifi that was fast, much better than usual in holiday accommodation. It felt like a modern hotel in a great place, all to ourselves. We loved the huge outdoor space, and had a BBQ one evening and lit the fire pit and enjoyed watching the sun go down over the lake- the view really is something. The whole place is impeccably maintained and everything we needed was there. The owner was warm and friendly, very helpful in planning our trip. We would love to return some day.
