Enjoy unforgettable sunsets every evening as you dine, enjoy a drink or simply put your feet up and relax on the lanai of your very own Island house in Sunny, west Kauai. Take in breathtaking and unobstructed oceanfront views without even leaving the house.
Aloha and welcome to Hale 'Ono Kane Kai', our spacious, 3 bedroom, two & 1/2 bath, oceanfront home in Kekaha. This home was custom constructed and has three separate lanais, totaling 1100 square feet of 'OUTSIDE' living area, and an additional 1700 sq ft inside.
** We just installed a brand new split a/c system, so the entire house is now equipped with the latest and most efficient a/c system.
West Kauai is home to the longest, continuous stretch of white sand beach in the entire state of Hawaii. (over 15 miles long). Additionally, Kekaha is the closest town on the island to the world famous 'Polihale' Beach, which is arguably the most incredible beach in all of Hawaii. Polihale Beach has miles and Miles of pristine powder sand, 100 ft tall sand dunes, crystal blue water and a gorgeous backdrop with views of the 3000 ft cliffs of the Napali Coastline.
Salt Pond Beach is yet another choice within a few minutes of Kekaha for those days when you want extremely calm waters to swim in, or perhaps do a little snorkeling. Salt Pond beach is in a protected cove, so it's almost always calm enough for taking the 'little ones' in the water too.
Activities in West Kauai include surfing, sunbathing, swimming, body surfing, boogie boarding, wind surfing, whale watching and endless hiking opportunities. In the winter months, you can watch whales right from the lanai of the house, and year round you can enjoy the magnificent westward views over the ocean and the island of Nihau, which is the closest island out in front of you, approximately 18 miles off shore.
After a day at one of our incredible beaches, you can rinse off in the private, outdoor shower. At night, let the sounds of the ocean’s waves rock you to sleep.
Kekaha is located on the 'Sunny' west side of Kauai and is the western most town in the US. With an average annual rainfall of less that 20 inches, you can almost be guaranteed a warm, sunny vacation, regardless of the time of year! This is like traveling back in time to the way Hawaii used to be. No crowded beaches, no tourist traps, no hotel resorts, just sun, surf and people who remember what the 'Spirit of Aloha' really means.
Less than a block away is the road that leads to the famous 'Waimea Canyon' and the 'Kalalau Lookout'. There are two major grocery stores three miles away and you are minutes from the harbor where you can catch a sunset cruise along the NaPali coast.
The living area of this house is actually the second floor making the unobstructed ocean views from every window even more spectacular. The master bedroom suite has a beautiful stone and glass block shower. Ladies, you will never have to worry about your guy leaving the toilet seat up in this bathroom because he will have his very own, custom, built in urinal! The other two bedrooms and second full bath are extremely private, separated from the main house by a large lanai.
To satisfy your entertainment needs and keep you 'connected' during your stay, you will find this house well stocked with electronic 'toys'. There is FREE Wifi, Stereo CD player, 3 televisions, DVD player, and streaming.

Loved the location. So glad I didn’t get a place on the busier East/north side. Very chill, near beaches that had hardly any people. So if you are looking for a chill experience with less tourists, great weather. It was always sunny, compaired to the more rainy conditions on the east/north sides. Excellent amenities. Had everything we needed, the lanai was perfect. View was amazing. Close to lots of hiking in the canyon. Excellent communication with the owner, who let us leave later than expected due to our plane times being changed.

Great sunset views! We had 3 couples (all family) and there was plenty of room!

This is a great place to stay if you want to be away from the resort communities. It is in a very quiet neighborhood and the view of the ocean is perfect. The front lanai is large and can accommodate the whole family. It is where we spent all of our time when "home". The smaller bedrooms are separated from the main house by an outdoor lanai which could be an issue for families with small children, but it was perfect for us. The kitchen is well stocked with the basics and there is a local grocery store about 10 minutes away for anything else. The entire house is equipped with AC, but we found that it was only needed in the bedrooms. With all of the windows open, the breeze keeps the living areas very comfortable. The location is perfect for the local beaches and Waimea Canyon, but it is a drive to get any of the other touristy places. A trade off for the peace and quiet. We enjoyed the beach chairs/toys that were provided. Other reviewers have mentioned the road noise from the highway, but it never stopped us from enjoying the lanai. We would absolutely stay here again.

Property located in quiet beautiful setting. While ocean views were fabulous there is no accessible beach directly in front of the property. Property has had loving use- dishwasher needs to be replaced - it does not clean dishes and regular maintenance should include replacement of all burnt out lightbulbs. Otherwise we loved our stay and would rent it again. Property manager was extremely helpful at all times.

Nice clean. A lot of little ants in the kitchen. Otherwise a nice property

Great communication. Comfortable and well stocked with anything you need. Sunsets and oceanview was the best. The only thing i would say is that you will need to carry your luggage up quite a few stairs, so a larger piece of luggage might be a challenge and that two of the rooms are not part of the main living area but across a small landing attached to the main area. Not a problem for us but could be for others.

The location of this home is everything. We woke up to a beautiful view and fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing on the shore. It's just a quick walk down and across the street to a pristine, quiet beach. We are a family of 4 - myself, my husband and two teenage boys. This house was perfect for us, and we hope to be back again soon!

Lots of room for a family of 5. There was lots of spices and condiments Location is far from everything. Absolutely no beach front, just big boulders.
My stay was not what I expected. Picture are not updated.
None of the windows or patio doors lock. Had to put a cutting board in one kitchen window and a wooden spoon in the other. Needs new curtains or blinds in master bedroom.Lots of traffic noise. But a lot of wave noise too.
Some lady next door kept putting cat food out on the property.
Chad was awesome to communicate with and even let us stay another day because of our flight chance and let us stay until we need to leave, much appreciated, thank you Chad.
The cleaning people need to do a better job..

Had a wonderful stay at this property. It has 5 star views for sunset. Beach chairs and towels. Well stocked kitchen. The house could use an overall deep clean. We are definitely neat freaks. However it wasn’t anything we couldn’t get past. The view as I said is amazing will include pics. Definitely worth overlooking the flaws.

Our Family of 5 stayed here. Was great space for all to relax. Kids had rooms across deck outsid so may not be good for young ones. View was amazing! There is some road noise but, worth it. We enjoy staying away from all the hussel of larger towns. So, as long as you are good driving to restaurants or eating in, great place to live Island life.

We had a great time during our stay at this property. THe house was well appointed and the decor was beautiful. The location was fantastic and good to get away from the busy Poipu areas. We loved sitting on the lanai and watching the waves crash on the beach. Overall, the communication was great with the property manager and we would come back again.

This is a very authentic beach house with some beach house quirks. But it sits in paradise. The flowering trees around the lanai looking onto the ocean is truly magical. All senses are engaged with the sight, sound and smell of the ocean and the flowers. We loved it and would love to return. The dishwasher doesn't really clean, but who cares when you have this view while washing dishes?

This house suited us well. We don't like the hustle and bustle of the resort area. This house was a great fit for us. The host was helpful and the house was well equipped.

Beautiful views, great location for Waimea Canyon. Great spot if you desire to be away from heavy tourist areas. Great Lanai. Road was a bit noisier than we expected. Great house and layout, but could use a deep cleaning.

This place has so many things in its favor - comfortable king bed, A/C in bedrooms (best in master), a great kitchen with every a cook needs, looks out over the ocean, lots of elbow room and an L-shaped lanai with comfortable seating inside and out, proximity to the state parks and Port Allen/Hanapepe/Waimea. Chad and Keenan were quick to respond when we incorrectly thought we had a problem with the AC (we were here during Kona winds, ugh). We were put off by a skinny, shirtless local man with no bottom front teeth riding a red bike, though, who harassed us and cussed at us at nearby MacArthur Park, and whom we saw riding the red bike on the side street the next day. That was not cool at all.

This is a nice property with a beautiful view of the ocean. The entire living area is upstairs with the additional bedrooms across the breezy way. Yes, the urinal in the master bathroom is unique and can only be used by a tall person. The property could use some updating but overall the place was nice. We enjoyed our walks in the morning and breakfast on the deck. If you want some excellent Ahi go to Ishihara Market!

CLEAN. COMFORTABLE. THERE'S A BEACH JUST UP THE HOUSE. NICE WAVES AND SOFT SANDS. GOOD WAVES FOR SURFING. ALTHOUGH FAR FROM LANDMARKS, HOUSE IS VERY QUIET AND COMFORTABLE. THE DINNING TABLE IS OUTSIDE ON THE BALCONY. YOU CAN HEAR THE OCEAN WHILE YOU SLEEP. BEACH CHAIRS AND STUFF PROVIDED AS WELL. REAL COMFORTABLE STAY.

It was a perfect stay for my family and I. The two separate bedrooms is actually really cool. The ocean views were out of this world.

Great property with a great view. Beautiful house with the exception of a urinal in the master bathroom.
Other than the urinal, the house was beautiful and the view was amazing so girls, if you can get over the urinal, I would recommend this place. No visitors, no hotels, just locals with empty beach.

Nice place, but remote and beaches limited. Great for access to hike in Waimea Canyon. View of ocean great, but a lot of road noise from highway in front.

Great quiet location
Nice place if you want a quiet location. We enjoyed the stay. You have to do a little bit of driving to get to activities but the drive is always beautiful. It was nice that they supplied beach chairs, umbrellas and boogie boards. All the beaches are great.

Kauai Family Vacation
The trip to Kauai was for a wedding celebration at Poipu Beach. Our travel group included adults and my 2 year old and 6 month old grandsons. This residence was everything we wanted and the drive to the various wedding venues was with relative ease. The ocean view was exceptional and the proximity to Waimea Canyon was a big bonus. Very comfortable sleeping arrangements for our crew with most of our time on the premises spent under the covered outdoor wrap around deck ovelooking the ocean about 75 yards away. Kekaha runs at a little slower pace than the more populated areas of the island which added much to our experience.

Location can’t be beat for scenery
Definitely a gorgeous location with the ocean right across the street and perfect if you want to do some hiking in the canyon which is just 15 mins away too. It’s about 30 mins from any real tourist locations which was exactly what we wanted. If you want alot of places to eat and shop then just know you will have to travel at least that far to get there.

Great House!
Loved this house. The layout is a car port on the 1st floor under the house. You walk up a set of outside steps to a 2nd floor deck and there are 2 rooms to the right that share a bathroom and the main house to the left that has the kitchen, living room area, master bedroom (with master bathroom) and another bathroom. The master bathroom is huge with a dual shower and body jets. The "other" bedrooms share a large deck. The main house has a large deck with a dining table. We ate every meal outside listening to the ocean. The location is a quieter part of the island compared to Lihue, Kapaa, or Princeville. Great access to Waimea canyon and the southern parts of the island. There's a small white sand beach just across the street about 100 yards left (if walking across the street). There's a larger white sand beach a mile down to the right.

Very Nice Stay
We really enjoyed our stay at this property in Kekaha. The property was clean and as described -with everything we needed for our stay. Property manager was very easy to work with. The separation of the bedrooms is a little unusual but worked well for our group of 3 couples. Location was terrific for us as we went into the Waimea Canyon area twice and took a great Napali Coast boat (Makana charters) trip that left right from the Kekaha harbor. Particularly loved watching wonderful ocean sunsets right from the Lanai.

Great Place to stay while getting to know the island
The house was pretty much as described on VRBO. I had a lot of questions and Chad was great and quick when responding to my questions. We arrived late at night and the house could have had some lights on to greet us, it was really dark, but we managed, and all was well. The location was as described and we enjoyed exploring, it is a bit of drive if you want to explore Hanalei and the Kilaue Point . We planned out trips by location and split things up by days, so it worked just fine. There is so much to do and a lot of beaches in the area. One thing that I think people missed or didn’t know was near the house is the Kawaiele Waterbird Sanctuary, its s a great place to see some water birds. I loved being close to Waimea Canyon we drove there a couple of times and did some hiking. I cooked almost all our meals. We used the grill a few nights and I had no problem finding the things I needed to cook. I did have to wash the rice cooker and crock pot before I used them. There are plenty of dishes, utensils, dish towels and napkins. The washer and dryer were great as well. We stayed for 10 nights so I did wash linens and change them once. I appreciated washer pods available for use. We sat outside most nights enjoying a cocktail and I had my coffee on the lanai every morning. I did have to do a few hours of work, which I did on the lanai and the internet worked fine, I had no problem with the speed. The view off the deck was great the sunsets AMAZING. Star gazing was great the best if done in the deck area between the two sections of the house. The road noise was there, I don’t believe it was a big issue, but it is there. I had more issues with our extremely loud neighbors, they were having fun, so I tried to chalk it up to finally getting to get out and spend time with people. The beds were comfortable, we tried two of the rooms due to the loud neighbors and there were plenty of towels. Basic items were provided. Hand soap, shampoo, body wash, laundry soap, dishwasher soap and dish soap and sponges and TP as well. Be sure to check the laundry room that is where the spice rack is located, look before you purchase there are some items there to use. We had no issues with the house it’s a great place to stay and very responsive management. We had a nice stay.

Perfect Vacation House for Us
My husband and I stayed at Hale Ono Kane Kai for two weeks with another couple. The house has an unusual layout as mentioned in previous reviews, with two bedrooms and a “jack and jill” bath separated from the main house by a lanai. This would not work well with young children, but it provides privacy for two couples.
The wrap around lanai on the ocean side was the perfect place for morning coffee and evening meals with wonderful sunrise and sunset views. The kitchen had all the dishes and utensils you could possibly need, the gas grill worked well and the house was the best stocked house we have ever rented, with plenty of spices, soaps and paper products.
The rental manager was very responsive and gave us all the information needed for an easy check in and check out, plus suggestions for shopping and activities.
The house is located on the quiet, less tourist driven side of the island, very close to Waimea Canyon. If you are looking for golf courses and numerous fancy restaurants, this is probably not the house for you. If you want quiet beautiful beaches, amazing hikes and scenery in Waimea Canyon and meeting local people, this house will be perfect. The aforementioned road traffic was not an issue at all for us.

Great location, beautiful house
The location of this home is perfect. Almost instant access to Waimea Canyon and great beaches nearby. It’s in a quiet (not touristy) neighborhood which was exactly what we were looking for. The ocean view is amazing. We were able to watch the spectacular sunset every night from the lanai. Home is well appointed and had every thing we needed for our stay. Chad is great to work with.

Ocean view home across the street from ocean
Wonderful home with breathtaking views from living room and kitchen
Very comfortable and well equipped kitchen
Lots of fans which helped with air flow since there is air conditioning in all the bedrooms but not living room
Spent a lot of time eating on the deck overlooking the ocean
Beautiful sunsets
Highly recommend

Great Stay for Families with Young Adult Children
This property is located on the "drier" side of Kauai. It has a breathtaking view off the front Lanai and the Kitchen. As other reviewers have noted the Kaumualii Highway runs right in front of the house. It has a lot of industrial trucks that use this highway so it has a lot of traffic coming and going. With that said, we personally didn't think it took away from our ability to sit on the front Lanai every day multiple times and enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks or the view. We have two young adult children (18 & 19) who have been coming to Kauai with us for over 10+ years. They were in LOVE with this house/location. the setup was perfect for us. It had the main house, then a mid lanai between the house and the two other bedrooms which shared a jack-n-jill bathroom. Then those rooms had an attached lanai off the back that had a view of the mountain behind it. They were able to have their own separate space from us and each other. Both kids used the outdoor shower the entire time they were here. They LOVED it. There was plenty of kitchen essentials to allow me to cook breakfast every morning, make lunches that we would take to the beach or other activities. The master bedroom was perfect (the bed was amazingly comfortable) the master bathroom was big and the shower was huge. All rooms have their own A/C units, the main areas of the house do not, but get the cross trade winds through the louvers/screens. The neighbors were friendly. There were several areas to sit on the beach near the house, but they weren't really for swimming (the surf was usually pretty rough). In all the time we have been coming to Kauai, we have never made it this far west. We were so glad to change things up a bit and enjoy this side of the island and this property. We also discovered how quaint and accommodating Waimea was. We did take an overnight trip to Poipu (where we usually stay) and I confess, it seemed a bit overcrowded compared to the laid back vibe we got being at this property.
My only feedback would be that there were corners in the main den area that looked like they hadn't been swept or mopped in a while and some of the dishes I had to give a little washing before I used the first time. This is why I gave the cleanliness 4 starts instead of 5. Not a huge deal, but worth noting so the cleaning crew can make adjustments.
We loved this property and would stay here again.

Relaxation in Kekaha
The property manager was one of the best that I have experienced. We originally planned this trip in Feb 2020 for Oct 2020 and that did not work out due to pandemic and Chad was very reasonable in moving our dates so we didn't lose out on this property. The lanai looks over the ocean and we spent many hours out there enjoying the view. The road is very busy in front but its easy to cross and walk up or down the road to the sandy beach.
We had one couple who enjoyed the master suite and then the two bedrooms and bath that are across the back patio were enjoyed by my aunt and myself. It was a great set up for us. The bedrooms all had air conditioning and the beds were comfortable.
The house was well stocked with this and that. We used the washer and dryer several times. We enjoyed our time in Kauai!
