About this cabin rental
Reserve your Nature Sabbatical! This vintage and charming cabin is the perfect place to unplug from the craziness of the world and reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and the life you were meant to live. Science now confirms what the "Ancients" have always known, time in nature is essential to our health and well being. Take a break from screens and devices as part of your renewal time. Wander our many trails which offer both seclusion and stunning views.
University of Earth is a "Sanctuary of Sobriety" and intoxicants of any kind are not allowed on the land. At the Lost Sierra Retreat Center nature is the intoxicant, come drink in the "moonshine." Leave the cannabis, psychedelics and alcohol spirits at home. Come imbibe on the Spirits of Nature, you will be amazed at the clarity this can offer.
This delightful cabin was built in the 1920’s and has a peaceful nostalgic ambiance; with its knotty pine paneling, it is truly a taste of a bygone era! We have named this cabin "Little Feather," and is one of a cluster of five cabins that were part of the Penman Peak Lumber Company established in 1925, which was a small working lumber mill until the mid 1940’s.
The cabins are part of University of Earth and the Lost Sierra Retreat Center. All the cabins are within walking distance of the National Wild and Scenic Middle Fork of the Feather River, which winds through our 40 acres. Stellar views of the Feather River, along with Sierra sunsets and moonlit nights, can be seen from the private back deck and riverside bedroom, along with many wonderful places to view the mountain peaks, Feather River and the local wildlife.
Located along scenic Highway 70, the Retreat Center and land is surrounded by U.S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, and to the delight of many of our guests, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property.
Wander our many trails which offer both seclusion and stunning views. Swim in the healing waters of the "Medicine River." Our enchanting riverside sitting areas and hammocks make our retreat center just what the doctor ordered.
Our Nature Sabbaticals offer a unique opportunity in a truly magical setting for our guests to unplug and let nature become the healer and teacher. If you can, our suggested stay is three nights or longer in order to truly allow nature to have its way with you. For those so inclined, each of the cabins have suggested nature immersion activities and ecotherapy practices scientifically validated to promote healing, wholeness and enhanced creativity. Examples are walking barefoot on the delightful riverside sands and enjoying the health benefits of grounding while forest bathing.
Make this your base for exploring the Lakes Basin Recreation Area, Plumas Eureka State Park, and the surrounding areas. The Lost Sierra is a wonderland for hiking, swimming, and personal retreat.
The Lost Sierra Retreat Center offers indoor lodging for up to 30 in our charming and delightfully appointed historic cabins. Our two "Glamping" Yurts provide additional indoor lodging for up to 4. Our serene riverside primitive campsites offer an opportunity for deep nature connection and privacy. Host your workshop here!
Guests have access to most of the 40 acres, river sites and common areas. The river sites have Adirondack chairs and hammocks, and one site has a firepit (used as season/fire restrictions allow). The river may be accessed by an intermediate trail from the cabin area, or unpaved road (seasonally).
There can be an occasional train; there is no set schedule. Most guests enjoy it!
We have a "No Shoe" rule at the cabins. So, rock your sox - or slippers!!
We live on the property so are available to assist if needed, along with our staff.
Also to note: Cell service can be spotty at our rural mountain location. High Speed internet, if needed, is just a short drive away.

This place is exactly what I was looking for. I just wanted to be close to nature and have a good roof and table after my hiking. Thank you, Janet, for checking me if everything was ok and asking me if I need any help.

Return to the High Sierra
We thoroughly enjoyed living in this quiet place for a few days. It brought us back to our roots of mountains, river, quiet, clean air, and birdsong. The property and its trails down to and along the River were so well designed. We could tell that time and a meticulous nature went into the trail construction. To sum up, it was just a home away from home ~ I sincerely wish the Silver's all the best in their future years here. Thank You for all you have done. Hopefully we can return one day.

Peaceful Cabins in the Pines
The location is ideal. Surrounded by tall pine trees this collection of well taken care of cabins is peaceful and a short distance from Graeagle and the Lakes Basin. The owners live on site and are kind, considerate, and responsive. A three minute walk takes you to an overlook of the beautiful Feather River Canyon with chairs to hang out in. This particular cabin is comfortable and thoughtfully arranged and decorated. The shower is a bit challenging with an antique arrangement that's a bit difficult to control but the bathtub is huge and relaxing. All in all a good vacation bet.

Almost had a snow day
Given that we had a 24 hour downpour, followed by snow, some people may not have enjoyed the isolation. But we did. One has to be comfortable with a lack of some entertainment amenities. We are. A good stay.

Charming cabin
Fantastic property. The cabin was great. The land, river and hikes right on the property were amazing! I wish the cabins were a little further from the road. That is the only sound other than nature. It was not bad for sure but otherwise, fantastic. I would highly reccommend!

By The Feather River
I almost as a matter of principal never give anything a 5 star rating except movies, but It is hard to find anything but positive things to say about our visit here. The directions to the site were very easy to follow, and the location, cabins alongside the Feather River, was perfect.
The cabin was small but ideal for two and very clean. Everything we needed was there, in the bathroom, living area, bedroom and kitchen. A couple hundred yards from the cabin there are seats atop a cliff overlooking the Feather River.
There is limited wi fi but with a walk half a mile toward Graeagle one can pick up a signal.
Our cabin had a manual with information about the lodging but also the surrounding area including Graeagle and Blairsden. The hosts live onsite, but I wasn't aware of that until by accident I met Janet Silver, so the hosts pretty much left us to ourselves. However, I did need some help figuring out one issue and while we were out, they took care of it for us.
It is a short walk down to the river, past the host's residence and across the railroad tracks. It's a beautiful spot. And the prices were very reasonable. They do allow dogs and even leave sheets and covers for the furniture. Dogs must not get on the beds. We brought our own dog blankets for the furniture in the living area.
I hope I get to stay here again, it was a treat.

Perfect getaway
My spouse and I were looking for a romantic getaway and we found it with this cabin! What a perfect, quiet location. There were many hiking trails and beautiful scenic areas on the property for sitting and relaxing, The cabin was immaculate and so cute with antique touches and details that made it so quaint and comfortable. Janet thought of everything the traveler might need or want. From the shampoo and conditioner to the spices in the kitchen to the guidebook in the entryway! It is clear that lots of love is put into the cabin and the property and we will definitely be staying again!

Relaxing stay at the Little Feather cabin
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful stay at the Little Feather cabin. The cabin is so charming, cozy and immaculate! We loved all the vintage features that took us back in time. The cabin was perfect for the two of us, but I can actually see that cabin being great for a family with a couple of children as well. The property was so beautiful and we enjoyed how serene it was, yet close to town. We really appreciated the cabin notebook with maps and recommendations for hiking and restaurants and used it frequently. Also, appreciated the more natural brands of soap and other products in the cabin. Janet and Rich were the most welcoming hosts and extremely helpful and made sure that they were available if needed. We had never been to this area before and enjoyed it so much! We are so happy to discover this beautiful cabin and property and can't wait to return. Thank you again Janet and Rich!

Feather River Charm w/ easy town access
Cabin was completely as advertised, well appointed. Gracious hosts who were friendly yet respected your space. 'Little Feather' cabin would be tight for four adults, ok for 2 plus a child on futon. 7 minute walk down steep hill to.river, many small beaches to yourselves. Dont miss Brewery Lair 3 miles away w many digs!

Our Graeagle stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The cabins themselves were perfect for our family group, the setting with the trails and nearby river was a daily joy, and Janet could not have been a friendlier or more responsive proprietor. We are already looking forward to our next stay at the cabins.

Great cabin getaway!
Great cabin and beautiful location! Cabin very clean and spacious. Loved the bathtub - so big!! The bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed sitting by the wood burning stove. We were there during a winter storm November weekend and can report the cabin environment is very comfortable. Greatly appreciate the owners' help with navigating the area during the winter storm conditions and keeping the property plowed well! Most of all we appreciated that the property was pet friendly!
