About this house rental
Welcome to our house!!! My family would love for your family to come and experience what it is like to live in the 'ur-burbs' - or the urban suburbs during the 2023 Summer. We are located in West Roxbury, which is the last neighborhood in Boston and is filled with public servants, baseball games and local festivals. We truly love it here and summer is the best time to visit New England!! This house was built in 1880 and maintains all original hardwood and a beautifully restored stained glass window. 2022 Renovation placed recessed lighting throughout the house in addition to adding two full bathrooms while also fully renovating the existing one. You can have fun trying to find the house on our antique map of the area, located in the foyer:)
Do you want to take your family on a vacation and not keen on squeezing into a 400 sf hotel room? Not quite sure you want to make the move from the city to the burbs? Come try our house out!! Amazing family-oriented neighborhood next to a park/playground, Starbucks and tons of eating options!
Boston has so much to offer in the Spring and Summer! The 2019 US News and World Report even ranked Boston as THE NUMBER ONE summer destination in the USA!!! As the leaves and grass begin to grow, Boston's parks put on an unforgettable show of color, complementing the historic architecture. A walk along the city's Freedom Trail doubles as a foliage tour. It's a great time to visit Boston's Faneuil Hall Marketplace or take a stroll through the gorgeous indoor courtyard of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. For sports fans, the Red Sox are back in town!! No better way to enjoy Boston than a game at Fenway Park.
A trip north of Boston to Kittery, Maine, will provide plenty of great shopping opportunities at the Kittery Outlets and maybe a stop in Portmsouth, NH? North of Boston also features Salem, which provides a very educational experience about colonial New England. South of Boston, Cape Cod in the summer is made for a trip to the beach. More history awaits at Plymouth! There are so many things to do, and when you include the surrounding areas of Boston, its amazing!
This Victorian house in the Bellevue Hill neighborhood, built in 1880 features all original woodwork and a hand carved staircase. 7500 square foot lot, which can lead to lots of lazy BBQs for you! ***Huge complete 2022 Renovation - complete with two new bathrooms, a new driveway, recessed lighting throughout, Kemper Cabinets, Jenn-Air Professional appliances and white quartz countertops.
Included in the price is professional yard workers and a bi-monthly house cleaning service. We have a ton of kids toys. We have scooters, bikes - you name it. Our backyard has a big patio, a grill and a firepit (gas) for lots of family fun:)
I would like to make and potential renters aware that this listing is our home, it is not a second property or investment property - so it isn't *that* kind of rental. We have stayed at lots of Homeaway rentals ourselves, so just wanted to let you all know that. It is not pristine, but it is a huge, beautiful, historic house which we love:)
Also, Spring/early summer in Boston can either be warm and in the 80s or freezing and in the 30s. If it is cold, we will make our best attempt to keep the house heated to functional degree (around 70ish) but keep in mind these old Victorian homes are super porous and heat just leaks out. We also do not have central air-conditioning which is quite normal for these parts, but a surprise to those that live in places where it is expected. Also, although we have an original fireplace, it is truly original and therefore not functional:)
Please let me know if you have any questions at all - we want you to have a great time visiting this amazing city!

This is our second stay here and it was as good as the first. Great location! The house is happily lived in with beautiful family photos on the walls, but very welcoming to guests. Walking distance from the YMCA and nice parks. Kristen is very responsive.

This was our second stay in the home. So, needless to say, we really enjoy this property. Kristen, the owner, is very attentive, personable and thoughtful. We had quite an exhaustive drive from GA and she offered to pick up grocery essentials for us. The home is well appointed and spacious. There were 5 in our group, 2 adults and 3 children. It was appropriately cooled w/ fans and window unit ACs. Our twins busied themselves with the toys, crafts and books. The previous trip, there were 7 of us, 2 adults and 5 children, w/ ample space for us all.
The home, for the most part, was clean and tidy; however, this time the bathtub was dirty. So that's the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. But I will say this, when I informed Kristen, she was very apologetic and promptly returned the cleaning deposit. Even with that issue, we would definitely stay at this property again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home. The home is clean, well appointed and in a nice neighborhood. Kristen was easily accessible through text and email for the few questions we had upon arrival. The toys, books, crayons were a big hit with our 4yo twins. The weather was, well you know Boston, so we did not venture to the backyard. But if we had, there’s a grill, fire pit and plenty of room to enjoy the outdoors. The house was spacious enough for our family of seven. There’s a grocery store conveniently located 3 minutes away, so we were able to get the grocery shopping done right after our arrival. Would definitely like to stay here again. Thanks Kristen!

We really enjoyed staying at this house. We thought it matched Kristen’s (the owner) description very accurately.
Kristen was a great hostess. She was very responsive and set up the house for our visit very thoughtfully — putting up little signs here and there so we knew where things were.
Next time we visit Boston we would definitely stay there again!

My family and I stayed here over Labor Day and we just loved it. We are new to HomeAway and Kristen really went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable both before we arrived and after. We peppered her with questions (too many I am afraid) and she was so gracious in helping us get prepared. The house was beautiful and my wife loved the original stained glass and woodwork. Our kids (7 and 5) had a great time playing with all the toys and board games. There were probably more than a hundred books for the kids to read but we didn't get around to them! It was a nice touch that there were probably a dozen guidebooks/books about Boston for us to look through. Very helpful and interesting!
Being close to a playground was a great benefit for the kids and close to the commuter rail we used to get into downtown. I really don't think this house has a downside at all, but I guess if there was one it would be that you really have to check the commuter rail/train/bus schedule to make sure you catch it. Service was slow on Sundays, but we just ended up using Uber and it was fine. There were always Uber cars around, so that was never a problem. Sometimes that was cheaper than the commuter rail anyways.
I would recommend it without any reservation for families with kids and hope to come back in the future. Thanks for a great time!!

The home... and it really did feel like home...has a wonderful kitchen and plenty of space for family get-togethers. The classic wood floors, elegant staircase, and authentic wood trim add an atmosphere of quality and refinement. Our grandchildren loved all the toys! The back yard was very nice. The house is close to the bus so you could get to a T station . . .so it was easy to get anywhere in Boston. We had a great time. The house was exactly as represented.

I was a little disappointed with the house. There was no central air and only 2 fans in the house. No ceiling fans ether. There was only one bedroom to big enough to sleep adults the other were very small.Only one tv in the house with no direct tv or any other cable.I thought I paid way too much for what I got.

Wonderful place to relax a bit between the sometimes busyness of sightseeing. We spent four days in Boston and drove to the various locations from here. With the GPS was very easy to find the home each day. Would highly recommend especially for families coming to the Boston area.

The home was very nice and had plenty of room for our family of 7. The owner was extremely nice and communicated all necessary information in a timely manner. Was also very helpful in providing answers to questions about the area since we are not familiar with Boston.

This is a beautiful house, absolutely love the hand carved stairway and original details. Lots of toys and games and there is a huge playground just a block away. Would recommend and plan to stay when we visit next!
