About this house rental
On the shore of beautiful Squam Lake in Kesumpe Cove, this property is perfect for a large group such as a family reunion. There are 6 bedrooms, including a five-bed "bunk" room. This is a six generation rustic family camp built in the 20's with a large addition in the early 60's. There is no insulation and minimal additional heat so stays in early spring and fall can get chilly.
For boating, there is a shared dock with two dedicated boat slips. This is a W shaped dock with 3 fingers 6 x 40, the center finger is common use and the Camp Swan guests have use of a very large secure inside slip and the outside dock edge. The depth is suitable for nearly any vessel you would bring to this lake. We have docked a 26 foot vintage Chris Craft with no problems. Bring your own boat, or rent from one of several marinas in town.
Stay close and enjoy the call of the loons from the screened porch or venture further down the lake. You can swim off the docks to the nearby raft. Across the main road enjoy a hike on the Sandwich Range or take a short drive to Rattlesnake Mountain for amazing views of the lake from the rock face. Many great restaurants within a short drive. A popular area for biking as well. For children, the Squam Lakes Science Center is only one mile down the road.
We prefer backgammon, board games or puzzles while at the lake, but ROKU TV and Wi Fi are available. The town of Holderness is just 1 mile away for shopping.
Nearby attractions include Lake Winnipesauke, the White Mountains, with hiking along the Appalachian Trail, and outlet shopping in North Conway.
The Squam Lakes are well-known for magnificent mountain scenery and unspoiled beauty. Encompassing 7,700 acres of clear water and 65 miles of shoreline, the Lakes Region is a wonderful environment to experience a summer of unforgettable memories. Fishing, sailing, and canoeing are right off your doorstep.

This was everything you could ask for in a lake house on beautiful Squam Lake. Everything was clearly communicated from booking to check-in and all the instructions for our stay. The amenities were just what we needed and we already miss swimming in the Lake. Thank you Susan and George!

We stayed here for a Sept wedding with 8 family members. The house was great, clean and well furnished in old Squam camp style. The owners were very friendly and always available. Overall a great stay.
Be advised that there is no dishwasher! A problem when there are 8 people. Not disclosed earlier.

We thoroughly enjoyed our second stay at Camp Swan. Susan and George are wonderful hosts and provide a spacious, well maintained, well outfitted large rustic camp on Squam Lake. We enjoyed boating, relaxing, and spending good time with family and friends.

The Alvord Camp was ready and waiting for our week on Squam. The house was clean, tidy and very welcoming - as usual! Always a pleasure to stay here and we look forward to booking again next year!

Yes, my nearly 4 year old caught a 2 lb bass with a Snoopy rod right off the end of the dock! Very classic place with a very nice camp feel to it. Great living room fireplace but didn't need it this week because we were blessed with really great weather.
House is large enough for our mixed group of 13 with ages from 2.5 to 75. Nice upgrade this year is the double fridges in the kitchen with ice making capability. Screened porch with another upgrade of more comfy porch furniture is key to enjoy the evening without the bugs.
Located on Big Squam less than a mile as the crow flies to the Squam channel connecting to Little Squam makes it convenient for boat gas and the General Store if you need.
This was our 5th year with our great hosts and will continue in perpetuity if they let us. Great spot, big house, nice reactive hosts, all the things you need to have a relaxing vacation. Our family has been vacationing on Squam for 44 consecutive years. Of all the places we've stayed, this home is one of the best!

We love our two weeks at the Alvord’s and they do not disappoint. The house is always clean and ready for us. They always have improvements from the year before. And they are so easy to deal with. Feels like going to a family cottage not one we rent. Can’t wait for next year.

The owners communicate so well and are so caring! Camp Swan was a wonderful experience for us, a family of 5 including a teenager. We visited in early October and experienced cooler temperatures so we built fires in the evening to keep us warm, although the rooms do have individual heaters. The location was so peaceful and we loved walking outside and onto the dock with our morning coffee and to look at the moon in the evenings even if it was 37 degrees! The Camp has many rooms and beds to accommodate families and friends. The driving time to the Flume and Basin was just under an hour. The car ride in the fall was beautiful and was definitely worth it. If you need space and want to be outside of the bustling city, stay here for a wonderful outdoor retreat!

We had a wonderful time at George and Susan's camp on Squam Lake. The home is spacious, clean, full of character, and ideally located on the lake. George and Susan were excellent hosts, answering our questions before out stay. We look forward to staying there again!

The lake house accommodated my family of 13 easily even when the rain kept us indoors for a day. The house had everything one needed for the week. We love the large washer/dryer and large refrigerator. We hope to return in the future.

We had a great week on the lake and everyone enjoyed our time at the Alvord house. The cabin was cozy with lots of room to spread out, great lake views and quite. Our week started with hot weather but the fans located throughout the house and bedrooms kept us cool and comfortable! We've already booked for next year and cant't wait to be back on Golden Pond!

It’s been a fabulous casual week with hiking, water sports, theme nights and dinner teams. But the location on the lake as well as the Camp Swan amenities made the week easy and fun. Working with the host family has been a delight!

Large, comfortable, well-appointed building directly on Squam Lake. Highlights include innumerable chairs, comfortable big beds, superb cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, long very welcoming porch, three docks, excellent boat access. Far from road noise. Welcoming and very informative little yellow notes from the owners everywhere. It was wonderful to be in a well loved home!! I would have welcomed a handrail on the ramp to the dock.

Camp Swan is quintessential Squam Lake. The Avlords offer a seven generation family camp, stone fireplace, knotty pine walls, braided rugs, large screened porch overlooking the lake, docks, swim raft with plenty of space for all. Comfortable and timeless. Plenty of room for a family gathering. The "new" parts of this camp are 1970s, so don't go there if you looking for "shiny and new." AS one would expect, it shows some age from family use over generations, but Susan and George do a great job of delivery you a very clean, well organized and well equipped camp the is walk in and enjoy ready! We'd return in a skinny minute!

We had an amazing late August week at Camp Swan. Warm water, plentiful sun, endless family time, evening games and echoes of the Loons to wake you in the morning and to say sweet dreams to you in the evening.
We wanted for nothing. The house and owners were most accommodating.
A very enjoyable week we will cherish for many years to come.
Many thanks to you Susan and George for sharing your cozy home with us!

Great family week
Three generations shared special time together at this spacious home on Squam Lake. The location is private and quiet. There was plenty of room for dining and for playing board games. The long galley kitchen accommodated several of us at a time and it was well stocked with needed items. Linens and towels provided were abundant and having the washer/dryer for the children was very useful. The bathrooms were very nice and the bedrooms quite large. The owners were available and communicated promptly. We look forward to our next vacation at this property.

Our family group (11 to 13 family through the week) completely enjoyed our vacation at the Alvord Swan house. We consider the location on Squam, along with the dock, raft & porch the absolute best & hope to find a week for next summer.
