About this house rental
This lovely lakefront cottage has been a favorite family gathering place of ours for 30 years. It sits on picturesque Lower Goose Pond in the heart of the Berkshires.
The property is situated on a dead end street of a private lake community. The house is just over 1,000sf with a deck overlooking a large yard and the lake. The lakefront yard is big enough for a family game of whiffle ball or to throw a frisbee around. The first floor has the kitchen, living room (with a couch to sleep 5), a full bathroom, and a bedroom with a full size bed. Ascend a wooden spiral staircase to access the spacious master bedroom and bath. Outdoor furniture and a gas grill off the kitchen make outdoor dining easy. The kitchen is stocked with pots and pans, as well as dishes and other essentials. We provide bed linens and bath towels, and there is a washing machine and dryer in the basement.
There is a dock on the property, and two kayaks and a canoe are available for your use. There is a public boat launch nearby if you want to bring your own powerboat, sailboat or jet ski. Clear water makes for great swimming. The main lake is connected to Upper Goose by a small estuary. Approximately 30-45 minutes by kayak or canoe, Upper Goose is environmentally protected and free from development – just the lake, surrounding mountains, and unspoiled nature.
Please note that the cottage is not winterized, so it is available in spring, summer, and fall.
The cottage is walking distance to the Appalachian Trail, and a short drive to Lee (close enough to bike to), the Outlets, Tanglewood, and all that the Berkshires has to offer. We hope you will make this your base for a summer vacation, and relax, enjoy the lake, the Berkshires, and the peaceful setting as much as we do!

The best view.
A bit noisy location, but otherwise lovely lake, great to have kayaks, floats, canoe, the best view imaginable.

Our stay was delightful. House is well equipped and comfortable. Kayak to Upper Pond to see the sunrise. Swim in the clear lake in the afternoon. Relax on the deck and watch the boaters and kayakers go by. Marvelous!

My fiancé and I frequently visit the Berkshires, but this was our first trip out there heading into the summer months, as well as our first time at this particular location. While we've always felt the Berkshire area is beautiful to begin with, when arriving at the house on Goose Pond, we knew that we were somewhere special. As soon as you pull into the driveway(plenty of parking), the view of the lake right off the back yard will put a smile on your face... perfect spot.
The lake itself is pristine; very clear and was something that we enjoyed immensely. Given it was rather hot during part of our stay, we were cooling off in the lake often. Between kayaking, swimming, and just lounging on the inflatable tubes(all provided with the property), we were happy campers! The lake offered picturesque sunrises and sunsets as well.
The house and the yard were in ideal condition. There are good-size front and back yards that are well-kept. There is also a gas grill that worked great for barbecue. And, since the house has a deck off the back overlooking the lake, it ended up being our preferred dinner spot(though there are plenty of restaurants nearby). The house itself was clean, with plenty of room and comfort for the three of us(our dog included). The kitchen and 2 bathrooms had all the amenities we needed and it's a short drive to the grocery store, which was convenient. The open-concept dining room and living room had plenty of space and light, with a glass sliding door out to the deck and lake side. There are 2 bedrooms, though we only needed the master bedroom, which has a sliding glass window/doorway leading out to a small landing overlooking the water.
We've been to and stayed at other places in the Berkshires; our week-long stay here was definitely our favorite. Between the location of the house on Goose Pond, the peaceful surroundings, access to other spots of interest, and just the overall comfort and quality of our stay was top-notch. We're already looking forward to our return!

Can't wait to return.
It was perfect! Exactly what we were looking for. Access to the water and water toys (kayaks, a canoe, and paddle board) were all wonderful distractions. We rarely left the house which was smartly designed to take advantage of the wonderful lake views seen through sliding glass doors from the living room with its knotty pine walls and the large and airy second story bedroom. While there was no air conditioning, the house was built in a way that allowed for wonderful cross-breezes. Neighbors were friendly and the nearby boat launch was not an issue for us city dwellers. We would wake up each morning to mist on the lake, sit on the deck, and enjoy a leisurely cup of coffee. (There are three coffee makers and one grinder available in the well-stocked kitchen.) When we arrived we noticed that microwave was not working and Gary, the extraordinarily responsive and highly communicative owner, had a replacement sent in a matter of hours. We also loved grilling on the brand new Weber gas grill.

Lovely get away
We had a really great time. The place and location were better than expected. We did a little of everything - boating, swimming, hikes, museums and area walking. We found the famous neighbor and her chickens too! We have never used a service or rented a place like this and would definitely do it again.

Great stay in the Berkshires!
We had a great time staying on Goose Pond in the Berkshires! The owner, Gary, was responsive to all emails and a pleasure to deal with. The property itself is small but charming and was perfect for our requirements - we have a 6 and 4 year old. It is well stocked with cleaning supplies. We kayaked, canoed, sailed and paddle boarded while we were there - the kids really enjoyed swimming in the shallow, clear water off the dock. We also went hiking in the local area - it's a short drive to Monument Mountain, Great Barrington and Stockington which all have lovely downtown areas. We would have lingered under different circumstances, but as it was we mainly stuck to the great outdoors! The Appalachian Trail passes by Upper Goose Pond and we walked sections of it over the week.
All in all, a great location. You can't beat being directly on the lake! Thanks to Gary for making our stay an enjoyable one. We hope to be back in the future!

Just got back from a fantastic week at Goose Pond. Kayaking first thing in the morning on calm water, there’s nothing like it especially when you’re the only one out there. The house is great and well equipped. The location is excellent because it’s just minutes from the highway but away from the hustle and bustle of life. On a rainy day it’s two minutes to the outlet mall. We tried Chez Nous restaurant for take out as well as Morgan House (twice). Both were very good. We hiked Tyringham Cobble with our lab on a very hot day. At least there was lots of shade.
Since we had our dog with us, we stayed at the house more than we would have if we hadn’t brought him but he loved playing in the water and that made us happy.
We have no complaints about this rental and are seriously considering coming back next summer.
You won’t be disappointed!

Really Great Cottage and Lake -- We Can't Wait to Return! Fantastic Vacation!
Ideal location-- close to activities/amenities while in a quiet, rural setting that feels a million miles away.
The lake is perfect for any water activities you could want. Clear, clean, warm water for swimming, paddle-boarding, kayaking, etc. We loved that this end of the lake is a no-wake zone and not very busy. The small, nearby boat launch was mostly used for kayaks, canoes and the occasional motor boat. Even on the busiest days, it really wasn't very busy and never interfered with our enjoyment of the property/lake. Very pleasant with paddle board, 2 kayaks, canoe, floats on site.
The cottage itself is more attractive and spacious inside and out than the pictures portray. Overall, a nice balance of rustic simplicity complemented by modern updates. Lots of green natural barriers between neighbors, with a good balance of sun and shade throughout the property. Brought a portable badminton set we put up in the back yard, with plenty of room to spare. We enjoyed relaxing on the spacious deck and hanging out in lawn chairs closer to the lake.
Inside, a well-equipped kitchen opens onto a great room, with a full bath and small bedroom also on the first floor. Upstairs is an open, airy suite with flexible sleeping (king or two twins) lots of closet/drawer space, large bath. Both floors have tons of windows for great natural light, views and cross breezes. Furniture is very comfortable, rooms well lit, bathrooms nice. Although no A/C, fans and window blinds help keep the house surprisingly comfortable in hot weather. We were very pleased with the space and quite comfortable.
Wifi great, even had a signal down by the dock! No TV or streaming service, so bring books, games and downloads on your tablet. Cell service is spotty, use internet voice calling/messaging if your phone is set up for it, or the landline.
We loved taking walks in the neighborhood. It's a half mile to the end of the private road and smells deliciously of pine forest. Neighbors are friendly and nice.
Things we enjoyed: hiking Tyringham Cobble, Tanglewood , Jacob's Pillow, Great Barrington and Lenox downtown shops, Get Lit bookstore in Lenox, Lenox Patisserie in Great Barrington for macarons and pastries, Guido's gourmet market, Betty's Pizza in Lenox for excellent fresh topped pizza.
The owner was super easy to work with and very responsive. If you have questions, just ask! Can't say enough about how wonderfully he treated us!

My husband and I spent 2 great weeks here, exploring the Berkshires and enjoying the lake. The house is small, but in a perfect location (if you don’t mind the nearby boat launch, which did not bother us at all). You can easily drive to Tanglewood, museums, hikes and restaurants. The upstairs master bedroom is very large (though the downstairs bedroom, with a full bed, is very small). We like to cook (there is a GREAT gourmet food store with awesome fruit and vegetables, Guido’s, in nearby Pittsfield and Great Barrington) and the kitchen is small but very well equipped (even had a coffee grinder)! The lake is great for swimming, as it is shallow for the first 10 yards or so, so it’s great for kids. Also nice for kayaking and paddle boarding, which come with the house (plus a canoe we did not get to). Nice deck looking out at the lake. Owner was very responsive when we had questions. The setting is as pretty as it is in the pictures.

Wonderful small but cozy lakeside house
Couldn't have had a more wonderful time in this cozy lakeside house. Beautiful sunrise in master bedroom every morning. Kayaks, canoe and life jackets available to enjoy Goose Pond. Local town of Lee was a delight with great restaurants and cafes. Even got my haircut at the local barber shop!

Great cottage on a perfect lake!
My family and I had such a wonderful stay. The cottage was so comfortable and clean. It had all we needed to enjoy our time there. It's so close to all that the Berkshires has to offer, but really feels like a special retreat on its own. We LOVED waking up each morning to the beautiful sparkling lake! We hope to be back next summer!

Relaxing stay on Goose Pond
Goose Pond is peaceful. I was there on a summer weekend and enjoyed the cool nights, the warm afternoons, and swims in the clear water. The cottage is well-equipped. A great stay.

nice house on a great lake
We stayed in the house for a week, and had a great time.
House is not very big, but nice, clean and comfortable. There is a nice spacious master bedroom on the second floor, and a small room with a full bed on the first. A big porch overlooking the lake where we had breakfast and lunch every day if weather allowed.
We did not expect to find such a great lake in the middle of Berkshires. The fishing was great, and while fishing we were watching great bald eagles flying very close to us. The water in the lake is very clean. The lake is very good for kayaking as well. There were 2 kayaks and canoe available in the basement.
Something to be aware of - the cell phone coverage is spotty, but wifi at the house provides connection for internet and email access; the house is very close to public boat access so sometimes it gets rather noisy. We are from NYC so it did not bother us.
We really liked the place and were thinking about going back in the future.
