The house was very clean when we arrived. Plenty of space for all 10 adults and 1 dog.
We enjoyed our stay very much and had a long overdue family beach trip. The pool was nice to cool off in after a long beach day, two outdoor showers to rinse the sand off. Neighborhood was nice and quiet with that small town feeling. Beach was not overcrowded like some of the commercialized beachs. It was so peaceful. Would recommend and stay again.

Our family had an amazing stay at this property! Cleanliness, location, pool, hot tub, pool table, all the amenities, close to beach access and pier. Walking distance from DQ, Mirros cafe, and paddle-boarding. Pet friendly! Our Golden fur-nephew and our two chihuahuas also had the BEST time! Thank you for your hospitality!

The house had plenty of space for our party of 7 adults, a teen and two infants. The pool, hot tub and billiard room were great for when we were not out and about. Kitchen and grill were great for meal prep. The central location of Waves makes it more convenient to visit north and south OBX attractions. Sunday check-in/out avoids the Saturday rush. Had a great week.

The area was perfect for our beach trip with extended family. There were plenty of beach fun accessories available to use which we also left a few additional things behind for the next guests since they will not be used. I really loved the pool area very relaxing. I had no issues at all and it was a nice stress free time with my family.
Alex shrimp shack was phenomenal yum. Check it out
Also so much to do and see there and the beaches are stunning.
Thanks for making the house Available we loved it

This was a great home to stay in. I have spent many summers in the OBX area and have always stayed in the Nags Head and KDH areas. This was our first time further south in the Hatteras area, and I can say we fell in love with the area. Steve was available at anytime as well as it was nice to have the care taker next door as well. The home is beautifully laid out the teens were able to their own floor while the adults had theirs. The pool table was great for night time activities and when the weather didn't allow for us yo go outside. The home is located perfectly between the sound and the ocean. I would recommend this location to anyone. Will for sure book again.

This is your typical ideal beach house with everything you need. The caretaker, Misty, lives next door and is wonderful! Plenty of outside deck space to relax. The pool and hot tub were great!

House was just as pictured...no surprises.
We stayed for a week and the weather was not great for several days. Being on a sliver of land out in the ocean is easily affected by wind and weather.
BTW...kite flying is highly recommended!
The owner had the house set up for just such days. We played 8 ball in the separate pool room, enjoyed the nice outdoor swimming pool then jumped into the covered room hot tub with our favorite drinks.
This is a very nice, large place for 6 adults and their children and dogs...we loved the large multi-level decks. A nice propane flat grill was used to prepare some awesome meals in the well stocked kitchen (Food Lion had some great food for preparing and owner provided all necessary cooking utensils...Food Lion was only 20 minutes away).
The location is ideal because you can travel north or south and enjoy the restaurants, shopping and fantastic sites.
I highly recommend this location for its reasonable price, location, clean, large house and the Owner providing puzzles, games, books...etc. He literally thought of most everything.
A charming house and neighborhood with a 5-minute walk to the beach or sound.
We hope to go back again!

Another great stay at Life is Golden. Although the weather didn’t cooperate we still enjoyed our vacation in the OBX . The house was just as shown in the listing , Grill and deck furniture have been upgraded since our last stay. No complaints and would definitely recommend.

Upon entry our friends child found a condom and underwear. The house looked like it had no house keeping done besides sweeping everything under the beds.
4.0 / 10.0
The home was nice for our extended family vacation with grandparents, adults, and children. The home is in a good location about 15 houses down from the beach access. The street before this one is for a campground. We appreciated that the kitchen was stocked well, linens and extra blankets were provided, and the washer and dryer were great.
There were some small issues like a burned area on the kitchen counter, wine cooler didn't stay cold, some broken toilet paper holders, the stove lights flickered (but it worked fine), for example. The house temperature was set at 72, but we were all literally sweating so we turned the AC temp down for the stay. I messaged the owner when we arrived to let him know of these issues. His response was unpleasant and he indicated that this was the first he heard about the issues, and it seemed as though we were being blamed, although we had just arrived.
We have a claim submitted with VRBO now because we received several very unpleasant messages from the owner after our visit. He charged us to replace a thermostat that was working fine when we left the home. I would understand if there was an issue and it needed servicing, but charging to replace the entire thermostat without showing a bill caused us to file a claim with VRBO. Hopefully, this will be resolved soon, as there was certainly no bad intentions or disregard for the home on our part, and I am happy to pay for any legitimate claims of damage.
Overall review is this is a nice place with a difficult owner.

Positives: The location of the house was decent. It was super quiet which was nice and the house certainly served us fine during our stay. Many amenities to help keep people active and entertained as well as anything you may need kitchen-wise.
Negatives: The house itself is very tired and worn out. With paying a mortgage payment for a weeks stay, I honestly expected there to be a bit more care involved with the property. The pool area was littered with pine needles and overgrown trees and shrubs which seemed to attract ants and the lovely OBX mosquitos. The carport was like a dumping ground of unwanted and broken beach paraphernalia from previous guests with broken boogie boards, rusted out and broken beach chairs. There was a broken screen and other random items scattered throughout the yard area near the steps to get up/down from the various decks. The outdoor showers had guests leftover soap bars, hair ties, clips left inside. Inside the home there was a lot of dust with the fake plants holding most of it. If you have allergies, I suggest bringing your medication to help ease the congestion. Some kitchen cabinets are falling off the hinges which made opening and closing them difficult without feeling like we were going to break them. Some of the windows also seemed to not latch or be closed properly. I noticed at least one window with the latches broken and the one window in the upstairs king mbr I think was open which I tried to latch shut but the latches wouldn’t move and again - didn’t want to break it or force it. It was instructed to not change the temp of the fridge which was unfortunate because some of our stuff had gotten icy. The deli drawer was broken when we arrived so couldn’t put anything in it which led to issues trying to keep things cold between two families. Lastly, watch toes and feet of big guys and little guys alike on the decks. There were some nailheads that were popped up from the boards and could be a tripping hazard.
Points to note: Beware (not at all the fault of the homeowners) of Tuesday’s and Friday’s between 4-5am when the trash trucks come through. Almost a guarantee to be woken up! Bring paper products trash bags and soap. We’ve staying in some houses that include these items and figured since linens and towels were provided these would be to.
Bottom line, the house is tired and could do with a proper professional cleaning and some major TLC. However it served us well enough for our week stay in OBX.

The naming of your home is very appropriate. We went to Hatteras for a destination wedding. The weather held up for us and everyone had a very quiet and relaxing vacation. The beach was just a short walk as was the DQ. We rented a Dune Buggy while we were there. The weather was also perfect for flying kites. Thank you again for sharing your home with us.

We were more than happy with our stay here and would be so happy to book it again. The pictures do not do the house justice, and it was so well stocked with everything we needed from the kitchen to the linen to the pool and beach supplies. The proximity to the beach was great, and of course Waves Market—a must for us multiple times each visit. The hot tub and pool were perfect and very well kept. Steve was very responsive to all of our questions almost immediately. All in all a wonderful vacation.

The house was super comfortable and clean when we checked in. Steve provides literally everything needed for families; lots of pool/beach toys, washer/dryer, close access to beach and Sound. I never felt as if I had to be ultra careful with kids and dogs for fear of breaking something... It was a great house.. Enjoy

We had a wonderful stay! Everything was as described. Fantastic location with a short walk to the beach. We had toddlers and babies with us and the walk was easy for everyone to do. There were lots of amenities provided: beach chairs, blankets, umbrellas. Conveniently located close to the sound as well. Pool and hot tub were enjoyed by all. Kitchen is fully stocked with everything needed and the grills are great. Several restaurants nearby as well. Pool table was fun for the teens in the evenings. Would definitely stay here again!

Overall it was a nice house in a great neighborhood. Road is quiet. Walking distance to the beach and Dairy Queen. Pool is small but it was perfect for the younger kids.

Life is Golden was a very nice stay for our family and two Grandchildren (9 adults, 2 kids and 2 golden retrievers). Plenty of room, well-appointed kitchen, cozy living room and dining area for the family to get together, eat, play games. Nice decks on two levels and we liked the screened in hot tub. Five minute walk to a nice beach, and a short drive to the ORV access beaches between Salvo and Avon. Steve was easy to communicate with for questions prior to our trip and provided good suggestions where to go and what to do. The decor and theme of the property we enjoyed; you can tell this is a home and not just a rental!
