About this cabin rental
Conveniently located 10 miles from Cherokee NC and Bryson City NC; this very unique North Carolina Mountain Cabin was originally built to be a school house and now serves as an excellent place to host larger families while visiting the Smokies! You will most certainly find our rustic farmhouse style lodging peaceful and relaxing! As you begin the 3 mile drive from Smoky Mountain Country Club, and "civilization", up the winding gravel mountain road you can let all of your cares disappear. Once you pass the gates and arrive on the property, you will emerge out of the morning mountain fog and overhead trees to the delightful opening on which the property rests. Finished stretching your legs and taking in the mountain views? Head on inside!
The Upper Level has a wheelchair accessible front entrance. As you enter we hope you enjoy the signature Hive Lodge scent of local honey and 100% all-natural lemongrass essential oils. As you enter it's now your choice to have a seat in the living room or head directly to the screened in porch. Be careful because you may not get anything else done as you have a seat in one of the rocking chairs taking in the views and listening to the peaceful streams!
The Upper Level of our secluded mountain cabin features 5 bedrooms with 3.5 Baths each with a themed bedroom and custom hand-made art and decor. There are a total of 6 beds on the upper level. The Waterrock Knob bedroom features one queen bed and one twin bed that overlooks Newfound Gap, Waterrock Knob, and Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the distance. On clear nights you can lay in bed and see the stars or the moonlit mountain outlines. When you awake in the morning, allow the sunrise and the fading fog to clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective for the day. You will love waking up in this room! The waterfall themed bedroom also features a super comfy queen bed with local waterfalls displayed on the walls. The larger bathroom is located just outside the bedroom door and features two individual toilets spaces, a shower, and three vanities! The third bedroom has another queen bed and a twin bed as well. The Fontana Lake themed bedroom features the best views, a queen bed and shares a private entrance to the second bathroom which also features a toilet, shower and tub combo. Hand towels, wash cloths, bath towels, and linens are provided for you.
The Upper Level great room features two couches and multiple arm chairs providing a very comfortable space for watching your favorite streaming shows on the 55" Smart TV. There is also a desk area if you need to catch up on some work. You will absolutely love waking up and having coffee or a morning Yoga session in the all glass enclosed space overlooking Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The large Game Room is also on the Upper Level featuring a ping pong table, dart board, checkers, poker table, and Giant Jenga! There is also a kitchenette, additional bathroom, with sauna, in the Game Room. This is also where you use the covered exterior staircase to access the two levels. Please note there is no inside access as there would be with a traditional home(formerly a school).
The Lower Level features 3 very large bedrooms and 3 bathrooms with a total of 6 beds in the space. As you enter the spacious and fully equipped kitchen you can already picture cooking a great meal for your family in the space. The kitchen is complete with a stovetop, oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher, pots, pans, and all the basic cooking and eating utensils you would have at home. There is a built-in dining room table that can seat 14 persons with extra bar seats around the kitchen island. Just past the enormous rock fireplace head to the living room area for a relaxing time with your group or family members. There are two large couches, many comfortable single rocker chairs, and the ultimate custom made movie lounge seat complete with with a built in three sided coffee table. It's perfect for your family to watch sports or movies on the 70" SmartTV! Log in and watch all your favorite shows in the evening. You can enjoy a game of pool on our professional Brunswick billiards table or a game of giant Jenga!
Just off the Lower Level great room you will find a large bathroom complete with a shower and the Alum Cave themed bedroom. This room is always dark and a favorite of those who sleep in late. It features a queen memory foam mattress and is decorated with items from one of the most popular hikes and features in the National Park, Alum Cave. One of the best and can't miss Smoky Mountains attractions! Our "Mountain Views" bedroom is located on the opposite side of the house and features 2 queen beds with the bedroom overlooking Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the distance. There is also an exterior door that provides covered access to the Upper Level or perfect a way to sneak out to the hammocks at night! The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad themed bedroom features 2 hybrid memory foam queen beds as well as an adjoining bathroom. This room is equipped with room darkening shade and will be the quietest on the lower level; suitable for infants or little ones that need a more controlled environment to sleep. There is a third full bathroom on the lower level complete with our handmade sugar scrub. We provide wash cloths, linens, and makeup towels in all of our bathrooms for your use.
Ready to head outdoors? The outdoor space features a fire pit and chairs by the stream as well as a deck with tables and chairs. There are also several single hammocks for your use which offer some of the best views of the Smoky Mountains and the most relaxing napping areas on the property! You will also find the pond area overlooking the field below very relaxing as well. Please note there is no swimming in the pond. The Hive Lodge is perfect for your next family gathering in the North Carolina Smoky Mountains!
Over the past couple of years we have gained insight from our guests, friends, and family as to what exactly makes our North Carolina mountain cabin so special to them. We decided to list them for you!
* Large Family Space(Unlike many cabin rentals we do not overcrowd our spaces. We host our own families here and have thoughtfully laid out the interior for larger group sizes. You and your family will have plenty of space to spread out and even disappear to a quiet place on the property when needed).
* The Views(Phenomenal sunrises, quirky sunsets, all season views of Waterrock Knob, Newfound Gap and Great Smoky Mountains National Park)
* The Decor(My wife and I make all of the art, photography, and many of the furniture pieces ourselves. We want everything to be local, crafty, and add to our simple and relaxing goals for the cabin. We love the Smoky Mountains and we want to share that with all of our guests)!
* Seclusion(1.5 miles up a gravel road gets you a very secluded escape from normal life! After all, isn't that the point? The peaceful streams on both sides provide a nice ambient background noise on the porch or decks as well).
* Handicap Accessible - although there are no ADA approved handrails we are accessibility friendly. We have a level, wheelchair accessible entrance on each level. There is also a stand up shower on each level for those with mobility issues. The doorways on the lower level are very wide and the space is great for those in wheelchairs!

We spent days looking for the right place for a short stay in the mountains. My daughter had a gymnastics meet just 2 hours south of here and we wanted to spend some family time while we were all close. We finally landed on this wonderful place. We arrived late at night and we were slightly intimidated by the steep drive up however we all made it uo without 4x4 which was great. We were impressed by the size of the property and unique layout we had a great time exploring. We had a fire and thanks to the information provided by the host we had grabbed firewood before hand to make sure we didnt have to go searching around the property. We roasted smoars and the next day had a long awaited and needed resting day we got to take in the beauty of the land and enjoy each others company. We were expecting snow the next day the host contacted us that evening and explained the procedure and important information we were so happy to have a host that was helpful and kind. We had the best time building snowman and playing in the snow overall i would highly recommend this place we never left and had one of the best times 5 stars

We are a family of 17 with ages ranging from 3-71. I booked the Hive Lodge with hopes of our family being able to spend quality time together with plenty to do and not be crowded. This place did not disappoint. We all had plenty of bedrooms and space to lounge, eat and play. We had a ping pong tournament! It was so much fun. Prison city is nearby and we enjoyed ice cream and shopping in the quaint city. The grounds were nice with a fire-it that we used nightly. I would recommend The Hive Lodge for large families to come together.

The property was roomy for our group of 18. We could all get in the great room with our being in each others way. The drive up to the property was a little scary but thankfully I didn’t have to drive. The young folks thought nothing of it as they ventured out each day sometime several times. I’m 85 and could have done it but I didn’t thanks to my children.

We had our team here for a weekend retreat. Property was great and plenty of room for everyone. The views from the porch were amazing and the sound of the creeks were southing. Great weekend escape.

House was clean and had plenty of activities. Brian was very helpful with questions about the area. Would highly recommend!

This was the perfect place for our group of 18 ranging from 18mos to 65! Plenty of room and we didn't feel crowded at all! Outside fire put was perfect for smores after the Polar Express!

Enjoyable Stay
This is our second time staying at The Hive lodge. The first time was a few years ago and only a section of the upstairs was available. This time the entire lodge was open and it was great. We had 14 in our party and still had 2 rooms we did not use. There is plenty of room in the lodge as well as convenient parking. The lodge is very clean and plenty of amenities and supplies included. Having a nice yard area is defiantly a plus since most cabins don't have yard space. We enjoyed our stay and will defiantly be back.

Superb accommodations. Great hosts. A little steep for 2wd on gravel, but worth it.

Amazing cabin and host
This house is exactly what you’re looking for if you are in need of a getaway while still wanting to be close to the fun of a casino. There is more than enough space and Brian the host is super friendly and honest when it comes to setting expectations. Like other reviews, cell and internet service is spotty but we weren’t there to work or play on phones. We had no problems and hope to be back soon to the Hive!

It was a perfect family getaway! To be honest we didn't mind not having the wifi it was the perfect opportunity to hang out play some pool, board games, enjoy family time. Lots of room for everyone... very nicely decorated for Christmas too! We wanted to see snow and in our last day we got to see the dusting of snow :-) Brian was very responsive to any questions/concerns we had. Definitely recommend this house for your next family vacation.

Back in the mountains away from the noise! Huge cabin both lower and upper floors-great for everyone to enjoy playing pool, ping pong, huge Jenga blocks, checkers, Cd player, TV with sports, etc. Quiet and plenty of rooms and bathrooms for all of us. Huge kitchen and eating tables. We really enjoyed our stay.

This place was clean, secluded and in good condition. There's a ping pong table, pool table and corn hole boards to keep you entertained while hanging out. The kitchen is well stocked with whatever you need and there's plenty of places to sit and hangout for the whole crowd. We really enjoyed it and had a great time. Only drawback (very minor one) was that the wi-fi was a bit spotty but that's not surprising given the location. All in all I definitely recommend and would go back in a heart beat

The only reason we rated it a 4 stars is because the upstairs and downstairs are like different units and no connectivity from inside downstairs to upstairs. The other thing is the WiFi a couple of us needed to work a day on the trip and WiFi didn't help.
Other than the above it is a wonderful cabin for large group of people and the view in the morning is amazing. Plenty of space both inside and outside.
A couple of recommendations would be Fix the WiFi if possible and also have a few additional blankets both downstairs and upstairs.
Overall we are very happy, Brian was very helpful and we will rent it again in future.

I have rented places in this area for the last 10 years and I will say this has been the most negative.
..Two of the bedrooms had no privacy because you had to go through an upstairs and downstairs bedroom to get to the exterior stairs. Either you do not have two of the bedrooms or you have no stairway connection between the floors. Guests cannot be expected to allow traffic through their private bedrooms. Therefore, to go from one floor to the other, guests have to go outside down to parking area, up a steep drive way and across another parking area. With the two exit door rooms occupied, there is only one means of egress from each floor. This needs to be disclosed on the listing. It would have been a deal breaker for us.
..The screened porch upstairs is lovely, but there is no interior access to it. The downstairs porch had no furniture, so could not be used, although listing said it did.
..The ceiling fan in one room was so noisy it could not be used.
..The linens provided were just sheets and a coverlet the weight of the sheets. There were no blankets anywhere in the house for the cold natured guests.
..The kitchen and refrigerator were very small for the advertised 20 guests. We had to use our coolers for extra items.
...House is very dated and has stained carpet.
..Did love the dining room tables. Great for a large group.

The Hive is absolutely amazing! Clean, spacious, excellent area. We had 2 dogs with us, plenty of yard to walk them. The owners are super helpful, nice. We went golfing at Smoky Mountain Country Club, just a short drive. Excellent! The casino was an easy drive, fun.
The road up to the cabin was not bad, we had a cargo van. No problems.
We have nothing negative to write, all positive. Hope we can return someday.

Easily handled our family of 18. All ages were comfortable. Our only issues involved the WiFi, and only because 2 of our grandchildren had to be “in school” and a couple of adults had some work to do. Otherwise, everything was wonderful.

GREAT SECLUDED RETREAT!
GREAT SECLUDED RETREAT! TWO CREEKS RUN ALONG BOTH SIDES OF THE HOUSE TO GIVE THAT "WHITE NOISE" RELAXATION FEELING. PLENTY OF ROOM ALL OF OUR GUESTS, WE HAD 12 GUESTS. SPOKE WITH OWNER ABOUT THE PROPERTY AND HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF UPGRADING IT EVEN FURTHER FOR MORE SPACE AND FUN. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS SPOT FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR A RELAXING GETAWAY WHERE YOU JUST WANT TO HANG OUT ON THE PROPERTY MOST OF THE TIME!

Amazing
this property is big and spacious, it is perfect for big families. We stayed there and took our kids and grandchildren to the polar express. The drive was short and the loved playing outside once we were back to the property. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking also. We also sat around the fire pit on Saturday and roasted marshmallows the kids loved that also. Could not have ask for a better property.

Mountain Solitude
Great hidden gem for large families or group retreat. Up the mountain a little ways as advertised, but secluded and peaceful. Nice spot to unwind, relax and take in the mountain air.
