ShoreBreak cottage rises 25’ above the ocean on a dramatic cliff above perhaps one of the most beautiful beaches on Eleuthera known to locals as "Secret Beach". ShoreBreak cottage and Secret Beach are located on the Atlantic coastline of Eleuthera, 25 minutes from N. Eleuthera Airport (ELH) The quaint and authentically Bahamian Gregory Town is 2 miles to the North. All of the photos on this listing have been taken at ShoreBreak cottage and the “secret beach” below. Secret beach can only be accessed by Shorebreak and our new smaller neighboring property ShoreTing. Both houses can be rented together or independently. We don’t block access to secret beach. Life at ShoreBreak cottage is like taking a step back in time. You can plan a busy day of activities and experience the thrill of diving, snorkeling, fishing, surfing, and kayaking. Or for nature lovers, bring your Audubon nature guide book, take a walk and search for numerous varieties of butterflies and birds. Or better yet, you can choose to do nothing at all. Kick back, relax, and read a book and doze off in the afternoon with the symphony of the Atlantic lapping on the crystalline beach below. ShoreBreak cottage was created to be harmonious and respectful to its natural, untouched and exquisite surroundings. The vision for ShoreBreak was to embrace nature at its fullest and to escape the trappings of the modern world. No Television, no computer, no problem. (WiFi is available and cell phone and internet service access via international roaming).Nightly entertainment is courtesy of the Galaxy above. At ShoreBreak you enjoy quiet nights and fall asleep to the chorus of the ocean below only to dream of catching the Sunrise in the morning. Kiss the sky, smell the salt, and soak up the warmth of the sun on ShoreBreak’s oceanfront porch and deck. Just below our deck, walk down a short flight of a dozen stairs to find large boulders and unexplored caves. Direct access to this beach is limited to ShoreBreak cottage and our sister property “ShoreTing” and both properties can be rented together if available. The beach takes a shape and life of its own and consistently shifts, expands and retracts with the tide, wind and lunar cycles. We have seen the beach literally come and go for days at a time. This is the ocean and it always changes. It can be rough at times and no lifeguard on duty so one must exercise caution. And don’t forget to enjoy our outdoor shower if just for a quick rinse after coming up from the beach. ShoreBreak was built in a traditional and cozy Bahamanian style by a 3rd generation local builder who took great pride in his craft. The vernacular based outpost takes its design cues from the older gabled wood cottages on Harbour Island. White washed locally sourced cypress wraps the interior and creates a warm feel. The build was overseen by an internationally renown architect to ensure aesthetic integrity was true to form. A central living space is bookended by 2 ocean front bedrooms each with a queen bed. Both bedrooms have their own private en suite bathroom. A soaring vaulted ceiling with 2 lofts. PLEASE NOTE - the lofts are used for storage and not part of the rental, only the down stairs 2 bedrooms. ShoreBreak is ideal for 2 couples or just a honeymoon for 2. The cottage is a bit reminiscent of a wooden ship and was built in the spirit of the sea, adventure, exploration and the frontier. It boasts beautiful re-purposed mahogany yacht doors and brass hardware in the bedrooms as well as portholes salvaged from a pre war passenger liner. All of the sliding doors facing the ocean were sourced from a resort in the FL Keys that no longer stands. Secret Beach is a treasure and ShoreBreak was built to be sensitive and have as minimal an impact on its natural surroundings as possible. It has the ability to alternate between both grid and solar power making it fully self sustainable. The cottage was designed to take advantage of the cooling ocean breezes, but also offers modern comforts such as AC which is in the bedrooms. We ask our guests to always be mindful of their energy consumption and water usage and to leave as minimal a footprint as possible. ShoreBreak is provisioned with your basic needs, bed sheets, towels, utensils, cooking amenities, a built in gas cooktop, full sized refrigerator, and a dining table. Or use the Weber grill and grill up some fresh lobster tails from your dive and dine al fresco on the ocean deck under the stars. Or have a local fisherman bring you the days catch. You are sure to become friendly with the beautiful and simple people that call the island home. ShoreBreak is the essence of the authentic Bahamian out island experience. This is not a resort experience. No umbrella drinks. Its a bit of living on the edge of the rugged, natural and beautiful terrain. The ocean below can be tumultuous, so use extreme caution. Thus the namesake ShoreBreak. With this said, children are not recommended unless always supervised and all guests are reminded to exercise extreme caution on the property and beach below. ShoreBreak seeks adventure travelers, star gazers, beach combers and romantics at heart. Enjoy!

Mark was meticulous in communicating both before and during our trip -- we were guided, supplied, and cared for generously.
Our perch over the Atlantic with only breezes for company

We missed the groundswell by 2 days but were blown away by the beauty and Caribbean coziness of Shorebreak Cottage. The sound of the ocean was relaxing as was the sound of the morning cicada songs and the passing ocean terns. The ocean breeze was healing. And the view… incredible. Pictures just cant translate how wonderful the view is. The cottage had all the necessary items; plenty of water, excellent a/c in the evening. Wifi was hyper-fast. Whatever else was needed we picked up at north eleuthera shopping ctr. A perfect stay. Very highly recommended.

Our stay in Eleuthera was amazing. Nothing I write will make real justice to it. From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the view, the privacy, and the beautiful landscape. The house offers the perfect blend of seclusion and convenience. It is spacious, airy, and comfortable and has everything you can need for simple but perfect days at the beach. The real highlight of this property is the outdoor space. The porch was the perfect place for refreshing nights with friends. The house has a beautiful deck for perfect sunset views making it easy and beautiful for a spectacular proposal.
The house has excellent WiFi and the necessary equipment for cooking and spending amazing days connected with the landscape.
Since the booking process the owner was extremely helpful and responsive. He has many useful information already highlighted on PDFs to make your stay as smooth and perfect as it can be.
Overall, I can't recommend this rented house in Eleuthera highly enough. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a family vacation, this is the perfect place to experience the beauty and tranquility of the Bahamas.

We had a fantastic time at the Shorebreak house. it is simple and basic but has everything you will need to enjoy. Like many of the other more remote, Bahamian Islands Eleuthra is not a place to go, if you intend to be waited on. Things are few and far between, but the beaches are amazing and the locals are fantastic.. if you like vacations like this, I highly suggest flying over to Cat Island as well.

We had a fantastic stay at shore break. The cleaning lady had not shown up before we got there, but the owner was very quick to make it right!
Short trip down a dirt road with an incredible view. The night sky is incredible as there is almost no cultural lights.

The owner provided a really good list of things to do, expectations, and contacts. His referral for rental cars (Robert Thompson) and his wife were great resources for the island. They also own a local burger place in Gregory town that is super good.

We enjoyed five nights at the property & never lost excitement of the view when we walked out on the back porch. What a stunning view! Perfectly located so that we were able to explore multiple areas of the island. The host(s) suggestions for the stay were spot on - from car rental to places to eat. Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your little slice of paradise.

My wife and I stayed here with our parents for one week in January. The property is really a slice of paradise. We were able to fall asleep to the waves crashing against the rocks each night. We were lucky enough to have access to the beach because of tide/weather conditions were favorable most nights. I'm not sure what the swimming would be like as we were not brave enough to enter the water because of the powerful waves in this area. This was not a huge deal to us because beaches are everywhere on this island. The solar provided plenty of power day and night (this was January, so no AC was ever running). The kitchen was well stocked with basic spices and cooking utensils/silverware. We did have water issue on our first day as the supply ran out which caused some issues with the water heaters and facilities use, but between Cecil the caretaker and Mark the owner the problem was resolved by the next morning. We cooked meals utilizing the stove top and Weber charcoal grill provided (we didn't find grilling tools but were able to get by using the indoor ones). Cooking was no issue. Aside from the gorgeous property, the location was very convenient to many of our island destinations. Typically, we'd stay south of Governor's Harbor, but found that Gregory Town was much more convenient for our needs. We highly recommend this property because of the location and the excellent service we received from the owner. The only thing I missed was a blender to concoct my tropical cocktails. I tried to get a battery powered blender to bring along, but I couldn't find one in time. Rent this play now!!!

Absolutely stunning spot! Spectacular views! We traveled other islands and now Eleuthera and Shorebreak has one of the most scenic views. This spot is "ocean front" in a league of its own! You see and hear the ocean from everywhere in the cottage. The sunrise, the crashing waves and salt mist, the private beach, stargazing and moonlit ocean... truly a magical spot! We got to use the secret beach twice and it was amazing! The cottage is great with comfortable beds, thoughtful set up and wrap-around decking. The Wi-Fi was 9/10, solar power worked great and again, it has a gorgeous view in every direction! We stayed for 11 nights and would have booked more if availability was there.
Eleuthera is a fantastic island and our family of 4 (kids 10 and 13) had a great time discovering it! Mark had many great recommendations to help plan our trip! We rented a car from Robert at Daddy Joe's, (great place to eat) which was convenient with airport pickup and drop off. We booked 2 boat trips (no fishing for us) one boat trip was for the north part of the island (Turtles, pigs, snorkelling... all amazing) and one for the south (lighthouse beach, snorkelling and Schooners Cay) Both trips were great. For the south trip we went with Captain John (BIG MAC - from Davies Harbour), amazing guy and very friendly. Everyone we met on the island was very friendly and helpful. Kids' favourite restaurant was Rainbow Inn Restaurant. Every beach we visited was amazing, the sand was so soft and almost always we had it all to ourselves. There is so much you can safely explore on your own! We learned about Eleuthera by first coming across Shorebreak and we truly can't wait to be back to the island and to stay at Shorebreak again.

Stayed for a week at Shorebreak with a family of four. Everything about the house, the location, and the proximity to surfers beach was fantastic. The view and falling asleep to the ocean every night is amazing. Not one issue with living off the grid and the kids were able to surf every day with a short walk to Surfers Beach. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a quiet, simple vacation to reconnect with your family.

Beautiful and Relaxing
The description of this property is spot on. It is off the grid, rugged, beautiful, and relaxing. We spent hours on the deck just relaxing and watching and listening to the ocean. The power and wifi were fine. Having bedroom AC at night was needed (summer) and worked well. There are many activities to fill you day if wanted......various beaches, boat trips, fishing, snorkeling, caving, and local island restaurants as well as trips to Harbor Island or Spanish Wells. Recommend purchasing the Beach Book Eleuthera and map. Beaches are spectacular and only have a couple other visitors on them. Dirt/rock road the house is rough.. No for people looking for the usual resort type experience. A great place and location.

Let me start off by saying, I’m not easily impressed - I have high expectations.
But this house and location is truly one of a kind! The location alone is beautiful enough to be a tourist destination! Breathtaking cliffs. A private beach. Complete privacy. The self sustaining house is a work of art inside and out. Simple and beautiful, modern and charming.
I know we’ll be talking about to his house and property for years to come, Mark has truly something special here (and he was very communicative and helpful).

The perfect place
The most perfect house on the most perfect piece of land situated in the most perfect way. The views are incredible, the house in comfortable, and the entire experience is incredibly relaxing.
Mark is a great host and Cecile will make sure you're well looked after on the island. The only reason not to stay here is so that its easier for us to book our next trip.

This house was amazing! Waking up to the sound of the ocean and the beautiful views each morning was so relaxing. We LOVED the hammock off the back of the house and the lounge chairs that overlooked the Atlantic. The house was very clean and perfect for a long weekend (or longer!) away. Thank you!

Amazing experience being off the grid. We NEVER had an issue with the A/C it was ice cold on very HOT July days. The water was clear and refreshing. All the notes Mark provides are of great help. Just note some places may not be open since the shutdown. Trust me when I say this pack a checked bag of provisions. Food is very expensive! It was nice to hang at happy hour on the deck with snacks etc.

Fantastic visit, Mark, even better than we'd imagined. The house & cove are stunning, you made the perfect statement there, in every way.
We rented a Jeep from Robt/Tiffany and checked out Surfer's, & French Leave beaches, spectacular. Enjoyed local eating spots and ALL of the people (locals and travelers) we met along the way. Your notes were a great guide.
Thanks again for the chance to experience eco paradise, it was truly inspiring. We've been looking around (and learning) in hopes of tackling our own small, sustainable island project -- part of the reason for our visit and our excitement to stay with you. We have a new appreciation for the hurdles you must've overcome to bring your beautiful Shorebreak dream to life.

Majestic Oceanfront Views
Shorebreak House is the ultimate Eleuthera experience. You are completely away from it all along the rugged and stunning Eleuthera eastern coastline. We so appreciate this house as it is completely off the grid and makes you appreciate the sun and the rain that much more. Stay here and enjoy nature and the vivacious ocean and don't forget to eat at the Surf Shack in Gregory Town. Thank you for another amazing stay, we can't wait to return again soon!

perfect COVD retreat
Mark is a great host. He is responsive, friendly and helpful. We loved our location a short walk to Surfer's Beach. The people on the island were friendly and accommodating and we ended up making some great discoveries. ... Like the ability to buy fresh greens (kale, spinach and baby lettuces) straight from a neighbor's kitchen garden. An amazing farm stand a ten minute drive from the house with tomatoes, limes and sweet potatoes grown right there. A fisherman who sells fresh fish straight from his tiny boat (cleaning and deboning it first). A clean and inexpensive laundry place where you can drop off pick up in just a couple of hours. A tiny restaurant run by an expat surfer that offers amazing to go healthy food made from all local produce, fish and chicken (and uses compostable containers!) Also we prefer that part of the island (low key vibe) and love the little surf community that surrounded us.

We had to cancel our trip in April due to COVID, but we were able to get through the restrictions and go the week after Thanksgiving 2020. COVID made for a few challenges on the trip, but not the fault of the owner or the property manager. Despite pretty strict COVID protocols the house was clean when we arrived. Due to wind and ocean conditions the beach below really wasn't useable. However, we went to Surfer's Beach on many days just down the street and often we were the only ones there. When it was too windy on the Atlantic side we went to a Caribbean beach and there was no wind, our favorite Caribbean beach was Rainbow Beach about 15 minutes south. We fed pigs, swam with turtles, and caught lobsters with Tyman Fishing in Spanish Wells. A couple tips from our experience:
1. Put on more bug spray than sunscreen, the no see um's will get you and you don't even know it.
2. Get an older model SUV, the road to the house is one lane and not really a road, which is fun. Also, some of the coolest spots on the island require an off road vehicle. Most of the check engine lights were on in our vehicle the entire time, but it always started and got us where we wanted to go.
3. As mentioned above, it is too windy on either side, go to the other side of the island and it's fine.
4. Mark does a great job describing exactly what the house is and is not. It's remote, on solar panels, hot water isn't guaranteed, no microwave, etc., which is exactly what we wanted.
I think that's about it. We had a great time and it was exactly what we wanted and expected.
Thanks Mark and Cecil.

An adventure
The Cottage situation and floor plan is great. We were four adults and were quite comfortable. I would suggest some wall pegs and shelving for the bathroom and bedroom would greatly help guest organize.
The view and private beach area ( due to windy conditions not useable most of the time while we were there) is fabulous. Walking the beach area was very cool.
Cecil dropped in the day after we arrived to make sure all was well and responded to the few questions we had during our week plus stay. The info provided about Eluthera was greatly appreciated and helped us plan our stay.
The drive into the cottage is not for the faint of heart. You Need a SUV. A great addition to the Cottage would be a propane BBQ.

A slice of heaven
Amazing spot and a beautiful home. Everything went perfectly, from checking in to leaving. The views are incredible and the place is beautifully secluded on the edge of cliffs overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean. The surf spot is close by and I managed to get some great waves. We had an amazing experience and will definitely be back

Memorable
The Shorebreak Cottage presented exactly as advertised, Off the Grid. It was exactly what we were looking for and satisfied are needs. The solar system worked and allowed us to cool the house down during the night hours. Everything "OFF" during the day but we weren't there anyway. We visited 16 different beaches in the 8 days we were there, not including the small beach area at the bottom of the cliff at the cottage. Our favorite was Lighthouse Beach at the southern most tip (recently purchased by Disney to our understanding). The snorkeling was great, we saw one of the large 5" ground spiders (Tarantula's), we purchased fresh fish and crawfish from the dock in James Cistern, and we visited Harbour Island one day. Great 16th birthday gift for our daughters! We will return.

Incredible
We absolutely loved the place! The setting was absolutely incredible, one only dreamed and imagined in fairy tales. It was a perfect second honeymoon after twenty years of marriage, and yet we hope to bring the kids at some point too. We loved the island and the precious people there. I have to add, off the grid living added to the sense of adventure experience, though was so easy and impressive. We’ll be back and will be sharing about your place with our traveling friends.

Great place!
We had a great week with my high school girls at Shorebreak cottage. We got great advice from Mark before the trip re car rentals and things to do. The view from the cottage is mesmerizing as the waves crash on the rocks. Our girls easily adjusted to off the grid living but were happy to have super fast WiFi at the house.

Very Special Place
We (2 couples) spent a week at Shorebreak Cottage this March. I don’t think you can adequately describe the private beach there in words.... the first word that came to mind when I walked down there was “biblical”. Very unique, and no public access points so you will have it to yourself. We were able to get down there every day, you just need to look at the tide chart and go at low tide. The cottage is well-located on the island; getting to Harbor Island was easy, and Lighthouse Point was worth the drive. This rental is VERY well managed. Marielbys was very responsive both before and during the trip. I emailed her one morning with an issue and Cecil the caretaker was there within the hour. I’d go back in a heatbeat.

Our little family of three had a perfect time at this gorgeous property!
Shorebreak is a beautiful home perfectly located, with everything you can think of to make your stay enjoyable and comfortable! We went to several beaches, spent the day at Harbour Island, frequented the Governor’s Harbour Bakery, and just soaked in as much sun, sand, and surf as we could. Every meal we ate was awesome from the grilled lobster to the Stone crab claws to the fried grouper. This will be our 2nd trip to Eleuthera and Shorebreak was perfect! My husband enjoyed fishing on the beach and caught Trigger fish and Parrot fish. It was relaxing and just what we needed during a busy work season! Thank you to Mark, the owner, and to Cecil, the caretaker. You can tell Shorebreak is beautifully managed and cared for!

Except for the surf you can have total peace and quite in this simple yet perfect cottage. One of the most gorgeous spots ever. I don’t want to say too much because I don’t want this place to be booked forever so I won’t be able to get it again!

Pictures and Words Don't Do Justice
The views are beautiful. The house was perfect. My wife and I spent several days on the island and found it to be a very restful place. We spent some time exploring the island and the beaches. The beaches are beautiful and the people are very friendly.
We had one small issue when we arrived and Cecil was there the next morning to resolve. Great guy and very informative when we asked for suggestions on places to visit/explore.
There is a house being built next door which takes the seclusion away BUT don't let that deter you from staying here. The views.... can't say enough about them.

Beyond relaxing and breathtaking location
My wife and I spent a week at Shorebreak, arriving on Thanksgiving day, and I can easily say that it was the single most relaxing experience of our lives. Pictures do not fully convey the beauty of the location. This was one of those rare times that the property was even better than the listing made it look. You get a beautiful sunrise every morning, see the Milky Way at night, and are lulled to sleep by the waves crashing against the cliffs.
The general location on the island is very convenient as well. There are so many great beaches close by that don't require a lot of driving. As an added bonus we discovered a copy of the Eleuthera Beach Book on the coffee table with dog eared pages and notes about previous guest favorite beaches. If you want fresh produce and bread head south to Island Farms. If you can't find anyone selling seafood at the docks in James Cistern go see Surfer Pete at Rebecca's Beach Shack in Gregory Town. Or just spend a day, or two, relaxing on the deck and exploring the amazing beach below the cottage.
We found the beds, linens, and towels to all be very comfortable. The cottage gets a great cross breeze as well and we never felt the need to run the AC during the day. Booking was incredibly easy and Marielbys always responded quickly to any questions we had leading up to our trip.
If you're looking to to unplug, relax, and soak in the beauty of the world around you I couldn't think of a better place to do it.
