The Hideaway is the quintessential Maine cabin on the lake. We have 6 adults in our group for a week and there was plenty of space for everyone. The place was clean, beds were comfortable and the lake was clear. We saw the bald eagle, a crane and the local loons. We spent the days swimming and exploring the lake in pontoon paddle boat. We went to Skowhegan and got fresh live lobsters from Cantrell’s seafood truck and enjoyed a lobster dinner on the deck facing the lake. The area is remote and quiet, with very few people. Even with properties on either side it feels very private and secluded. There is no tv in the living area so we brought one with us for our nightly horror movie. Joanna and Andrew were the perfect hosts and were very responsive to any of our questions. The organic maple syrup, pancake mix and chocolates on each bedside table was such a nice touch! We would recommend the hideaway for anyone who wants comfort and peace and quiet.

Turned 50 with my best friends and family at this Hideaway Cabin. Worth every penny spent, well stocked and accommodating to everyone. No regrets and couldn't give a better review. Thanks Joanna!!

The place was great, even better than advertised. The owners have thought of everything. It's well appionted and stocked with all the basics. Brook trout are abundant and delicious caught right in front of the huge windows. Snowmobile trail access at the end of the driveway and easy entry onto lake. We highly recommend and hope to return.

We really enjoyed our New year's stay!
The house is amazing: clean, well-equipped and spacious.
The views are breathtaking. We really enjoyed the porch and grounds around the house.
We were lucky to have snow during New Years. The pond was frozen and beautiful!
The fireplace adds to the cosiness of winter say.
We hope to be back this summer and then next winter.

Loved the cabin. We couldn’t get enough of the view of the lakes each morning and waking to hear loons.

Just two points we would like to make. Originally, our party was to have three individuals. One cancelled several weeks before. Had we had all three, using one shower would have been challenging. Also, when you charge for linens, the guests should not be responsible for washing them, as we were instructed to do. Also, there was no laundry detergent, so we had to go purchase some.

This is a wonderful place - the cabin is well-designed, comfortable and has everything you need for a great stay (including homemade pancake mix and Maine maple syrup!) Sandy Pond is quiet and peaceful, from sunsets to kayaking, with firepit and BBQ added bonuses. The pontoon paddle boat is useful and fun -- makes a great platform to swim from and also to explore the lake for those who don't wish to kayak. Great trail hiking nearby, including waterfalls, mountains, and rails-to-trails paths.
Joanna was really helpful in managing questions and answering any and all questions.
Couldn't have been any better!

We had such a wonderful time at the Hideaway! My husband, 2 children, sister, nephew and mother all fit comfortably and had so much fun. The place was immaculate felt like home. Despite the rainy start to our week, we spent each day paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and made lots of use of the pontoon paddle boat. We even had a visit from the giant turtle that lives in the pond— she was truly amazing to see! Joanna was very responsive and we had no complaints at all. We hope to be back be back again!

Beautiful space
Our family and family friends had a wonderful stay at the cabin! The cabin was beautiful and clean, the personal touches were just a bonus! Joanna allowed us to check in early because there wasn’t a prior day’s guest and that was hugely appreciated after a long drive with small children. Thank you!!

Maine vacation 2022
We had an absolutely amazing time here! We brought our dogs and kids and spent the weekend kayaking, fishing, and playing some board games during the rain. The house was everything we wanted and more. The kids asked if we could just stay forever. This is a perfect place for a family trip, very quiet and relaxing to get away from reality for a little while. We will absolutely be coming back!

Great Getaway
I stayed here with my wife, 4 kids, dog and my sister in law's family and her dog.
This was my second time staying at the house and they made some nice upgrades since my last stay (new windows and kitchen appliances). The house is very clean and Joanna is great responding to any questions. She knows my family plays pond hockey when we go so this year she actually shoveled out a small rink for us and set up a make shift bench near the pond so we could change into our skates.
Sugarloaf is a 45 minute ride and we do one day of skiing and the other days we play pond hockey. We pack our ice skates, sticks and hockey net and we shovel out our own hockey rink. We all play for hours then take a break to eat and warm up by the GREAT fireplace.
I recommend packing everything you are going to need for the days you will be there because the stores are not very close and once you get there it is nice to just settle in by the fire and have a few drinks.

Amazing place!
The house looked better than the pictures! It was clean, cozy and just beautiful! It was nice to sit by the fireplace and enjoy warm tea. The kitchen had everything we needed and more. The owners left a really nice note downstairs by the bar welcoming us at their place. The bar downstairs is awesome! The area is beautiful, no cars, noises. The yard was huge and we enjoyed walking around in snowy woods, our dog loved it as well! I highly recommend this place! We are definitely coming back! :)

Exactly what we were looking for!
We stayed at the Hideaway at the end of August. When we made our booking, we were attracted by its setting and seclusion, and it did not disappoint. Sandy Pond is something special. We loved the motorboat limitation; some days we didn't see anyone else out on the water. There were two loons raising a juvenile on the pond and we spent hours on the dock, watching them go about their lives and observing their different behavior. Bald eagles were frequent visitors, too (eliciting loud warning cries from the loons). In addition to the house's kayaks, we brought paddleboards which made for great impromptu swim docks.
The house itself is lovely. The kitchen is the best equipped of any we've stayed in. The knives were actually sharp! We cooked in every night and ate on the lovely porch. The ground level is quite private, which was nice when we had grandparents visiting - gave them a way to escape from the bustle of the kids. One note: if you normally make drip coffee, you might want to bring your own as the coffee maker at the Hideaway is a Keurig machine.
The Solon corner store is close and very well-stocked for a general store. You could definitely make dinner from their supplies, though a larger provisioning run in Madison/Skowhegan can be helpful. Tip if in those towns: try High Tide/Low Tide Seafood. Nondescript storefronts but love their stuff, especially the smoked mussels!. They have a truck that comes to other towns (Bethel, Kingfield, Rangeley) and it's great.

Wonderful Hideaway
We had a great family vacation nestled in the woods on beautiful sandy pond. The house was beautiful and well equipped with everything you could need. Joanna was easy to reach if needed, but we never had any issues. Thank you for a memorable week..We would love to stay there again!

Pure Relaxation
The hideaway cabin is great. You truly are forced to relax. Which is exactly what we came to do. The kids had blast swimming, kayaking, fishing, and searching for worms. They also loved s’mores by the campfires. The adults enjoyed a few drinks, good food, beautiful views, and company of family. The WiFi works great. The grill is in excellent shape. The only thing that caught me off guard is there is a extra charge to rent the kayaks of $175. All places I have stayed prior to this do not charge extra. Overall, the owners were very responsive and we enjoyed our stay. We recommend to anyone who is looking to relax!

Great cabin on Sandy Pond
The cabin was even better than the pictures. It was very well equipped, and had more kitchen supplies than I have seen in a vacation rental - it even had an electric griddle for pancakes! The bedrooms were comfortable and there was plenty of space to spread out when we had to work or do virtual school. The yard was great and the lake was a quick few steps from the cabin. The kayaks were a lot of fun and with the dock it was easy to get in and out of the pond.
There is a lot to do nearby, including hiking, a moose safari, the skowhegan drive-in and we visited the shop of the Maine Cabin Masters who were all at their shop that day and could not have been more gracious and friendly.
Overall this was a great property, Jonna was a great host, and we had a great stay!

Great stay!
The cabin was wonderful. We got lucky with warm May weather and was able to swim, fish, and kayak. Black flies and ticks were bad, but it is a bad year for them. Was hoping the dock would be in, but again, it's May and not normally this warm. Definitely plan to stay again!

Relaxing get-away
This was exactly what we needed for a relaxing get-away. The cabin was beautiful, clean, and had everything we needed. The availability of the kayaks and being right on the lake was priceless! We would definitely come again.

Wonderful stay!!!
As soon as we drove down the driveway, we fell in love with the view! Can't begin to describe it. As for the house, my son in law said it was his dream house!! Beautiful, well-furnished, kitchen very well stocked, comfy beds, and most important.... the fireplace. We spent 5 days at the Hideaway and loved every minute of it. We truly enjoyed getting away from the city for a while. We were blessed with sunny skies and 60+ degree weather.
Joanna was most flexible with requests, helpful, and always replied promptly to questions. I highly recommend renting this place if you want to get lost for a few days!!
Thanks for sharing you place with us, Joanna!

Absolutely Dreamy!
This property is just dreamy. It was covered in snow and the frozen lake just added to the charm.
It was very easy to communicate with Joanna who replied promptly and gave very easy to understand directions about everything.
The listing is true to its pictures and description. Maintained with lot of care - for both the sake of the property itself and anyone who stays in it (Gosh that stack of wood and kindling 😄!). The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed.
If you have any questions or concerns, Joanna provides her phone number to contact her directly. So suggest doing that during your stay.
I'd love to be back in early fall to this place.

Amazing Retreat
This cabin was everything I hoped it would be and more. Lots of great personal touches that you dont see very often such as amenity basket of local products, welcome board with our name on it, complimentary tv streaming apps, binoculars for eagle watching and much more. Being from Maryland, I really wanted a place where I could show my kids what its like to play pond hockey and I was able to clear a small rink for them to skate. During my stay I went back and forth on weather I could stay an extra night and the owners were very cooperative and responsive to my requests. In the end my kids were so exited I was able to extend our stay by one night last minute. I must of taken about 100 pictures of just the sunrise on the frozen lake as it was simply stunning. This is exactly what i was looking for in a safe covid friendly way to get my family out of our house for a trip and I hope to get back next year
Thank you for everything,

Amazing stay :)
Our family of four (plus our Yellow Lab pup) had a lovely time in this beautiful setting snowshoeing, fat biking, and enjoying the snow-covered view. We could watch an amazing pair of eagles each day, along with the ice fishermen with their snow mobiles. Outdoor fire pit fun with s’mores and hot dogs on a stick. The fireplace was ready to go when we arrived and very easy to use. The house was immaculate and had everything we needed. Thank you!!
