Designed by an architect specializing in vernacular European architecture, this beautiful home combines the best of traditional Irish country architecture with modern conveniences. From the outside, the house appears to be two connected traditional cottages much like the ruins of the Kelly homestead that is located on the property. Situated on over two acres of garden, field and forest overlooking Dingle Bay, the house is perfect for a relaxing vacation. Mountains ideal for hiking rise up directly behind the house and Kells Bay, with its beach, boating and fishing, is the view.
The inside the home features an open floor plan, cathedral ceilings, three bedrooms, one with a loft and two with fireplaces. There are two bathrooms, one with tub and one with shower. The kitchen opens onto the living room and dining area. The home is furnished with Danish inspired Irish furniture hand crafted in teak by Al O’Dea in Tuam, Ireland in the 1970’s. The home is beautifully decorated with art by Irish artists and the home owners, both teachers and artists, one specializing in painting Irish landscapes. This is a special place.
Although the house is available for rental, it is our home not a rental property. You will feel like you are staying in a beautifully maintained private home; you are. This opportunity also comes with responsibilities. We expect you to treat our home and belongings with respect. We rent only to small groups of six or less. If you are a larger group, we strongly encourage you to rent from our good friends and neighbors Agnes and John O’Sullivan whose rental property is also listed on this site (VRBO listing 95006).
To rent our home is to take a step back in time into a conceptually old, but functionally new house. It is not by accident, however, that the house does not have a TV. You have tranquility and beauty. The house also has a very well stocked collection of Irish literature and books on Irish history, archeology, anthropology, and natural history. Many of these things you can experience right on the property as our woods is unusual in West Kerry, and the ruins of the Kelly farmstead that we have partially restored and maintained is a special place with its own connection to Ireland’s rich and difficult history.
For those seriously interested in rentals we will gladly provide you with additional photos and a complete floor plan of the home. All renters will receive a guide to the area that we have put together complete with maps, day trip suggestions, dining recommendations, hiking and walking information, and suggestions about where to shop for locally grown and raised food.
Kells has a pub, several restaurants and a small food store. Complete shopping options are available a short drive away in Cahersiveen, Glenbeigh and Killorglin. There is an extensive choice of wonderful dinning options close by.

We very much enjoyed our stay, the house and the area. Directly located at the Ring of Kerry, the location is great for day-trips to various touristic spots, including the Dingle Island. The house is spacious and provides the comfort to feel like home e.g. fireplaces. The view is spectacular….Ireland as its best

We are a family of four with two teen boys who stayed in this house for a week in July, 2023. It is in a spectacular setting with an unbelievable view over Dingle Bay and across to Dingle peninsula, with sheep dotting the hillsides in the distance. We were at peace sitting in the Adirondack chairs on the stone deck, looking at the view, smelling the sea air and faintly hearing sheep bleating in the distance. As for the house itself, we loved it for its design, space, comfortable beds and amenities. The living/dining space is open to the kitchen. The kitchen was amazingly stocked with anything you could possibly need. There were two loft spaces, and two other bedrooms, two bathrooms. Everyone in the family spread out and enjoyed every corner of the house. We even cozied up by a turf fire on a particularly cold/wet (yes, in July- it happens). There are three fire places in the house. Exploring around the property, we saw ancient stone walls and ruins of a previous stone farm/cottage. This place was pure magic. In the weeks leading up to our stay, the owner, Tad, promptly answered our every question. On site, Eileen, the house keeper was welcoming, friendly, helpful and very responsive. The beach and pier is a short walk away. My 16 year old fished for hours on the rocks out on the point and on the pier, catching mackerel, and pollock. A Thai restaurant in a garden setting is just up the next driveway over from the house. Our magical week went by in a flash. We’ll be back!

We don’t know that we have ever stayed in a place where the view out every window is a landscape painting. Every detail of the house is so thoughtfully designed and the gardens delightful. If we take the best attributes of our home, the hills of East TN and the Atlantic coast of North Carolina, it is Kells Bay in Ireland. Our host and the folks of Kells Bay were so welcoming and helpful during our stay at the Lawrence abode in Kells Bay! Bill, Denise, Jan, Missy and Isaiah

This house is in a fantastic spot on the coast in Kells, overlooking Kells Bay. It feels remote and quiet but is also a short distance from many activities including Kells Bay Gardens (with a superb Thai restaurant) which is only 100 yards from the end of the driveway.
The house is an architectural gem — every window perfectly placed for a view. It is somewhat quirky in its cobble of heating systems, shower pressure pumps, etc but in a way that makes you feel you are in a special and unusual place (if a 2010 builder house is what you like, the house may not be the right fit for you).
Tad, the owner was a pleasure to deal with and provided a terrific guide to the house and area, and Eileen the caretaker was very helpful.
Great experience that we hope to enjoy again.

Idyllic Coastal Retreat
This is a hidden gem on the coast of Kerry. A charming hideaway with great access to the Ring of Kerry and Dingle Peninsula. The hosts Tad and Vicky were extremely warm , welcoming and responsive to any questions we had. Eileen the housekeeper ensured we had everything we needed and Agnes a neighbour who runs her own B&B reached out to us with fresh eggs and bread and on one evening a traditional home cooked Irish dinner. The whole experience was magical and we look forward to returning to this home from home.

Tolles Haus in wunderschöner, ruhiger Lage

Lovely Holiday Home - cosy with beautiful view - felt like staying here forever...
Our family (with 3 children from 7 to 12 years) spent 10 days in this lovely Irish home at Kells Bay. Our family felt very comfortable in this cosy home. Our children loved playing outside in the huge garden, while we parents sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the breathtaking view. The kitchen is very well equipped ans spacious, the cottage is lovely decorated (lots of art) and the very suitable for a family. The next seaside is only a few minutes to walk. The cottage is situated very good, so that we were able to do many different day trips. The caretakers were very helpful and gave us a very warm welcoming. We spent a very relaxing holiday einjoying the house and the breathtaking scenery. We can highly recommend this holiday house. We ourselves are looking forward coming here again - it is heaven on earth...

We enjoyed a wonderful, relaxing week of solitude at this property with day trips to Valentia Island, the Dingle Peninsula, Killarney, Muckross House and Gardens, Jameson Distillery in Cork, and Skellig Michael. From the kitchen and living room, the view of the sea is stunning. The property is spacious, decorated with handcrafted furniture, hand woven pillows, throws, pillows, and wall hangings, not to mention the beautiful watercolors. The kitchen is well equipped. The caretakers are readily available and very welcoming. We have stayed in many VRBO properties, Wolsey Lodges, B&Bs across the UK and North America, as well as varying accommodations throughout Europe and Asia, and we highly recommend this property. It is unique in its tranquility and scenery.

A great place to stay in Kerry!
Again many thanks Tad, for your very kind welcome!

We took my 82 year old mother on her second trip to Ireland (her first was 40 years ago) and the highlight of our trip was our week long stay in this wonderful house where we enjoyed quiet and gorgeous views the whole day long. There is lots of room and lots of comfort, and a kitchen that was fully appointed and a pleasure to use. We are both architects and my brother is a graphic designer and we all appreciated the intelligent use of Irish Arts and Crafts, both new and old, for the interiors. The owners were extremely helpful, not only with their instructions and advice, but also for arranging to have the house open and ready for us when we arrived. In less than a day we felt at home and well cared for. This house is an ideal choice. Thank you so much.

A sojourn in this stunning house would make a good holiday anywhere, and in this idyllic location with these views it is a very special experience. The modest and appropriate exterior conceals a beautiful white interior of mid-century modernist character with vast rooms, three of which are double-height. Over 40 years, the Lawrence family has furnished and decorated the house from local sources and collected books about Ireland and the locality so that you feel you are in your own private museum and library.
Just above Kells Bay with easy access to the Ring of Kerry and Cahersiveen, it's a good base for touring, but the house is so spacious and relaxing we found ourselves choosing to spend a part of each day here, A wonderful place and the perfect insurance against unpredictable weather.

It was love at first sight, we could have stayed on indefinitely.
My husband and I recently stayed for a week in this great home. The house was architecturally interesting and comfortable ... contemporary of late 70's vintage, but with elements of Irish country vernacular. There are 2 double-height living areas, perfectly placed picture windows in every room, and a gorgeous unobstructed view of Dingle Bay.
Tad, the owner is easy to work with, very helpful and generous with information about the area and things to do, but we were perfectly happy to spend a couple of rainy days in the house. Since this is a second family home for the owners, the house is well provided with daily necessities and we felt very much at home.
We hope to return for a future stay. Thanks, Tad!

What a fabulous place to be simultaneously transported to another world while being held in cozy home comfort. The house is in a breathtakingly beautiful setting, looking out over Dingle Bay toward the mountains on the Dingle peninsula. I never tired of the view, as the landscape and water keeps changing with different light, mist or fog or sunlight. Sometimes it was hard to pull myself away to go explore the nearby castles and monasteries! And if I chose not to go exploring, I could hunker down with a book and a mug of strong Irish tea next to the turf fire.
