About this cabin rental
WELCOME!
Located in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom in between the towns of Craftsbury, Saint Johnsbury, and Newport (and just 25 miles from the Canadian border!), our home is settled in the quaint and quiet town of Glover – named after American Revolutionary war hero Brigadier General John Glover and now home to the famed Bread and Puppet Theatre of New England.
We’re offering a comfortable, pet and kid-friendly, A-frame log cabin surrounded by 30 acres of pristine Appalachian woodland to explore and hike. We also have a 6 acre front yard complete with a 1 acre pond you are welcome to fish and relax by. After a long day enjoying all the rustic beauty and small town charm that Vermont has to offer, you can warm yourself by our pellet stove which heats both floors of our over 1,600 sq ft 4 bedroom, 2 full baths home. 8 guests maximum, including infants/children.
~ AMENITIES ~
We have a ramp leading up to the house for easy access. We also have a crib, a high chair, and child gates for the second floor staircase if necessary. Small and large dogs are permitted (No cats or other animals allowed- sorry). Wifi and HD TV with access to Hulu and Netflix are provided. In the mudroom/laundry room, you'll find a washer and dryer as well as heated floors, chairs, coat hooks, and boot racks to unload your winter gear on. During your stay, you will have access to a kitchen with a stove and refrigerator, but you can also try out the various restaurants located in the area.
~ LOCAL EATS ~
Enjoy homemade meals at the Busy Bee or peruse Currier Market for fresh local produce and meats as well as admire an extensive menagerie of game mounts. In nearby Barton, Parsons Corner offers up affordable and classic American fare for breakfast and lunch. For dinner, you can head to The Parker Pie Company, a gourmet pizza parlor which features locally-crafted beers, live music, and a distinctly ‘Vermontish’ dining experience.
~ SEASONAL SUGGESTIONS ~
Vermont has many exciting locales and attractions available anytime of the year, but if you're not sure where to start, here are some of our personal recommendations!
FALL ~ Admire Vermont’s beautiful autumn colors, go apple picking, and hunt for the perfect pumpkin. To get some of the best views of Vermont's foliage, ride the Aerial Tram at the Jay Peak Ski Resort which is open year-round. Our personal favorite - sample the hot apple cider and cider donuts at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill in Waterbury!
WINTER ~ Snowshoe, snowmobile, and alpine or cross-country ski around the beautiful winter landscape. Our home is located about one mile from the VAST snowmobiling trail for easy access. The nearest ski resorts are Jay Peak and Burke Mountain. Don't forget to try our world-renowned maple syrup during local Sugar-on-Snow get-togethers.
SPRING ~ Fly-fish Vermont’s rivers, go golfing, or hike the Green Mountain range. Fish for bass, trout, and sturgeon in Lake Memphremagog. We don't have so much a "spring" season as a mud season, so if you’re feeling adventurous, take an ATV and mudbog!
SUMMER ~ Swim, boat, and fish at Crystal Lake and Lake Willoughby. There are several blueberry and raspberry picking areas nearby as well. In Barton you can attend the Orleans County Fair which runs through mid-August. You can also beat the heat at Jay Peak Ski Resort's fully enclosed water park in Jay or visit the world famous Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory in Waterbury.
We hope you enjoy your stay!

Stunning property -we saw Great Blue Herons, Turkeys and lots of ducks and geese on the pond. Great access to Route 91 and the village. Beds comfortable, kitchen well outfitted (although we did not do much cooking), the owner was terrific with communication.

Nice place, needs a mild clean-up and repairs
6.0
I always give an honest review for guests and owners to consider.
Location - 10
Outside amenities 7
a) Grandchildren were disappointed that the 'treehouse' wasn't accessible
b) Chairs on island are broken
c) Walkway to island starting to rot & leans
d) Although the screened in porch is nice, we couldn't find a way to turn on lights (except the ones activated by motion sensor). A couple of the chairs around the table had worn seats & we didn't want to sit, fearing they might tear. Not sure if the outdoor toys, etc, were meant for guests. If they are, they are pretty much in disarray.
Interior - 5
a) Not giving a negative on the size, as we were aware of the square footage, but it is very tight for 8 people, in the living areas.
b) Utensils were very limited. I.E. only a large, slotted spoon; none to use to ladle out sauce (had to use a cup), tongs broken.
c) Cutting knives dull, making it difficult to cut meat.
d) Usually, the rentals we stay have a supply of cleaners, so we can clean counter tops, etc. Had to use water and paper towels.
e) The baseboard in the kitchen had a piece of bent metal, that by granddaughter cut her leg upon. I covered w/ duct tape
f) The size of the kitchen table makes it difficult to navigate around.
g) The living room is very dark, & the furniture definitely needs to be updated.
h) Dumpster was full when arrived. Had to keep trash in laundry until after Tue. pick up.
i) Window ACs, 1 BD without
Overall - 6 out of 10

Beautiful property, although the pond is a bit mucky, and the flies were everywhere, we did have a good time.

Very nice property.Everyone enjoyed relaxing by the pond and the deck is wonderful for the views and dining. The only downfall was the lack of recycling bins.Everything had to go to the trash dumpster.Vermont has had mandatory recycling for years.

Impressed right from the drive up the mountain and seeing the property and house. We’ve stayed here a few times now and we will stay again.

Rented this place for a couple nights for a group writing retreat; we all had good space for getting our work done. The place might be a little rough around the edges depending on what you’re looking for (could use some more screens in windows and doors, much of the lighting is too bright and harsh at night, at least one of the AC units made an entire room smell a little moldy—all things you could expect in an older vacation rental like this, though always the kinds of details that I hope an owner might have considered more…) Overall though, it was a solid place and the owner was responsive and very gracious with some special requests.

Tom gave us an excellent place to lay our heads and share stories over the big kitchen table. This weekend was for rememberence if a lost loved one, and it felt like we stayed in the perfect spot to do so.

We had a great stay at the spacious log cabin. Very clean and great for a large group. It worked perfectly for us as we did races at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center.

We had a wonderful stay at the Log Cabin- making great food, touring 3 breweries nearby, and gazing the stars for the Northern Lights.

The cabin was exactly as expected. Stayed for two weeks and it couldn't have been a better experience. We only had up to 4 people - but it accommodated 8 and the owners were very receptive and even contacted us during our stay to find out if we needed anything. If we ever take a trip to Vermont again.. we know where we would like to stay. Thank you again for your great hospitality.

Enjoyed the pond and the seclusion of the property and area.

We rented Tom’s property for a summer getaway with our five grandchildren. Though the weather wasn’t the best they had a wonderful cousin week together. They really enjoyed the pond and kayaks and when it was rainy there was no shortage of games and kids videos as well as ample room for hide and seek. We cooked in and had great takeout from Parker Pie and Busy Bee Diner. Currier Market is a gem and supplied anything we had forgotten or might need.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We had plenty of room for seven people, and the accommodations were very good. The location is quiet and there is a lovely view. Tom's cookies were delicious!

One of the most restful and peaceful stays we have had. The location lends itself to quiet relaxation with the beautiful sounds of birds.
Very spacious and well stocked for an enjoyable stay.

House and host are great. Only minor issues were a large box with leftover birthday cake left in the fridge that we had to deal with and an overflowing dumpster that made me worry about bears. But everything else was very good.

Quiet and great location. Spacious accomodation. Great assistance from the owner to settle some minor issues. Highly recommended.

This home was very beautiful, clean, and welcoming! Tom was very lenient with date change and early check in. Very accommodating and quick to respond! We also enjoyed our welcome goodies very much! It was a nice, quiet, secluded weekend getaway! We plan to stay again during warmer seasons!

We were very happy with our stay. Other than the great accommodations, we also found a nice place for breakfast every morning in town (the Busy Bee diner) Be sure to get there early...there's only one table! I would happily stay again.

You can believe all of the positive reviews for this property ! It was the finest location that we have enjoyed and perfect for our family - entering on one level with every need provided for a relaxing visit. The house was as described but much bigger than we expected. Very clean and the host was super accommodating. Bedding was comfortable and plentiful, well stocked kitchen and a few surprise touches. The views were amazing, especially this time of year with the leaves changing colors. Would definitely recommend.

Complete relaxation with everythng you need at your finger tips. Entry into the house was not difficult, Tom sent us instructions early the same day. The kitchen is magnificent! A pellet stove is in the kitchen with instructions. We had an amazing time. I spoke to Tom one of the nights and he has a sweet mild manner. My family and I are looking forward to our next visit.

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property. The yard is incredible. We loved watching the ducks & turkeys each morning around the pond.
Super quiet & private.

We booked this property as a quiet get away for my husband and his two sisters to spend a week re-connecting. We have been doing this the last few years and have looked for different areas in the Newport/Derby area. This was the best property we have reserved without a doubt. Ample room (even kitchen wasn't bad with 4 adult women in party!) and off the beaten path. We hoped to be able to enjoy watching the wildlife previous reviews mentioned. But on our second day here, the 'caretaker' came by with a 'fake' coyote/wolf statue that he put out by the pond. There was no wildlife to enjoy after that. A couple of geese that stayed up by the house but we no longer saw deer (seen first morning), turkey or other animals. So if you want wildlife, look for another property. Overall, a beautiful property which is cleaner than some. Wifi only worked for one person who had brand new laptop. Other two people with older laptops were unable to access wifi and/or internet. Nice appreciation touch with bottle of wine and crackers & cheese! Thank you for that.

It was great location if you want to get away from the daily grind
It was further away then some of the places we were scheduled to go to but close enough to small home town little towns with quant shops

Wonderful property
My wife and two children spent a week on Tom's property and it was one of our favorite spots in Vermont so far. The house itself is spacious and clean, the front yard was massive and freshly mowed. Everything from games to fishing rods, to many outdoor games is available in the house. The 1 acre pond and island were where we spent most of our time. The pond is stocked with trout and there's a large barrel of food if you want to feed them, but the real treat for my kids was the hours of fishing we did from the island and from the kayaks. Most properties we have stayed in VT have been at least 20 minutes from just about everything. Not a mile down the road is a market, a diner, and a store that sells everything maple related. Communication with Tom was easy as well. I would highly recommend this property, especially if you have young children.

A Perfect Mountain Retreat
Imagine a view of the beautiful mountains, a quite large pond with a family of geese and another with a dozen ducklings for constant entertainment and you will be thinking of this home. Lovely Master suite. A very relaxing home.
