About this house rental
Beautiful year round home located in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, 7 miles from Hill Farmstead (with the world's #1 beer as rated by RateBeer for many years running!), 15 minutes from the picturesque towns of Craftsbury and Greensboro, and 40 minutes from great mountain biking on East Burke's Kingdom Trails.
Our location offers plenty of privacy as the last house on a well-maintained dirt road, and situated on 40 acres with our own spring-fed pond on the premises for summer swimming or winter skating. Views from the western-facing deck are of the northern range of Vermont's Green Mountains, from Mt. Mansfield to Jay Peak.
Beautiful vistas around every curve and quintessential New England towns complete with country stores are an easy drive. Get a picnic lunch, stop at Parker Pie for some great pizza, hit the diner, or enjoy fine dining in nearby Craftsbury.
The house has a fully equipped kitchen, internet, WIFI, games, barbeque grills, outdoor firepit, beach towels, floats and inner tubes for the pond, and an eclectic assortment of books and board games. The lockable garage has plenty of space to hang bikes and store your gear. There is an Apple TV, DVD player and 6-7 broadcast stations come in crystal clear.
Our comfortable beds include some brand-new posturpedic mattresses. In addition to the 2 king-size, 1 queen, and 4 twin beds, and an Aerobed is also available.
SUMMER: a great area for those wanting to simply relax on our deck, enjoy a drive in the country, visit craft and antique stores, or enjoy more active pursuits like mountain biking, trail walking, hiking, running, swimming, w/canoeing, kayaking, sailing nearby. Swim in our private 1/2 acre pond with dock, or choose from a variety of lakes with free public beaches within a short drive - Lake Caspian (Greensboro), Shadow Lake and Daniels Pond (Glover). Mountain bike on dirt roads right outside the door, or drive 40 minutes to enjoy the Kingdom Trails in East Burke. Hike Mt. Hor or Mt. Pisgah overlooking Lake Willoughby, take the tram to the top of Jay Peak and enjoy their water park, or skip the car and simply enjoy quite walks on White Road, just out the door!

Comfortable house with well-outfitted kitchen and plenty of room for ten family members to be together yet have privacy when needed. Plenty of games for the kids and the pond, while more of a trek than we realized, was a huge hit with everyone, with a very magical vibe. Ample bedrooms, but I will mention that if anyone in your party is hyper-sensitive to typical basement odors, they would have a hard time staying in the two ground floor bedrooms. Otherwise, we had a great vacation at the Gilpins house - thank you so much!

Had the perfect family vacation , secluded location very quiet and relaxing ! Mom and Dad had easy drive in from Montreal , no complaints would def stay again :)

The locale was great. Isolated and private. Local swim place.
The house smelled moldy and pond was no swimmable. It had leashes and other animals. I would suggest the lake 10 minutes away.

We had seven adults here to cross country ski for three days. This group has done a three day trip for over 30 years. We skied one day at Craftsbury, and one day at Jay Peak XC.
We loved how well equipped this house was compared to most other rentals we have had. PLENTY of room for the seven of us. The living room was a very nice room to gather in and hang out after skiing.

We enjoyed a terrific stay here in Greensboro. The property was lovely, and the kitchen had everything we needed (and much exceeded standards for a VRBO!) Incredible views at sunset over the mountains, and quiet. As a ski trip we especially loved the central stove and warm feel of the house.
I recommend that one takes the roads seriously in the winter! We had a few cars which were not entirely up to the task of the snowy dirt roads (we were, all of us, city folk w/o snow tires). Plows came by every morning but those roads and hills deserve some respect.
Would definitely recommend for exploring this beautiful corner of Vermont in any season.

The view was amazing. Nice house with a lot of room.

Nice weekend in Greensboro at the house. Plenty of space for 5 of us to spread out. Wonderful shelves of literature for any age to grab and read in many rooms. Comfortable beds and well labeled home. 20 minutes to Craftsbury Outdoor Center for some of the best Nordic skiing in Vermont. In winter, recommend you have a reliable all wheel drive vehicle to navigate road and driveway.

I celebrated my 30th birthday with a long weekend at the Gilpin house with friends and family. We had a blast. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. An hour from Jay Peak made for a couple excellent ski days. And XC and hiking trails from the property were beautiful and more than we had hoped for. We enjoyed dinner in Craftsbury, cheese from Jasper Hill, and beer from Hill Farmstead. Be prepared for remoteness and no service in the surrounding area (makes it easy to unplug!) Wifi at the property worked well for us. Rob was easy to communicate with. Highly recommend.

My family, friends and I celebrated New Years in this home. Overall we are pleased with our vacation spent in this home even though there was snow out the window, it was warm and cozy inside. Here you will find everything you need for a comfortable time. From utensils to bed sheets, blankets, and towels. The owner of the house kept in touch with us and answered any questions. We want to thank the people who did the cleaning in the home, and recommended some places to visit located nearby. 30 minutes from the house we enjoyed amazing pizza and live tasting beer. Also 50 minutes away, we tried skiing for the first time at a skiing centre. It would be amazing to return here summer time and fall time, also, because this is a beautiful state Vermont…

The beautiful surroundings entirely made our stay! There are deer trails through the forest for daily walks as well as a quiet country road. The view from the deck is lovely - not another home in sight! We enjoyed a crackling fire in the fireplace on one cold foggy day which I’ll always remember. The interior does leave a bit to be desired/upgraded as far as decor goes, but the beds were comfortable and we found everything we needed in the kitchen. We loved our stay~

Very cozy and homey house. Almost like a fairy tale driving among the trees on a twisty country road to arrive at a house on a hill looking out over a sea of green forest (before foliage) and mountains in the distance. The owner, Mr. Gilpin was more than gracious to us, having to continue to change our booking dates due to COVID-19 in the past year. The house itself is warm and inviting with a wide deck to watch the sun go down, comedy couches and a large dining room for family meals. The downstairs is delightfully cool and has a wonderful almost earthen smell that takes me back to my grandparents houses and my own home in the northeast kingdom growing up. The only suggestions I have would be shades on living room windows to keep sun out in the hottest part of the day, maybe more fans, and a screen on the sliding door out to the deck. My husband wanted to leave a contribution to thank Mr. Gilpin and purchased a 24 inch flat screen TV in the upstairs bedroom on the desk. It is compatible to play station 4 or other gaming systems and will thrill any teens. Thank you again for such a wonderful stay!!

Pros- good size deck - property is secluded
Cons- property description is not accurate. Makes me also question validity of a few reviews. Initially had a party of 11 to celebrate our 60th birthdays. Due to the pandemic it ended up only being a party at six due to the travel restrictions. Went downstairs to check out the bedrooms only to find it to be so musty we couldn’t sleep down there. Back upstairs to realize the oven door wouldn’t open and the bedroom on this floor smelled. Come to find out that bedroom is right next to the garage which had a lot of garbage in it. Further upstairs to check out the other beds to find it appeared the pull out sofa was broken or at the least looked broken. There were no instructions on how to run the TV. The furniture in the TV room was quite dated. The pond entrance was not marked. We walked a half mile down the road looking for the pond and found a path on the way back to the house. It’s quite a distance from the house - approx 1/4 mile. The dock is half underwater. The pond is murky and has leeches in it. Certainly not something we were going to swim in; although the homeowner assured me he and his family swim in it. He also assured me his son and his friends left the property the day we arrived - there was no complaint about the musty smell -he thought possibly my friends and I are sensitive.. We were so sensitive, we left a day early. Still had a good time because we’re good friends - it wouldn’t matter where we stayed. Shameful representation.

Quiet Escape
The house and property were great. The house is clean and well stocked. There is plenty of space in the house. The property allows for a number of things: hiking, swimming in the pond, building a fire in the firepit, and sitting on the deck looking out at the mountains (and sunset!). It was a quiet and at the end of a road, so I don't think I saw anyone the whole time.
It is worth the short drive to both go and hike the Willoughby Mountain trail and grab pizza and drinks at Parker Pie.

We had an awesome New Year's stay at the Gilpin's house! We were a group of ten (in our 30s) and it was perfect for us. The basement has one room with 3 singles and another with a queen or king, first floor has a bedroom with a queen/double, and the second floor has a large open room with a queen/double and another room with a king. There's a bathroom on each floor (tub and separate shower on first floor and tub/shower on the second floor). The kitchen was very well-stocked with cooking utensils, pots/pans, large coffee maker, multiple french presses, etc. and with basic cooking ingredients (including a well-stocked and extremely well-organized spice drawer).
The layout of the first floor is great for hanging out, as the kitchen/dining area is totally open and that connects to the den/living room area with a fireplace. Very cozy spot!
We also enjoyed some awesome sledding down the hill in front of the house. The house is about 20 mins from the Craftsbury Outdoor Center and also about 20 mins from Parker Pie, and not far from Hill Farmstead either, although we didn't have time to make it to the latter 2.
We were lucky to get 6+ inches of snow (following some sleet/freezing rain) while we were there, but it did make the drive to/from the house a little challenging. Fortunately, we followed the town plow down White Road on our way in, and we called Rob to have the driveway plowed. Ultimately we were fine (even in a Corolla with summer tires) but it's definitely important to have good tires, and 4/AWD are even better!
Overall, a great house for a larger group! We hope we can spend New Year's here again!

This property fit our Biathlon Team very well. Only issue we had was could not get up the drive on arrival. Gave Rob a call and snowplow was there within an hour. Recommend when winter driving in this area, definitely snow tires and AWD highly encouraged. Great views in the am. We will be booking this property again for our Team when racing / training at Craftsbury Outdoor Center.
