Welcome to 'My Happy Place' on beautiful St. George Island! Formerly known as She Shells and Broadwing, always a top rental! My Happy Place is a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath home with a sleeper sofa, offering sleeping for 10 guest.
You will find amazing views at this home with plenty of porch space and seating to enjoy them. We believe the view from the top balcony is one of the best on the island! You are only a short walk to the bike path and the St. George Island beach from this home.
Chances are, this gorgeous Victorian home has caught your eye if you have ever driven down Gulf Beach Drive near the corner of 12th street and the St. George Island plantation gate. This home towers high with 2 floors of living space with an additional stair set going up to the 3rd floor reading nook with balcony. Numerous windows and tall ceilings make this home bright, airy, and open.
Through out the home you will find nautical décor touches with tranquil colors on the walls. You can relax sitting in the open living room with comfortable seating, wrap around windows, Flat screen TV, and a large book shelf with plenty of books and games. Take a peak on the kids in the pool downstairs by walking out the screened in porch off the living & kitchen area. By the way, our kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils, bake ware, appliances- including: coffee maker, blender, toaster, mixer & more. All stainless steel appliances in this kitchen!
The enchanted dining area features a wooden chandelier, romantic wall sconces, a built in bench for the dining table, and a sliding glass door for access to the outside screened porch.
Along with kitchen and dining on the first floor, there is a hallway bathroom with shower, and a full bedroom with a flat screen and a beautiful view. By taking the stairs or elevator to the 2nd floor you have 3 bedrooms on this level. The King master bedroom is simply wonderful! As pictured, take a look out the windows for palm tree-tops & a gulf view . Walk out to your own private screened in porch off the master to feel the breeze. The circular shape and window placement in the master bedroom makes for another panoramic view with plenty of sunshine lighting. Double dressers and a flat screen in the master! Off the master you have the master bathroom with a tub/shower combo, vanity, and small linen closet for your sunscreen and towels. Around the corner is a fun place for children. Bedroom #2 features 2 twin beds, a book shelf with books, closet, bright artwork on the wall, and a fun kid's table for 2! Bedroom #3 is a Queen bedroom featuring fun aqua walls with pops of coral decor, awesome - amazing views, and a flat screen to top it off! There is a Jack and Jill bathroom conveniently located between Bedroom #2 & #3. This bathroom is a tub/shower combo with vanity.
The multiple decks on this home make the outside feel as spacious as the inside. Wide parking spaces under the home, including a wide drive way. Take a swim in the pool and soak up the sun with outdoor seating including chairs & lounge chairs, all surrounded by a privacy fence. As an added bonus, there is an outdoor bathroom with sink, outdoor shower, and an outdoor fish cleaning station located just outside the pool gate.
**Pool can be heated for a fee of $250 but is not guaranteed due to the weather below 60° or any maintenance issues that may arise. Please call when you book the home to heat the pool and the week before your arrival in case of inclement weather or maintenance issues.

This property was very poorly maintained. Upon arrival, the floors in the main living area and the kitchen were so disgusting that I steam mopped them for over an hour. There is mold inside the elevator and in all the bathrooms. My family was very disappointed by the cleanliness of this property. It’s clear that it was, at once, a very beautiful place, but it need attention immediately. The baseboards were covered in filth, the entire interior needs a professional deep cleaning before anyone is allowed to rent this place. So disappointing for the amount of money spent.

This house is stunning to look at from the outside and is in a great location. The pool was nice and very private. On the inside: over half of the blinds are broken; mold is visible behind the walls from the elevator shaft and in one of the bedroom closets; all bedding was either yellowed, blood stained, or had cigarette burns; 4 dirty coffee pots to choose from and two were non-working; the floors were FILTHY; railing around top deck has broken and loose rungs; air conditioner on the top level where the livingroom, kitchen, and one bedroom are did not work for 4 of the 7 days we stayed; boogers were smeared on the wall beside the bed in the upper level bedroom; greasy hand prints lined the stairwells; light in the elevator was not attached and dangling down; the front door took extreme force to open - almost impossible for the kids, our wheelchair bound family member, and the mothers holding their infants to open; refrigertor beeped every minute even when the filter reset button was pushed; trash was strewn around the outside and broken items left by prior tenants remained in the covered parking area.
There is so much more to list. I have been coming to St. George Island for 20 years and have stayed at a different house each year. This one was by far the worst.

My Happy Place is exactly that! It is such a beautiful home with all the amenities.This was our 2nd year to come to the island and as our family continues to grow, We needed more space this year, We had 8 adults and 2 infants and there was plenty of room for all to spread out. It was a great location as well. We love SGI!

Most important to me in a rental are comfortable beds, bedding and pillows. My Happy Place provided all three (except for 4th bedroom with child size beds with droopy mattresses which fortunately we didn’t need). Lots of bath towels. Plenty of hot water. Kitchen had everything we needed but could use more kitchen towels (we brought our own after annother reviewer mentioned this). Our host was available by text and responded quickly to all questions and concerns. A short walk to the beach was a bonus. The pool was clean and refreshing. I would suggest some of the window blinds need to be replaced especially the one on master bedroom porch door. We would definitely rent My Happy Place again.

We enjoyed our stay at my happy place. The location is perfect directly across the beach short little walk. The views from the front porch are amazing. We did have a couple of hiccups but the owner was very responsive and sent someone out immediately to take care of them and they were small things. Everything is provided in the kitchen for cooking. The beds were comfortable. We did run out of toilet paper and had to make a run to the store unexpectedly but that's minor compared to the great time that we had in this beautiful home. It was the perfect getaway for my sisters and I.

House was wonderful the elevator was a little hard to work sometimes but the property manger helped us to understand how to work it since you had to manual flip a button . Other than that the house was very spacious . The beach there was never crowered.

We stayed here for a week with 5 adults, 2 dogs, and 5 children, 0-5 years old. The location is amazing, only a short walk to public beach access that was never crowded. Pool was nice and private and we were overall comfortable during our stay, but will probably not stay here again.
We appreciated that there is a baby gate installed at the top of the stairs on the top level (living room/kitchen) and the elevator is basically impossible for the kids to access on their own, so that was not a safety concern.
The house was a little dirty (floors turned our feet black from day one), a bit outdated, and lacking some items (no oven mitts?!, bare minimum of shower/hand/dish towels).
We had a few issues during our stay and the property manager was super responsive and had everything resolved very quickly. For example, the dishwasher was all but falling out of the cabinet and he had someone over the next day to repair. The battery to the door lock died and we were all locked out (with a 6 month old during the hottest part of the day), and he replied within 2 minutes and had someone over to the house truly in under 10 minutes.
We also noticed there was sewage coming out the back of the house, and the pest control guy even commented on it when he came by (unannounced, which we did not love and didn't have him spray inside because we had babies sleeping and our dogs in the house).
All in all, for the price and location -- and being pet-friendly -- this place was fine.

The house I’m sure was at one time very pretty but needs lots of help! As all the other reviews stated, the elevator is in desperate need of updating and repairs. Does not work properly. Septic tank is messed up backing sewage up in yard the last several days of our trip. Location was nice and quite but until it gets much needed attention, I would not recommend staying here.

The lock did not work when we got there, but it was fixed very promptly and the elevator and TV’s are quirky just have to work with them.
We stayed here over 20 years ago as well and it is a great location for sure. Beautiful views and the new floors are beautiful. The outside grounds need better care a lot of trash from maybe other visitors , but that is an easy fix.

This house was perfect. It is an easy walk to and from the beach with amazing views from the porches. The elevator was clutch for unloading and getting the kids up and down. The pool was beautiful and clean and the house was stocked with anything we could need. The one small problem we had with the sink was addressed and fixed extremely quickly especially considering it was a sunday night. I will definitely stay here again when visiting SGI.

Our family had a wonderful time staying at your house. It was close to the beach, could get everything we needed in a 5 minute golf cart drive, had an elevator in the house... and those views! The sunrises were beautiful.
the house was big enough to congregate and find privacy. The kitchen was stocked with all the utensils and pans one could need.
For those that needed a little help with the many stairs (the dog and me :) ) the elevator was a life saver.
A true relaxing vacation.

My only woe was the Weber grill and the “state park” model grill. The racks were rusted, and I couldn’t find a wire brush to go to work on them. Wish I’d spotted that before picking up some charcoal.

Many things need attention here! Dealt with a malfunctioning refrigerator the entire stay (10 days). Had to keep most things in cooler. Freezer would not freeze anything though would keep most things already frozen. Master bath tub totally stopped up on arrival - would not drain at all. Elevator had trouble engaging on 3rd floor. So, often unable to call it from a lower floor or use from 3rd floor if you don’t know to move the lever down. Pots and pans so disorganized. After reorganizing/stacking, found that there was a good assortment of pans, lids, skillets. Over 25 years, have stayed in 9 different houses, 4 of the multiple times. This by far, has been the worst experience.

While the elevator can be fussity, Brandon was on-island and always available for assistance. The location, pool and other amenities were wonderful. A convection oven was a nice plus for baking brownies and reheating leftovers from the Blue Parrot.

The house was very nice and great for our family . when we arrived on Saturday the garbage was overflowing and critters had been in it had it every where wasn't picked up until Tuesday when left on Saturday of coure we had filled it again we had to bring 3 bags home with us I think it should be picked up twice a week. the elevator door on the bottom was so hard to open someone had to ride down or up with me to open . the back entrance door was so tight at the thresh plate myself and granddaughter couldn't open without assistence

Family Vacay
Stayed one week with the family, with grandchildren from ages 2 thru 4. Management was prompt to respond to any issues to which they were informed. Several small appliances need to be checked (blender had a hairline crack in it), fish cleaning station was clogged prior to our arrival, and the pool area really needs some cool-deck applied, as it was almost too hot to walk on in the evenings. Still, the house was nice and one block from the beach.

We had a great stay. Elevator was a plus for sure, especially for my aging mother not to mention the groceries and luggage. The power poles were being replaced outside the property so we had noise all week from the trucks and were blocked from the driveway a few times. However, I understand the poles needed replacing (especially prior to future hurricanes/storms).

Good location, good layout for large group
Nice property with a good layout for a large group not requiring two separate living areas. Balcony areas were clutch. Pool satisfactory to take a dip after the beach. Good location at the far end of the beach next to Plantation entrance. Older home so it shows some wear-n-tear, but that is what is good about this place, you can enjoy your stay without being over worried about the little things. Owner communication solid. Would stay again if I had the same group of 8.

A Happy Place, Indeed
“My Happy Place” is a spacious home that is a three minute walk to a relatively uncrowded part of the expansive beach. The house was delightfully clean. It is spacious both indoors and outside on porches with chairs that almost encircle the second and third floors. The kitchen is well-appointed with all the dishes and service-ware one could need.We appreciated that we could take our dog who enjoyed the third floor porch! We hope to return to this fabulous rental.

Great views
The property was good. We were warned that the pool didn’t work. But the elevator wasn’t working either, which created a problem for my mother. We got all the groceries to the third floor, and all the suitcases to the second and third floors. The following day the elevator was fixed.

Overall the My Happy Place was a wonderful place to stay.
My wife and I spent our 25th wedding anniversary there. Due to the time of year (mid-Feb), the pool was too cold to swim in even though we paid for it to be heated. However we were told before hand that even with the heater on, it may not be warm enough to swim in. Not a big deal. The place does need some repairs performed. Screens were broken and the handrail for the widows balcony was very loose. Because of the coolness no insect problem but during the summer months not having the screens would be a problem. Cleanliness was OK, it could be better. We had to clean the showers ourselves when we got there since they were dirty and had some mold. The shower curtain in the master bath was also moldy. Overall we had a wonderful time and My Happy Place was a great place to stay

I rate property on they type of property that it is. I don’t relate a motel 6 the same as a Hilton. It’s all relevant. Positives: excellent communication and very easy to work with. The view of the gulf is very good considering it’s a block away. The space is large and can accommodate a lot of people. It’s pet friendly which is important to us. Easy walk to the beach……what could be improved: it needs a deep clean. General touch up things like painting…….Overall: Worked great for us. Would rate it like a quality inn type quality. Would stay there again.

Great vacation!
We had a great long weekend. Check-in was super easy, manager was easily accessible, the house was clean & had all that we needed. Although the front was on the main strip, loved that the side entrance was on a quiet side street next to the plantation. We do tend to ride bikes to restaurants so it was a tad bit farther than we anticipated, but we got great exercise. Pool area was great. The home is older but has lots of character & space! Loved it!

Most relaxing girls trip!
Took my mom and aunts to My Happy Place for a first ever girls trip. Could not have asked for a better place to stay or more relaxing vacation. Quiet, comfortable, clean, and homey. Offered all the comforts of home but with a fabulous view and private pool. The owner couldn’t be any easier to communicate with. Perfect secluded corner lot. Will definitely be making this an annual trip with the girls to stay at My Happy Place. It quickly became our new happy place!

My UN-Happy Place needs attention
Property is deteriorating. Floors were not clean, new appliances not properly installed, mold in showers, screen doors banging, door to crows nest blew open in middle of night, multiple light bulbs burned out, toilets leaking, screened porch need screens replaced, smoke detector missing battery, lost internet half the week, mold under decks.
