About this house rental
Newly built LUXURY designer home including a 6-person HOT TUB and an amazing view of the ocean. The living space on the top floor is 2300 sq. ft. including a covered lanai of 1150 sq. ft. Bedrooms with attached bathrooms are 30 ft. apart with which make each bedroom very private. This is the top floor. The ground floor is rented long term. Both floors are totally separated and very private.

Perfectly located getaway just above historical Kealakekua Bay, ranked as #11 by CNN as the world's best-snorkeling destinations and #1 among the Hawaii islands. Yet close to Kona in a beautiful and quiet area with the old Hawaiian feeling. Just minutes away from beaches, snorkeling, restaurants, supermarket, cafes, banks, hospital and more. It is situated in a very nice and quiet neighborhood.
The airport is 6 miles north of Kailua-Kona. Our house is perfectly located 14 miles south of Kailua-Kona. As a reference, Kona Paradise which may save you a few dollars is another 12 miles or a 25-minute drive south of our house further away from Kailua-Kona.
Our newly built LUXURY house has 2300 sq. ft. (215 sq. m.) living area including a covered lanai and is super comfortable with everything you can possibly need including a hot tub on the lanai and breathtaking 180-degree view of the ocean and the mountain.
Half of the 2300 sq. ft. living space consists of a covered lanai, great for enjoying your morning espresso while watching the sun climbing over the mountain top, or watch the sunset over the ocean. At night you will be amazed by our spacious 6-person hot tub on the lanai while gazing the stars. With a fantastic 180-degree view of the mountain and the ocean, from Kealakekua Bay to Honaunau Bay, you can sit for hours just relaxing in our luxury patio chaise loungers.
The beautiful fully equipped kitchen and living room are all in one and have a great espresso machine, microwave oven, regular oven, dishwasher, large Weber outdoor grill on the lanai and beautiful quartz-stone countertops.
You can cook in the kitchen and watch the 65-inch 4K TV in the living room at the same time or have a drink and a snack at the kitchen island that seats 4, while you are watching the chef preparing your food. Enjoy your dinner on the lanai at our big dinner table which seats up to eight.
The top floor has 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms and walk-in closets. The unit sleeps 4 people (1 King and 2 Twin beds which can be put together), and there is a possibility to put in one extra folding bed with memory foam mattress (perfect for children or a small adult). The living room has a 65 inch TV and a luxury sofa. Cable TV with many channels and Netflix are included.
When you wake up in your bed in the morning, open your eyes, look out through the big sliders and be swept away by the amazing ocean view. At 1100 ft. the temperature is just perfect, 80 degrees during the day and 70 degrees at night. You sleep great at this elevation without air conditioning.
Our house is perfectly located in a beautiful neighborhood with an easy driveway and plenty of parking. Just minutes away from shopping and the best breakfast place on the island, The Coffee Shack.
Your first day, you are most likely heading down to Kealakekua Bay, to snorkel, watch wild spinner dolphins in the morning or kayaking. Either way, it’s a convenient 12-minute drive. Your second day, you may want to go south for 20 minutes and visit the sandy and most private beach of Hookena, one of the gems when it comes to beaches in the area, with great swimming and sometimes plenty of wild dolphins. The third day another gem is Honaunau National Historical Park (10 minutes drive). One of the evenings, you can drive 10 minutes north for fine dining at Keei Café, or just have great food at Annie's Burger, or continue another 10 minutes north for all the choices Kailua-Kona has to offer.
Our house is a great base for exploring the Island. We love to go around the Island for a long day, or if you haven’t done it before, stay a night in Hilo to have some more time exploring the area. Driving around the Island in one day, starting at 6 AM, will allow time for a visit to the Volcano, lunch in Hilo, driving the amazing 4-Mile Scenic Drive through the rain forest, experiencing Akaka Falls just before sunset and then coming back through Waimea and Kona around 8 PM. Adding another day will make time for a visit to Hilo Zoo, it’s a blast for the children, and watch the lava flow at night.
We always love to come back to the peace and calmness of our neighborhood and the house after a long day on the road. Going north of Kona to the resorts is an easy 45-minute drive and will be fun for a day. Hilton Waikoloa is well worth a visit just to get the feeling of how nice it is to be back at the house! There are several great beaches up north as well. The largest sandy beach on the island is Hapuna Beach Park (50-minute drive up north).

Absolutely beautiful home with amazing view of ocean. Excellent communication from hosts, quick response with any questions we had. Jacuzzi was the cherry on top after a long day of exploring the island. The only suggestion I have is to invest in AC in home as it was extremely hot and humid inside home when we arrived, which was pretty unpleasant. Otherwise, exceptional stay! Would definitely stay again!

My husband and I stayed in this beautiful home for our 38th anniversary. The home was peaceful and away from the tourists. We especially enjoyed the lanai with the hot tub, views, grill and dining table. Other amenities that made our stay better were the washer/dryer, beach gear, and the espresso machine (beans from Kona Joes). We would recommend this lovely home to anyone wanting a peaceful experience with top notch amenities.

We had an amazing time staying in this beautiful home. The Lanai had the most stunning view and waking up every morning was just incredible. The house was comfortable and well equipped with everything you need for an enjoyable stay.
We were in a good location to many beaches, local restaurants and cafes. It is about an hours drive to big, long white sandy beaches but definitely worth it.
I would highly recommend this lovely home!
(Make sure you read all the house rules as no noise allowed after 8pm on the Lanai)

Beautiful home overlooking the ocean in a quiet neighborhood. Good communication with the owners. The kitchen was well- equipped for home cooked meals during our trip. There were neighbors downstairs; but you hardly knew they were there. Check in/ out was a breeze. Thank you for having us!

We loved our stay at the Whale House. The lanai space was spectacular. While we we didn't spend much time inside other than for sleeping, the rental had everything we needed for a lovely vacation.

Amazing outdoor living space with spacious open lanai, very comfortable furniture, kitchen was well stocked with quality supplies. The house was extremely well appointed. The notes around the house were very helpful. The young lady living below was very helpful (especially during the brief power outage). We hardly knew that anyone was living in the lower level.

I don’t think we could have found a better location. Magnificent unobstructed view from the huge lanai all the way down to the ocean.
Makes you want to stay year round. Owners give a thoroughly detailed set of instructions on how to use the spa/hot tub, espresso maker and other amenities.
My wife and kids celebrated our 35th anniversary in a perfect location. We will remember this trip always.

We really enjoyed our stay at this house, especially the peaceful view across the Kona coffee fields down to the ocean. The photos and descriptions in the listing are exactly on-point for this gorgeous place. Communication with the hosts was especially quick and easy. The thing I enjoyed most was that this house has personality -- it's not a generic rental, but a place created by the owners and filled with things they love. 10/10, I wouldn't change a thing.

Enjoyed our 3 night stay in Captain Cook with the family. Place was as advertised and owners were extremely to communicate with for checkin, places to eat, and care for the unit.
The place itself was lovely, a cute bungalow with a spectacular 2nd floor lanai with sensational views. Unit itself had a weird layout quirk (pass thru bathrooms to access bedrooms), but was very clean and comfortable with a terrific main great room.
Location was dynamite to go to Volcanoes NP for a day trip as well as kayaking in Kealakekua Bay and snorkeling with manta rays in Kailua. Feels like an oasis / jungle retreat with the birds and frogs at night which we loved.
Would recommend for sure.

We really loved our 5 night stay in Captain cook. This very spacious, clean and very well equipped top floor appartement has a beautiful view from the Lanai. Communication with the owner was very efficient trough the app. He provided a list with nice things to do and nice places to eat. He let us know that we could check in earlier the same day.

The top floor of the white whale is beautiful. Caretaker/Renter lives downstairs (separate entrance). The place is just like it is shown in the photos. The owner does require a separate contract from the VRBO contract and a copy of your DL. Both were requested while we were already traveling and created quite a bit of communication taking away from our enjoyment of our vacation (Not much being in the moment when you are worried about the next rental.).
The house rules are so strict with detailed penalties for all possible infraction that after we got to the house I was worried about being charged for damages that we did not cause for example: inventory stickers are everywhere but the inventory does not match the stickers, hot tub had some sand, wood floor has existing water damage and there was fresh water on the floor by the dishwasher. I ended up sending pictures and advised about issues for the first part of our stay so we would not get charged. It all turned out ok in the end but I felt uncomfortable in the house because the owner does not trust his guests. We have stayed in many vacation rental properties, have always followed the house rules and always try to leave the place better than when we arrived but here I was walking on eggshells.
Flow through ventilation is excellent but bring ear plugs. Roosters will have you up at dark thirty.

The house floor plan is amazing, the view wonderful and the amenities in the house exceeded expectations. We loved the simplicity and functionality of it’s design.
I did enjoy the BBQ and will investigate buying the same make and model at home. The amenities and appliances supplied with the house exceeded expectations

Residence was well-designed for two couples, with separate bedrooms and attached bathrooms located on opposite ends of the top floor. Kitchen was well-stocked with dishes, glassware, and utensils as well as some supplies. View from the lanai was really impressive although weather in January is often cloudy with some rain in the evening hours. Used the hot tub a couple of times and the Weber grill once - both were in good shape. Ample supple of towels and stuff for the beach. Used the washer and dryer without any issues. Did not use the TV, but Internet access was very fast and reliable. Keep in mind that Hawai'i is known for free-range chickens and the roosters definitely remided us of that every morning! This home is really ideal for two couples on vacation to the Big Island.

Excellent property that is just not fully done justice to with the online listing photos. 5* throughout. Only slight issue I felt was a little over the top, was all the instruction labels on walls, doors , light switches etc. “ clean shower with, squidgy, due to water and mould” “shower before using hot tub or risk being charged 150$” just took edge off the stay, as sometimes you felt unable to relax as there was instructions everywhere. I appreciate this is a lovely property and you want to protect your investment, but instructions like “don’t play tv after 10pm with door to balcony open or police will be called and you will be evicted without refund” is a little over the top, possibly the lady downstairs “ the caretaker for this property” is the one that would call the police if you did break this curfew? I would recommend this property to anyone who is in town and wants an amazing property, comfy beds, great kitchen appliances, would give it 4.5/5 only because of excessive instruction labels. Thanks for a lovely stay and all the prompt responses.
Improvements that could possibly be made, some draws at side of master bed, and the lengthy agreement that is required to be signed should be sent before the cancellation and refund policy has long expired, to have to spend nearly an hour of my vacation reading a lengthy legal document only two days before I check in, isn’t my idea of relaxation and would have cancelled my booking as soon as I saw it if in the able to cancel period, as I’ve seen shorter legal documents for purchasing a property let alone a short term

Just got home from a week on the Big Island - and already miss morning coffee and sunrise on the lanai.
The house was perfect for our family of four. Lots of space to relax, play games and connect. We only cooked one breakfast but the kitchen was well-appointed and had everything one would need. Bedrooms are on opposite ends of the house which was great for us, each with a nice bathroom and waterfall shower.
The hot tub was a perfect beginning and ending to the day.
The location of the house was exactly what we were looking for...far enough away to feel away from it all yet close enough to get anywhere we wanted to go. The house overlooks a quiet neighborhood and, at night, the sounds of nature and the gentle breezes made for amazing sleep. Beach items (body boards, towels, toys, beach mats) were all available and made the trip even more enjoyable.
Great communication with the property owners and helpful tips to help us plan our visit. Can't wait to get back !

Amazing Property
Outstanding location, with spectacular views to be enjoyed from a huge lanai for the complete Hawaiian experience. Property was exactly as described and extremely well-equipped. A perfect base from which to enjoy the Big Island. Hosts offered some excellent suggestions for beaches, restaurants and activities that truly enhanced our stay. They were also extremely responsive when we had one very minor appliance issue that was fixed within hours of reporting. I cannot recommend this place strongly enough!

This house has an amazing view of the island/ocean. The house is very clean, had modern furnishings. Kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and even spices. They even had an espresso machine. The wide porch was great for enjoying the sunset. Owners provided recommendations for things to do and places to eat. We will definitely be back!

It's an amazing house to stay and relax. The lanai is amazing and the hot tub is perfect for those cloudy days or after a day at the beach. Location is perfect and communication was smooth. Would def stay again!

We love this unit! It is exceptionally beautiful and looks exactly as pictured in-person. The over-sized lanai is INCREDIBLE!

Check-in was easy and the unit was easy to find with our phone GPS. There is TONS of parking and we were even able to fully turn around in the massive driveway. There is a hose to clean your feet in the driveway (which was great for us as we were hiking and swimming in the ocean daily!). The hosts, Carola & Mikael, are very sweet and super fast at communicating. They responded to an issue we notified them about with the hot tub being rather dirty when we arrived and got a professional cleaning service to tend to the issue quickly. The have little labels posted through out house to explain where things are, what light switches operate what lights, etc. These labels were VERY helpful and thoughtful! The kitchen is very well stocked with anything you could ever need - espresso machine, pots/pans, oven, microwave and several other baking gadgets.
CONS:
Only one - that the hot tub was not usable when we arrived! I am guessing this was no one's specifically but we were a bit bummed as that was the primary reason we booked this unit. HOWEVER, we notified the hosts and the promptly resolved the issue.
Overall:
We would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat. Thank you!

STELLAR!
We had a fantastic stay in this fantastic home in beautiful Captain Cook. Everything is comfy, spacious, and peaceful! Fabulous views of the lush coast and the vast Pacific, gorgeous sunsets followed by super starry skies all accompanied by daytime birdsongs and nighttime coqui chirping.
You can’t be closer to the great snorkeling at Two Step and Captain Cook Bay. (We recommend early morning for much less crowds as well as the calmest and clearest waters. There are kayak rentals right at the end of Kahauloa road, 10 minutes away, right on the bay. But we opted for a really fun outrigger canoe trip with a local guide.).
The home is also conviently located to day trips to the Kohala beaches, Volcano National park, Mauna Kea, Hilo. A short ride into Kailua Kona, but away from the noise, traffic, and hustle.
To top it all off, every adventure was followed by calm relaxing on the spectacular lanai, dips in the hot tub, or quiet enjoyment of the modernist decor.
The home has everything you could need for a WONDERFUL stay!
