About this cottage rental
We discount for monthly stays from November to April. Please ask us about this discount before booking during this period of the year. I can send a special offer to you through VRBO.
Built in 2001, the cottage is designed for enjoying time inside and out during our spectacular summers. It rests in a quiet location 75 feet from high tide. Has 4 BDRMS and 3 bathrooms. No roads or ledges to traverse when walking down to our private beach. We are 25-35 minutes from Bar Harbor and 20 from Acadia National Park, and only 7 minutes from Bar harbor Airport and 35 from Bangor International Airport. WE HAVE HIGH SPEED INTERNET FROM Spectrum AND CABLE TV WITH A DVR. WE HAVE TWO FLAT SCREEN TVS. ONE IS IN THE LIVING ROOM THE OTHER IS IN THE DEN/BDRM.
OUTSIDE
The cottage faces the sunset and Blue Hill Mountain across the inter-coastal ocean area of Union River Bay and Blue Hill Bay. Wooden stairs step down to a typical Maine tidal zone, except for the brook on the south side of the property.
At low tide rocks draped in thick tangle of yellow-green and brown-purple seaweeds surround our pebble beach. These are called Rockweed and are an important part of our coastal ecosystem. The shore provides lots of chances for beach combing and exploring. A brook empties into the Bay on the south side of the property and encourages birds and other wildlife to visit.
A large deck and a balcony off the second-story bedroom are great places to picnic or for sitting still and enjoying songbirds, ducks, loons, gulls, eagles, on occasion some wild turkeys, squirrels, even seals, and osprey, depending on the time of year.

3 generationally together quite comfortably. The house is lovely and spotless. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. Two nice seating areas. Excellent access to the water for our kayaks. At low tide there’s a great pebbly beach. Convenient to Ellsworth shopping and Acadia for all its activities . Host was very helpful on a few occasions when we had question.

We had a great week at this home. A nice home base for trips into Acadia and Bar Harbor, but also nice to sit by the water and listen to the birds and watch the wildlife. The home was perfect for our needs, very clean, spacious, and comfortable! Thank you!

We loved our stay. I liked the layout of the house better than any Vrbo I've stayed in. Two of the bedrooms have wonderful views and small private bathrooms. The house was great for two couples (what we had) but could easily have been very comfortable for three couples, since the bedrooms are spaced out and all with bathrooms. The house faces west so the view of the sunsets are spectacular! We cooked local seafood every night and found the kitchen equipped enough to do so. There are small stretches of woods between the neighboring houses so the house and beach area feels very private. We loved the creek in the woods emptying into the ocean. And the tides are extreme enough that it was easy to have an evening fire below the tide line. Only blips were minor. Our disappointment that the wood stove in the house was off limits (ie insurance) And there was a neighbor with an unhealthy relationship with his leaf blower on several evenings.

We spent a week in this warm..cozy..homey gem of a house....gramma...my teen daughter and my older daughter and my son in law and my 2 grandkids..8 year twins. It was a perfect fit! We just loved it. Perfect distance away from the business of bar harbor but close enought to go there for dinner if we didnt feel like cooking. We will be back lord willing! Loved it!!! Thank you!!!

My family and I gave been vacationing in Maine quite frequently. We have stayed at many different locations and homes. Bayside cottage is by far our favorite. The home is spacious and immaculate. The location is very private. Acadia and the towns of Mount Desert Island are a short drive away. We rented kayaks and truly enjoyed the water only steps from the home. I can not recommend Bayside cottage enough. I hope to return in the future

The house and property were exactly as described. The water was easy to get down to. We had a lot of fun with the dogs in the water. Also kayaking in the bay. Everything was fairly easy to get to from here. It was so nice that the house was so well stocked with all the basics plus much more for a group of 6 adults. We would all love to come back again. We have also told many of our friends about this house for future vacations in Maine!

We stayed here for a recent family vacation and had a wonderful time. The house is located near Bar Harbor (25 min) and Acadia (20-30 mins, depending on where you're headed). After a day in the park, it was so nice to hang out in the backyard with its beautiful waterfront view. The house was clean and host was very easy to get in touch with. Would love to stay here again and recommend to anyone planning a trip to Maine!

A great place on the water. We saw three seals surface, a merganser with chicks, and many other species of birds. The house was well proportioned for the six of us. We very much enjoyed our week there.

Lovely waterfront setting, we could watch the inlet ice over and get snowed on as the temperature dropped . Well protected from the road by the trees. Easy access to town in about ten minutes
The house has pretty much everything you need for a comfortable stay , Lovely cozy interior with lots of space.

The house is beautiful and equipped with anything we needed. The grounds are beautiful, right on the water! Perfect for a group where everyone has their own space but the open space concept in the common area was perfect when we are dining. A wonderful place to be!

We had a wonderful week at the Bayside Cottage with my two mobility-restricted parents in their 70s, and two young children. Everyone across age groups thoroughly enjoyed our stay. As other reviewers have said, the cottage is more spacious than photos suggest and the waterfront provides endless opportunities for exploration. Acadia was packed when we visited, so we happily opted to spend most of our time at the house. Will return!

We had an amazing time. It was quiet, incredible sunsets, the house was clean, we saw a lot of wildlife, and it was right on the water/Ocean. It was in a great location. Acadia is a very busy place and after a day of exploring it was nice to come back to a quiet place to relax. I would highly recommend this place for your vacation.

This was our second time staying at the house. It is truly amazing . The house is so clean and cozy. The air conditioning really helps . My boys and dogs also had a great time going in the water. We absolutely love this house . It is close to all the sights . It is also on a very private location making it so relaxing. See you again next year.

The best home we’ve ever stayed in
I cannot speak highly enough about Bayside Cottage. From when I first made our reservation, to our communication after we checked out, a top notch experience.
The home is situated on Union River Bay, a short drive to grocery stores and restaurants in Ellsworth and 20-40 minutes to anywhere in Acadia National Park. The central location is superb. However, the true beauty of the location is being on Union River Bay. Whether you live in the city or suburbs, spend loads of time outdoors, or don’t prefer dirt - it is effortless to enjoy and sync with rhythm of nature at Bayside Cottage. The sunsets over the Bay are gorgeous, and it felt so natural for our days to align with the rhythm of the tides. It is 10+ feet between high and low tide. Every 12 hours when the tide was low, we ventured out to the shore to explore, and see what we see. Bayside Cottage is a great spot to tide pool. We saw many of the regular tidal zone creatures and also lucked out seeing a lion’s mane jelly fish and elvar (young eel). If you like puttering around on the shore like we did, you’re certain to find sea glass.
We rented kayaks for half the week we were there, from a local company that delivers and picks up. We loved being able to paddle right out our back door.
If you intend to tide pool or kayak/canoe, close toed water shoes (crocs, keens, etc) are a must.
This trip was myself, my husband, and our two elementary aged boys. The home is very spacious, we had more than enough room. We all loved exploring all the books in the home, as well as the game room. We cooked many of our meals at the home and the kitchen is very nicely equipped. It was an easy drive to go to different areas of Acadia National Park.

Amazing and immaculate
The house was so nice and super clean. The layout is so open and much bigger than the pictures. Our family ands dogs had the most amazing time. The fact that we had AC units made the house so cool . Defiantly booking again .

Peaceful Maine Getaway
We love Acadia and everything it has to offer and have traveled here many times over the years. This house is the perfect combination of close enough to Acadia for easy access but far enough away for peace and quiet. We were there during a heat wave and really appreciated the a/c units and being able to come home to a nice cool environment after being out hiking and biking all day. We were there at the height of mosquito season and had to use a lot of bug spray when hanging out on the deck. So be warned!

Perfect Fall Family Vacation
This home was perfect for our family; 5 adults and 2 grandkids. Relaxing, homey, comfortable, spacious, convenient with wonderful sunrise/sunset’s on Union Bay. We rented kayaks from a local spot. We were on the water several times a day with the ease of beach right there at the house! We will definitely be back!!

This home has everything needed for a long stay.Lots of towels, kitchen well equipped and lots of books and games. The view was amazing. However mosquitoes were horrible making it difficult to sit outside at night and enjoy the sunset.Tiki torches or fire pit would be recommended to decrease mosquitoes. The house is VERY dated and needs some TLC. ( toilet seat taped together, furniture very used, one bath was very stained from use and the other had mold around bottom of door)Kitchen microwave and cabinets need a good wipe down as well does the area along lower cabinet over hang (lots of food crumbs, dust and dirt)We also had an issue with spiders during our stay.Several in sinks and showers. The home does not have central air conditioning. It would have been nice to open windows for the breeze . However the screens do not fit correctly. They are for older windows. The town and area are nice. The drive to downtown Bar Harbor was at least 30 min and 25 to most parts of Acadia area. We did not mind the drive because we wanted to be on the water and have some privacy.

Beautiful retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The house is beautiful and so well stocked. It's close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia to venture there whenever you want, but far enough away to enjoy the peace and quiet of the bay. I would definitely recommend this property!

This Property is Sublime
When we arrived at this spot it took our breath away and continued to enchant us for the entire week. The house is fabulous-spacious and comfortable with private spaces to sit and read. The kitchen is a real working kitchen and is fitted out with utensils and serving dishes better than any place we have ever rented. The water views are beautiful and the sunsets each night were worthy of many Instagram posts and newly invented cocktails. The beds were comfortable and everyone slept very well. And added to all this -the location! -minutes from grocery stores, lobster pounds and amazing hiking trails. But you don’t really need to go anywhere. We rented some big kayaks and toured the bay, explored the rocks and seaweed at low tide and swam at high tide. Wonderful!

Definitely Recommend
Jay’s property is comfortable, clean and beautiful inside and out. The main living areas flank the water allowing views from every location. I spent hours on the deck while my son spent hours exploring the cove. He even enjoyed exploring the creek onsite as an added bonus! The house has all the necessities to just jump in and enjoy - I successfully did my first lobster boil there too with all the essentials provided.
I really can’t rave enough about this gem - secluded enough to feel total serenity on the water but all points of interest a half hour away, with Walmart a close ten minutes away. I would definitely recommend choosing this property for your Maine adventure.
A couple other pointers - order Walmart pick up on your way in. Fresh fish and seafood from Parsons. My son loved the single jacuzzi tub in the main bath downstairs for nightly baths and the walk in shower in the second first floor bathroom was appreciated by my elderly parents. Also, there isn’t any A/C here which wouldn’t be a problem usually but we were there in during a heat wave - each bedroom did have its own big plug in fan to use as needed.
I’ll never forget our first drive up the wooded driveway to see it open up to the house and water when we arrived. We all hopped out and ran to the water before anything else. Thank you for sharing your property Jay!

Nice place. Big enough for our family without feeling crowded. Good waterfront, the kids loved the water and I found a place to launch our kayaks. Give it a try, you will like it.

Beautiful Home, Beautiful Location
Our family could not have been more satisfied with our stay in Jay's property in Elsworth. Everything, from the layout of the house, to the waterfront view, made for a picture-perfect stay in Maine. The pictures really don't do the place justice. We had so many fun nights watching the sunset over the bay, followed by waking up early to catch low-tide and explore the tide pools. Each member of our family was happy with the experience and we would recommend this house to anyone. Further, we were in a great location for easily accessing and exploring both Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, despite being there at peak season.
The lack of AC was the only minor negative, but I suspect that had more to do with the fact that it was unusually warm the week we were there (lower 90s some day) and normally I don't believe that area feels so warm.

This was my family's 3rd vacation at Bayside. We love the proximity to Acadia for daily hikes and enjoy the serenity of the water views and private location. If you go make sure to rent kayaks or canoes so you can enjoy the water and all of it's wildlife. This year the seals were very active each morning! The home is very clean with lots of sunlight. We particularly enjoy the deck and grill as well as the fully stocked kitchen. The home has plenty of private nooks if you are traveling with extended family or friends. We consider Bayside our home each summer and wish we could stay longer....a very special place!

A wonderful getaway cottage
This house is great if you want peace and quiet, but yet it is close to area attractions. We have stayed here several times due to proximity to Acadia National Park and easy access to the coast to the north and south. We love the setting, on the water, and the peace and quiet, being set back and shrouded by trees. The house is spacious, comfortable, and well supplied with amenities for daily living. The wifi and cable tv are nice additions. We enjoyed watching wild turkeys stroll through the yard and seeing loons and herons on the water. With an outstanding view and comfortable beds, this place is hard to beat. Very comfortable.

Wonderful House!
My wife and I spent a week with two other couples. The house is spacious with plenty of privacy, with common areas nice and open. The new bathroom gives everyone access to their own (except for showering.) Plenty of deck space and lawn in the back, and access to the bay is great.
We biked, hiked, and kayak during our stay, and the house is close enough to Bar Harbor and NP, but far enough away to be away from the tourist hustle and bustle. While kayaking from the house we saw seals, a heron, an eagle, and an osprey (while catching fish!)
The house has a well-stocked kitchen, and is spotless. My only wish is that we could have stayed longer.

Private, Beautiful View
Comfortably slept 5 adults and 2 children. Had a beautiful view and nice porch for dining. We thought it was close enough but not too close to area attractions. We spent a lot of time in Acadia NP and was only about 20min drive. There was a lot to do in Bar Harbor but it was a very busy little town and I appreciate the privacy this rental had over the rentals we had looked at elsewhere. It was only about 4 miles to nearest grocery store so that was a plus and had everything we needed to cook meals so we weren't constantly eating out. The only suggestion I have which doesn't pertain to the rental is if you plan to do excursions book them in advance it seemed everything we checked on was sold out or had limited availability. The was a nice fun park close by for the kids to enjoy only about 10 min away.

Beautiful Getaway, Perfect Location
Had a wonderful 3 week stay in this spacious and comfortable home near Acadia National Park. The location was quiet and secluded - but close to grocery and restaurants in Trenton and Ellsworth. The house has so much room, you can fit 8 people easily without tripping over each other. The kitchen is fully stocked with anything you might need, there's a new washer/dryer and excellent wireless internet. Plenty of room in the expansive backyard with a grill for outdoor cooking and an AMAZING view. Reservations were quick, easy and comprehensive, and the owner and caretaker both checked on us throughout our stay.
The property is an easy 15-minute drive from Acadia - giving you all of the benefits without any of the crowds. I would definitely return to this rental in the future!

Wonderful extended family vacation
My husband and I, our son and daughter-in-law (really our second daughter), two of our grandsons, and a family friend, had the opportunity to spend two weeks at this lovely house. Their family dog, our "granddog", enjoyed the water accessibility and provided us with many laughs. We bought kayaks and a small motor boat and were able to access the water easily. We made almost daily trips to Bar Harbor and Acadia which were heavenly. The weather was extremely nice with only two days of rain. There is so much to do and see. The local churches were warm and welcoming to us. Everyone enjoyed the whole ritual of buying, cooking and eating lobsters! Local restaurants offered a variety of foods which made everyone happy. The restaurant we would recommend is Helens in Ellsworth, nice people, good food and reasonable prices. The art work in the house is stunning, mostly works by Adija. Her work is available online, as we found out. The only difficult thing to deal with was the poor internet service. We enjoyed ourselves and encourage you to stay at this Bayside house.

A Great Place!
We loved the Bayside House! The property was very private and close to the water, and the house was clean and welcoming. It wasn't too far from MDI and we pretty much drove there everyday to hike or visit the shops and restaurants. I wish we would have been able to stay longer!
