About this house rental
The Art Lover's Retreat is located in the Santa Barbara foothills one block from beautiful nature trails in a very quiet and peaceful neighborhood. Owned by a Parisian Art Dealer, the home is beautifully decorated with eclectic 20th century European and American Artwork, some of which is available for purchase. Additionally the house is uniquely furnished with an open floor plan where you can delight your taste buds in the gourmet kitchen, curl up next to the open fireplace or just relax in the living room while simultaneously enjoying family and friends in the fun and sophisticated environment. There is also a lovely private back yard where you can enchant yourself in the delightful gardens or soak in the sunshine... there is so much to enjoy at the Art Lover's Retreat.
Downtown Santa Barbara is just minutes away for enjoying world class dining, live theatre, music, wine tasting and nightlife. Beautiful, pristine Pacific Ocean beaches are just 10 minutes from your door.
I might mention that Santa Barbara is a beautiful lush tropical fertile area. I have a very large garden, that like other properties in our town, gets the occasional visit from local wildlife. There are owls, birds, especially hummingbirds, raccoons, rabbits, small rodents, and other little beasts.(never had a cayote, but others have) They have save once never enter the house (a small bird flew in years ago.) there is also numerous spiders, and the occasional ant. There is not a house in this city that does not have an ant nor spider from Harry and Megan's to public housing...If you have a morbid fear of other living creatures, keep looking...Just to be clear.
The Art Lover's retreat is perfect for family reunions, corporate events and other get-togethers. Available year round in Santa Barbara's legendary Mediterranean climate, the Art Lover's Retreat...your home away from home, awaits you.

The owner Alex was very responsive and communicates well. He was genuinely concerned and proactively put up a baby fence to block the stair case when he knew there were little children in our group.

Great location and comfortable home
This is a very cool property that is accurately depicted by the listing description. Both the owner and property manager are highly responsive and assistive. The layout of the house is great and very comfortable. Furnishings in the house are post modern with some really interesting and original pieces. Artwork is eclectic and wide ranging. Very fun and original.

Wedding
Six of us stayed at the house for four days to attend a wedding. The home was pretty much as listed on website. The bedrooms were all a good size and very comfortable. The house has plenty of open spaces for people to gather and socialize. Weather was perfect, warm days and cool nights. Alex, the owner, was very responsive to all our needs. Some of the furniture could use an upgrade. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Eclectic, artistic home.
Alex was fantastic and kind. Easy to get a hold of and very responsive. His home was a great place to stay and relax. The hiking at the end of the road was fantastic. Close to everything we needed in S.B!
Thanks Alex.

Exquisite retreat
The name of the house is apropos, as it truly is a beautiful art lover's retreat. It was a special experience to be surrounded by such an eclectic and refined collection of contemporary art. Each room was unique and special. The common living areas and the backyard were great places to hang out and relax. Alex was a tremendous host. He accommodated our early arrival and was super friendly as he showed us around his house.

Spider Web and Insect Lovers Dream
See link below for real pics of this disguisting place!
My family and I decided to book a property in Santa Barbara during the Thanksgiving weekend, and saw that this property was still available. It looked fairly clean and well taken care of from the pictures, but it wasnt the case when we got there. Upon arriving, we were greeted by a lady who gave us a quick tour of the property; walked us around the rooms, showed us some locations of items, and pointed out the wifi code. Before leaving, she gave up a piece of paper from 2006 that had coffee stains and told us to contact her with any questions. It wasnt until about an hour later that the rest of the family arrived and settled in. Ive listed the disguisting conditions of the house and even posted pictures below. Now keep in mind, the owner said that the place was "lightly buffed." lol.
1) The bbq was not cleaned at all, and in fact, the utensils still had stains.
-Owner responded that all we had to do was call and they would have sent someone to show me the "new utensils in the kitchen."
- Yes, I should have to call to find NEW AND CLEAN utensils? Does that even make sense? Shoudlnt everything already be clean upon my arrival? Isnt that what you charge the "Cleaning Fee" for? Or do you pocket that?
2) There were bugs all over the house, including the top of the shower, over the dining room table lights, as well as spider webs all over the house.
- Owner responded that all i had to do was call and they would have "gladly sent someone over to remove the daddy long leggs."
- If the place was really clean, would there really have been spider webs, daddy long legs and other insects all over the house? lol... the place was of course, "lightly buffed."
3) The heater barely works downstairs and the people sleeping downstairs froze.
4) Place indicates sleeping for 10, but only 4 beds. You do the math.
5) Living room couch and chairs have no support and cushions are practically destroyed.
6) Feel free to see the pictures attached and see how disguisting and unsanitry the place is and how its kept!
I tried to post pics, but HomeAway wouldnt let me! Trust me, compare my review against the other person's 1 Star review and you will see! You'd be disgusted!

The house was spacious and there was plenty of room for all 10 members of our group. The living area and kitchen are very open and perfect for a group who wants to spend time together. The house is filled with interesting art...lots of conversation pieces. We had a wonderful stay and I would definitely stay here again when in the area!

Great Place to Stay in SB!
Alex's house was the perfect size for our group of 7 (although it could definitely accommodate a few more people if your group is a bit larger). It's in a very quiet neighborhood about 10 minutes away from State Street! The house has everything you could need, including a well-stocked kitchen, plenty of towels and linens, and eclectic decor. Thanks for having us Alex!

Charming and Comfortable
We had a great time staying at this house. It was large and had plenty of space for us 9 girls on a bachelorette party weekend. It was also cozy and definitely had charm with all the art around the house. The girls were a bit unnerved by a few spider sightings but you're up in the quiet of the hills so that could be expected. The host was very communicative and helpful throughout the whole process.

Unique and spacious find in SB
We really enjoyed our stay at the Art Lovers Retreat. We were welcomed by the owner to an open and airy space with music playing through the Sonos speakers! Lots of space with the 4 bedrooms plus den to accomadate 10 adults. Very eclectic and interesting art throughout the house too. Thanks for a great stay!

A beautiful, secluded retreat for the whole family
This house was perfect for our trip with the entire family - grandparents, children, and grandchildren. Our group of 6 adults and 4 kids was very comfortable here. The location is a little out of town but a 10-15 minute drive ($20 uber ride) to anywhere you want to go and it provided the kind of quiet seclusion that you couldn't get downtown or near the harbor.

Comfortable, eclectic home
Some amazing art on the walls! Despite the staircase our 1 and 3 year old grandsons managed well. They stayed out of the multiple shelves and enjoyed the large den as a play space. Beds were comfortable. The weather was a little chilly for outside living (large open yard) but the adults enjoyed one evening of patio ping pong. The landscaping is a marvel, especially for a Midwesterner. Plenty of cookery items (and cookbooks galore) if you want to cook--but it is Santa Barbara. (My grown children recommend the Mesa Verde vegetarian restaurant.) Overall, a very pleasant stay.

Cozy, outfitted, and great for curiosity!
Alex was so kind and warm throughout the process from booking to check in through the stay and check out. What a great value for a house that provides easy access to Santa Barbara for a large group that wants to be together but not break the bank. Our family of 9 adults stayed here comfortably over Thanksgivng. His kitchen is fully stocked, making Thanksgiving meal a breeze. The wood burning fire and sonos sound system rounded out all of the creature comforts. And as you can tell by the pictures, Alex has an impressive art collection on display, giving an extremely unique experience for any group! Thank you and we hope to stay again some time.
