Amazing! We spent most of August 2023 at this beach house on Martinique Beach - partly working, and partly on vacation.
The house is beautiful and airy, nicely decorated, well maintained, well laid out, and very clean. The location is absolutely spectacular. Even though we got a pretty damp August, we loved the views, walks on the 5 km beach, sunset glasses of wine on the upper deck, and several gorgeous beach days with surfing, sunning and swimming.
It was a great getaway. Some days we saw maybe 8 people on the beach all day, and on hot sunny days it was busier, but never crowded. Even though we felt like we were in a special spot away from it all, the house is just 12 minutes from a great coffee shop in Musquodoboit Harbour, and 25 minutes from the Atlantic Superstore in Porters Lake.
Michael and Lisa were very responsive to our inquiries and also helped with a couple special requests.
Highly recommend this rental (although we almost hope not too many people discover it :-)

This is an awesome location and property. Clean, well equipped, private and comfortable. Beach view can not be beat! We miss the waves already!

Wonderful beach house
Wonderful beach house!
Perfect for a surf trip (the waves are constant, and right in front of the house) with friends or family. We taught our 6yo to surf there, and the best surfers from our group caught really great waves as well.
Perfect house for our group of 2 families of 4 (3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms). Big kitchen where we cooked 3 meals a day for 11 days. The downstairs space has a ton of windows, so you get to see the ocean all the time. The upstairs playroom is perfect to let the kids play, especially with the carpet.
We’ll definitely come back!

Beautiful Beach House
This is a fabulous house and property. Kitchen very well equipped. Information package comprehensive. The house is both spacious and cosy. The view is magnificent. I hope the house did not suffer any damage during Hurricane Dorian.

We would go back in heartbeat
Beautiful location - quiet, near reserve, sleepy beach, kitchen had all our needs, top porch was perfect for relaxing, set up house was great with two large bedrooms downstairs and then the upstairs with relaxation area.

Wonderful location, awesome service, cottage even better than the pictures. Overall perfect!
We had a wonderful time with two families in Pat and Michael’s cottage. We were two families who gathered for my mother’s birthday, and everyone was overly satisfied with the property. It is extremely well equiped with everything you would want or need in a beach cottage, and very well designed as well. Even though we were 10 people in it, we never felt squeezed whatsoever. The overall cleanliness is wonderful. Pat is always available on short notice for anything we need, and is a great source of infos for everything around the place.
Being two families of surfers, the location doesn’t get any better; easy dawn and dusk patrol, surfing whenever the waves were good.
All in all, I am looking forward to my next stay very much. Highly recommended.
Many thanks!
Matt

3rd time in paradise
This is the third time we rented here (first time in 2013, then again in 2017, now again in 2019).
iT IS THAT AWESOME.
I almost hesitate to write such a glowing review because it will undoubtedly be harder to get our week next time.
The owners (Michael, and Patrick & Jess) are super, the accommodations are first-rate but the most amazing thing is the Atlantic just outside your door. Over the dune and you're there. Often times, just you and the ocean.
First thing in the morning at daybreak is my favorite time. The light is best then for photos (no matter the weather). Big mug of coffee and go for a walk. Just you and the sound of the waves.
If you're up for a "big walk" there's the trip on the big beach to the end of the provincial park. My stepper app said 5 miles there and back again. Sometimes on the walk, I saw one other person not from my group. It's honestly like having your own private beach.
Other days (weekends) were a little busier ... but you could always find lots of room to "just be".
The place comfortably sleeps 10 (we're a family of 5) ... so we let the kids invite a friend each and we invited some old friends along as well. 10 of us and it didn't feel crowded at all.
Somehow I need to figure out how to be there long term... already planning our return trip.
P.S.
The guys at the Halifax Surf Shop (just up the road) had great reasonable rentals (surf and SUP boards). Highly recommend.
P.P.S
Harbor Fish'n Chips right at the E Petepeswick turn ... awesome!
P.P.P.S
Polar Bear Express Ice Cream ... across from Harbor Fish'n Chips... great stop.

Beautiful ocean views!
This is truly a special cottage. It is designed so that you can easily accommodate up to three couples as each bedroom has it’s own bathroom pretty much. Two bedrooms on the main floor with queen beds and a large room upstairs with four singles. The upstairs also has a large family room with a TV and a patio looking out over the ocean. Downstairs has a large eat in kitchen and a sitting room as well as the 2 other bedrooms. Outside the front door is a very long and large deck which is covered and is a perfect spot for just sitting and watching the ocean waves which are non stop. Around the corner is a really nice bbq and also a screened in porch. The little beach directly in front is maybe 50 yards away and if you go over the little rocky peninsula you can walk Martinique Beach for something like 3 miles.
The only drawback for me was that the ocean water temperature was around 12 degrees Celsius and too cold for me to swim in but the surfers in their wetsuits seemed to be enjoying themselves! I was there in the middle of July so I don’t imagine that it ever gets any warmer than this so if you are looking for strictly a beach holiday this is probably not the place for you.
I was there with my two young adult kids and their partners along with two young grandkids. It worked out great for us and we really enjoyed the week!

Return vacation. Better than we'd remembered.
We had stayed in 2013 and the family wanted to come back. So we did. It was awesome.
The second trip was in a way, even better than the first holiday. We knew exactly what to expect and maximized our time there. We brought food from the grocery, board games, boogie boards, and books. Then we tried our best to do nothing and relax. It was AWESOME!
An added bonus this trip was a gourmet food truck (called the Bandwagon in Facebook) that set up every day a quick 5 minute walk over in the public beach area.
The surf shop (Happy Dudes) just a minute up the road was convenient to grab a board when there were good waves. Even a few hours surfing was awesome!
A couple more tips.
The bbq on site might be the nicest bbq I've ever used. You can definitely enjoy some gourmet meals prepared here.
We brought hammocks (the parachute type) and strung them up between posts on the deck. Nothing quite like falling asleep outdoors in the breeze to the sound of the ocean.
There is internet... but not really high capacity. I actually told the kids there wasn't internet so they didn't ask. Not that they were on their devices very much at all... it was almost literally an unplugged vacation.

Exceptional
We travel with a group of friends and spend summers in Maine or other parts of New England. By far this was one of the most amazing vacations for us. The home is beautiful, extremely well maintained and in an excellent location. In our week there, we were able to travel through many parts of Nova Scotia. Frankly it was just as much fun to sit on the porch and enjoy the view. The owners are extremely accommodating and helpful both prior to the trip and during it. I would recommend it to both families and friends.

FAMILY PARADISE
This was an opportunity to gather the family under one roof for seven days and nights; close enough to home for work, appointments and some sleeps; far enough away to sit back, relax, and enjoy the surf, the sand, and the fresh breezes. Surfing was ideal most any time of day, rain or shine; easy access to the beach ideal for little ones, ( sand quickly washed off in the outdoor shower); and the comfortable beds conducive to deep sleeps each night.
The house was solid, clean, and comfortable. The views from the windows and decks amazing. The neighbors quiet and friendly. For us, it was ideal.

The best holiday location - beyond all expectations. Amazing. Just amazing.
We stayed this year for one week in the middle of August. The pictures on the web site do not do the cottage itself justice, and the location on the beach itself is incredible.
First the cottage: very well appointed and clean. Everything is modern and kept up very well. You can tell the owners take a lot of pride in their properties. Beyond the stuff you see on the web site two awesome features.
First an outdoor room that is screened in - the comfy outdoor furniture was here and this is where I and my wife would end up first thing in the morning to enjoy a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise over the ocean. Daybreak, sea birds, sound of the ocean. Paradise. Once the sun got a little higher in the sky it was time to pull the comfy outdoor furniture to the front deck where you could lounge in the sun or shade and pick up a good book and forget the world for a while.
The second most favorite place is the upstairs deck. We happened to be at the cottage the two nights of the Perseid meteor shower. I and the kids spent about three hours in the adirondack chairs staring up at the sky watching shooting stars. "Daddy, what are those funny clouds up there? Oh that's the Milky Way"
The beach / ocean : every day started with and ended with a long walk. New things washed up on the shore, shells, urchins, sand dollars, crabs.... The kids (chronically) came back with creatures and explored all the time. We swam, body boarded, rented wet suits at the surf shop up the road (very reasonable by the way) rented a surf board and one of the kids even stood up after only 3 days of persistent attempts. The beach is really the star attraction - we walked the entire (walkable) length and it is every bit of 5 kilometers there and 5 kilometers back. Time for a nap.
Then the location. 35 minutes to Dartmouth - lots of shopping and grocery options in between. I only point that out because even though it is remote - it is definitely close enough to anything you might want to do or see. But once you have enought groceries for a few days, there really is no reason to leave.
Fantastic value. Great owners. The caretakers introduced themselves and checked in a couple times to make sure everything was going well but other than that left us alone.
Will definitely stay there again - and feel very lucky to have found this place.

Just what we were looking for!
This cottage is lovely--so spacious and warm and really nicely laid-out. There were lots of choices of places to go to just sit, to read, to watch TV, to eat, to write (even to work--if one must). We certainly didn't feel like we were on top of each other! What we really treasured was the proximity to that amazing beach. You can get mesmerized by the waves crashing in on the beach and just sit and watch for ages. Or walk/run the whole distance and come back and go swimming. Or just watch the surfers try again and again to catch that special wave. Or maybe you'll be really lucky and see dolphins playing in the water just out your window.
Halifax/Dartmouth is close by and great for day trips. We ate at Chives and Jane's on the Common, both excellent choices. There's a little gallery in Musquodoboit in the old schoolhouse where you might find a unique souvenir to take home. There's also a wonderful folk art gallery/shop at West Jeddore called the Black Sheep that features Nova Scotia artists.
But, truth is, you may not want to go too far because, as one friend said while sitting on the beach sipping wine, "It doesn't get much better than this!"

Expectations Exceded!!
This is a beautiful home, warm and cozy decor and incredibly comfortable. You will want for nothing, except to be able to stay longer. Plenty of room for all 6 adults. Great central location with easy access to Halifax. Easy drive to the wine region of Annapolis valley, highly recommend visiting Luckitt Winery, great view of the valley while you enjoy good wine and food on the patio. Lunenburg, Peggy's Cove, and Chester are all within a reasonable drive. While in this area, have a lobster dinner in the old dance hall in Hubbards, the atmosphere and history are well worth it. Enjoy an incredible walk on the entire beach all the way to the point you can see from the porch, not as far as it looks. I cannot say enough about this idyllic little gem we discovered.

Restful vacation
This is an excellent property -- away from touristy areas. Sound of the waves to lull you asleep at night. Watch the hawks dive for fish from the kitchen window or porch. It's also an absolutely perfect place for family. Kids can sleep upstairs and have their own little TV room in the evenings while parents relax with wine in the downstairs livingroom. Also able to watch the kids on the beach from the porch or deck. Great boogie boarding shop down the road to rent equipment. Slip into Musquodoboit to buy fresh lobster or fish. Close to Halifax if you want to whip into the city for a romantic dinner out.

Nantucket
This was a great place for our family to stay. The house is fantastic - lots of space, beautiful veranda and deck. There is nothing like Martinque Beach on a sunny summer day - you can walk forever, kids love to play in the sand. Absolutely unbeatable location on this beach. The photos are accurate and the place is well maintained by the owners and caretakers. Great spot for a family vacation.
