HEATING: This lovely home has a unique heating system. A passive heating system using thermal/solar panels heats the home quite well throughout the day and well into the night - in fact, it can get pretty toasty on a sunny day, but opening window vents and doors to let in the ocean breeze cools the house nicely if it gets too warm. There's a wood stove in the living room which is the main heat source in the winter. The upstairs bedroom also has a baseboard heater, and the downstairs uses space heaters.
- Wood Stove Directions: Please be sure to bring wood and kindling with you as we do not provide it. We will provide fire starters which you can light with the long lighter. Wood can be purchased close by at the Dillon Beach General Store or the Tomales General Store, but we recommend purchasing on your way to Dillon Beach.

I had to call to get instructions on how to get into the rental. The information was never provided. We were missing bed sheets and called for extra sheets as we could not locate any in the rental. We called at 10:00pm, so not to late, there was never a response and we just had to get along without linens. No follow up at all. Very disappointing and unprofessional.

We had a wonderful stay at the Abalone Alcove house. Our teenage boys got plenty of practice on the pool table and could almost beat us by the end of our week. The design of the house was perfect so our kids could really be on the lower level and we could our own little getaway upstairs. It was just what we needed and more than we hoped for.

I rented this property at the end of May. A week and a half before my rental was to start, my husband was admitted to the hospital for a serious condition. I appealed to the host for a merciful refund or partial refund. No response. After two days I told host I assumed she said no. A day after that she replied that unfortunately my request came with in the 60 days needed to make a refund. I didn't even make the rental before 60 days. I needed help entering the property. Called the number. the people at the desk of the management company running this rental had no clue how to help me and it took about half an hour to get the info to enter.No parking passes, when informed they said they would get on it. Never heard from them. I have been a frequent star guest of Vrbo's. This place is not worth the lack of empathy and disregard I experienced.

Classic house in the style of coastal construction in the 70s/80s. Think classic Sea Ranch aesthetic with interesting history and heating. We had a wonderful and relaxing week. Long walks, hot tub, family meals. Kitchen is well equipped.

We love this home and this is our second stay. It always stuns us when we walk through the front door and are greeting by the amazing views of the ocean and Tamales Bay.
The only negative comments are:
1) The closet doors in the downstairs bedrooms are loose and swing inward and are difficult to manage.
2) The coffee pot leaked a couple of times.
Otherwise everything was perfect and we can't wait to return!!

The house is decent, and the view is beautiful. The bed on the top floor is a rock. There was no mention of a washer/dyer being unavailable and in the guest info, it said to use only if absolutely necessary however there was no access. There are a few things that could use repairs. I will bring this up to the property management. I don’t personally love all the rules of Dillon Beach. I think if you want to have a family gathering it should be permitted. I probably would not stay here again for that reason.

When we first entered the residence, there was a strong smell of urine that went away after opening the windows, and allowing it to air out. The living room had a cracked window and the bedroom upstairs windows would not open and the house got really warm during the day which brought back the smell of urine. There were a couple screens that had rips in them and a few stains in the carpet the hot tub was 145 days past due for water change, and there is no gas station at Dillon Beach but everything else was better than expected in the end. We enjoyed the house very much and look forward to staying there again.

Abalone Alcove in Dillon Beach was EVERYTHING and more! We decided to venture out to Dillon Beach to celebrate our 17-year anniversary. We took our Dad and dog with us to celebrate with us. There is nothing like walking into a home and the first thing you see is nothing but the ocean. We were very fortunate to secure a last-minute booking for this home. I tell you this place does not disappoint! We had the BEST weather for the 3 days that we stayed and never once turned on the heater because the sun warms up the entire house with all the windows. The pictures of the home are spot on and having a pool table/game room was a nice touch as we like to play pool and try to make impossible shots! It was a 2 bedroom home with a King and Queen bed which is always a nice touch. The neighborhood is perfect. The homes all had wonderful curb appeal and the general store is convenient for quick things you may run out of. We made a day trip to Bodega Bay (a very short drive) and took our dog down to the beach one day for some playtime. Lots of deer run freely in Dillon Beach and around the property which makes you appreciate where you are. This is the 2nd property we have rented in the Dillon Beach area and so far is the big winner! We will definitely be back to visit this lovely home in the future! Thank you again for sharing this special home with us!

We only had a few days at the Abalone Alcove, and they were lovely. Beautiful views of the ocean and bay. Would love to spend more time here.
The home is a bit dated, but very comfortable & clean. Owner provides a parking pass to reach the beach area. We cooked and grilled and owners provided everything we needed for that. FYI, shop before arriving, as there is very little nearby that would equal a full on grocery.
Easy day trips to vineyards and oceanside. Look forward to returning.

This rental fully met our expectations. Super clean & organized w/ spectacular views. The walk too/from the beach kicked out butts due to the large hill. But a small price to pay on the weekend when the line of folks in cars waiting to enter the beach parking lot was HUGE & we were able to walk right in w/o paying. Love that the restaurant in town offers water bowls for the pooches, & the store has a yummy selection of ice cream treats. We did the bioluminescence kayak tour through Blue Waters Kayaking in Tomales Bay which was the highlight of our trip. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us!

This home worked perfectly for our family of five plus our four legged boy! The main bedroom was upstairs and the other was downstairs with a pool table, tv, and plenty of movies and entertainment. Plenty of board games too! We drove down to the public beach and enjoyed the tide pools! I grew up coming here so Dillon Beach has a,ways been a magical place for me!

The view is extraordinary. Breathtaking really. The house is in great shape, and is quite interesting. Pieces of the history of the home adorn the walls for those interested. This is a perfect place for a romantic getaway, or a small family trip to the coast!

You can’t beat waking up to the view of Dillon Beach from Abalone Alcove. Every room on the top level has a spectacular vista. The kitchen is well equipped and the pool table provided lots of fun. The house is in need of updating but overall worked well for us. The hot tub was a nice addition as it was a bit cool and rainy. It was a little disappointing not to have a view. The tub is located inside a walled courtyard and when the cover is lifted, the small window with a view is blocked. Towels were not provided, as clearly stated, for outdoor purposes, but for those of us traveling from afar, it sure would have been a nice option.
All said, we would definitely return.

We all absolutely loved this home! The view is just incredible, nothing beats it. The home was clean and comfortable. Easy access to town and the beach. Although it's close, it's not really walkable because the road up to the house is very steep. Overall we had a lovely stay and can't wait to come back again!

I rented Abalone Alcove to host friends from out of town who had never been to the ocean before. Our stay was from Thursday night to Sunday morning and we lucked out with some great weather during this normally cloudy, cold October. The house was quite clean, came with a kitchen stocked with necessities like spices, salt/pepper, and a full complement of kitchen supplies, and also included some things that I suspect previous guests left behind, like yeast, tea/coffee, etc. We were also given some welcoming snacks and a bottle of sparkling water, which was a pleasant surprise. Our stay was very relaxing, with an upstairs and a downstairs and several comfortable nooks and crannies where people could find some quiet time to read or get away from the group. We played pool and enjoyed the hot tub (though for some reason the cover of the hot tub comes up so that it blocks the only window off the porch area, thus blocking the only possible view from there). There was also an outdoor grill which we didn't use, but which looked fully serviceable. Internet was fast and reliable. The house was easy to warm and while space heaters were provided for the rooms we used them mostly for enjoyment, not because they seemed necessary. The wildlife viewing from the house was spectacular! We saw deer, fawns, raccoon, quail, red-shouldered and red-tailed hawk, kestrel, and turkey vultures all from the comfort of the sitting room window.This is definitely a house to enjoy the view, and not one for easy (walking) access to the beach. The house is up a steep hill and it's about a 15 minute walk downhill. This is not a walk for people unused to walking and hiking back up to the house should only be attempted if you are healthy with good lungs and walking muscles. The house includes a parking pass for the neighborhood, which is great for parking at the bottom of the hill and avoiding the $10 parking fee at the beach. Overall we had a wonderful weekend!
