We traveled to Costa Rica and villa Casa Mia with our whole family to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary (July 20). Our group of 19 ages from 2 1/2 to 71. My wife and I had stayed at the villa before with a group of 15 in 2020, so we knew the villa would be perfect for the family. The rooms are wonderful beds are very comfortable.
Carlos and Nicole are great to deal with and will help with any problem you have. We hired Erik to cook and plan our excurtions and transportation from the airport. He was awesome! Went horseback riding on the beach, did the monkey tour, surfing lessons, trip to a private beach for the day with a cookout on the beach, deep sea fishing (our group caught amberjack and wahoo) and snorkling. We played games as the villa has great locations to sit and visit.
The pool was used at least 3 times per day! Kids loved it and so did the adults.
The anniversary dinner Erik cooked was wonderful and he even had a small 4 man Costa Rican band.
Sonja the maid is great cleaning all the time and she will also do your laundry for a small fee.
Having a small convience store down the street and nice beach bars and restaurants also a plus.
The place is awesome and the beach with surfing and great sunsets another plus.
Couldn't recommend it more! We had a blast.

Our family of 20 people, from babies to grandmas, spent our reunion here and we had a fantastic time. The hosts are super accommodating and had lots of ideas for where we might want to visit. We hired their recommended driver a for the week, which meant we didn't have to think about transportation. Chef Liza put out an amazing breakfast and dinner for us every day. It was better than any of the restaurants we tried, and she even made extra dishes for the little kids who are picky eaters. Our housekeeper Sonia took care of all the cleaning and even did our laundry for us too! It was the most relaxing trip this group haroup has ever taken. had!bre6abd

We had such a wonderful stay at Nicole and Carlos' villa. From the beginning, even before we arrived, Nicole was extremely responsive and helpful- offering to coordinate local chefs, massages, and transportation / activities as needed. During our stay, Carlos was available in person and via What's App for any questions. The villa was beautiful, cleaned every day, and rooms were very comfortable with cold AC. Our group of 12 used the pool every day and enjoyed eating outside with the gorgeous views of the ocean. A dream vacation! Thank you Carlos and Nicole for your hospitality!!

Our family loved Christmas in Costa Rica! Casa Mia is perfectly located with gorgeous ocean views and within walking distance of restaurant/bars. We especially loved the private pool and outdoor kitchen. Nicole was an excellent host—highly responsive and very helpful.

They property was very nice. Every room was air-conditioned and had its own bathroom. The views were amazing with macaws perching in the trees. The living and spaces are all outside with covered areas and fans. The only thing we didn't have was an oven which made cooking for our party of 16 a little tricky.. but we improvised. The location was perfect with many restaurants and groceries nearby.

We couldn’t have been more relaxed, cared for, peaceful, and in awe of how fabulous this home is! Carlos was a FABULOUS host, so helpful and checked in to help with any needs! Sonja was incredible! She kept the house and our things so nice and clean!! We had a personal chef, Erick…just AMAZING! I didn’t want yo leave…already planning another trip soon!!

The property comes exactly if not better than advertised. The hosts Carlos Granera and family along with their staff made this a very memorable vacation. Sonya was fantastic keeping our place clean and tidy, providing laundry service as well. We hired Chef Erick to cook for us every night allowing us to experience many Costa Rica delights. Carlos not only is the owner and host but adds a personal touch providing concierge services, lining up tours and transportation. The house is located mere steps away from the beach which is beautiful, not really great for swimming, but awesome for watching the surfers. Sitting at the coffee bar in the morning watching the surfers, lizards, birds and squirrels is a great way to pass the time. We had a party of 13 and still had 3 unused bedrooms. The colonial style of the house with the outdoor kitchen, living area and swimming pool makes it very easy to relax and enjoy the day while watching the youngsters in the pool. The unanimous concensus of the family was best vacation ever.
Thank you Carlos and Nicole for providing such a nice place for us to make great family memories in.

Overall, this beach front property was absolutely fantastic! Ample space for everyone to have their own space and privacy, and access to the Black Sand beach couldn't have been better! However, some simple improvements could be made, such as televisions in every room, and a stronger wi-fi system comparable to the large size of the property. Also, the water is heated via solar power, so if there is a lot of cloud cover, like during our stay and it being the rainy season, your showers may be somewhat cool, rather than warm or hot. But as stated earlier, overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the property and the Granera's were fantastic hosts. Carlos G. scheduled our ATV adventure as well as co-opted with a transportation service to get one of our Fraternity Bros. to the airport who had to depart earlier than planned. Playa Hermosa's location was conveniently located near several convenient stores and eateries and less than a 15 mins. drive to Jaco. Playa Hermosa will definitely be our go-to property for a guys or couples' trip with our ladies in the future. Pura Vida!!!!!!

So many things to love about this property:
1) Communication with Carlos and Nicole was always quick.
2) The views to the beach were so beautiful. Our son was married on the deck overlooking the ocean. Scarlet Macaw pairs flying over all day long. Gorgeous sunsets. Simply beautiful.
3) The pool was perfect for relaxing, something we all desperately needed.
4) All the bedrooms have good air conditioning. Beds were comfortable with nice linens.
5) Lots of great restaurants close by. Our favorite: Jerah Thai in Jaco. Also, try the empanadas just up the road and fish tacos in Jaco!
A few things to keep in mind:
1) There will be bugs – mosquitos, spiders, cockroaches – it’s a rainforest, plan for them. Thank goodness for the many geckos and bats!
2) All the group living space is outdoors. Because we were there in rainy season and had torrential downpours almost daily, that meant we had to find another place to congregate in the evenings to chat and play games – we turned one of the bedrooms into our game room.
3) The kitchen is all outdoors. There is no stove. Plan appropriately. There was not a second indoor kitchen as listed in the description.
4) The local power and water went out multiple times during our stay. At first I was unhappy as it came at a very inopportune time, but after a few days we just got use to it. It comes back. Likewise, the internet works right in the kitchen area only, and sometimes unreliably there, a problem for those needing to still do some work. Just plan to unplug and you’ll be less frustrated all around.
5) The house is on the major road and trucks run ALL NIGHT LONG with their noisy airbrakes. Likewise, Sunday nights at the bar next door can also be VERY LOUD.
6) There was a single hair dryer and iron for the whole villa.
A few tips:
1) There is a bus between SJO to Jaco that’s very inexpensive and runs every few hours during the day. We used this as we had multiple children traveling on different days and times. Way cheaper than the $150 we were quoted for a private driver.
2) There is a MaxiPali in Jaco for grocery needs.
3) The tile is slippery!!! Use caution!

50th Wedding Anniversary Vacation
Absolutely amazing stay at Casa Mia! I stubbled upon this house after our initial VRBO listing cancelled on me 2 months before our trip but it was the absolutely best thing that could have happened to us. There were 15 in our group ranging in age from 75 to 1. Nicole reached out to me almost immediately upon making the reservation and helped with making transportation arrangements, setting up excursions and making sure anything we needed was available at the house. She also recommended chef Kerry and Liza who were amazing and made the trip that much better (I highly recommend them). Having them was the highlight to many in our group as the food was fantastic and they also did all the clean up. Carlos met us at the house upon our arrival and gave us a complete rundown along with answering any questions we had. He was always available via WhatsApp and was quick to help resolve any issues which where all very minor. Silvia was a quiet wonder! She would generally straighten up and clean in the mornings or while we were away on an excursion. She did a fantastic job! If you're from the US, just know this is not a typical home. All the rooms face a courtyard (with pool) and all the gathering areas are all outside, which we loved! Also, you are right on the beach, which is black sand, so it gets very hot, but was perfect in the mornings and evenings. Also, this is a surfing spot so the waves get pretty big and there can be strong rip currents so not necessarily ideal for snorkeling but you can play in the water and jump in the waves, you just need to be aware. If you have the opportunity to stay here I would not hesitate and would book ASAP before it gets snatched up. Pura Vida!!!

The house is fabulous, all the bedrooms have a/c and their own bathroom. The kitchen and dining area is outdoors but well covered and spacious. Pool was nice with a wonderful view of the beach and ocean. We all loved seeing the iguanas, macaws and squirrels. I do recommend staying here. The owners are easy to communicate with too.

Best Vacation ever!!
This property is fabulous for a large group. We had 15 and everybody had a room of choice. We decided to hire the chefs, Kerry & Lisa which I would totally recommend. Provided us wonderful meals 3 times a day. We mixed it up a day or two going without breakfast & lunch when we went to the rainforest, but honestly hire a the chef, It's a no-brainer! Carlos is beyond the ultimate host. Arranging surfing lessons, massages, horseback & rainforest excursions, golf and shopping, meaning reservations & transportation. With a quick phone/text he was on it. We had a mixed adventure and pool dynamic group, and everyone was accommodated. We hated to leave and can't wait to come back. Nicole & Carlos are the essence of what makes Costa Rica the beautiful country it is!

Nicole was wonderful talking with before our arrival, very helpful and willing to set things up for your stay. Carlos was wonderful once we arrived. He was always within a phone call or text. The house was fabulous couldn’t have asked for better. Thank you for our chefs as well. Cary and Lisa were awesome and we were never dissatisfied with what they fixed our group.

Carlos and Nicole are awesome Property Owners! I was communicating with Nicole for months prior to the trip. She arranged our transportation to and from the Airport, COVID testing at the property before our return flights to the USA, provided pack n plays for the infants, high-chairs, and the list goes on and on. Carlos was on-property when we arrived to give us a tour and show us around. He also arranged our National Park Tour and Waterfall Tours during the trip which were highlights to say the least. We brought 13 people with us on our trip ( 5 adults and 8 kids). The house is great and very secure. It was kept clean daily by Sonya and she will do your laundry if requested. We had Liza and Cary prepare most of our meals during the stay and they were great and the kids loved the food. We loved the outdoor living areas and were well protected from the sun when needed. Access to the beach is great, just be aware the ocean is not ideal for swimming and the black sand gets very hot! We were able to watch surfers in the water and the sunsets each evening were great! There are a plenty of restaurants within walking distance and also convenience stores if you need anything. Overall it was a great trip and we would recommend this house to families and groups looking for a great time!

Fantastic!
RENT THIS VRBO! You will not be disappointed. We rate this one of our top vacations! They are extremely helpful, detail oriented, accommodating, kind, and genuine people! They helped us plan excursions, got my husbands hat back when he left it in the van and even offered to pick up some needed items from the grocery store! There was always someone on site cleaning and she was also very accommodating and helpful with whatever we needed. There are so many good things to say that I could go on and on, but I will just say that we will regard them as friends not just rental property owners.

Just Perfect
Amazing!! We stayed with a group of 14 adults celebrating Mom and Dad’s 50th wedding anniversary and couldn’t have a had a better time. (It would be a great place with kids too, we just needed to get away from ours) The surroundings the beach and pool were so relaxing. The surf is a little rough but we all swam in the ocean and loved watching all the surfers. Might be a little much for smaller kids but there are plenty of close beaches that are more gentle. I highly recommend chef Eric .... such great food and not having to worry about cooking and cleaning just added to the relaxation. The rooms were clean and daily maid service was great. A few close restaurants and bars for a little away time and a small convenience store down the street but definitely no hustle and bustle. A little road noise in 3 rooms but it didn’t bother my brothers and sister staying on that side of the villa. Communication with the host was so easy and all questions were answered quickly. Really the hosts were just amazing!!! I can’t say enough good things!!! If you are new to VRBO vacationing and a little apprehensive, just book it, they will walk you through everything and you will have a great time. We rented cars but you could absolutely get along with just taxi/uber and shuttles. The host can arrange most of that before hand. I highly recommend if you are looking for a relaxing vacation.

Our stay at Casa Mia
We had a group of 16 from Vermont, North Carolina, Colorado and New Mexico. Staying at Casa Mia was absolutely amazing! First was the communication with Nicole she was so helpful with all of my questions and requests. We talked about excursions and she recommended I book the Tortuga Island catamaran early because it might book our early. Good thing we did because it was the best tour imaginable. We had a great time.
Arriving at the villa around 6pm Carlos was there to meet us and give us a tour of the place. We hired Erick and his girl friend V (whose name nobody could pronounce). To cook all of our meals. They had a great dinner for us that night.
The villa is all that is presented on the website and more. Beautiful beach not great swimming but awesome for watching surfers. The pool is fantastic we spent many hour in the pool.
The last night Erick had a great beef tenderloin dinner and had baked Alaska for dessert.
I could not recommend a villa more highly than this one, everything was perfect. Don’t forget our housekeeper Sonia quietly cleaning everything every day.
If you have a large group this is definitely the place to come in Costa Rica. Spectacular!!!

Can't say enough about Casa Mia and the host
Carlos & Nicole were absolutely wonderful. They helped answer a million questions for me before I arrived, and helped us with a ton of things while we were there! Beforehand, Nicole helped us arrange shuttles to and from the airport, book excursions, book a masseuse to come to the house, hire a chef, and helped us plan a volunteering activity which we wanted to do while we were down there to help some less fortunate kids. While we were there Carlos helped us when somebody broke their key off in the door (oops!), helped us get transportation to town, and even helped book an excursion for us. The house was awesome, clean, and fun. Kids had plenty of fun running around on the beach, playing in the pool, and exploring. At first we were a bit nervous b/c the kids were so excited and we didn't want anybody tripping or slipping, but after the first day everybody got used to the environment. Their are restaurants nearby which you can walk to and grab lucnch or dinner, or just have some drinks. They are all opened up to the beach too so you can hang outside on the beach while sipping a cocktail. The house was a 10min taxi to town and has lots of things to do nearby. The ocean was rough but the guys swam a few times although lifeguards called us out once. There was even a surf competition right next door which we could practically watch from the backyard. All in all it was an amazing trip and I would highly recommend for large groups.

Mia Casa Stay
Wonderful vacation spot. Beautiful views, beautiful people, comfortable rooms. It was easy to walk to 4 neighborhood bar and grills. The best people in the world; starting with owner Nicole who helped get everything set up. Then meeting her husband (owner) Carlos who met us at 1am in the morning because our flight was delayed. Carlos also set up many shuttles, excursions and completey took care of us. Then meeting the quiet but efficient house keeper Sonja who quietly keep the place spotless. Then meeting our chefs Erick and wife Vinyela who made the stay extra special because we got to know them and their fabulous meals. Very nice and personable people. Accuracy on the listing could be updated. There is no apartment with separate kitchen. One of the rooms does not have a tv. To make things perfect; it would be nice to have an icemaker and an oven. Great overall experience.

A villa in paradise
Our experience was fantastic. My wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary with our 4 children their spouses and 9 grandchildren ages 3 to 10. Before our visit Nicole answer our multiple emails always within a day with clarity and detail. She set up all our side trips and arranged for a chef to cook meals and do the shopping. The chef Erik and assistant Vangela were outstanding. Due to a plane delay, we were late arriving but nonetheless we had a meal for 19 ready for us when we arrived at 8:30 pm. Carlos (Nicole's husband) was at the villa on our arrival and gave us a tour. He was also there the next morning to see if we needed anything. This villa is even more amazing than the vrbo website shows it to be.

Perfect destination for our family
Casa Mia was the ideal location and set up for our family of 17, including 8 adults & 9 children ages 5-14. Playa hermosa was spectacular & the kids enjoyed the pool. Plenty of areas to sit and relax. Outdoor living at its best. The owners (Nicole & carlos) were easy to reach, kind and very helpful. The on site maid (Sonia) kept the villa tidy for us all week. Some miscommunications with the chef led to a rocky start, but in the end he provided some great meals! Restaurant next door provided 2 for 1 drinks all week, which was a nice surprise. The home could use some renovations/maintenance (such as for loose cabinet doors, loose outdoor tiles, etc) but overall the property seemed well-kept. Beds were comfortable. There was no water pressure in the solar-heated showers, but that did not bother us terribly. We felt this property provided a very good value (location is key!!) & we would definitely stay again!!

Highly recommend Chef Erick and Vangela - they were awesome and worth every penny!! Sonia, the maid, was awesome as well taking care of cleaning up after all the grandkids every day. Definitely worth the price and loved Costa Rica so much!!! Would def recommend this rental!!

Perfect getaway location for a large group right on the beach
Casa Mia exceeded the expectations of our adult group of 11 for a long weekend getaway to celebrate a 40th birthday. We were so happy with our stay we even canceled our final night planned for San Jose and instead stayed an extra night at Casa Mia.
Our host Nicole was by far the most accommodating and responsive throughout our selection process which included no less than 15 properties. Nicole was straightforward and honest, but more importantly very patience with some of my nit-picky questions.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by her husband, Carlos, who could not be any nicer. Our crew arrived late (after 11:30 pm) and he was there waiting for us with a smile. He was extremely responsive to all of our needs which included a minor repair which he addressed immediately. He’s available 24-7 via the What’s Up app (or by text). The two of them are the best hosts I’ve encountered to date.
Since we were visiting during the rainy season we were very nervous about not having an indoor common area to gather if/when it rained. Their outdoor gathering area was PERFECT! We spent hours hanging out at their beautiful table and sitting area under the covered patio. In short, if it rains it’s no problem. The private rooms are very nice each with air conditioning, a TV and a private bathroom.
The property is just steps away from the beach. You can hear the crashing waves from each of the room. The views are absolutely breathtaking! As others have mentioned, it’s not a great beach for swimming, but don’t let that deter you. Just next door is a great bar/restaurant, Bowie’s Point, which we also visited a couple different times.
The icing on the cake for our trip was hiring the private chef, Erick Guitteraz, for two days. His food is delicious and he has a wonderful personality. After the guys caught fresh Tuna and Mahi Mahi, Erick made poki tuna and ceviche (best I ever had) and then also grilled the fish. His breakfasts and lunches were also amazing.
Carlos and Nicole can also schedule all transportation and excursions for you. For excursions we did a fishing charter, guided tour of the National Rain Forest Manuel Antonio and a 3-hour ATV tour followed by Canopy Zip Lining.
In short, Casa Mia provided the perfect accommodations for our group and we could not have asked for a better place to stay or more friendly hosts. It’s also a very safe area. If you’re reading this, book Casa Mia right now before it’s too late!

Great place for mini family reunion
We spent a week at Casa Mia during what was supposed to be the rainy season, but had great weather! We were able to spend days at the beach and exploring. The rain only came at night. Nicole was super quick to respond to all my questions before our stay and Carlos was around just enough to be very helpful but not intrusive during our stay. Sonia, the housekeeper, lives almost on sight, so she was also a lot of help and very discreet as she cleaned daily. You will want to know at least a little Spanish though. Sonia does not speak English. We were fortunate that my 21 yr old daughter and husband both are fluent. There are 3 bedrooms on the main floor, so we gave those to the grandparents. The remaining 5 bedrooms are upstairs, so the kids and parents split up those rooms. All rooms have their own bathroom. The outdoor kitchen made us a little nervous, but we got used to it quickly and enjoyed hearing the waves and watching little geckos running around in the evenings as we enjoyed our meals. We hired chef Erik twice and LOVED it. He pleased even our pickiest eaters. We also ate at a couple of the restaurants within walking distance and were pleased with the food. The kids played a little at the beach in front of the house, but the waves were making us moms nervous. So for extended afternoons at the beach, we drove to Jaco and rented boogie boards and surfboards, like Carlos recommended. The house had everything we needed except for beach chairs. That was the only thing we kept forgetting to ask for until we were heading out the door with elderly grandparents in tow. From the main patio area of the house, we saw beautiful scarlet macaws, geckos, frogs, chickens, and iguanas. Our 8 yr old girls were in heaven trying to collect new pets! (Don't worry we left them all there for the next guests :) I recommend this house for large groups and families of all ages.

When can we go back?
I have to first mention that my experience with Casa Mia began before we crossed the threshold of their beautiful home. Our family had been planning this trip for a year. Nicole was instrumental in answering any & all questions prior to our trip. She arranged transportation, excursions, dinner reservations. etc. & guided us through the process, lending us her feedback & recommendations along the way. It was 18 of us, ranging in ages from 6 to 63, and it accommodated us perfectly. You would have thought the house was made just for us! Everyone had their own space, adults and kids alike, which gave everyone the option of solitude/privacy if desired. The pool was perfect!! I loved that the depth of the entry of the pool kept little ones in mind. The outside living area provided ample lounging chairs & sitting areas. The dining area was incredible for such a huge party. Beach toys & beach rugs at our disposal was also a plus. Which brings me to the ocean. The view! Wow! And steps to the beach - it does not get much better than that! We opted to hire Chef Erick for most of our meals. He worked with us to make whatever we wanted & the food was delicious!! If you are on the fence about the chef, I would highly recommend you take advantage of his services at some point on your trip. You will not only eat well but also get to know a great person! There is a small neighborhood convenience store a very short walking distance away & other establishments you can partake of spirits or food. Jaco is also a short drive away. The moment we arrived, Carlos was the most gracious host. Though we got in pretty late in the evening, he was there to greet us and make sure that we would be settled in. If there was any issue, he was there to address it. My dad was injured the 2nd night we were there and Carlos personally came to transport my parents to a private doctor to make sure that their medical needs were taken care of. He checked in with my parents the following day so that our minds could be at ease to continue with our planned excursion that following day. Carlos treated us like family and I am beyond grateful! Lastly, the house was up kept & clean and this was owed in great part to Sonia, the housekeeper. She was on point every day. Her skills of taking care of the home without us barely noticing was incredible. She was like a covert housekeeper! The whole experience was just amazing! We are already longing to go back! 10 stars! Pura Vida!

I can’t say enough about how amazing Casa Mia is for multiple families to visit Playa Hermosa. Carlos and Nicole, Chef Erik and Sonia made our stay incredible. Aircon bedrooms, pool next to the outdoor kitchen a few feet from the ocean, beach fires, it was perfect! 🤙🏼

15 Friends LOVED Casa Mia
We had a group of 15 adults at Casa Mia this past week and we all don't have enough good things to say about this property and about Carlos and Nicole. Nicole helped arrange everything before our arrival including transportation from the airport, chef service with Chef Eric (also amazing) and an ATV excursion at Vista Los Suenos -- no small task for a group of 15. Everything was flawless. Carlos met us at the property to show us around and checked in every couple of days in person to make sure we had everything we needed. It was the perfect balance of being there to answer any questions and leaving us to enjoy our vacation. They are the best hosts we've stayed with - EVER.
I highly recommend this rental as well as the chef services you can arrange with Chef Eric. I wish we were still there!

Great house and location
I highly recommend Casa Mia. The house is really nice and Carlos, the owner is really helpful. The location is great. There are restaurants and bars right next door. You can go walking through the beach. It’s also a short 5 minute drive to Jacó where you can find more restaurants and bars. We decided to book the Chef Erick and he was awesome. He met with us once we arrived and helped us decide the menu for the following days. The food was delicious. The housekeeper cleaned the house daily which was also very nice. We had an overall great experience and would recommend Casa Mia.
