Explore "Bar Island" - which is accessible by foot at Low Tide, or take a kayak out to the island at High Tide.
Observe a family of Bald Eagles who have nested on and returned to Bar Island year after year.
Enjoy bird watching right from the spacious, wrap-around deck, hike the sand beach, or try the many hiking trails that abound in the area, including the nature preserve on Great Wass Island located just over the Jonesport-Beals Bridge.
The choices for day trips include several famous lighthouses in the area, and featuring the often-photographed candy-striped tower at West Quoddy Head Light. Visiting President Franklin D. Roosevelt's summer home on Campobello Island is the culmination of a worthwhile day trip to nearby Lubec, with its quaint shops and eateries, and the Canadian Border.
Local "catch of the day" seafood can be purchased at the seafood Co-Op in the downtown area, as well as lots of great local produce at the local farmers markets, and daily specials at the largest local farm in the area.
Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are a short day trip, as well as historic Raye's Mustard Mill in Eastport -- the last true working stone ground mustard mill in the United States. It is still in use, and the workers LOVE to give the tour!!
Also very nearby is the Bartlett Maine Estate Winery...the first of its kind in the entire state of Maine.
All in all, Sandy River Beach is a very relaxing place to spend your vacation, yet not so far out of the way.
Ending each of your days with a nice glass of local wine while sitting on the porch swing keeps you wondering who is running the rest of the world.
Jonesport is also a lovely home base for the many festivals and events held in the surrounding area during the spring, summer and fall months...
The Moosabec Summerfest in Jonesport occurs annually around the Fourth of July and features many family-friendly activities, including a Parade, fireworks and the Original "World's Fastest Lobster Boat" races.
The Machias Wild Blueberry Festival turns the entire Downeast area blue in the middle of August with the premier event of the summer, celebrating the origins and contributions of Maine's signature fruit...
Other area celebrations, including "Margaretta Days" in nearby Machias, "Milbridge Days" featuring the world famous Cod Race, the annual "Addison Days" celebration, the newly minted "Bold Coast Sea & Sky Festival" and the "Eastport Pirate Festival" will make your Downeast experience one that will last for a lifetime...

Very nice home, owner was also very nice. House was right across the street from the beach, beautiful view. I was born in Maine, its been 9 years since I was home. We loved every minute of it and was very comfortable staying in the home.

Harlan Samuelson was a delightful host. Within minutes we were having an enjoyable conversation and he was sharing about his family and this family home. The property was comfortable. The view spectacular. Harlan quickly became a friend. My dog loved him. The location is great to go to Quoddy State Park, Schoonic, Great Wass, Jasper Beach, Lubec and so many other great hiking and scenic places. I am happy that I booked this home. Harlan gifted us with fresh lobster. I will enjoy my trip and all the memories for years to come.

Harlan is a very kind and helpful host. The house is comfortable and everything works. The best asset is the magnificent view and the swing on the porch, to admire it at all times. We really enjoyed Sandy River beach and walking to Bar island.
We appreciated being away from the crowds, listening to the waves and the birds. If you are ok feeling like you are staying in somebody else's house, you will be able to enjoy it's charm. I felt like i was staying at my grand-parents' house.

Comfortable home in a quiet coastal location. My husband and I enjoyed sitting on the porch swing relaxing and taking in the view. Quiet beach within walking distance and had fun with our dog walking to the nearby island when the tide went out. There was a bit of a mix-up for check in, but the host was gracious and we had an enjoyable stay. Lots of reading material available providing interesting local information.

I spent a week at this place with my spouse last August 2020. We had the most amazing time at this house! Since the very beginning, Harlan was the perfect host; he made us feel at home and helped us with everything we needed. The view is just breathtaking and we spent hours at the deck reading, eating and enjoying the view. Absolutely recommended! We can't wait to be back!

Our host was very kind and considerate. Thank you. The home was as if it was still very lived in with the home still full to the top with all supplies from a very lived in home of many years. There were boxes filthy and wet and moldy in the laundry area with the smell coming up into the living and sleeping area through grates in the floor. We left after only one night due to allergies to the must mold and everything in full cupboards and in home needing a full clean. New linens and mattresses would be a huge help too. And getting rid of all the 30 year old shag carpets.
Harlan was extremely kind during checkin though.

We had a wonderful family vacation staying at Harlan's house. He was very attentive to anything we needed and would visit daily. The house is very homey with lots of family photos and collected treasures. It's surprisingly big with lots of comfy couches. Jonesport is a quiet fishing town that provided us great places to bike, kayak and hike. We hiked on Great Wass trails and kayaked off of Beals Island and further up the bay off Flake Bar Rd. The house is across the street from Bar Island which you can walk to at low tide and also Sandy Beach is down the road. We loved the beauty of the area. We bought lobster and crab from the locals for dinners. There is a grocery store in town and a supermarket in Machias about 25 minutes away. All in all, a very pleasant stay.

From the moment we booked to the moment we left we felt welcomed. Harlan is very friendly, helpful and respectful, an all around gracious host.
The home is spacious and has all you need except for clothes and food! Beautiful views from the front porch, kitchen and living room. Peace and quiet abound! Perfect place for relaxation and quality family time.
We would definitely return!!

I wasn't sure I would like to be this far north in Maine but I fell in love with the place. We enjoyed sitting on the porch swing, watching the tide come in & go out. Harlan is super nice. A really great guy. He made us feel welcome in his home.I can't wait to visit again.

We found this home to be clean, comfortable and cozy (we had some cool nights!). Everything was as described on the website. Harlan was helpful and friendly, but respected our privacy. We would stay there again, and recommend it to others.
