About this lodge
Beautiful Luxury 5bd/4bath home with mountain views from 3 levels. This beautiful log cabin is a perfect getaway for family or friends. About half of our guests have bear sightings. Sleeps 12 comfortably + a sleeper for up to 2 more: Master suite with King, 2nd bedroom suite with Queen bed, 2 additional bedrooms with Queen beds, a 5th room sleeps 4 with queen over a queen bunk bed, and sleeper sofa if needed in the living room. Convenient to Smoky Mountain National Park, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge (Dollywood). It's a short day trip to Cherokee Casino or Biltmore House. For security and to prevent burglary this property has video cameras on the outside monitoring access points to doors. The front camera has a wide area view while the others are focused on the areas around the door. The lower-level camera DOES NOT oversee the hot tub; however, guests must pass in front of the camera to access the hot tub. The footage is recorded for about a week and then it overwrites. We practice continuous improvement.
We purchased this property late in 2015. Our friends call our remodel a rebuild as we gutted 3 levels to take this 1970s cabin into the 21st century. It was very trying and everything took longer than expected. We try to enhance the property continually.
* 2016 we completed a major renovation. Consisted of adding a gabled roof on the deck over the dining room. Expanded kitchen, removed spiral staircase, and replaced with large functional staircase. Removed some of the upper level walkarea that made no sense. Removed up to 5 levels of linoleum and replaced with hardwood and tile in upper and main levels. The lower level removed linoleum, sanded and stained cement floor. Replaced massive amounts of sheet rock with tongue and groove knotty pine. Fully remolded kitchen cabinets, appliances, flow, etc. Completed some needed cosmetic work to bathrooms on all levels but left them for another time.
* In 2018 we redid the outside of the house to outside logs and upstairs windows, providing greater energy-efficient and more modern look.
* 2019 rebuilt the deck and converted the railings from metal rail to wire which really opens the view.
Also, in 2019 we suffered a catastrophic lightning strike that took out all TVs, washer & dryer, and more.
* 2020 - COVID starts.
* 2021 - Reworked attic access ladder to increase access size and allow HVAC equipment to be moved into the attic.
* 2022 - January replaced/upgraded lower-level HVAC system. March replaced/upgraded the upper-level HVAC system. Also moved HVAC from the master bedroom changing area to the attic. This is the first step in a plan to provide private bathrooms for the 2 upstairs bedrooms.
* April 2023 completed the transformation of the upstairs changing room to a large luxurious master bathroom. The existing upstairs bath is now for the private use of the other upstairs bedroom; however, it will take until my next major construction project before the other room is considered a suite.
* September 2023 Completed remodel and conversion of the upper-level bathroom to suite. We also renovated both the main and lower-level bathrooms.
* September 2024 Having completed the complete set of planned renovations established with the purchase of the property in 2016, We entered the next phase of improvements. Having converted the house to the luxury home we envisioned in 2016 the house is in great shape but nothing is perfect. This pass through the house the goal is to convert the house from a high-end home to a support a true luxury vacation. We decided to remove the large, electric fireplace in the middle of the living room to better enjoy the mountain views, improve the room flow, the hearth alone took 35 sqft. Additionally we removed the popcorn ceiling in the living room. We painted the deck this time going with a 2 tone look. Painted master bedroom and upper level guest suite while adding full wall murals of area events. We also removed popcorn texture from the bedroom ceilings. Lifted the fireplace in the bedroom up so that it could be enjoyed while in bed. Painted the deck, upgraded bedding and numerous other things.
Lots to do with a pool table in the game room, an amazing hot tub, lots of rockers for reading and just relaxing wrap-around porch, flat-screen TVs in all rooms, and a large projector in the multimedia room. Lots of wildlife we often see a family of deer and on occasion, we will see a black bear and her cubs. Our neighborhood hosts three pools, a golf course, and for larger events the ability to rent space from the neighborhood HOA office at the very top of the mountain.

We stayed for a week really enjoyed our stay. This place had everything we could want and need and we saw some bears!!

I have already done my review, but I don’t know if y’all got it so let me say we thought the place was great, we had plenty of room and response from the owner was great, it is not very many miles to anywhere but it just takes a long time to get there. The golf course as you drive in was just beautiful and all of the houses up in the mountains were so pretty and yes, our driveway was steep but no worse than any of the others. We did cook out on the grill a couple of times and we had a bear come visit us in the yard, which was awesome Would love the deck off of the main floor, it was nice to sit out on in the mornings when the weather was cooler The pool table was nice and so was the movie room and there was plenty of games to play in the cabinet, but just nowhere to actually put your groceries because all of the cabinets were full of things you might need.
There is plenty to do in Gatlinburg and pigeon Forge😍

Our extended family had a fantastic time at this property. There were 11 of us and we had plenty of room for everyone! The property was as described and there were tons of kitchen supplies available for cooking. The hot tub & pool table were great additions and we loved our time spent on the many deck options. Especially the morning we all drank our morning coffee while enjoying watching a mama bear play with her cub!! It was an incredible experience for all and we would certainly recommend & come back. The only negatives were that the swimming pools were a bit far away & the roads & driveway were quite steep-but not a problem in the summer if you go slow. Ed was quick to respond to any issues or concerns that we had. It was a really wonderful experience overall.

We enjoyed our stay.. nice place. Location is very good.

A very nice cabin and we loved all the extra space not on top of each other. We’ll definitely keep this on our list for future trips. Thank you for allowing us to be able to stay in your cabin.

The road up to this place is quite the incline especially when going up the hill for the first time in the dark, while it was pouring. Once we got used to drive up the hill it wasn't that bad.
The house had a beautiful view of the Smokey Mountains. The house was well laid out and had a place for everyone to kick back and relax.
Areas for Improvement:
- Overall the house needed a thorough cleaning.
- The grooves in the kitchen table had food in them and need to be cleaned.
- The wind blew in through the door seals in the upstairs master bedroom and several other bedroom windows.

We loved it besides one issue but was overall great we loved it and the driveway was steep but we managed

There were a lot of good things about our stay and the property - beautiful setting, convenient neighborhood. We even saw bears!! However we felt like many things listed in the description were not accurate - for example, the hot tub was basically unusable because the cover was broken, the pool table and dart board in the basement were in terrible condition and missing equipment (couldn't use either). The kitchen could use some serious TLC as well - we had 9 people staying in the house and there were only 7 forks!! We made the most of it and still enjoyed our stay but we probably would not return.

We recently stayed at this cabin with our family. The cabin is big and has a lot of potential. The neighborhood where it is located is very nice and the cabin has a nice view of the mountains. The only thing we believe needs to be improved is the overall cleanliness of the place. The oven was not clean, and there was spiderwebs in some areas. Also the fire places had a lot of dust and the sheets didn’t feel clean. For the price of these cabins we were expecting the place more than anything to be clean. One of the beds in one of the rooms of the main floor swings, seems like it was missing some wood parts and it was loose. Over all we had a good experience. The host was very responsive to all of our messages and was very helpful. All the instructions were clear and we had a very easy check in and out.
4.7
The house was great, plenty of space for our family of 10, clean and attractive. Our only issues were getting in and out of the driveway, especially at night (dark) and trying to communicate with property owner about a need that didnt get resolved til the last night. Small concerns that didnt ruin our stay , so no big deal.

The cabin was just right for our family members. It was very clean and comfortable. Located in an area near Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Our last night there we saw a family of 4 bear cubs and their momma. Right up close behind closed doors. Awesome! Thank you!

We had a great time here. There’s plenty of room, and entertainment for ages young and small. I was a little disappointed with the fireplace in the sitting area. There aren’t any instructions for how to use it, if it works. We washed all the dishes we planned to use, when we first arrived. There were cob webs and dust throughout. Again, it was an excellent time- just not quite what I expected in the cleanliness department. Aside from needing a good deep cleaning, the place really is beautiful.

Was great overall

This cabin couldn't have been better suited for our wide age range. We had a newborn on up to 60 year olds, with most in their 20's, and we were all comfortable! There was plenty to keep the college kids happy when we weren't off finding adventure with zip lining, rafting and hiking! Plenty of bear sightings but no damage or scary encounters! What a fun long weekend to finish the summer and launch a new school year!

The property was very clean. As someone else mentioned, having more rocking chairs on the deck would be appreciated. We spent all our time there. Having extra forks was another need. The easiest way we found to get into the driveway was to go past it, turn around at the next intersection, and then enter from the other direction. We were able to get five cars in the driveway. We saw three different bears and a woodchuck, which was fun. I loved the island in the kitchen for all the extra space for seating and for all the food we brought. The kitchen is well stocked. Appliances were all new, clean and worked well. The place to take trash was in the driveway and it was always picked up, which was appreciated. We loved the place because it was further out from Gatlinburg. It was private and quiet. Trees surround you except for the view of the mountain. It rained a lot but we still sat outside on the deck underneath the roof outside the living room. It really was a great place for 10 people!

Overall everything was great. Very clean property and nice to have gates and pack and plays handy. The pool was a nice touch for the summer month. I would have loved a list of food locations that delivered and a few more rocking chairs but overall great experience and very responsive host which is always great! We even got to see a bear which was pretty cool!

We came up for new years and had a great time as a family! It was so awesome to see the fog rolling in through the mountains from the deck. Everything was in working order, and well stocked! We had a great time!

We had a great time! All the directions and check in info. Was detailed and the cabin was great.

The property was nice great view

Everything was fantastic other than the parking. Nearly impossible to get in and out of there.

This getaway was amazing. The cabin was beautiful and the owner was very helpful.

Cabin is located in a great location with views. You can also easily get to shopping and attractions. We like to play pool and darts. I would recommend getting some new cue sticks and setting up a new dart board with darts. Kitchen was nicely stocked to cook a large meal and big screen was nice for watching football. Ed was very responsive and a pleasure to work with.

Had an amazing stay at this property. In my group there were 10 of us total and there was plenty of space for everyone. We deff spent most of the time either in the kitchen (which was fully stocked with all dishes and cooking material) or downstairs in the theatre/Pool table área. We won’t had 2 vehicles and the driveway was perfect with 2. I would say 3 vehicles fit comfortably but 4 might be too tight depending on size of vehicle. 10/10 reccomend and would deff come back!! Thank you!

Had a great time! Ed was quick to respond to the few inquiries we had abs the place and view are beautiful!

Everything was great

The property was amazing. The drive up the mountain was a bit for those of us that get motion sick. But worth it. Quiet. Peaceful with plenty of room for everyone. We would go back in a heartbeat.

Nice place to relax and visit with family to celebrate 80th birthday with mother

Upon our arrival we were very excited, up until entering the house. The first 3 hours of our stay were spent sweeping dust bunnies, dog hair and dust on all levels as the place was so very dirty in addition to the cob webs we had to clean up as well. And sadly rewashing all linens due to stains and sketchiness of the looks of them. We even had to send a family member to the store to purchase a swiffer mop to mop the floors because all of our feet/socks are black on the bottom due to poor cleaning/no cleaning at all. We had a 1 year old that is crawling and we didn’t even feel he was safe to be crawling because his legs were black the first 10 minutes..Another downfall was not being forewarned about the pool being closed and walking there to be told it was closed, sadly that was a large incentive as to why we chose this place, so that was very saddening. Even felt that because of the lack of cleanliness the house endured, that the hot tub was also not taken care of so we decided to forego using that… sadly. And lastly, there was a dead squirrel in a light fixture that we had to get out because of how poor the smell was…. Just very displeased as this is listed as a “luxurious” house. We wanted to advise/express this to the owner on the first day before leaving a poor review but after contacting him he did not take ownership of the wrongs.. Having to do hours of work upon our arrival that should have already been taken care of and amenities not being available to us was disappointing. And hopefully you don’t have more than one car because parking is horrible.

Property was great and convenient to downtown Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. House was as advertised. Hot tub and theater rooms were great for our group and provided some great things for the kids to do while staying there. Excellent sty and I would recommend staying at Bear Necessities and would stay again if I return to Gatlinburg.

A great family vacation. Had a mama bear and 3 cubs our first night visit and several more times during our trip. So fun to watch and not threatening. The house worked well for our extended family stay. The cabin is secluded from the view of the neighbors and the view is great. The pool was nice but is a ways from the cabin. Great experience!!

Our family enjoyed our stay here! It was a beautiful property. The mountains are lovely.

Old and dingy. This place needs a major update. The couches were gross, dirty and torn, but the outside decking area was absolutely filthy! I will upload photos of the cobwebs that were everywhere, if it will let me. But… What makes this place unacceptable was the camera watching the living area on the deck. I understand the camera watching us walk in the front door, but not the living areas! I don’t go on vacation to be watched. That’s just creepy and several people expressed concerns that they may have cameras inside. The owner is very defensive to any negative comments, so I am sure he will say he doesn’t watch the cameras…yeah right! The whole setup is goofy. No bedroom has a private bath, not even the master, and most bathrooms have a sink on top of a Jack Daniels barrel with zero counter space. The main floor living room only has room for 5 adults to sit on the couches, so every night a few people would be sitting on the floor. (We had 8 adults and 5 children) This is because there is this metal electric fireplace in the middle of the room preventing using the other two walls for extra cushioned seating. Btw, the fireplace blocks window views and puts out minimal heat. It needs to go. There is a similar one in the “master” bedroom that is a major toe stumping hazard. After the first toe was hurt, we draped a floor mat over the corner of the 1” tall brick hearth. Some of the window treatments were old and torn and the master is lacking treatments on a door and a picture window, so it is pretty bright. There is only a sliver view of a mountain, topping the trees, which is allowed, would greatly improve the view. The easy off hot tub cover mechanism is broken but when I saw all of the cobwebs by the tub, I was like, no thanks. If your going to have a pool table, at least fix the separated bumpers where you can actually play pool. Wi-Fi was terribly slow. We had an online college student panicking trying to get his work to upload. Last gripe, it was pretty far out of town, 48 mins to Dollywood and 26 mins to Gatlinburg. On a positive note, the beds were comfortable, there was plenty of hot water and the owner was very responsive to any questions.
