We had a great time at the Hankerchief House. The property is exactly as advertised, clean, and comfortable. Charles was so responsive and easy to communicate with.

Our group had a fantastic weekend at this beach house! The location is unbeatable with easy access to the beach. The house itself was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed. What made the stay even more enjoyable was the property manager's responsiveness. Charles promptly answered all of our questions and ensured we had a smooth experience from start to finish. I highly recommend this rental for a perfect beach getaway!

This was the perfect setting for our large family...plenty of space to hang out comfortably, even on rainy days. The house is perfectly located and the property owner was very responsive to any questions we had. We'll definitely come again!

Good location.
Lot of end of the season repairs required.
We enjoyed our stay.

The house boasts air-conditioning but it’s only in the bedrooms. The kitchen and living room was very hot and uncomfortable.
But Davis Park is a great place to be so it’s hard not to have fun.

Walking distance from the beach, but in the lush center where you wake up to bird chatter every morning. Truly a wonderful stay.

Wonderful vacation at Davis Park! Handkerchief House is a one-of-a-kind gem in a special community. The host Charles was very easy to communicate with and helped make the stay as nice as possible. We had a large group with adults and teens and everyone was comfortable and had a great time. The unique layout of the house makes for great cross-breezes. We got our groceries delivered from Pat's Marketplace in East Islip and they were great as well. We can't wait to return. Thank you!!!

Charles is very nice and helpful. Answered all my questions in a timely manner! House is like an old ship, really good. The stairs going down to the bedrooms is more of a ladder. Convenient for washer and dryer on site and dishwasher. Coffee maker and utensils and all kitchen needs. Super close walk to beach which was great! Thanks for a wonderful week.

Charles, the owner, was so amazingly accommodating and helpful. He communicated with us from the beginning of the rental process and throughout the time we were in the house. He was so friendly and his dogs are adorable.
The house is lovely, clean and super well stocked with all the basics- both in the kitchen and bathrooms. The outdoor deck is a wonderful place to read or socialize.
The beds were comfortable and the bedrooms cool and spacious, good for a nap after a beautiful day at the beach.
Overall the house was a wonderful place to spend a fun and relaxing week at the beach !

The house was the perfect venue for a Fire Island retreat. The magic of Davis Park is captured in this iconic structure. Chip and Claudia are great hosts. The house is well equipped for beach adventures and relaxing on the deck. The kitchen is well appointed with knives, cutting boards, dishes and cookware. We used the kitchen like a work horse putting out spreads for our friends and family who visited. This is a bit of a feat on Fire Island. We appreciated the spice collection and basic condiments in the fridge, in case we had forgotten something. Thanks again for a most memorable vacation!!!

Overall great place! Indoor stairs are really a ladder. Definitely need a baby gate! Doors need some “de-squeaking” as bedrooms are in close proximity. Great to have laundry on site. Outdoor shower, magnificent!!

Great location. House is like an old sailing ship. Nice decor, but narrow spaces and steep staircase/ ladder to the dimly lit cabins. Private porches are nice. I think we just had horrible luck with the weather and plumbing issues. The owner talked us through fixing an issue with the hot tub. The upper story shower still leaks into the lower bathroom? The kitchen is stocked with utensils, blender, paper towels, etc. Lots of the drawers are full of the owners stuff or stuff left behind by others. Though the futons are comfortable, I recommend limiting to 8 people maximum, so you have the upstairs as common space. Another thing to note is that Swiftway Beer and King Kullen both deliver to the ferry docks for small fees. I parked at Watch Hill Terminal for free and Uber’d to the nearby Davis Park Terminal no problem.

Overall a nice week. Some parts of the house were breaking down. Screen doors, for example. Charles was very helpful initially, especially as we missed within listing that it's offered without sheets and towels and we showed up not prepared. But after initial conversations, responses were slower. Overall, we had fun and location is great and house is cool and funky.

Interesting house, accommodating owners. Just be aware that inside stairs are very steep. Location is very nice, deck is awesome!

Great home, good location & overall good experience with property owner as well.

Great beach house, great deck, 2 min walk to the beach. The owners were great and very accommodating. The only thing I have to say is I felt a little rushed by the cleaning staff as they got there at 10:30 while we were trying to get everything together to be out by 11. Otherwise they were very polite.

Lovely home renovated kitchen and upstairs great Bose stereo system indoors and outdoors with wifi controls. Nice entertainment center built in with 50" screen. Hot Tub is perfect placed in deck and Ping Pong was great. We has a blast and will be back. Beach is quiet and private and 3 blocks form house all walking no cars and bay is 2 blocks down other way.

Like many Fire Island homes, this one has the kitchen and hang-out spaces on top and the bedrooms below. We were 9 adults for two nights and 7 adults the rest. While there were 9, two slept on the new and very comfy foldout couch futon upstairs in the common space. When we were 7, one adult took the bunk room. We were there during a heat wave and used the air conditioners in the bedrooms for the first few nights, then got used to using fans and taking advantage of one of the best features of this house - the incredible cross breezes of this nest in the sky. Everyone reported sleeping well. The kitchen was well-stocked, the appliances new, and on the deck, a grill, a great washer and dryer and spare fridge/freezer. Also, beach umbrellas and chairs, a few rafts and beach toys for the kids, ping pong, foosball and a hot tub! The owners recently re-did the lighting and entertainment system so that you could watch netflix and other apple tv apps, dish channels and listen to music outside. We were able to have nice atmospheric lighting. The kitchen seems to be new too - with a beautiful stone backsplash. Owners and managers were communicative. There's a cart available to renters at the ferry which can be unlocked with a code. Supermarket on the mainland delivered to Davis Park ferry landing! We took a water taxi to other parts of the island but mostly enjoyed being on the beach near the edge of Davis Park. Watch Hill campground is not far from there. There's a wonderful chock-full of info 3 ring binder for guests with tips on the local restaurant and bar, post office, medical resources, history of Davis Park and Fire Island, etc. Neighbors were friendly. We never felt like outsiders even though I sensed many of the people there had been coming for generations. We didn't have a dog, but this sure looks like a dog friendly part of Fire Island and we had excellent dog-watching, not to mention birds and stars. I would just note that the bunk room isn't really a great option for a tall person or two adults, so a group of more than 7 might means that folks are sleeping on the new and comfortable futon couch-beds upstairs. The longer we stayed the more we realized how well thought out the house was. Even the garbage and recycling in the kitchen and at the end of the walkway - very easy, airtight, and tons of room. Thanks for a great stay!
