About this house rental
Please take note of Puerto Rico's COVID related travel requirements described on their "travelsafe" web page.
Our two-story home "Alturas De Culebra" (Heights of Culebra) is situated on nearly two private acres of prime hillside property and offers panoramic views of Fulladoza Bay and the Carribbean Sea. There is over 2,000 square feet of interior space plus an additional 1,500 square feet of covered and uncovered patios to take advantage of the Caribbean breezes.
The first level offers a spacious living room and a dining table with views of the ocean. The room opens onto the covered patio, which has ocean views and is set up for outdoor dining. The kitchen is well equipped and generous on space, and a large outdoor propane grill is situated directly outside the kitchen. The first floor has both a full bathroom and an outdoor shower.
The second level of the home features a wrap-around deck with spectacular panoramic views of the ocean. Enjoy beautiful sunrises from the deck in the morning, and stargazing at night. The main house contains 2 bedrooms while the third bedroom is a casita. All 3 bedrooms, each with air conditioning, ensuite bathroom, and walk-in closet, are located on the second level. They provide maximum privacy while enjoying the views and breezes of Culebra.
The home is surrounded by beautiful terraced gardens with thoughtfully planted flora. You will find flowering trees, and fruit trees around the property, including passion fruit, limes, oranges, and oregano.
There is a different beautiful beach to visit every day of the week on Culebra. All of the beaches are within 5 to 20 minutes from our house. For the adventurous, you can hike to the virgin beaches of Playa Resaca, Brava or Carlos Rosario. You can also charter a water taxi or a sailboat to the beautiful unspoiled islands of Culebrita and Luiz Pena.
NOTES:
For more than 2 people, the additional fee is $25.00/night for each additional person.
Thanks very much for choosing to stay at our Culebra home!
We would like to confirm:
You have read our House Rules section (bottom of listing, located under "Things to Know", click "Show More").
You understand that a 4wd vehicle is necessary to access our home (Both major rental companies rent 4wd vehicles nearly exclusively, just don't rent a golf cart :)).

This was our 2nd visit to the island of Culebra, and our first time renting this home. We absolutely loved It! The host was responsive, helpful, and attentive. The home is situated on the top of a mountain with a gorgeous view of the island. You definitely need a Jeep to get up to the property. The home was very clean, organized, and seems the owners have thought of everything! The outdoor shower was a big plus, along with the propane grill. The property is kept in wonderful shape - you can tell the home has been loved. We would stay here again in a second! Enjoy the beautiful island of Culebra!

Beautiful views of the bay . House furnishings were very good. The house had all supplies that you need. Jessie responded promptly to all our needs and she was excellent . Great property. It is very private with no close neighbors. Only a five minute drive to town. You need a 4 wheel drive vehicle to reach the home

Beautiful property, great porches, and a killer view. Everything we needed was there, and we loved the island. Very highly recommended, just note that you do need a jeep to get there.

This is a lovely home in a peaceful setting with an amazing view. Everything about the home is wonderful. It's well equipped with beach chairs, coolers, and snorkeling gear. The kitchen is spacious and also well equipped. There is even a full drawer of spices for cooking. The property manager is very helpful and welcoming. We would definitely come back.

This is our second time staying at Alissa and Jeff's house at Alturas. It is a great location - very private, but not far from town - high on a hill so you always get nice breezes. Never need to use air conditioning, at least in January. The master bedroom is so spacious and all the bathrooms have just been remodeled - nice tiling! This would be a wonderful house for a family, but it was just me and my husband. Evenings we enjoyed sitting on the decks with drinks/snacks - fantastic ocean view. The kitchen has everything you might need. We had all our breakfasts here and made our lunches to bring with us to the beach. The beach chairs were perfect and easy to carry - very comfortable. Most evenings we went to the local restaurants - Dinghy Dock, Susie's (need reservations), Zaco's Tacos! There was construction on the bridge the first 2 days we were on the island. Luckily, we had 2 really nice beaches on our side of the bridge, so no issues. We would definitely come here again, and hope we can again next year!

The property was very true to the pictures in the listing and the view was great. But when they say you need a jeep to get there you better believe it. The management team was on top of a few minor issues. Will stay there again.

I cannot give enough positive feedback on this property and on our overall experience to do it justice. This was our fourth trip to Culebra and by far the best place we have stayed--in the past we have stayed in a variety of places, but none came close to Alissa and Jeff's gem of a home. The location is perfect--perched high on a hill that provides gorgeous water views and an easy drive to town and all the beaches. It's true that you do need to rent a Jeep or other 4 wheel drive vehicle to access this house, but personally I think it's important to do that regardless of where you stay on the island if you want easy access to Zoni and other sites accessible via rough roads. Plus, tooling around in a Jeep is super fun on Culebra!
Check in and check out were both a breeze. Before we even left NYC, we communicated several times with Alissa and Jeff and they were extremely responsive and helpful. We also connected with Jessie (their housekeeper) before we arrived and she offered to meet us in the morning, which was so helpful and appreciated. Jessie met us at our Jeep rental place and we followed her to the house so that she could show us around. The house was spotless and had everything we needed and more, including beach chairs (upon discovering 2 were broken, we texted Jessie and she replaced them with brand new ones within the hour!), beach towels, sand toys, coolers, and a fully stocked kitchen. We ended up grilling at home 4 out of the 5 nights and preferred that to going out. The upper deck was perfect for enjoying happy hour as the sun set, and we didn't have to wait in line at a restaurant or deal with parking in town. In the mornings we loved having coffee on the lower deck. We read through the guest book and the very detailed house information book and that led us to several places we hadn't tried before for snorkeling and hiking.
We traveled with our 10-year-old son, one other couple and their 11-year-old son. The house was very spacious and comfortable for all of us. The kids shared the casita and loved having their "own little house" complete with a television and bathroom.
It's true what the other reviewers have said about the wonderful breezes--we never turned on the A/C in the main house, though we did use it at night in the casita.
Don't hesitate to book this house for your next trip!

14 wonderful days
we have stayed at many VRBO properties over the years but this one was the best as far as being stocked with everything you would need for a fabulous time! Jeff & Alissa have a very welcoming home here with a well stocked kitchen, very comfortable furniture, and beach chairs, snorkle equipment, coolers, etc. for the beach which is why we were in Culebra, to enjoy the beautiful beaches there. Jeff & Alissa helped us secure a rental vehicle and contacted us before our stay with useful information and during our stay to make sure all was well. The owners are 5 star people as well as the property!!!

Special home and location!
Alyssa, Jeff, and Jesse were all friendly, Pleasant, and responded quickly to any questions we had. Also helped when we were looking to rent a kayak and dinner suggestions. Their home is in a lovely neighborhood high on a hilltop Spectacular water views! It was just the two of us but would be excellent for three couples or for a large family gathering. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful Views!
The views from the house are absolutely beautiful. The bottom and top decks are wonderful both at sunrise and sunset. The house is nicely appointed with plenty of room in the living room for the 5 of us. The beds are comfortable. The drive to town and most beaches is 10minutes or less. It is true without a doubt that a 4x4 is needed to get to the house. We saw Anole and deer eating in the yard. No crazy things like snakes or scorpions.
This is something specific to the COVID-era. We were there a Sunday to Friday. >90% of the restaurants were closed to dine-in eating (take out only). Towards the end of the week, a couple places had opened up to in-person dining. We ended up doing a lot of cooking for this reason. The stove and grill worked well. There were spices and basic condiments available from previous guests.
You could tell the house is closed up a lot. It does have a slight musty odor that may bother someone with mold allergies. This just comes with a tropical, wet environment. The owners had scent absorbing bags in every room. There is air conditioning in the bedrooms which works great but none in the community spaces like the kitchen or TV/living room. If you have young children you are not likely going to want to put them in the bedroom with the two double beds since it has no entrance to the house (casita). My 12yo would not stay out there.
There are several small grocery stores on the island. Do not expect many choices. The prices are decent. Just be aware that they take COVID VERY seriously. I am triple vaccinated and still felt ill prepared. Aside from the beaches, the Culebra residents expected a mask on both inside and out (even on sidewalks). Be prepared to wash your hands/gel immediately in any establishment to avoid being confronted.
The owners were very responsive. Jessie showed us around well. She even picked up a few groceries for us on arrival since the stores would be closed when we arrived. They were very easy to deal with.

Amazing views! And yes, you really do need a jeep
The house was great! It’s up the hills and you really do need 4 wheel drive to get up to the house. Jessie greeted us at the Jeep rental and we followed her to the home. She went over the house procedures and gave some directions as to how to get into town and where to buy groceries. The house has everything you need, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, q tips, blow dryer, and toilet paper. There is leftover sunscreen and bug spray from previous renters as well. We didn’t do any cooking but the kitchen did look well stocked. The views are just as pictured if not better. The rooms are just as they appear in the photos. We would stay here again if we visited Culebra again.
As a note to future renters, we did book a water taxi with Aquatic Adventures and they never showed or answered the phone. We booked 4 scuba dives with Culebra Divers and they were super responsive, prompt, safe, and professional.

Magical!
From the moment we arrived until our departure, our expectations were met or surpassed by this home and Culebra! The house and the views are even nicer than they appear in the pictures and Jessie makes all the logistics very easy. We followed the hosts suggestions for all activities and experiences and dining and absolutely loved our time here. Im already missing the constant breeze and the views of 3 separate bays! We will definitely be coming back to Culebra and we would rent this exact home again!

Alturas de Culebra
We had a wonderful vacation at Alturas de Culebra. Alissa and Jeff’s house is absolutely beautiful! On top of the hill, it’s very breezy, so we didn’t have to use the AC at all. The view is absolutely breathtaking, the house spotless and cared for lovingly and very nicely decorated . The kitchen has everything you need to cook gourmet meals, not only pots and pans but also all the spices you can imagine. Both Jeff and Alissa were very prompt in answering all the questions and made the booking process very easy. Jessie was very nice and waited for us patiently at the boat dock and offered to drive us the next day to the car rental place. The information book at the house was very detailed and helpful not only for learning about the house rules but also about the beaches and island life. Once you get used to the steep road leading to the house, you really can’t ask for a nicer place to spend a fabulous vacation!
Thank you, Alissa and Jeff for sharing your wonderful house with us!

Beautuful home, perfect location
This home was perfect for the 3 couples who visited Culebra from 2/4/20 - 2/11/20. The kitchen was well appointed with good appliances and cooking equipment. The living and dining areas were spacious and comfortable. It was wonderful to have a bathroom for each of the bedrooms. It was handy to have the outdoor shower to rinse things off after the beach. The outdoor verandas to take in the views, moon & stars at night were also very accommodating. There was ample space to park our 2 jeeps. The homeowners and Jessie the local contact person where very attentive and helpful. Culebra is a gem with very pleasant people, and beautiful beaches for snorkeling, swimming and lounging. We will definitely be back.

Luxurious
Alturas offers splendid views and spacious living areas inside and out. Nice that beach towels, chairs, coolers are included as we enjoyed different beaches every day. The kitchen is big and well-outfitted. The drive up and down the steep hills was too scary for me so I’m glad my husband drove. Definitely need 4-wheel drive. As a family of 4 we were charged extra for a 3rd bedroom, which I didn’t anticipate when I saw it in the Vrbo contract - but options were limited so we booked anyway. The 3rd bedroom has twin beds and would have been fine for my kids to share instead of paying extra - so if this applies to your future rental you should ask. Wish I had known. House and furnishings are in beautiful condition and we had a good stay.

Breezy, comfy, beautiful
This property is great. Amazing views, divine breeze at night (no need for A/C), really well kept and nicely decorated. The steep hill to get to it was no issue with the jeep. They have all the stuff you need for the beach. The greeter was really nice and helpful. Would definitely return!

Great place
We loved the views and the drive up the driveway. The place has plenty of room, close to town and quiet at night. We spent most of our time out on the 2 decks. With the breeze on the hill you don’t need air conditioning during the day. Only negative was the beds which were pretty soft and uncomfortable.

Beautiful home with amazing view!
This home is perfectly situated on a hill with island breezes and amazing views! We watched the sun rise in the morning and moon rise at night. Everything in the house works very well. No insects...no ants even! There is lots of space to spread out after being at the beach all day and extremely comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with way more than the basics & we ate most of our meals around the dining room table. Jessie let us in the house and she made us feel very welcome-she is very sweet & helpful. The description is accurate, everything is extremely well maintained, excellent customer service & our family of 7 highly recommends this property... just wish we could stay longer! Thanks so much for sharing your home:)

The view brought us back 2 months later
This is our second visit this year. We fell for the island of Culebra and this house made our visits so welcoming, comfortable and memoriable. The view is truly magnificant, one we couldn't get out of our heads so we went back as soon as we could. The island is very small but the house's proximity to the little downtown area with grocery store and restaurants in one direction and a quiet beach to watch the sun set in the other was ideal for us. Highly recommend it. The owners are very responsive; happy to share their knowledge and answer questions. As stated in our previous review, they have put alot of thought into how to make their guests comfortable so that they can experience Culebra as much as they choose to.

Gorgeous views; owners know what renters want
My husband and I and our 16 year-old son just returned from a 3 night stay. Waking up each morning to this view was incredible! It is truly amazing! The house is very comfortable and quickly becomes a home away from home. The owners were extremely responsive to emails/questions and their welcome guide was our go to source for best snorkeling spots, restaurants, beach info etc. while on the island. They have put a lot of thought into what renters would like to know, what they may want at home to be comfortable etc. The house is so well stocked and organized. We cooked in a lot and my husband could not get over the crockery, spices etc. available to cook with. Beach chairs, towels and coolers for the beach - everything is available. One really has to rent a Jeep 4 wheel drive. We did rent one but had issues with ours so the car rental gave us a Jeep SUV and this was a problem. 1st visit to Culebra so can’t say what the vegetarian may have looked like before but we didn’t see much signs of the hurricane - thankfully. The island is beautiful, grocery stores stocked, a few restaurants are still cleaning up but it is very much ready for tourists. Flamenco beach was closed while we were there due to clean-up but we heard it is expected to open back up on March 1st. We will back for sure.

Wonderful, beautiful, clean home with amazing view
We came to Culebra with our 5 children (5-16 years old) and were greeted by Jessie right on time at the airport. We LOVE Culebra and have been to the island many times in the last 18 years. When we drove up to the house we were completely amazed! The yellow home is so beautiful with a very spacious patio and balcony, gorgeous landscaping and the location is perfect. We had views of the sunrise in the morning and just far enough out of town to have the best star gazing at night. Everyday we commented how awesome this house is! It's just like the pictures/description (or better:) and has absolutely everything you need...even a gas grill! Jessie was so nice, but we didn't need her at all in the 8 nights we stayed. Everything works! The breeze was so refreshing that we didn't even need the air conditioner...and we usually used the air conditioning at other properties at night. The house has its own water (cistern) and a back up for electricity in case you need it - we never did. If you've never been to Culebra, you probably would never know they had a couple hurricanes. The island is up and running well. We had perfect weather, the best accommodations, and a lovely trip. Beaches/hiking/snorkeling/day trip to Culebrita with Captain Bill & Dave during the day and a relaxing evening at home -making or getting food to go and having meals at night in this home was a joy. We will return and highly recommend this home. It has everything you need and NO MOSQUITOES!!! Never saw one. The owners of this home are patient with questions and extremely easy to contact. Jeff and Allissa thanks again so much for sharing your home - you have a beautiful home on Culebra and we appreciated every single thoughtful touch!

Unfortunately, Hurricane Irma cut out trip short but we thoughourly enjoyed our stay. The owners were some of the most responsive we've ever dealt with.

Great place for family or couples!
Jeff and Alyssa's place is awesome! They have a great view, awesome accommodations, and very friendly caretakers. Our kids had a blast in the room that is separate from the main house. It was also super nice to have beach chairs to tote around with us. I would recommend this property to anyone and Jeff and Alyssa were both very prompt and professional to deal with.

Awesome
Alissa and Jeff's home is awesome!! The view is outstanding, and the two decks allow you to enjoy it. We had 5 adults and a baby and the three bedrooms, each with private bathrooms, were wonderful. The interior is spacious and well-kept. The kitchen was well stocked. Alissa was our contact, and she was quick to reply and responsive to our needs. The house did not have a crib so she purchased a "pack and play". Jessie met us at the airport. She was very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely come back!!
