The house is located at the end of a gravel road ensuring quiet and privacy. The dining room is designed like the bridge of a ship with a sweeping view of ocean and seats 10. A stone fireplace in the living room and gas heaters keep the chill off in the shoulder seasons. The kitchen includes a gas stove, and gas grill outside, and all the amenities needed for steaming lobster and other culinary pursuits. The perfect place to spend a week with good friends.

We loved staying at Farleigh. Every detail was perfect in the house. The views off the patio made every evening a spectacular show of crashing waves, shimmering moon and dramatic sky. We even saw a full rainbow after a brief shower. The flowers and garden were beautiful as well and expertly maintained with lovely paths down to the rocky beach. The house was comfortable and decorated elegantly yet livable with a well stocked kitchen and comfy den with streaming TV and high speed internet connection . Peter was a fabulous host and answered all our questions. The history of the home and property make it a special place and we were so happy to be able to share in that history. Orrs Island had a great kayak rental place and cute lunch spot. Would recommend renting a kayak rather than using the one at the house, especially if you are less experienced. Brunswick had everything else anyone might want. We hope to visit again.

A Breath of Fresh Air
This secluded ocean-front property was the perfect venue for a family reunion -- five senor sisters, two significant others, and a female cousin meeting up for a family memorial service for our aunt and uncle. The property really does have almost almost anything you might need for cooking and socializing: tons of kitchenware including serveware, ample linens, and even a larder/pantry with some kitchen staples like coffee and sugar and spices. The beach is a bit perilous (slippery seaweed-covered rocks) for seniors and the unlit private road (with flying deer on occasion) a little iffy for night drives, but the views and art-filled historic house -- including a beautiful strawberry moon rising over the waves -- are balm to the soul. Our stay was affected by a covid outbreak -- eventually eight of the eight housemates caught the virus from one of our own coming in from California, which meant some major changes to our plans including cancellation for flights and new cross-country road trips -- but that was NOT the fault of the landlord or their beautiful property. (Happy to say that all of our covid-19 symptoms to date are "mild" -- like a very bad cold combined with walking pneumonia in my case -- and we seem to be slowly recovering.) Worth noting that the sea kayak is a one-person one and a little hard to maneuver and that you need to tote your garbage and recycleables to a nearby center, but neither were deal breakers for us. Groceries are available at a Hannaford up the road, as is an Urgent Care Center, God forbid you should need it! I should also note that all of us got lost using GPS getting there -- do ask Peter for explicit directions! I would love to rent this property again, despite our bad "covid" luck this time around.

Great experience!
Loved the quiet, private, end-of-road location. Sharing the beach was fine - the people renting next door were very friendly. Might be time to get new mattresses for the bedroom with two twins, and the twin on the third floor was too small for an adult. But we loved the deck and the ocean views! We even had some good luck fishing off the rocks in front of the house. Wonderful place!

Simply Magical
This property was nothing short of magical. The house exceeded my expectations in every way. It was fully equipped with anything you could need for your vacation, and all of the rooms were more beautiful and comfortable than I could’ve ever imagined. The ocean front view was just amazing, and the private beach was perfect. We enjoyed the house so much and spent so much time looking at the beautiful view. I can’t recommend this property enough!! We would love to come back again someday.

Farleigh
This house was amazing!! The view was spectacular. The kids ages 7, 10,12 and 15 had fun taking the paths down the rocks, playing in the water, climbing on rocks and collecting shells. Fun at both low and high tides, more kelp than expected but a beach was a short drive away!
The wrap around deck was great, spacious enough for everyone but we were still all together. The porch swing was everyone's favorite.
Kitchen was organized and very well stocked! Had everything we needed. Dining room was spacious and great views while eating with family. Livingroom with fireplace was great for family game night.
House had so many clever details and designs, every corner had something neat to discover. The bedrooms were perfect for our family of 10. Comfy beds, ample shelfs for clothing. The trundle bed was great for our little ones. The master bed had a "secret" room for kids to play. There were signs on the walls and kids drawings.
This house is exceptional and exceeded our expectations.
6 stars out of 5. Perfect!! No one wanted to leave!

Maine perfection
Our family stayed at Farleigh, the summer of 2020. It was beyond expectations and we enjoyed every moment of our time there. Our days started with coffee on the porch overlooking the ocean , then as hard as it was to pull ourselves away from the view we would spend the day, walking , hiking, biking and sailing. In the late afternoons we would reconvene for cocktails on the porch and prep for dinner in a well equipped kitchen . After dinner in the dining room, which had plenty of room for the eight of us , we would head back out to the porch to look at the stars, which are amazing!(We could see the Milky Way every night, and shooting stars) or head to the living room and light a lovely fire. Thank you to Peter our host for letting us stay in your beautifully cared for and loved home, it was truly a special time, Eileen

Dream House
This is our third time renting Farleigh and it never fails to impress us. The view alone is enough to keep us coming back but the house is an added bonus. You feel immediately at home with plenty of space for everyone and old time charm. (But we always end up on the porch regardless!)
A week never seems like enough here but we will take what we can get! Tara Sheeleigh

AMAZING!!!
This is an amazing home on a stunning piece of property!! The view from the deck is spectacular. What a pleasure to wake up every morning and watch the fishing boats check their lobster pots right offshore. The photos do not deceive: it is as lovely as it looks (and the kitchen is even nicer than the photo). We had a wonderful time there. Thanks to Peter who was super easy to deal with and provided lots of great info on the house and surrounding area.

A house with personality in a lovely location
Just spent a week with my entire family, 3 generations with 10 people in a home that has no doubt hosted many many stays of this nature. We loved it, wouldn’t ask for more

Fantastic house and location! Perfect for an extended family gathering
The house is full of charm and character but has all the modern amenities. The deck is amazing for breakfast lunch and evening drinks. And the location of the house at the end of the toad is private. Orrs Island and the surrounding area has so much to see and do. We will be coming back!

This property is 6 stars for the setting and the view. Mornings on the deck, in particular (site faces mostly east) are sublime. The grassy lawn between the house and the ocean are wonderful for romping (kids and pets) and impromptu croquet matches. You are very close to Bailey's Island as well, which also features a number of scenic vistas. The house itself was built early last century, so is a bit idiosyncratic in terms of layout and operation. This is mostly quite interesting, as you will continually spot a new detail or treasure that you had not previously seen. While there is no central heating, we were able to comfortably sustain unseasonably cool mid-50's temperatures over Memorial Day using the room heating and the large fireplace. The one opportunity for updating is the Wifi. While no one goes on vacation to a Maine island to surf the internet, connectivity within the house is concentrated in a couple of rooms. We would have liked to see a bit more reach. The owner was a delight to work with. Highly recommend this property.

My family just returned from a week at this very special home. The lot is extremely private and the views are AMAZING! The home itself is the perfect oceanside Maine home. The inside has all of the charm and warmth that you would want without skimping on the creature comforts you would expect from such a grand home. The enormous fireplace was a huge hit with the kids and adults alike. The kitchen was stocked with every pot, pan, dish, bowl and appliance you could possibly dream of...and more. The home overlooks a rugged coastline with crashing surf and at the same time allows plenty of room to search for sea glass at low tide. My family will remember this special place for years to come. I would highly recommend this home to anyone looking for a private, oceanfront getaway with room for at least 10 people.

The overwhelming beauty of Orr's Island is captured here!
Our family cannot thank Peter enough for providing us the perfect setting for an adult family vacation--the first time all of our kids were together in Maine (including spouses and significant others) since 1993. Having traveled from MO, PA and CA, it was worth every mile of travel to this incredible destination.
Our anticipation built as we took the winding gravel road down to the end of the Lane, where we found our destination, exactly as described and pictured. Actually, pictures cannot capture the inside character, water views, beautiful gardens/lawn area and the soothing sounds of the ocean.
Inside are artifacts, pictures, shelves of books and albums from three generation of family and furniture suited to the period and setting of the home--all of this adds to the magical nature of the location. The views from the living and dining rooms, and bedrooms that face the water are breathtaking. The kitchen, larder, and pantry were well equipped including the large pots that made our lobster cooking easy--especially when we had to fetch the sea water for "the only correct method" by which to boil the lobsters :) The substantial "lobster plates" made serving and eating them a real treat. The griddle accessory for the gas stove was perfect for toasting lobster rolls the next day along with enjoying toasted Anadama bread for breakfast
Coffee every morning on the porch was the routine for most all. (The sun rises to the "left" of and moves parallel to the front porch) Whether watching the cormorants, gulls, and songbirds, the lobstermen pulling traps within 100 yards of the shore, or just watching the tides move were relaxing routines that started every day off right.
The rocky coast and little rock/sand beach were perfect. We launched our kayaks from the beach (rented two others from H2Outfitters by the Cribstone Bridge--of course there is a single person touring kayak on the property that was used every day) and scoured the sand and rocks for sea glass--we found a lot!
Go to Erica's in Harpswell for takeout--recommended by a buddy from Yarmouth who knows how and where to eat, well worth the trip. We also had casual family photos taken by a local Harpswell photographer and were thrilled with how he captured the essence of our family and the beauty of the coast!

Secluded manse on the water
This home is sited on one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen. Down a long dirt road, and near, but not visible to, any surrounding properties, this early 20th century shingle and stone house looks out on endless blue water dotted with islands. Sailboats and lobster boats make frequent trips in front of the house. To the right, down a beautifully manicured lawn, is a path to the water. Rocks line the shore, so swimming is a challenge, but exploring is not. The front porch wraps around the house providing privacy if one so chooses. Inside is a warm and welcoming environment, replete with history. If looking for modern, this is not the place to come, even though the house is updated with all the modern conveniences: dishwasher, microwave, new stove, washer, dryer. But the feel is of an earlier, slower time.
There were no surprises upon arriving at this vacation spot. It looks exactly as it does in the pictures. It is beautifully maintained with lovely gardens, bursting with flowers. It has every supply necessary (paper towels, cleaning supplies, detergent, toilet paper, linens, towels). The owner is a wonderful man who was very gracious when I informed him that the kite we were flying got caught in the weather vane and refused to budge.
Four generations spent a week in this lovely place and all had a wonderful time. The younger folk took day trips to nearby sand beaches and parks, and caught a boat around Casco Bay. The elderly went to museums in Bath and Brunswick. I sat and read! It was a perfect vacation.

The quintessential Maine experience!
Our stay at this beautiful, rustic home on Orr's Island was everything we wanted it to be, a truly wonderful, memorable experience! Friends and family who came to visit had the same reaction as others have posted in previous reviews: "Wow!". I spent two months wading through hundreds of Maine seacoast rental ads, and the one thing I learned is to identify exactly what you want, in specific words. If an ad didn't say those words, it meant I wouldn't get what I wanted, no matter how upbeat the description was. In our case, our key words were "Oceanfront", "big porch overlooking the ocean", "privacy" and "quiet". This home fulfilled everything I could have asked for, and then some.
Now, if one of your required words is "ultra-modern", this isn't it. If you need everything to be perfect in a modern, sterile, state-of-the-art 2012 home, this isn't it. This is a century-old classic Maine summer home, which is its own kind of perfection. The kitchen doesn't sport granite countertops, and the house doesn't have central air conditioning. Instead there are cutting boards for the kitchen, and screened-in windows that open to allow a sea breeze off the water to cool the house naturally. The house is filled with the photos and books and memories of a family that has lived here (and continues to live here) for generations, and living here for one week was a genuine privilege for us.
A few practical notes: unlike one review here, we did not smell any "musty" smell, not even a hint. We did smell the subtle, lovely woodsmoke aroma of the massive stone fireplace in the living room. There was plenty of firewood available in the toolshed to take the chill off the early morning, or late evening. There is every imaginable dish, pot, pan, and other kitchen accessory imaginable, with the exception of a microwave...but who uses a microwave on vacation anyway? The 2nd floor bathroom has been completely re-done, and is lovely, modern, yet still in keeping with the rustic traditions of the house. There is wifi if you must use your iPhone or computer, and HD TV to watch the Red Sox. Cellphone service is spotty, but the landline phone in the living room was available at any time. Most of all, we loved that massive front porch, watching the lobstermen tend to their traps every day. We saw a wild turkey and a red fox on different days march across the front lawn. This house isn't for everyone, but it is the quintessential rustic Maine ocean experience. We loved it, and we'll be back!

Everything you could ever dream of in a Maine experience!
Our family stayed here for a week, and it was just not long enough. Not only is this house spectacular, so is the setting, the area, and the host. From the moment we walked up to the house, we knew we would have memories to cherish from our time there, and it was so true. My two boys loved exploring the land and the coast. The house is perfect for hide and seek. My favorite was sitting with coffee in the mornings, watching the ocean change, the lobster boats and feeling so tranquil. My husband enjoyed the books in the house, the kayak and the peace. The other thing that makes it perfect is the atmosphere created by the furnishings, the art, the little things that are part of the house and give it so much character. Plus, the location is very convenient to Portland, Freeport, and all the local areas to explore. We feel blessed to have spent some family time here, and left, hoping to return.

This is exactly what Coastal Maine should be. We had our wedding here and our family was able to stay at the house. Tremendous for family get togethers and a real retreat. Would highly recommend this to anyone for a relaxing Maine vacation

Wow. Good luck topping this place!
One guest after another arrived, and their jaws just dropped in awe, as they took in the house and the setting. If you want to feel like you've got your own historic mansion on your own stretch of Maine coastline, this is the place for you. There's a couple neighbors not too far away, but you can't really see them, as you sit on the amazing porch and gaze out at the ocean. You generally have to go much farther up the coast to feel this remote; and yet it's really close to a lot of the great things on the south/central coast without much effort. The house itself oozes ancestry and history and is comfortable, homey and well-furnished and -decorated; it's just a tad dusty and musty, but even that is sort of charming, if you ever had grandparents with a place that had that smell. Mind you, it's NOT a designer show house and doesn't have all the state-of-the-art amenities and updates -- and it doesn't have great bathrooms (quantity and quality), compared to everything else, so if those things are important to you, this might not be the place for you. But, overall, for our needs, it was truly amazing. You just don't want to leave!

Fantastic house!!
This house is wonderful and has every amenity you would want for a quiet Maine vacation. Fantastic view of the ocean from the huge deck. Lovely rooms and plenty of space for lots of people. Perfectly maintained. A classic oceanfront home - we took lots of pictures of this great house. Terrific location is a short drive to Brunswick and Freeport (great shopping). Owner is extremely accommodating and could not be more pleasant - a pleasure to deal with and very honest. I highly recommend this for any kind of family gathering or vacation. We will definitely return!
