La Jolla is situated on the Pacific Ocean. Our house is a 10 minute walk from all the attractions. Along the dramatic coastline lies Scripps Park, where families can picnic throughout the summer, while enjoying Fourth of July fireworks and concerts under the stars. Just south of the park is the Children’s Pool, where a seawall was originally built to protect kids from incoming waves, but has been long taken over by a local seal colony. At some times of the year swimming is no longer permitted, but you can walk out along the seawall for a close-up view of the wildlife.
La Jolla is also home to Birch Aquarium at Scripps Institute of Oceanography and plenty of cultural attractions including the La Jolla Playhouse and the Museum of Contemporary Art, all situated in close proximity to The Village, and our house. The University of San Diego, which hosts the popular Geisel Library and the Salk Institute for Biological Studies, are both located in La Jolla as well, a short car or bus ride up the coast from our house.
La Jolla's biggest draw for locals and visitors alike are the beautiful beaches. During the summer and autumn months, the surf is relatively gentle, with warm waters in 70s. Swimmers, snorkelers, scuba divers, kayakers and surfers can enjoy the golden sands of La Jolla Shores, the Cove and Windansea, all within walking distance of the house. And be sure to keep an eye out for migrating whales off the coast as they travel to and from Baja California.

We loved the location of the house as the ocean was just down the street. We didn’t cook or hang out much in the house but if you wanted to cook, the kitchen was nice. The bed was very comfortable, there was cable TV so we could watch the daily news which was a nice change from streaming apps.
Rita provided lots of beach equipment and beach towels. The backyard was beautiful with a huge magnolia tree blooming.
Rita was a lovely lady and we truly enjoyed chatting with her when we saw her.
It was our 8th anniversary trip and we filled it with as many things we could, ending our week going to a Bacon Brothers concert in San Juan Capistrano that was awesome as always.

What a wonderful stay. Rita is a fantastic host, checking in on our needs the first night and responsive to any questions throughout the stay. Her recommendations were spot on ( in fact we went back a second day to the taco place she recommended… it was that good). The property was cute, cozy, immaculate and close to so much . An easy walk to the beach and local restaurants and about 15-20 minutes to drive to many attractions including Sea World which we unexpectedly ended up visiting 3 times with our fun pass as our youngest was 2 inches above height restrictions and able to ride all the roller coasters for the first time. We packed in so much fun throughout the week. The girls are already asking when we can go back.

We had a fantastic holiday in Rita’s cottage. Rita has thought through what is important in a holiday home and provided it. Easy access to a Sandy beach, restaurants, bars and supermarket. The cottage has a lovely homely feel. We’d try to book here first if coming back.

Perfect beach cottage in a great location! We appreciated the quiet neighborhood, while being minutes away from the downtown experience. We also loved being minutes from the beach, shopping, and food. Rita was great to work with and she was an excellent communicator. We loved that the beach necessities were provided. We loved everything! We would stay here again!

We were so pleased with everything about this lovely cottage. All of the amenities were just perfect for our stay And, let me just say, Rita was a charm! So personable and accommodating- not enough words to describe. The location is ideal too with so many things like the beach, parks, restaurants and more, all in walking distance.

We really enjoyed our Thanksgiving holiday in this cozy house. The location is great, it's a quick walk down to a lovely, quiet beach and a wide variety of restaurants and shops. The neighborhood is quiet as advertised, but you’re only a short distance from more action if you want it. Our host Rita was helpful and responsive and made sure that all our needs were met and questions were answered. We’d definitely stay again when we’re in the area.

Cozy vintage cottage is wonderfully located near quiet Marine Street Beach and also near Pearl Street with its shops and restaurants. The hospitable host has provided wonderful creature comforts - foam mattress topper is so good I asked her for the info so I can buy one - and generous touches. We loved the verdant garden with its brick terrace and beautiful shade trees.

We stayed here as a family of 4 and had a wonderful stay. The location was ideal. It was a short drive to Legoland and the Zoo, 20 minutes to Mission Beach and Belmont Park, and walking distance to many places in LaJolla. We loved that we could walk to multiple beaches and to see the sea lions. Rita was very attentive and the home was clean with very comfortable beds. The check-in/check-out process was flawless. It was also helpful that there were beach towels and so many beach items so as a traveling family we did not need to worry about packing that all. We would definitely stay again!

As a family, we travel to San Diego from Denver 2-3 times per year. Each trip we stay at a different hotel or book on the other vacation rental platform. This trip, however, we found our favorite property and host, BY FAR! Pick something to ask me about this experience and the answer will be “awesome!” Rita is so kind and accommodating. We’re already planning to book for Christmas!

We had a great time at this very cute cottage. It was super close to the beach and yet a very quiet neighborhood. Yet also close to fun restaurants like The Flower Pot. We'd definitely come back, hostess was very responsive too.

The property was small but just right for my wife and I to have a little get away from our busy lives. It was great to be able to just wander around downtown La Jolla and to go to the beach that was just three blocks away. We will definitely return.

My husband and I have been coming to La Jolla for a January get away for 15 years now. Rita’s cottage is the one of the coziest and most welcoming places we have stayed. The cottage is so comfortable and has everything you need. The location is perfect, right in between Windansea Beach and La Jolla cove, and walking distance to many great restaurants. Rita was super communicative and resolved the one issue we had (totally out of her control!) quickly. You can’t go wrong with this property.

This was our first VRBO experience and it was great. The house was well stocked with everything we needed, including thing for our infant. The location was awesome. We had so many great options within walking distance. Our kids had a great time. We would definitely come back.

Premiere Host indeed. Property and guests well cared for. Located within walking distance of many restaurants, grocery and gas. Quiet, peaceful neighborhood and scent-free home so sleeping is good quality. Very clean, all appliances in working order and all needs were met with the kitchen and cookware. Sad to leave our too-short vacation and will hopefully stay here in the future and see our wonderful host again.

First of all, RITA is the ABSOLUTE BEST! We booked this place for my Best Friend's "get ready" house for her wedding...so it was important we locked it in. I was having issues with VRBOs messaging and Rita was kind and patient with my flurry of messages. She was extremely responsive and an overall sweetheart.
The house is SO FREAKING CUTE, and there is a comfortable queen size air mattress some of us blew up and used in the living room.
The location was perfect, there are so many restaurant options/shops within walking distance and the beach is right there.
If I ever have another reason to stay in La Jolla, I will most definitely be staying here again!

Great little property close to restaurants and a short walk to Marine St Beach. Rita was responsive to questions and she was kind enough to let us know when we could check in a little early. House does have some specific rules but they’re common sense and help keep an older cottage in good shape. Definitely kid friendly with utensils/plates, pack and play, and random toys and games.

We loved the location of this property! Just blocks away from the beach! Walkable to many restaurants and a grocery store! We made great use of the beach toys provided by Rita! Rita was great at communicating with me! Always responded within an hour of messaging her! Thanks for sharing your home!

Alrhough we were hoping to escape the Arizona heat for cool La Jolla, the weather refused to cooperate. 😁 On the plus side, Rita's bungalow was a comfortable, quaint respite with everything needed for a long weekend. The best part was the convenient location to the beach, grocery store, and restaurants although we cooked for most of our meals. Rita did her best to make sure our stay was worry-free. She even came over late one evening to fix the portable air conditioner, thank goodness! The house does not have central air, so those room units helped us sleep well in very humid conditions. All in all, the house is wonderful, and Rita is a gracious host. You will not be disappointed.

Our stay was great! It's very child friendly and had a lot of kid gear--even more than what's listed. I'd recommend asking if you need something because they might already have it (pack n play, bath mat, etc.). We look forward to coming back!

Wedding weekend
Me and my wife and daughter were in town for my cousins wedding in La Jolla and Rita’s house was the perfect place to stay. It’s a small place in a quiet neighborhood away from the beach crowds. It’s a cozy little place and we felt very comfortable there, and it’s in a great location just minutes away from all the places we wanted to visit. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone wanting to get away for the weekend.

It was the perfect place for my daughter and I!
Renting was a smooth process. Rita communicated throughout the stay and even gave us some local brews while we were here! It’s the perfect place if you’re looking for something in La Jolla!

Thank you Rita
We had a lovely 2 week stay at this property. Owner is right next door, very responsive and friendly. The back yard is beautiful. There is plenty of beach equipment (including surf boards) and bikes, as well as children's toys. My only minor complaint is lack of closet storage space, but we had a lot of stuff. The closets are 1/2 full w/ things, but plenty of drawer space. Kitchen was very well stocked with equipment and a nice size. In a chilly 2 weeks in LJ the heat worked quite well.

Great location & good value
Charming little beach cottage with EXCELLENT location! It's an older home with a lot of charm and perfect for a couple of nights. I'd love to give it more stars but there are some things that could easily be improved. An example is the towels provided. While they're plentiful so many are completely thread-bare and should just be thrown out. There are also notes/instructions everywhere on what to do with lights, internet, shoes, shower, garbage disposal, etc.. I appreciate the guidance because I don't want to damage anything, but it makes the property feel older and it looks cheap. There are prettier ways to display these notes than just taping them to a wall. Feels like the the bare minimum is being spent to make the house look cute when there is so much more potential possible. With that said, it is still a great place, very clean and the patio/garden is amazing.
