We had 8 people staying. Had plenty of room . We loved the sunroom for looking at the beautiful views and playing lots of card games . We usually stay in Tennessee, but this year we decided to stay a little further out. We were only 20 minutes from our destination and we enjoyed ourselves immensely and we hope to return soon.

Great place, great time

To say we loved staying here would be an understatement. Many places are rental houses, but this was more like a home away from home. There was a sense of welcoming in every room. The porch view exuded relaxation. Our stay was brief, but our next one will definitely be here and will be much longer.

The house was incredibly clean! I always go into rentals expecting to need to do a little cleaning before I cook or use the bathrooms cause normally some thing’s are overlooked but that was not the case here. There was not a dead bug anywhere, the dishes and kitchen were cleaned and spotless everything was so nice and inviting. I was a little nervous about the ‘no a/c’ thing and it being in June, but that was not a problem at all. We opened the windows and it actually got chilly at night. The driveway is very steep and I totally get why you need 4WD in the winter but it wasn’t a problem. The property was just so peaceful and relaxing. The perfect getaway!

Excellent on all fronts!

This property was just what we needed! It is the perfect place to unplug and unwind; however, the house has incredible WiFi if you don’t want to unplug. The house was beautiful and extremely clean when we arrived and had everything we needed for the perfect long weekend. The homeowner was extremely attentive and checked to see if there was anything we needed and there wasn’t. Overall probably the best VRBO stay that we have ever had. The herds of deer on the property and the private trout pond made the stay even more special. I cannot say enough positive things about the homeowner or the house. We are definitely happy with the experience and will definitely stay there again!

This property is spectacular with lots of green space for the kids to run around and play, a stream running through the property where the kids spent hours hunting for crawfish and salamander and a stocked pond for fishing. (We were there in the very early spring, so the pond water level was down and no fish due to it not being stocked yet for the season)
The home itself was very cozy and had plenty of space for our 2 families of 4. Wonderful wood burning fireplace in the living room that made it even better and a fantastic sunroom with tons of seating. The kitchen was also well equipped! Mary Frances couldn’t have been a better host and you can tell she truly cares about her home. She was wonderful and available to answer all questions and gave great local recommendations for food.

Our visit was wonderful. Cabin cozy, clean, well equipped and a great place to relax and be with friends. We plan on going back.

Our part of eight stayed in this mountain cabin, which was perfect for our needs. It was private, so we did not have to worry about disturbing neighbors. It was very comfortable having four bedrooms and a separate large sun room over looking the Mountain View. Although we were gone during the daytime, we enjoyed sitting around the fireplace and making dinner at the cabin instead of eating out. Communication with the owner was very transparent . Would definitely suggest renting this cabin. Our group all agreed that we would come back if given the opportunity.

15 min to both mountains to ski and nice property so our dogs could roam. House was nice older cabin, few minor things could use repair but overall we would love to stay there again some day!

We all really enjoyed our stay. The cabin was perfect for our family vacation. It is in a great location, beautifully decorated and maintained. The owner was so helpful with information about the area and an absolute pleasure to work with. It was a great time!

Owner was very communicative. Property was beautiful, private and very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the herd of deer daily. She had a pack and play for my grandson so we were able to have one on each level as we had also brought one with us. Very enjoyable stay. Thank you!

Everything was perfect. The cabin was cozy and homey. The location was close to hiking trails and Banner Elk. Mary Frances is delightful and quick to respond to any problems. We would stay there again.

We had a great time! Location and place was perfect for our family!

We loved the cabin. Great location with many activities and food choices near. Perfect with a main floor bedroom and 3 others upstairs. Beautiful views and great porch.

We had a lovely time in a very comfortable and relaxing environment. The cabin is located in a picturesque and relatively secluded environment - there's only one neighbor in sight or sound distance. My adult daughter really liked the pear tree out front and the porch swing. We hope to stay again one day!

My husband and I invited another couple to join us along with their daughters (2 & 11) and one of their moms. Such a great time! Between the enormous back room facing the woods, the front living room — with dear wandering past the window — and the big kitchen table, we could easily gather or find privacy. This cabin feels every bit like a beloved family vacation home.
The bears had beat us to any fish in the pond, but the walk down to it is a gorgeous nature hike. Loved watching deer eat fallen pears below the tree in front of the house. We were in the area for the Land of Oz and didn’t find the drive back and forth to the mountain top overly daunting. I appreciated the laundry facilities as we were there five nights in the midst of a two-week road trip.
Our host was quick and helpful in reply to my only on-site question, and was professional and attentive before and after our stay. I heartily recommend and would happily return.

This home is always perfect! The owner communicates well and is flexible when able. The house is a great location close to everything and not a scary driveway lol. You will always see deer and its a peaceful retreat. We have stayed here 2x and will continue to book this place. We have an 18, 16, 15 14 year old kids and there was great space inside and out for them to enjoy their space as well. We played games in the sunroom and walked the property when not out doing things in town

This cabin was just what I was hoping for : a cozy mountain getaway that felt private and tucked away in the trees by a meadow, while being close enough to drive into town for dinner. My boys (11 and 13) enjoyed the trout pond, the deer, the pear tree, and the tv, while my in-laws enjoyed the sunroom and a private downstairs bedroom. My husband and I appreciated the comfy king-sized bed and just being with family in lovely place. It had everything we needed, plenty of space, was clean, instructions were clear, and our host communicated clearly and responded quickly. I was really sad to leave!

This vintage 1982 cabin provides all the basics for a calming family retreat. There is room for everyone to be together or spread out. Wildlife viewing and star gazing were wonderful from the front porch, while reading was our preferred pastime on the comfortable enclosed back porch. We observed the Milky Way, deer, turkey, fireflies, chipmunks and 38 species of birds from the cabin. There were large spans of time where the only sounds were from an occasional bird. I have never experienced such deep quietness. Even though it was the hottest weekend of the year, we stayed cool and sleep was refreshing due to the quiet, cool air, and large comfy beds. The kitchen has all the essentials and there is a washer and dryer in the basement. Consider buying all your groceries before you drive up the mountain to the cabin, as you may not want to go back into town! There are two other vacation cabins that share the ridge. While we were there a large family reunion was happening with all the accompanying happy sounds of music, family, and kids playing in what must be a swimming pool on the deck. There were moments when I longed to have the entire ridge to ourselves as the quiet, when it was quiet, was what I needed more than anything. Mary Frances was a great and thorough communicator and we enjoyed the glimpses into the O’Malley’s family history on the mountain.

We enjoyed the peacefulness and we were impressed with the hosts responsiveness to any inquiries.

We had a wonderful stay. The cabin is secluded, quiet and full of old-fashioned charm. It is a very easy drive back into Banner Elk. As a biologist, I enjoyed the birding, fishing and wandering around the property finding diverse foliage and wild mushrooms. I even enjoyed listening to a bear exploring ours and nearby properties. I was concerned about the lack of air-conditioning, but the nights were perfectly cool and it was great sleeping with the windows open. We will be back.

Had a great time with friends and dogs.

This magnificent cabin was the perfect getaway..the host /owner could not have been anymore pleasant and kind. Truly cared about our comfort.

Love the setting of this older home, located smack dab in the middle of a peaceful pasture with deer running around and zero light pollution. We will be back.

Everything was awesome, Mrs. Mary was an amazing host, her house was perfect and she was extremely acomodating. We will definitely rent it again in the future.

Really enjoyed the property and location. House was just as advertised and everything you really need for a cozy getaway. Went for a weekend trip with a buddy and his kids who had not seen snow. It snowed in the last day we visited and into the morning. Really appreciate Mary Frances allowing us to check out late (and check in early) for our trip so we could spend some extra time sledding in the awesome hill in the front.

We loved our trip! Our host could not have been more helpful and this charming log cabin was the perfect spot for our family trip. We would love to visit again!

This was the perfect spot to getaway with my family, relax, and enjoy all that the mountains have to offer. The cabin was wonderful. It was everything we needed for our getaway. The kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The fireplace was wonderful after a day out in the snow and it was spacious enough for everyone. It was also great to have the washer and dryer so we didn't need to overpack. In addition, the views from the property are just beautiful and thanks to the property owner the check-in and check-out process was seemless. 5 stars!!!

We stayed the week before Thanksgiving. The cabin is located at the top of a mountain with incredible views. In the morning, it is so relaxing to see the sunrise and it is special to witness the sunset.
The cabin is conveniently located near Banner Elk and close to Boone.,
The kitchen is well stocked to cook a gourmet dinner.
Mary Francis is a wonderful hostess and took care to make sure we were comfortable.
We are definitely planning to return late spring or early summer.

This cabin is absolutely perfect for a quiet time of rejuvenation and exploration of the beautiful Banner Elk area. It is closely located to both Beech Mountain and Sugar Creek attractions, as well.
The owner has taken great care to provide everything necessary for your stay, and you can tell how well-loved the cabin is by the owner’s family. Whether spending time in the front porch rockers viewing wildlife or in the sunroom listening to the mountain breeze, this rental will take you back to a time when life seemed simpler and slower of pace, and the biggest concern of your day would be deciding whether to take a stroll down the lane or put another log on the fire. We highly recommend this cabin and will return as soon as we can.

We loved our stay! The location was perfect, the host was always available to answer questions, the beds we comfortable (a huge deal to us!), and it was equipped with everything we needed. You really do feel your blood pressure drop and relaxation set it at this cabin! Lots of deer, and turkey daily. We only wish we could’ve stayed longer!
4.9
Our family enjoyed this cabin so much! Quiet and so peaceful! Saw a bear, and deer eating from the fruit trees in the evening. Host communication was exceptional! We hope to return when we can stay longer.

We stayed over Labor Day weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather and a secluded lawn in a cabin surrounded by beautiful trees. Love the sunroom living space in addition to the space off the kitchen with the fireplace. Having two den spaces was great because there were lots of little areas where people could gather. The cabin feels rustic with family friendly decor and a nod to Ireland in almost every room. Definitely got the feel of old world hospitality, cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and listening to the rain fall on the roof outside at night was heavenly. I am happy for places that rely on natural cooling instead of air conditioning, it just feels so much more authentic - why drive to the mountains to just keep the windows shut the whole time? There were lots of deer and wild turkey in the yard, attracted to the fallen pears and apples that renew each morning. We also spent time on the front porch in the rocking chairs and the swing. Just a great place to post two or three small families for a long weekend.

Everything online is accurate! This is a peaceful, clean, and wonderful getaway. The owner is amazing to communicate with during your stay. The home has just about everything you can need. We saw families of deer, enjoyed the land and fishing.
4.9
The cabin feels just like being in our own home but in a more beautiful location.
Everything we needed was provided. It was a very tranquil setting. We saw deer every morning and evening. The sun room was our favorite place to chill. It was a little bit warm during the late afternoon without AC, but everything cooled off quickly and we slept so well! Mar Frances was wonderful in communicating before and during our stay. Thank you so very much!

Great cabin!
We loved staying at this adorable cabin. It felt like home. I was worried about not having air conditioning but once the windows were opened it wasn’t an issue.
