The house is in an elevated part of the old town, up on an escarpment, with superb views down across the valley and surrounding mountains from the big, wide rear terrace.
The home is dated internally, circa 1970's, but is generally very clean and functional, if a little bit tired.
We are used to older Italian and French places to stay in like this, and to us, it is part of connecting more with local life and makes it more homely and authentic, but that may not be the case for someone who expects a modern, hotel-like experience.
It is only a few minutes (steep) walk down to the main street, where you will find a number of cafes, bars and restaurants, as well as supermarkets, chemists, bakeries and so on.
The host, Rosa, is a very warm and friendly person and very Italian in the way of hospitality.
She has some English speaking ability as well, which is not usually the case with older Italians in a provincial township and that helps a lot if you cannot speak Italian!
It is clear that she makes an effort to welcome guests and provide as pleasant a stay as possible within the context of the budget style price.
The location of the town is excellent for visiting many beautiful places within up to an hours drive.
Here is where it gets a bit difficult to describe without making it sound terrible!
This is a review and it would be waste of time and misleading, if I did not honestly let you all know the things about the place that can be potentially unacceptable to some people, no matter what the price.
The main bathroom is downstairs, while the bedrooms are all upstairs.
It is very tight in there, an average person cant sit on the toilet like normal, a leg will hit the shower screen! So, you need to sit sideways on it!
Likewise, the shower cubicle is the smallest I personally have ever seen and you have to be very careful when you are washing yourself not to bump the taps, shower hose and head and the glass shelf where the soap and shampoo are placed.
So you that you can visualise it, I am a keen cyclist, so I definitely am not overweight!
Then, there is the toilet upstairs....
It is in a space where you would normally expect a closet to be, at the end of the hallway. I do mean at the end of the hallway, not in a room off the hallway! It is also very small and has a folding screen you pull shut when you use the toilet.
Trouble is, once again the space is so small, you have to leave the screen door open to be able to sit on the toilet, so you are then basically sitting in full, open view in the hallway!
Clearly, these two points will be a deal-breaker for some people. We are just two people, a long time married couple. I cannot see these facilities working so well if you are a family with teenagers or a group of friends. ( unless you are very special friends, perhaps :-) )
Finally, the parking is wherever you can find a place on-street and the street is very narrow mostly, with not many spots. On the third night, our small hire car was deliberately paint scratched with a piece of wire. If you have a big insurance excess this can be a disaster. I suspect a local wasn't happy a stranger parked because no other car was damaged. Your risk.

Stunning views of the mountains and river valley from the large terrace. Spacious house with large rooms ... great for a large family or a group of friends.
Furnishings are comfortable and functional, but a bit dated.
