Very relaxed and friendly and very good food in a rather beautiful setting by a river

This place will always have a special place in our family’s hearts, it’s a hidden spot that gave is the best time in Sri Lanka! The host Jeevan was extremely kind and generous that he never hesitated to help and get out of his way to make us feel home! He took us to explore great places in his area on his tuktuk and the kids just loved his place ! We couldn’t get over the breathtaking views starting from early morning till evening, It’s filled with great energy, thank you for making our trip unforgettable!

We visited at the end of our 2 week stay in Sri Lanka and it was easily the nicest hotel we've been to. The place felt like a little oasis with amazing views over the river, we spent a couple hours in the infinity pool watching eagles hunt there.
Jeewana was a great host. He gave us a lot of tips of what to see in the area and even drove us to a sea turtle sanctuary. Fantastic stay, would definitely come back!

great location and friendly staff
5.0 / 5.0
My stay at Jeewanas was absolutely perfect and a more sri lankan experience than I had imagined. You really get to live in the real sri lanka at a beautifully calm location. Well with many sounds from nature though, but only those.
The Kayaking on the lake is a must do too.
Jeewana even made it possible to have some endemic fruits which I didn't get to find anywhere, not even at the best hotels and restaurants. If you choose this place, tell him what you wanna experience and enjoy.
PS
Sri Lanka is perfectly safe to visit, at least as safe as home (CH). Take a stroll through the neighborhood, you will be surprised. Experience the island for yourself and decide.

Our stay was fabulous. We didn't know what to expect and the open plan design and layout of the resort is just gorgeous.
The staff were friendly and very helpful and had a great time.
As our visit was towards the end of the season, the kitchen wasn't open/ they needed some notice if you wanted food. Pre-ordered breakfast and it was delicious though.

Dont look any further. This should be your place to stay at. Great staff, beautiful view on the lake, comfortable rooms and nice swimming pool. You can use the kayaks for free and the surroundings here are stunning. A lot of different kind of birds, monkeys, bats and other animals to spot on the lake. The owner speaks good English and you can see he puts a lot of effort to make this place perfect for his guests.

Kalapuwa resort is that place what offers you a quiet and relaxing way to enjoy your holiday. The owner Givana is very helpful and friendly, plus great person to talk to about everything. They offer delicious food and if you want you don’t need to leave even from the hotel to enjoy calmness and your holiday. The owner has a horse (pony) named Flika who gives the spirit to Kalapuwa resort.

Such a great location! A calm place at the lake. You can start boat safari straight vom the Resort. Food is delicious! Usually I eat outside the stay, but in Kalapuwa Ressort I went for breakfast and dinner every day. Authentic kitchen with very good quality. The staff was so nice and welcoming. It really felt like home.

The hotel itself is stunning. The views out over the lake are beautiful and the staff clearly take pride in keeping it all very clean and tidy. They have kayaks that you can use whenever and the pool is lovely. We had breakfast and lunch, both of which were delicious. The main host, Jeewana, could not have been better. He was helpful, respectful and had a great sense of humour. In particular, when my friend hurt herself, he went above and beyond to support us at the hospital and pharmacy, taking a lot of time out of his day to do so. Cannot recommend this resort highly enough as a welcoming oasis.
We liked all of it!

Everything! From the very beginning - the reception area, the hotels territory look amazing, all green and natural, clean and comfortable at the same time. The staff is performing at its best - always ready to help, providing information and making sure my stay is comfortable. The room meets all the requirements, clean, all is working properly, the furniture is very good and of course the view. And kayaking is just an awesome activity, I saw true Sri Lankan life while kayaking on the Madu Ganga river.

Stuff was exceptional, we were spoiled beyond possible. Pool with warm water, good room interior as well as gorgeous view. Shower with hot water, fast WiFi. This place was so good it made leaving Sri Lanka harder for us.
Nothing. Everything was perfect

A fantastic place to stay if your intentions are to unwind and detach yourself from the hustle and bustle of every day life. Total tranquility and peace, made even better by the extent to which they’re willing to go to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Would have stayed longer if I could but I’ll certainly be coming back. If you want calm and serenity, look no further.

This is truly a wonderful place. The location is calm and peaceful with beautiful views of the lake. The room was clean, spacious and well maintained with all the modern amenities. Beds were super comfy too. There are kayaks and paddle boards for guests to use. Food was really delicious.
Staff were really friendly, attentive and super helpful. Jeewana - the owner kindly accompanied me on a kayak trip on the river and it was definitely the highlight of the trip. We saw a lot of jumping fish and birds. Kayaking allows you to enjoy the peaceful beauty the river without disturbing the wildlife. This is easily my favourite place in Sri Lanka.
Nothing.

View of the lagoon and a couple of hours on the paddle boards exploring the mangroves. The structure of the building is elegant, the floor of polished concrete finish. It was appreciated the manager assisted with errands using own tuktuk and did not charge for a failed dinner.
It is not a matter of like or dislike but what purpose the lodge is designed to serve. It appears to be organised and run to suit Sri Lankan guests tastes, especially families. If one expects comfort and recreation in a European or Western sense it is bound to be disappointing. The furnishings, grounds and pool do not provide for being comfortable with a drink in the lounge or for relaxing by the pool with enough shade, peace and quiet, and without being stung. Covering yourself with insect repellent is neither pleasant in the hot sun no practical for a dip in the pool. The grounds are kept quite natural which does prevent insects from breeding profusely in dank shady areas. We were not impressed by the cooking either, and left most of our dinner which was promised to be fresh fish with Sri Lankan spices. It is also worth mentioning a canteen style dining room with long tables and benches, a cold glaring lighting and a large screen in the centre showing sports. The rate USD 50 did not include even a small breakfast. We left after night, and the manager was wise to make it easy which was rewarded with a tip.

The facilities were great! Really beautiful location and very peaceful. Staff was friendly and helpful.
The food needs to be much better. The breakfast was pretty bland and the quantity could have been much more. If the food is is improved it'll improve the entire experience.

Wow! The beauty of the location, the design, amenities, the staff - from the first moment we stepped into Kalapuwa resort, we were amazed and felt we were staying in a 5* boutique hotel. We were lucky to have the resort to ourselves for the majority of our 4-nights stay and enjoyed every minute of it. The family villa we stayed in, was spacious and very comfortable with a great view from the balcony, the pool area was excellent and kept very clean. The towels were incredibly fresh and fluffy, the bedding of great quality, the bed was really comfortable. We were pampered by the attentive staff, who also helped with airport transfer and scooter rental. Highly recommended and would definitely love to stay at Kalapuwa again someday.
For the price, breakfast could be a bit fuller and have more variety.
