About this cabin rental
Lovingly restored historic Adirondack Bird Camp is surrounded by wildflower meadows with beautiful mountain views. Located on family compound of glamping tents and unique cabins. Wildflower meadows to wander, a private firepit for star gazing and just down the road from beautiful 13th Lake.
Enjoy a hot tub experience in our new Japanese temple-like spa!
Most nights we offer wood-fired pizza. Close to rail biking, whitewater rafting and the town of North Creek.
Lovingly restored by the great-granddaughter of the original owners, this unique historic cabin still retains many original details and decorations. Many visitors say they feel like they’re stepping back in time. There are lovely leaded glass windows, a handsome rustic stone fireplace, richly stained wood walls, beautifully faded oriental rugs and original china. There is a tidy new country kitchen with reclaimed porcelain sink, new gas stove, fridge, microwave, dishes and utensils.
Upstairs are two bedrooms each with a double bed, wide pine floors, and country décor. And at last --- after 100 years of our relatives using an outside “privy” back when this was just a summer “camp”, we have a bathroom -- clawfoot tub with shower hoop and beautiful vessel sink on original ladies wash vanity. Towels and soaps provided. The bathroom window offers the best view of the mountains.
There are treasured family hand-me-downs as well as odds and ends which nobody felt comfortable throwing away. Like all family camps, there are bits and pieces of everyone who came before; wooden floors record the scuffs and scratches of generations. There are many photographs showing life at “camp” since the turn of the century. All this gives this Adirondack cottage its own special personality, a unique sense of space --- a treasury of feelings, sensations and memories of family and friends.
The house sleeps four to six comfortably: there are two bedrooms each with double beds. On the glassed in porch is a single bed and there is a sofa in the living room.
The land is truly spectacular. In summer, wildflower meadows spill down the hill, flanked by beautiful forests.
We welcome your well-behaved dog as long as he or she stays OFF the furniture, isn't left alone in the house and stays on leash to protect our chickens and ducks.
The Hudson River is at the bottom of our little mountain. In the spring, summer and fall, there is white water rafting for reasonable rates. You can also rent a tube and float down river (the nearby rafting company can rent you the tubes, then pick you up and then bring you back). Of course, the river offers fishing, bathing or just a great place to sit by and think.
Enjoy a hot tub experience! Built within a beautiful Japanese temple-like structure on one of the most beautiful spots of our land, our all natural no-chemical hot tub is a delightful way to start your morning, relax after hiking or winding down after dinner. Available for a private experience for $25 for an hour of wonderful relaxation. Let us know if you would like to book.
We have a happy lab dog Sammy who enjoys spending time with our guests. We have free ranging chickens (get some eggs from the henhouse) and sweet waddling ducks.
Most nights in the summer, we offer wood fired pizza. Here’s how it works. We make and provide the dough, and guests bring their own toppings. We fire up the wood-fired pizza in the late afternoon. By six, the wood fire has died down and the oven is about 800 degrees. From six to seven-thirty, guests come to the pizza pavilion with their toppings and we help them cook their pizzas. Because the oven is so hot, the pizzas cook in about three minutes. Lots of fun! Requested of donation of $8 ($5 for children) for firewood, dough and maintenance, please.
So make time to get away! It’s an easy scenic drive from NYC --- just go north right up Route 87, get off just past Lake George and then a beautiful 30 miles through the mountains to our place.

great location, large fields and open sky to see stars. No water on the property by the Hudson river is nearby as well as other lakes. We love rustic...! Old fashioned Adirondack decor, neat as a pin, and a good kitchen.
daybed on the sleeping porch was comfy. Cottages are placed far enough apart and separated by trees so that there is much privacy. Outdoor firepits or grills for each location. Great spot!

My sister, brother-in-law and I stayed in late June. I wanted to share the Adirondacks with them. I loved Bird Camp and staying in an historic home. We loved sitting on the porch watching the meadow and clouds. The pizza is fantastic! I am already planning how to return next year.

Leslie accommodated my request and made changes ti my reservation twice. I really amazed by how she was quick to act on it. The place is impeccable and very cute. I actually didn’t stay at this house and I stayed in other cabin of her. The environment and cabins are epic! I will definitely come back again!

This was a nice place for us to stay for skiing at Gore in an out of the way spot, still within 10 minutes of Gore. Will certainly stay again.

Peaceful rustic getaway
The cabin was nice and cozy on the cool 40*F nights, we never needed to run the heat at night only in the morning to knock the chill out. The beds were a little firm but we slept well. There are two bedrooms but our daughter opted to sleep in the bed out on the porch, which she throughly enjoyed.
We ordered a pizza and had a great time socializing with some other geust as well as the property owners. Our daughter LOVED playing with their new puppy Bella.
The wifi worked well and we actually had good cell service every where on top of the hill, but not in the valley.
The hot tub was fantastic and has a nice privacy enclosure. Though i was disspointed that while in the water the scenic view is blocked by the enclosure.
All in all this place has quite a bit of rustic charm. The Bird Camp cabin probably has a good mountain view in winter when the leaves are off the trees, but the large open field in front of the house was quite nice in itself and made it feel more secluded.
I would definitely like to stay here again when coming back to the area.

Rustic cabin rental for ski trip
Cozy, very warm, no frills cabin was great for skiing at Gore. On a large property that looks like it would be amazing in the summer! Hot tub was also a neat, unique experience.

Cozy Relaxing Respite
Thoroughly enjoyed staying at this restored early 1900's cabin. Were able to prepare all of our meals there to avoid going out to restaurants. Our dog very much liked exploring the 40 acres and Shield Road. The location allowed us to hike and geocache this area of the Adirondaks. Will be returning.

This property bring the past to future. It is a great experience there. If you have any prior medical injuries may need to bring an extra pillow for comfort. Also, if you need modern TV if you want to watch your shows, bring a tablet or something. The tv is VHS which we loved because they offer all of the disney movies for the kids. It kept the kids busy but if you want some adult time away, then bring another device unless you want to share. I love this place because its quiet and allows room to roam and hike.

Cold yet beautiful
It was a great experience for the most part. Very cold out, older style home which we were in love with. We specialize in fixing old homes for a living so we are all very happy to stay in such a cool place. The home was built back in the 1900's and we love seeing the old methods used to build a home like that. It was quiet and enjoyable.

this is an old farm house, I'm guessing at least 100 years old, with few upgrades. It's comfortably furnished and charmingly decorated but this is not deluxe accommodations. Come for the charm and the beautiful setting. Our biggest complaint was the heat. The ground floor was drafty but tolerable yet the upper bedrooms were almost intolerably hot. This was in early March. We did enjoy the vintage claw foot bathtub.

One of a kind gem in the Adirondack’s
Love, love loved the place. If you appreciate uniqueness and family history, this place is amazing. My girlfriend and I spent two nights here after skiing Gore. Perfect to u wind and relax. The stars were awesome at night and the fire was cozy.

The Bird Camp cabin was cozy and welcoming, had everything we needed for the weekend, and close to Gore Mountain for skiing. We loved our stay! Definitely book an hour in the hot tub!

Charming historic house in beautiful, bucolic setting
North River Hobby Farm is a magical place. Scenic, secluded and peaceful but a short drive from our favorite cross country ski trails at Garnet Hill. Leslie was a great host, responding quickly to our questions.

Unkept Chinese Themed Cabin
We rented this home expecting a “nicely worn” cabin in the woods. The stairway to enter the home was falling over and had no railing. The heating system inside the home was broken; my husband and I had to feed a fire every 3 hours. The owner of the property promised a partial refund in which she did not follow up with. The home is obviously neglected and a rip off for its nightly cost. Do not rent this home unless you enjoy looking at zebra art and Chinese themed furniture. It’s a shame a home with such a beautiful exterior and view could be ruined by its owner and presented to renters as a”cabin”.

The Blue Cabin
If you get the Blue Cabin claim the single bed downstairs. As you snuggle under the heavy covers you can look out at the night sky.

Cute place. Cozy. Would definitely come back.
Such a nice place to stay, rain or shine. Comfy, great 90’s videos, good beds, lots of charm. Wish we’d done the pizza. Also it’s very close to Garnet Hill and whitewater rafting on the Hudson.

Cozy & quiet
We had a great time staying here, the place was so cozy and it was great to disconnect from reality for a couple days. We spent a lot of time out by the fire pit and even got to meet Sammy the dog! Great experience

Spacious and Charming Retreat
Had a great time staying at the Bird Camp. The cottage is located at the far end of the property, with beautiful hillside views. Had charming decor and a lot of space to spread out, very welcome after a long car drive to the Adirondacks. Kitchen was very well appointed making it easy to put our dinner together quick. Everything was clean. Missed the friendly dog, as we arrived late and left early, but maybe next time.

Wonderful experience
My husband and I and 3 kids (ages 4 years, 2 years and 2 weeks) booked a last minute stay for 4 nights and could not have been happier. The place was perfect and Leslie was incredibly responsive and went over the top in making sure we had everything we needed. The kids loved picking wild flowers in the meadow out front, my husband and I spent hours each night sitting by the fire pit watching the stars and fireflies -- it was magical.

A great place to relax and get away from it all
We loved our stay and would definitely return sometime. The cabin is beautifully maintained and the historic nature of it is something you can't get everywhere. It's in a beautiful setting and we enjoyed walking our dogs around, the kids loved the tree swing and there were plenty of games, puzzles, etc to enjoy in the cabin. Highly recommend enjoying the brick oven pizza at least one night - what a treat! If you're looking to stay someplace unique but still be close enough to the white water rafting, railbiking, etc that the area has to offer, this is the place!

It was what I would expect for an old logging camp. quaint
Would have been nice if some of the old family photo's were labeled. While we were there, it was VERY hot. Would have been great if there was an air conditioner to at least help with the humidity.
Brick oven pizza made fresh each night as all guests gathered together. Older kids were allowed to help prepare pizza. At first our grand kids didn't like the place but when it was time to leave they wanted to stay longer. We also had a bonfire each night.
Close enough to do day trips as needed.

cozy cabin near GarnetHill
Has a small TV but no reception so a bit disappointing (videos but limited--DVD. no disc) Sofas are comfortable for sleeping but downstairs is a bit cool and "breezy". May need to use fireplace more than we did. Has a wonderful Golden Lab that pays a friendly visit on occasion--pure conversation,no begging.

Great ski weekend!!
We had a wonderful time at bird camp house. Sammy the dog is the best. We loved him! The house was exactly as described. Fireplace with insert and gas heater warmed up the house comfortably. Beds and couches very comfortable. We look forward to a return visit when weather warms up to go kayaking and hiking.

Lovely historic Bird Camp cabin
My husband, adult daughter, and I stayed at the c. 1910 cabin for 3 nights in October 2017. It was comfortable, clean, quiet, private, and not fancy. Admittedly, I much prefer a place with a little human interest and history woven into it than a fancy hotel or spa. The old family pictures on the walls, and a short written history of the place by the current owner who renovated it (a Bird family descendant), helped us to imagine what it might have been like here 100 years ago. Unlike the original Bird family, we happily had good indoor plumbing, an adequate kitchen for simple meals, and great internet. We enjoyed a camp fire, and seeing the Milky Way and a meteor shower. There is plenty of great hiking in the area. Being geologists, we went to the nearby abandoned Hooper garnet mine and got some free samples! The active Barton mine, also nearby, gives tours in the warmer months. Being greeted daily by Sammy Dog, and the chickens and geese, was also nice. The fall foliage was amazing. Had a great time!
