The staff were very helpful And the art was cool.
Some of the art was impractical e.g. a clock that made noises every : hours even into the night, we had to turn it off. Lights that hung down low that we hit our heads on them.

The location was perfect!!! The art was amazing and the lighting, which was part of the room, was a nice touch.
needed more seating options, no place to hang anything except one curtain rod, minimal sink space in bathroom.

The art
Maybe could use some kind of more storage space - but minimalism is minimalism

Funky venue, friendly staff, great bar and good tunes by the in-house DJ.
the Room was themed by the artist. More attention needed for bag storage. felt like everywhere we turned we were going to hit the art installation/damage it.

The breakfast was pleasant but having to book a specific time to eat instead of having a window to eat in was rather odd as was having to choose your preferred breakfast for each morning on arrival. When entering breakfast we never saw than 3 tables at a time. You could only have one drink with your meal and when I asked for a orange juice with my coffee I was told I could not. I responded that I could as I would happily pay for it. We never got a barista coffee made as they could not accomodate that during the "busy" breakfast routine.
The fact that there is no wardrobe space, we had 2 hangers each at the entrance attached to the coat hooks. Our suitacases had to stay packed and on the floor.

Location was perfect and the Art decor made it very interesting and fun. A departure from the same old luxury hotel room.

All of the staff members we met over the period of our one night stay, were welcoming, attentive and extremely helpful. It was clear from the outset that the staffing team really wanted to ensure that the customer experience was a good one. Our room was amazing and the art work on display, was everything and more. Our stay in this fabulous hotel made a very positive contribution to our visit to Kyoto and I was extremely pleased to see a hotel like this on offer. I look forward to staying at the hotel again and have highly recommended it to friends.
I wouldn't have changed anything.

This is such a beautiful, unique hotel and very worth staying at when you're in Kyoto. Our room was a chic minimalist space with one of the most comfortable beds we slept in during our 2 weeks in Japan. The view over the river while lying in bed was absolutely magical. The bathroom is also very generous and stylishly designed -- a huge bathtub that was perfect for relaxing after a day walking around Kyoto in winter. Staff were kind and helpful, and the cafe upstairs was a little expensive but made great food and coffee. The chance to stay in a room with a one-of-a-kind artwork was amazing and I'd absolutely stay here again if I came back to Kyoto -- I wish I'd been able to stay in more than one room and see what all the different artworks are like!
Our room had a small table built into the end of the bed, but other than that there was no furniture. There's a storage space on our floor where we could borrow furniture if we wanted it (for example we borrowed a couple of chairs and some coathangers). It's great that this is on offer and that it doesn't cost anything to borrow things, but it might have been nice to have some permanent minimal furniture that was designed with the room's aesthetic in mind.

Great sized bedrooms for packing and unpacking suitcases, clean modern rooms with special touches like mood lighting and curated play lists for each room
Not enough bench space, always using the floor.

The location is ideal and within walking distance to the old quarter and all the shops and main sights. The reception staff all speak excellent English which is a bonus as I found English is generally very basic in Japan. When I ordered a taxi, a staff member would come out to the street and give the taxi driver directions and see me off safely. I liked the sliding panels in front of my two floor to ceiling windows, very neat, and also the interesting hanging rock art installation which I could view through an internal window. The room was decorated with avant garde style artwork which I found amusing (I was advised not to touch any of it). It was the most novel room I had ever stayed in. The bathroom was very nice.
Perhaps I should have done more research but I didn't realise that the rooms are very small with a wall bed, actually two in my room but I left one up on the central wall so I had some walking space. I have bad knees so getting down and up from a floor bed was not easy! There was a tiny bureau with an art piece on top and it unfolded into a drop down table with two child size chairs, very space-saving! It was not a room to spend any time relaxing in. I saw a lot of young people there so it probably suits a younger clientele.

Staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Couldn’t fault the customer service. The concept is cool and definitely different to your standard hotel routine. The location was perfect! So close to heart of city without being right in the middle of it. Bathroom and shower were great.
It wasn’t practical. We stayed for 5 nights and it’s definitely a place to stay in for one or two nights. It was small things like no towel hooks in the bathroom or room, no bedside tables or stand, and no charging port or PowerPoint on one side of the bed. Also our room was very dark (which was the design) but opening curtains to let light in and we faced a brick wall.
Breakfast was lovely and the coffee was great, as was the friendly barista, but the options were very limited and having to book breakfast at a certain time in advance makes it hard to plan your day, especially when wanting an early start. Also, the barista could use some help of a morning with an extra staff member to help speed things up.

From the moment we stepped into the hotel it felt like a gallery that you you pay to walk through. We were greeted by the wonderful staff who were friendly and recommended plenty of restaurants. The room itself was stunning and spacious. There was ample toiletries on offer in the foyer and bottled water in the room.

Beautiful art rooms, great cafe on the 2nd floor, convenient downtown Kyoto location.
Rooms are small, but that’s true everywhere in downtown Kyoto.

Wooooow, I wish I would havw found this Museum Hotel earlier but I was lucky to stat at least one night. This place is so creative, it made my designer heart beat very hard. Every room is an exhibition and was created by a different artist. You get an audio guide online to hear the story about the art work. The room is spacious and the shower/bathtub as well.
The art work was so beautiful and every minute I discovered something new.
Also a very cool for special occasions or if you want to treat yourself :-)
The staff was friendly and helpful. I dropped off my lagguage in the morning, did a pre-checkin and when I came back everything was in my room. Wow, thank you!
Loved it so much, highly recommended!
Nothing this place is absolutely brilliant!

1003 is an amazing room. It’s a room you must stay in for a night.
You have to pre book a breakfast placed the night before by 18:00. We missed out as was unaware of this which was the only thing that tainted the trip.

The hotel staff were super friendly and efficient.
Since it is an Art-theme hotel, obviously the art pieces being displayed is the attraction, and the different room has different artist work demonstrated a well-curated hotel. Kudos to the art director(s) and the artists.
I felt the hotel took itself too seriously and numerous warnings were given during check-in (Don't damage the art pieces in the room, don't wear shoes, be careful with this, and that etc).
As a hotel guest, I want to be comfortable and all these restrictions made the hotel 'pretentious' and unwelcoming.

Living in art. New experience. Location. Clean. And staff so friendly and helpful. We got good recommended to see the festival in temple and it was really great experience for me and my husband.
