Nerja is a beautiful Spanish town approximately 55 kilometres east from Malaga and 65 km from Malaga airport on the N-340 coastal highway. It is the eastern tip of Malaga's Costa del Sol. Nerja has retained much of its uniquely Spanish character. The town, and Burriana Beach, reputed to be one of the finest beaches east of Malaga, are approx. 2 kms away from the apartment. Nerja is famous for its spectacular Balcón de Europa, a promenade stretching out into the Mediterranean, offering views of the town's numerous coves and beaches, plus the magnificent Sierra Almijara. The area caters to families, couples and groups of friends.
Nerja, and its surrounding areas, caters to all tastes and interests. There are a wide range of restaurants and tapas bars that will satisfy almost every palette and budget. The town is usually thought of as a family destination, however for those looking for a vibrant nightlife, there are a number of bars and discos in and around Plaza Tutti Frutti. For those who are looking for something slightly more cultured, check what’s on at Casa Cultura on Calle Granada- there are lists of events displayed by the window. If there is something you fancy, it’s definitely worth a visit, and it’s always reasonably priced. Remember, nearly everything will be in Spanish. During the summer a number of events, including ballet and opera, are held in the Cuevas de Nerja. The International Cave Festival, which is held there every year, attracts many internationally renowned artists. The caves themselves are also worth a visit. Granada and Cordoba (both world heritage sites) are approximately within two hours drive of Nerja.
There is a lot to see and do in and around Nerja and if you don't fancy walking, you can take a horse-drown carriage and tour the town or hop on the 'train' (very popular with children) and travel to Nueva Nerja.
The Nerja Tourist Information Office is located in the council office buildings, just opposite the church on the Balcon de Europa. The tourist information office has information on bus timetables, day trips etc and can help with any other queries visitors to Nerja might have. Additionally there are many leaflets, free newspapers and magazines available in the office. The opening hours are 10 am to 2 pm.
You can get from Malaga Airport to Nerja by taxi or minibus transfer, renting a car or by bus.
There is a a train from Malaga Airport to Maria Zambrano Station every 30 minutes from 7:30 am to midnight, the bus station is a 2 minute walk from the train station. Lovely clean cosy apartment, everything as described. A super stay, thank you.

Overall we had a lovely stay in Nerja and in El Capistrano Village! The pool-areas are great and super close.
It was easy getting access to the apartment and keys, with well described maps on forehand.
The apartment was also good but the kitchen was tiny and unfortunately the table- and kitchen-ware was not properly cleaned. Also the beds were quite uncomfortable and we only got two duvet covers for 4 persons but OK for a weeks stay. AC was working perfectly and needed! The balcony was appreciated and also the bbq in the garden!
Thank you for a nice stay

We had a fantastic two weeks here. Great property in a good location up the hill. Swimming pools short walk down the hill and the chairs at the apartment were very useful to save on renting a sun bed. Easy to get to the local supermarket and beach at the bottom of the hill is walkable. Bus stop close by that takes you into nearby shops and Balcon de Europe and it’s only €1 each. Lovely view from the balcony and enough space for 5 of us. We used the bbq which was very convenient and the air con was very welcome too. Only point I would make is that you do sometimes hear people in the upstairs apartment coming and going up the stairs from the upstairs bedroom, but it was only living noise which is to be expected as surrounded by lots of other villas. Very nice and we all enjoyed our stay, thank you!

We had an incredible 10 night stay at Casa Mariposa. The process of checking in was simple and quick, we had everything we needed and more. The views were wonderful, all facilities were exactly as we expected and the location was beautiful. We will absolutely be back, we changed to this villa last minute and Pauline & Shaun were quick to help us with the booking and it all worked out better than we had hoped originally so we are very pleased.
Thank you again and looking forward to returning soon.

Situated in a nice quiet community a short walk from centre town. The residence was comfortable and household amenities adequate for vacation stays. The hike up hill was somewhat challenging especially if you have mobility issues. Bus stop close by was helpful.

A week at Casa Mariposa
I've beenf to Nerja many times, but this was my first visit to Casa Mariposa, owned by Pauline & Sean. The villa was lovely and very close to the main pool which was great (as our friends were all in the same village/ apartment complex.
Communications with Pauline & Sean were very helpful and they are friendly. I'll be staying again.

Nice apartment
Nice apartment, everything you needed was there. Lovely view from the balcony.
Unfortunately the pool was a little too far from the apartment for us and the main pool didn't open till 11am to hire loungers (3 euros each).
Pauline & Sean were very helpful and patient with our questions

Apartamento acogedor y bien ubicado

Nice two-floor apartment in quiet area. Good AC and close to pools. You have to go by car to the beach, or walk for 20 minutes.

Just what we needed
A lovely comfortable apartment. Just what we needed for a relaxing week in the sun. Just a few minutes from either of the pools but also located in a quiet spot.

Lovely place
The place was a lovely base, just outside Nerja centre. It has everything you need and is very comfortable. The balcony was a hit. Pauline was very helpful and communicative throughout the whole process.
I would just say that, with a baby and buggy, the place may be a little further away from the sea and town centre than some people might need. Fortunately we had a car so it wasn’t a massive issue for us so we were able to enjoy everything.
Thoroughly recommend staying here!

We have just returned home from an amazing 2 week holiday in Nerja. The apartment is lovely and spacious. There were 4 of us (2 adults a Teenager and a 6-year-old).The apartment is well equipped including beach/pool towel, deck chairs to use at the pool, shopping trolley and a BBQ.As stated in other reviews the pool area was brilliant (5 min walk from apartment), you can hire the sun beds for €3 or take your own chairs down which we did (2 deck chairs from the apartment). The pool side bar was fab especially for the traditional holiday (beer ‘o clock). The area around the apartment is quite hilly as you are situated at the base of the mountain. The plus side of this is that it gives you incredible views of the mountains and the sea view from the balcony, however if you need to do a food shop which includes a couple of 8 litre bottles of water and you don’t have a car it could become tricky. The supermarket at the bottom of the hill (Mercadona) offers a delivery service for €4, so you go round the supermarket do your shop and then leave it there for them to deliver at a time slot you have chosen (it’s a bit like Iceland’s services) well worth it if you don’t have a car.The town and beach were both around a 20-minute walk (all downhill) and then we sometimes got a taxi back for around €8. The bus stop that is a few yards away from the apartment is just €1 per person and will take you to the town centre and there are some timeslots where is goes down to the beach as well.We visited the caves which were very close to the apartment, we got a taxi there as we hadn’t worked the bus system out yet it was about €8. When we were done there, the local bus was outside for €1.15 each. Finally we visited a waterpark there are 2, in the end we chose Aquavelis, they offer a free coach from the other supermarket (Supersol) at the bottom of the hill from the apartment, the coach leaves at 10:20am gets you to waterpark at 11am and then collects you again at 6:45pm. We weren’t sure if we would last that long however we did, the water park is brilliant, there is a wave pool and some fun slides, we went with a teenager and a 6 year old and was enjoyed by all. There are a couple of restaurants at the waterpark too. We booked our tickets online, but I think you might be able to book from tourist information in town.We used Nerja taxi transfer from airport brilliant service, Pauline was brilliant with any questions we had; We loved our stay! Thank you

Lovely apartment
This is a lovely spacious apartment. Very nicely decorated and very well equipped. My husband and I stayed with our 2 teenage daughters recently and really enjoyed our stay. It’s a bit out of the way. The nearest beach is a good 15 minute walk and it’s about a 20-25 minute walk into the main part of Nerja. The area is also very hilly. You can get a bus into town which only costs a € and a cab back was about £8. There is a lovely restaurant by the pool area with very friendly staff. Also lots of other restaurants near by. The pool area is very nice and well maintained. It was very busy as you would expect at this time of year. You can hire sun-beds for €3 a day. There is a life guard on duty. It’s about a 5 min walk to the pool area from the apartment. Pauline was very helpful and easy to contact before we went, answering any questions we had. Overall a very good experience.

Lovely place
El Capistrano Village is beautiful and idyllic place with well kept gardens and tons of flowers. Calm and peaceful environment suitable for families, too. Nice pool areas. Loungers in the pool area cost 3€ per day. It was lovely to find some foldable chairs in the apartment. Casa Mariposa is clean and well equipped. Nicely decorated, too. A great choice of a holiday home with nice views from the balcony.

A wonderful apartment in a great location, perfect for a family holiday
Casa Mariposa was a fantastic choice for our stay in Nerja. We have a 3 year old so having plently of space, plus a garden was ideal, and she loved the nearby children’s pool.
The apartment was very clean and tastefully decorated, and Pauline and Sean were very helpful with our questions. Can highly recommend and hope to visit again some day!

April 2019 at El Capistrano
We spent a wonderful month at El Capistrano. Everything was exactly as stated. We took several day tours spent time at the beach and were very fortunate to be in Nerja for Easter celebrations. Pauline was very helpful with many suggestions of places to visit and eat. If we had a concern she was back to us immediately. We would definitely recommend staying here.

4 week stay in January 2019
The apartment is the best we have stayed in three four week holidays in Nerja over three years as a couple.
Very high quality finish, decoration and furniture.
LG flat screen TV and DVD player Sky sports and films and BT sports + usual UK channels.
Beds were very good quality. Living room furniture also.
Sun on balcony all day.
Garden has two recliners.
Any issues were dealt with efficiently and promptly.
Shopping trolley very useful.
Heaters supplied were more than adequate. (January)
Would stay again.

Lovely location and grounds, spacious and clean property
We loved our stay. The owner was very quick to respond and helpful.
We were a family of three with a 7 year old son. The grounds and swimming pools were a big hit.
The property is exactly as described. It was easy to access and clean and modern. We loved the balcony especially. Note that the kitchen is very small but not an issue as it is very well equipped. We used the bbq too with no issues.
El Capistrano Village is a beautiful location with stunning grounds. There is a pool bar, cave bar and local shop on-site. It is a fair walk into town with younger children (20 minutes) ...we would have enjoyed the stroll on our own (: We had a hire car so it wasn't an issue for us and although we didn't use it there is a bus station nearby with a good regular service.
The Balcon de Europa is a must see, especially in the evening. The views are stunning and the atmosphere was great, we ate here often. Burriana beach is lovely and there are also some great restaurants on the main strip.
We also went to nearby Frigiliana for the three cultures festival. It is well worth checking out what local festivals are on. The street performers were amazing and the firework show spectacular! You were offered free tapas at the festival with every drink purchased (even soft drinks) - heaven!
We drove to Grenada and visited the famous Alahambra Palace and also drove to Malaga for the day. Both were stunning locations! Malaga has a lovely historic area with a beautiful castle and many museums and also has a great port.
Nerja caves were also a hit with our son and well worth a visit as they are so close to the village. The cave trip is about an hour long and was a nice break from the insane heat!
We were very lucky with the weather and thought Nerja was a lovely location. It didn't feel overly touristy and we were very happy with our choice of accommodation too.

De très beaux souvenirs
L’appartement était très calme et très propre
Petit bémol, à part la piscine , un peu loin du centre et des plages....difficilement faisable à pied.
Beaucoup d’activités à faire autour de Nerja ! Très belle région

Nice apartment in lovely El Capistrano Village
We had a fantastic stay in Casa Mariposa! The apartment has a good location a couple of minutes from the pool area (which is very nice) and the convenience store (carries the basics). A few more minutes away there are two supermarkets.
The apartment is modern and is in good condition and has the main things one needs for a comfortable holiday stay. The view from the balcony is very nice and we spent a lot of time there. We enjoy buying and cooking the local groceries when we're abroad and had most of our meals at home. We did miss a more user friendly barbecue grill and some utensils in the kitchen and as a group of five a dishwasher.
We were surprised there weren't more restaurants close by. It takes about 15-20 minutes to walk to the beach or to Nerja village. A car isn't necessary however it makes things a lot easier. There are plenty of parking spaces right outside of the buildning (no cost).
The owner Pauline was most cooperative and very fast to respond to any query we had and did meet our needs at every point.
We can highly recommend Casa Mariposa and would be happy to return some time.
