Affordable, simple, clean.
Small room, bed on wheels (which was a little annoying).

Restaurant staff breached health and safety regs and had zero customer service qualities. I've attached a photo of "a hard boiled egg" which the waitress laughed at then left without a word of apology or alternative solution.
My 3 night stay was ruined by a policy of needing to alert the reception for my room to be cleaned - an unknown necessity to me - I was not forewarned as apparently I should have been. Ridiculous. Following an exhausting day's work, I had to take my used cup to reception for a clean one with extra coffee sachets.
Similarly I was initially refused a cooked breakfast because I was unaware that I needed to alert the staff in advance. A unique situation to me in 40 years of hotel experiences.
There were also issues on check in. Along with others, I checked out a day earlier than intended. To their credit, the staff waived my lunch cost and offered me a drink, but for a 4 star hotel, my expectations weren't met.

Lovely building. Comfortable bed and nice facilities . Stairs were a bit of a challenge for an elderly couple with cases
The stairs. It is in the flight path of the airport but it wasn’t really a problem
7.0
Lovely grounds, great bedroom
No proper breakfast, bar or dinner available. It is very near Stanstead airport - depending on if this is a bonues or not is dependent on your preferences. My Partner loved to see the planes as she used to be an air hostess....

Very good value and perfect for an early morning flight
We were not advised beforehand that due to refurbishment there was no food available at the hotel

Only thing was under flight path ,but we were out for most of the day

Very noisy as it is on the flight path.

Lovely Tudor building, pond and grounds are beautiful.
Great for plane spotting! 😉
Shame the bar & restaurant were closed for refurbishment.
The planes from Stansted airport are a little noisy.

Room, staff, service. Poppy, who was the service manager for the evening was extremely helpful and understood our requests. She helped with the taxi issue, booked the second cab and was very helpful in changing our room.
The taxi to the airport included inn our price had been booked for 3.30 so that two other guests could use the same cab. However we were not due at the airport until at least 4.30 so we were advised to take another cab, booked by the hotel, pay for it then be reimbursed on return. The latter arrangement was a hassle we could have done without.
The room originally given was too gloomy and we were unable to read in it . The overhead bed lights did not work so we were changed to a different room.

When we first arrived the lady on reception was friendly and helpful, saying the bar and sitting room would be open later along with somewhere to obtain food. We then went out for lunch and returned to a rude and unhelpful man on reception who has to be one of the most unhelpful people I have had the miss fortune to speak with. I have stayed here many times over the years and this has made me question if I will do this again.

Poor communication. Wasn't made aware that the dining room was being refurbished and closed for all meals other than breakfast.
Room had been left with windows closed and curtains open during the heatwave, so room was too hot to cool down with the fan provided (no air-con).
Hotel is a few miles from Stansted Airport and is directly underneath the flight path.
No space in the large car park due to too many cars being allowed to park there whilst owners are on their vacations.
Substantial building work (small housing estate) taking place within direct sound and vision of room.

location
Large bed paid for, ended up with a small one.
One skylight had blind missing so bright light at dawn.
No breakfast or evening meal available.
Unsatisfactory response from duty manager. No offer of reduction. Have stayed there several times prior and enjoyed it, not likely to stay again.

Party of teenagers, drinking and smoking in and around our room in the corridors and outside very late. We had to check out before unpacking our bags and the hotel agreed to a full refund due to the unruly customers yet a month on we are still awaiting a refund despite their assurances it will be reimbursed. Absolutely no response on email whatsoever. Terrible. Also, directly under the flight path. You’ll never sleep there!

Attracted by the advertising of a bar.
No bar, poor facilities in room ( ie no mile for tea/coffee)

The staff were really friendly and helpful and it was great to be able to get a shuttle to the airport from there. The room was simple but did the job. Being able to leave your car there is such a great idea and I think is good value if you are going on a short trip away.
The only disadvantage was that the windows were thin so from about 6am the flights overhead were very loud so if your flight was later, then this could be an issue.

Great location and very comfortable
Wasn’t told that the restaurant was not open would have been nice to know

Directly beneath the flight path of starting planes.

There's nothing that particularly liked about this hotel. It was always meant to be just a place to sleep, however when that basic requirement couldn't be fulfilled due to the extreme level of noise, the whole stay became a waste of money and we checked out at 1am.
The noise was as if planes were taking off and landing literally in our room. The windows were shaking. You could feel the vibrations from the plane engines n your bones. Surely there must be a regulation out there preventing hotels to operate without a certain level of soundproofing in cases like this one.

Stayed here 7 times previously great location for what we need never had issues hence our returning custom
Room was dissapointing damage walls and dirty pillows... no indication when booking resturaunt was closed... breakfast was shocking even though pre booked with time slot.. nowhere near enough food for a full hotel... £10 for a orange juice 2 hash browns and a spoon of eggs.. waited over 20 min to refill food which was gone in minutes due to queue

Grounds and initial appearance.
Disappointed with breakfast facilities lack of crockery and cutlery needs more attention to detail ie stocking of consumables and general service.

Superb location near the airport. Made an early morning flight very easy and the extra parking is better priced than purple parking or other offsite airport parking and feels every bit as secure. Best was a friendly welcome despite the late hour by the front desk team. They were great!
No one's fault but despite being a lovely stay, the old building rooms and stairs have very loud and creaky floorboards, we were aware we were probably waking all the other guests as we checked in late Not knocking the room through, that was really nice.
