there was a friendly welcome when I arrived, check in was efficient and painpainless thanks to the pre arrival check in. great room very clean, everything you needed was in it including the iron and ironing board. the bar and restaurant facilities were well played out and homely they even had my favourite ale on tap.
4.0
The breakfast menu, the dispensable toiletries and Roberts radio.
There was only peppermint tea bags available in the room.
3.5
Good location, iron and ironing board in every room, nice bath plus bathroom in the suite. Comfortable bed. Good breakfast. Front of house staff were friendly.
Rooms were very small for all of the guests in our party except the suite. The suite felt a bit sparse and didn’t seem like it has been used as there were cobwebs and a lamp didn’t work. We could hear the people moving about above us in the early hours. We specifically brought items to the room for the following morning that had been removed by housekeeping without asking. Housekeeping was sarcastic to us. We don’t think the price paid was reflected in the standard of the room. Hotel felt understaffed and we often couldn’t find anyone to help us or answer the phone. (However, the guy who checked us in was great and friendly)

Friendly staff. Historic building. Great breakfast with good veggie and vegan choices. Wonderful location with the benefit of parking.
Furniture in bedroom tired. Lumpy pillows.
3.5
The location, parking and easy access to the center is what we liked the most. The atmosphere was comfortable.
Kids under 18 are not allowed to be alone in the room. This seems unreasonable. We were uncomfortable with the staff, however would stay there again due to the fact they take dogs and the location.

Location. Clean. Staff
Cold tap in sink didn’t work
3.5
The historic charm of the hotel.
The hotel is showing its age in some parts
3.5
Good location and parking right outside. The room was fine and dinner and breakfast were OK.
The room was fine but the windows didn't open and the air conditioning unit didn't work! We did report it and were assured that the windows would open and that a member of staff would deal with it whilst we were out. The windows were closed when we got back - presumably the member of staff realised that the windows didn't open! No feedback to us on the problem.

The breakfast was OK.
The heating in my room did not work, which I mentioned to staff at breakfast, nothing was done when I returned to my room for a shower. The water was not hot. The carpet had stains on it. The white duvet cover looked grubby. The dining room was cold. I was traveling on my own after a funeral and to visit a sick friend. I chose the hotel for a treat but was really disappointed. I asked the staff if I could check out late, this was met with a lot of words, which eventually led to 'no'. It was pouring with rain when I checked out, so I sat in the bar area until a taxi came. The staff did not even say goodbye. I wasn't asked if my stay had been pleasant when I left them the key at 11am, in fact I don't think that the person on reception spoke to me or made eye contact with me at all. The distance from the station is not walkable for a person on their own at 9pm on a November night, I wish that I'd know that before setting off.

Everyone was very friendly.
On the morning of the first day, the chef didn't turn up for work so we had no cooked breakfast.

The breakfast was absolutely lovely! Couldn’t fault a thing there. The bathroom was very clean and the bath was amazing! The overall room was cosy with comfortable beds. The staff were lovely, I would definitely stay again. The town is nice and has loads and loads of shops.
The carpets could do with a little clean in the rooms and one of our mugs was dirty and had lipstick on it. I would also suggest putting a chest of draws in the room for clothing storage as the pictures for a superior room showed a large wardrobe and we only got a small little corner one that didn’t fit both mine and my mums stuff in so had to keep my clothes in my suitcase.
4.5
Stayed in Room 18, third floor corner front room. It was quiet and spacious with a nice view over the town. The bathroom was spacious also with a nice big window for light. There were many, nice choices for breakfast which we enjoyed. Easy walk into the park, town and to the Pantiles thought it is uphill coming back.
The parking is very limited. We were fortunate to find spaces both nights we stayed. You can park on the street but that was usually full.

Building work in progress. I would have appreciated prior knowledge.

Comfy, some parking
Staff not very helpful, had to wait 2 hours to check into my room which wasn't ready. When I eventually checked in they didn't know my room number so it was evident they never checked in the first place. Under new management so a bit chaotic

Breakfast was like been back at boarding school, with 2 long tables set that you had to share.
Requested full cream milk for my cereal, was told they only have semi-skimmed milk.
Hot food ran out and not refilled.
The website states parking, the hotel as 27 rooms but only about 12 parking spots, which was full. Was told to park on the street, but the parking is limited to an hour in the front and if you find parking on the side streets only for 2 hours and no return within 4 hours.
