My room was immaculately appointed with a good range of in-room tea, coffee biscuits etc. the public rooms were well decorated and furnished. Bathroom facilities were similarly appointed and well maintained. The cleaning done each day was first class.

Warm welcome at reception, room was good, bed comfortable
Don't have the scrambled egg. Bar was poorly managed, two people serving one customer five drinks while two other customers had to wait. later the elderly of the two staff went a.w.o.l for over half an hour, so to get swerved I had to go to reception and request someone attend. The younger member of staff was taken away for interview I presume!

We didn't have breakfast as it was not included in the price , the staff were amazing and ever so friendly, the hotel was clean and tidy and in the perfect location for what we wanted
Other guests to be a little more quiet
4.1
Location. Ease of parking. Pleasant receptionist.
Window looked straight into dining room - had to draw blind for privacy. Hot breakfast was buffet style rather than served plated.
4.1
The breakfast was excellent.
Location a little bit out from town.
Disappointed that there was no Sunday lunch.

Breakfast was excellent, but I wish they would serve earlier. Room was well appointed if a bit small, and there was no heat.
The evening meal is only served in the rather ordinary bar and they serve too late. So I went elsewhere for my eventing meal. My room was cold as one of the upper windows had been left open and I could not get the heat work. So I complained at the desk and they said the the boiler only comes on with a certain outdoor temperature, but they offered a space heater which I accepted. However the space heater didn't work and I had to go to the desk to get a second one. This helped, but the space heater was grossly inadequate and took all evening to warm the room. Even thought the temperature outside was 42ºF, the boiler heat never came on. I am going to start telephoning hotels in advance of booking to see if the guest has control of heat and air conditioning. I am going to stop patronizing hotels where they determine when the heat and air conditioning will be available. Ever guest and every room is different and require different levels of heating and cooling and this decision should not be left up to a committee in a corporate tower where they have full heating and air conditioning. Incidentally, this hotel has no air conditioning.

Being warm.
Breakfast was great. Staff were fabulous at breakfast.
Bathroom was nice.
Very clean.
Much more expensive than last year.

Room was exceptionally small.
Pillows were very hard.

Check in was efficient.
Room was a good size (we actually stayed in the same room on a previous visit),
The breakfast hours seem to be suited more to business travelers and finish too early for those on vacation.
No lift - and there are quite a few steps up to the room!

Breakfast and dinner in the hotel was delicious, beds were comfortable and the bath, shower and hot water were great. We liked the lounge and sport on the tv in the restaurant. The location was good too.
Most staff were very friendly and helpful. One particular member of staff was not helpful or friendly.

Arrived at the hotel at 7am after a 17.5 hour flight from Australia. Joe had our two rooms ready and we were able to do an exceptionally early check-in. So appreciative of this as we were quite tired and hungry. We were able to freshen up in our comfortable room and then have a delicious full breakfast. Service was very good and a great selection of continental breakfast foods as well as a hot breakfast cooked to order. The beds were very comfortable and it was great that we were able to open the window to let in fresh air. The hotel is a good 30 minute walk uphill from the station so if you are coming by train grab a taxi. There is plenty of on-site parking for guests. We only stayed one night, but were very happy with the service we received at The Birch Hotel.

Wonderful breakfast cooked to order and well above average, good shower, well lit room and bathroom.
Slight musty smell in room.

Staff were great and plenty of parking
It is dated, which isn’t an issue in itself, but walls and doors are paper thin, bathtub unstable. I couldn’t really relax as could hear everything

Good size room and nicely decorated/modern
We were disturbed by the neighbours until 2am - the walls seemed pretty thin (between 223 and 224). Expensive as on Xmas night.
